George's POV

I moved, expecting a lot of pain. None came. I lifted my arm, then my leg. Still no pain. The hurt I thought I'd feel, the soreness of my injuries, wasn't there. It was... weird.

A quiet breath of surprise filled the air. I turned around. A young nurse stood still in the doorway, her eyes open wide. She had a tray of what seemed like medicine. Her mouth was hanging open.

“Your Highness... you're awake!” she stuttered, calming down a bit. She hurried over, setting the tray on a nearby table with a clatter. “I... I need to check your signs.”

She reached for the machines, then stopped, looking around the bed. I looked too. The tubes and wires - all were thrown on the floor, pulled off quickly and wildly.

Her eyes got even bigger. “But... the machines...” she whispered, her voice full of doubt.

She slowly put out her hand, holding it above my chest, like she was scared to touch me. “Your Highness... last night, the doctors... they were shocked you made it. The poison... it sh

Wendy's POVI sat in the meeting with one of my investors, fully aware of George's presence outside my office. I could feel him, probably because of our link. Whitney had a point - I was letting my feelings for George mess with my thinking. For a moment, I saw flashbacks of his face when he handed me the divorce papers. Cold and unfeeling. Comparing it to last night, there was a huge gap. His face was so passionate and intense, so painstakingly handsome.“Ms Ashton?” a voice called out from reality. It was Ms Lorraine. She was a the representative of the company that I'd proposed a merger to.“Oh I'm sorry, please continue.” There I go again, letting my personal feelings distract me. I couldn't afford distractions. I was well on the verge of my success.“If there's no further requirements, we can seal the deal then?” I said to her as she finished talking. “This merger is good for the both of us, so why waste any more time Ms Lorraine?”“You're right” she said as I passed her the cont

George's POVA lost cause? We weren't a lost cause. She was my mate. My Luna. I was going to stop at nothing to get her back.As I stood there, lost in thought. A security officer walked up to me.“Your highness!” He said, peering up at me.I cocked my head to the side as I stared down at him.“What?” I questioned.“I received orders to remove you from the office grounds. If you could please comply and come with me” He said gesturing towards the door which led to the main gate.“What!” I asked, astonished. “Who…”“Ms Ashton, your highness” another voice said from behind me. I turned to the direction where the voice had come from. It was DavenMy guards seeing the scene tried to interfere but I held up a hand to stop them.“Wendy said what?” I asked, losing my patience, which was already hanging on a thin thread, threatening to snap any minute from now.“Your highness, she asked that we escort you away from the office grounds and she also gave orders not to let you in here ever again”

George's POV“Push me away all you want Wendy, but you should know that when I want something, I never give up.” I said to her,She scoffed. “Well good luck in all your endeavors. Please see yourself out. Your highness.” She walked into her office and I followed after her. I shut the door behind me.“I thought I told you to leave?” She said coldly as she took a seat at her desk.“And I remember telling you that when I want something, I don't give up.” I took a step towards her, and another and another until the only thing that stood between us was her work desk. She studied me with calculating eyes, not making a sound, as if trying to predict my next move.I had a diabolical plan. The chances of it working were probably less than a snowball’s chance in hell. She blatantly refused my pleas and my deals so it was time for a different approach. George's POVOver the next few days, I decided that I'd still offer her my help even if she didn't want it.I joined her group of investors under an alias and discreetly put money into her business. Her company climbed the ranks to become one of the top three companies in the world. She might think we're over but we still shared a bond. A bond I wasn't ready to let go of. I needed a Luna to run the shadow fangs pack and the thought of another woman becoming my Luna made my insides churn.Wendy was the only person for me. No one else could compare.Brittany's POVI paced back and forth in my room restlessly. Rosina had been captured by George's men and I'd barely managed to convince her not to mention my involvement in the plan, and now I owed her, and from my knowledge of Rosina, she wasn't someone you owed favors. If I didn't know anything at all, that I knew.We had a deal - I found a way to free her from prison in exchange for her silence. My blood boiled inwardly as I thought of W

Brittany's POVI rushed into the tech room, determined to shut down the servers. Despite my limited knowledge of IT, I knew I had to try. I logged into the computers and searched for the security camera footage. After disabling the cameras, I made my way to the dungeon, tiptoeing stealthily to avoid waking the sleeping guards. As I entered the dark dungeon, the wails and laments from the prisoners startled me. Fortunately, the darkness concealed my identity. The stench of the place was overwhelming, making it hard to breathe. I couldn't help but wonder how anyone could survive in such conditions.I just had to find Rosina and get out of here as soon as possible. I approached her cell and began searching the guard situated outside for the keys.“Took you long enough.” Rosina said from inside the cell.“It wasn't an easy feat trying to rescue you,” I replied, as I dangled the keys in front of her.The dim light illuminated her tattered figure. “They really did a number on you.” I added

Wendy's POVI was on my way to the shopping mall to pick up some household supplies, when I suddenly heard a crash behind me. Startled, I quickly parked my car by the sidewalk and rushed out to have a look. I felt a searing burning sensation in my chest, something was wrong, very wrong.I quickly called an ambulance and as I went to the scene of the accident, every step I took felt like an eternity. People were already gathered around, and some volunteers were trying to pry the car door open.It was a hit and run and someone had already phoned the police. I felt my lungs constrict as I saw who was in the car. George. My breath caught in my throat and my pulse raced as my instincts got the best of me, and I ran to him.“No, no, no. No…” I muttered as I touched his face. I held him in my arms and prayed to the moon goddess once more to save him.I didn't realize that I was crying until I saw my tears drop on his bloodied face. His face was pale, almost like it was devoid of life.I lean

Wendy's POVI walked into the infirmary feeling more hopeful than I was yesterday, I'd received information from Beta Edward earlier, that he was moved from the hospital to the royal infirmary, so he could get better and more specialized treatment.According to what Edward had told me over the phone, George's vitals were stable but he wasn't awake yet. He was hurt badly in the accident but the airbag had saved him from death.I walked straight to the front desk at the intensive care unit, my brain automatically remembering the way there. The strong smell of disinfectant hurt my nose, a subtle reminder of the last time I was here. George had been hurt because of me twice, maybe the best solution was to just stay away from him. But I'd been doing just that, maybe I just need to try harder. The healer looked up at me, she was the same one I'd met the last time I was here. She looked at me puzzled, possibly trying to remember me. “Ms. Ashton, was it?” She said finally recognizing me.I no

George's POVI was officially allowed to leave the infirmary a day after Wendy's visit. I tried calling her phone and sending multiple text messages, but she didn't answer my calls nor reply to my messages and then she just blocked my number.I walked to my office only to find a distressed Edward waiting for me by the door.“What happened?” I immediately asked. He fumbled with his hands and avoided my gaze. “It's about Rosina. Your highness” He answered with a low, shaky voice.“What about Rosina?” I asked again, my patience running low.“She escaped.” He answered, studying my expression. My frown deepened. “Rosina what!” I exclaimed, finally understanding the situation. “ But the cell was heavily guarded, how did she…” my voice trailed off.“We believe she had help from someone inside the pack.” Edward said.My forehead creased in anger. “Has the traitor been identified?” I asked, my expression serious.“We're working on it, Your highness.” He replied, shifting his weight from one leg

George's POVI walked out of Wendy’s apartment, my heart beating hard. Too hard. I could even hear the sound in my ears. For the first time since everything happened, I felt hope. Real hope. She didn’t say yes completely. But she didn’t say no too. That was enough for me.Her words kept coming back to me as I stepped into the night air. What if I really leave everything behind?I grinned, from ear to ear, shaking my head. I will wait. As long as there’s one small chance, I will wait.I entered my car and started driving. The road was quiet. Only the streetlights and the sound of the engine. My phone buzzed on the seat beside me. I reached for it, my eyes looking at the screen. It was my spy.I sighed and picked it up. "What?""There’s movement," the voice said. "Edward is restless. Something big is happening tonight."My jaw tightened. "Watch him. Let me know if anything changes."I ended the call and threw the phone down. Edward again. That bastard. He wasn’t going to ruin this. Not

I pressed a hand to my mouth as a wave of nausea climbed up my throat."Excuse me—" My voice broke as I turned away from him, practically running toward the bathroom in the conference room.I almost didn't make it to the sink when I was vomiting. My hands gripped the cold sink as my stomach was poured out , my body trembling.Behind me, I heard the door open. "Wendy?" George's voice was sharp with alarm. "What's …”"I'm fine," I said , choking, wiping my mouth with the back of my hand. "Just… give me a second."He didn’t listen. Chapter 154.George's POV. She hung the call before I could say Jack.I picked my car key before I stormed out of my office, gaining attention from the staff, especially my secretary who was , at that time, in the office with me.The drive to the Peak Hotel felt longer because of the packed road. My hands tightened around the steering wheel as I drove through the traffic, my mind running with different thoughts. Wendy already knew. Of course, she knew. Nico and the others , I should have known they wouldn't be able to keep up the act for long."Shit," I muttered under my breath as I pulled into the hotel's driveway. The valet approached, but I waved him off and parked the car myself. My heart was hammering as I stepped into the hard floor of the hotel, the soft hum of music didn't help with the situation, I just felt sick to my stomach.Conference room A2B.
