Lance’s POV…
After leaving Ruby's apartment, I drive back to the Lemon Bar. For the first time in my life, I am furious with Ruby.
She is just making a fuss out of nothing.
I can’t believe she lied about feeling uncomfortable just to make me go to her.
She did so because I didn’t talk to her properly on the phone.
Damn… Can’t she be more reasonable?
I was not able to talk to her at the time because my mom and grandma were at home. I can't always be available to her. She should be aware of it.
My frustration is growing.
'Women only know how to whine,' I mutter to myself.
Molly could have stopped me from going. She was clinging to me out of fear. When the light was restored, she resumed her bold demeanor and pretended as if nothing had happened. I wouldn't have left if she had said she wanted me to be with her. I would have come up with an excuse to turn Ruby down.
But no…
She asked me to leave. She has been displaying her bravery more frequently since her return. Molly is not the same person I knew three years ago. She is no longer submissive.
It is appealing and irritating at the same time. Right now, I don’t want to go back to her. That’s why I come back to my friend’s bar.
My friend, Jack, is a tease. I know he will not stop making fun of me, and I don’t care. I walked into the private room where I used to sit and ordered a drink.
After a while, Jack walks in, and I grimace as I notice the meaningful grin on his face. He is in a full-on mood to mock me.
"Hey, buddy. You are back again." He slaps me on the shoulder as he takes a seat next to me.
I sip my drink, not bothering to respond.
"I thought you left early to have fun with your wife," he scoffs. "But you came back."
His words only fueled my rage. I glare at him and warn him not to mess with me. But he laughs despite my warning.
"Buddy, you should talk to Molly. Sort out your problems. You will find a solution."
This is too much. I cannot take it anymore. I don’t need Jack’s advice to resolve issues between me and Molly.
"I went home to change my shirt," I deliberately lie. "Don't make any assumptions. Molly is the one who wants to divorce me. I'm just fulfilling her wish."
I act unconcerned as if nothing is bothering me.
"I see." He nods. "You made up your mind to end this marriage. Okay, what can I say if you both are happy with it?" He grins before saying the next words, "Well, I’d like to ask you something. Are you okay with someone dating her now that you have decided to leave her?"
His last sentence jolts my nerves. I gripped the glass tightly, wishing to smash it on top of his head. He dares to ask me to date, my wife.
I would have killed him if he had not been a friend.
"I am not okay. I will kill you if I see you around her." I slam the glass on the table and storm out.

The day of the party...
Molly’s POV…
Lance asked me to go shopping, which surprised me. I don’t need a dress, though. Besides, I didn't expect him to buy me a dress. I noticed his reluctance when mom asked him to take me shopping. I wanted to turn him down. Then I thought he was doing it to obey his mother.
My mother-in-law is special to me. I cannot upset her either. So, I decided to go with him.
After a half-hour drive, we arrive at a boutique.
The shopkeeper is a lovely young lady my age. She seems to be friendly. I immediately liked her cheerful appearance.
Many dresses are hanging on the hangers. All the dresses are elegant, with distinct designs. I like them all. Choosing one of these is difficult for me.
The shopkeeper assisted me in making my selection.
It's a backless white dress with a halter neckline.
"Try it. It will look good on you." She beams.
I try on the dress, which gives me a striking appearance. At the same time, it gracefully accentuates my curves. I like it and am thinking of purchasing it. But I forget that someone else is here who will decide which dress I should and should not wear.
Lance immediately asks me to change the dress.
"What? I like it."
"Don’t make me repeat myself," he warns me sternly.
The shopkeeper hands me another dress.
I am not at all happy. Yet, I enter the changing room to change my dress.
The dress leaves my shoulders uncovered. It is a snug fit and has a tube style. It is elegant and stylish.
I thought he would like it, but he just dismissively waved his hand.
Now, I am inside the changing room once again with a new dress in my hands. I look at myself in the mirror, my face flushed with rage.
Why is he making a fuss? Can't he just let me wear whatever I want?
I fume, but I slip into the pink gown I brought with me. I didn’t check the dress properly as it was going to be useless. After all, he is going to check it.
I walk out of the changing room.
The grimace on his face makes me sigh. He is going to reject it again.
"What? You don't like it either!" I snap.
He responds flatly with "No..."
I didn’t know that he was so picky. I feel sorry for the shopkeeper, who appears helpless.
I turn to face Lance and glower at him. "This is the last dress I'll try on. If you don’t like it, I will simply walk out."
I had no idea how loud I was until I noticed the other customers staring at me strangely. I self-consciously glance at them. This irritates me even more. I return to the changing room after casually selecting a dress.
"Why is he acting like this?" I mutter furiously. "He is simply annoying me, not helping me choose a dress."
I changed into the dress.
It is a sleeveless ball gown with long back zip. I try to zip up, but I'm not sure why I can't.
"What the hell? Why is not the zip working?" My fury intensified with my inability to zip it up.
I sigh and give up. I glance back at the door and call out to the shop owner. "Can you please come and help me?"
I unlock the door.
When I didn't hear back from her, I assumed she hadn't heard me.
I call out again, "Excuse me. The zip is stuck. Could you please help me?"
The door opens with a squeak. I was expecting the shopkeeper. But it is Lance who walks in.
I freeze and gape at his towering stature, which is oppressive inside this small room.
Lance’s POV…I stare at her, speechless, into her questioning eyes. She appears surprised to see me here. The shop owner has gone to deal with the other customer, leaving me with no choice but to come and assist her. Standing in front of her in this small room when her entire bare back is visible in the mirror, I don’t know how to control myself. She is too tempting to resist.‘Fuck, I want her so badly,’ I groan inwardly.I came to help her. But I keep staring at her, forgetting about helping her. My hands ache from the desire to touch, feel, and explore her.She looks damn beautiful in this ball gown. Thank goodness she didn't wear anything too revealing this time.I'm not picky about dresses. But what can I do? She looked so pretty and sexy in those dresses. I don’t want anyone to eye fuck her.She averts her gaze, the awkwardness is evident on her face. She scratches the back of her ear. "This is the ladies changing room. You shouldn’t be here."I can tell she is nervous. This is
Lance’s POV…‘Oh, man.’I swear I am losing control. How can I resist her when she is so alluring? Look at her eyes... beautiful amber eyes, which were drawing me in. With those enchanting eyes, she is staring at me.My heart is pounding in my chest. I want to keep her in my arms at all times. And those plump lips…‘Shit…’I was about to claim them, but that phone call.I clench my jaw.‘She is with me in this powder room,’ I whisper to myself. ‘No one is around. I still have a chance.’That’s it.I turn her towards me, looking intently into her eyes. I ran my knuckles down her cheek.Oh, she is blushing again. She tries to look away from me, and I hold her chin and make him look back at me.I open my mouth to express my desire."Lance, I think we should leave," she says before I can say anything.I swallow the words, not happy with the interruption. I quickly take a step back and tuck my hands into my pockets, my face solemn."Okay." That's what I say as I exit the powder room.I don
Mia’s POV…I am stunned by his outburst. It is embarrassing too.Jack looks pale. I feel sorry for him. Lance shouldn’t behave in this way. Is he forgetting how close Jack is to us?I break free from his arms and grumble, "This is too much, Lance. Jack is not only your friend, but also mine. You are overreacting."I am so furious that my entire body is shaking. Looking at his furious expression, I expect him to say something bad, but instead, he grabs my wrist and drags me along with him.He is acting as if he did not hear me."Lance…"He ignores my resistance and takes me into the ball.I freeze in the middle of several couples dancing to the beat of the music. In an instant, my mind goes blank, and I forget every dance step I have ever learned. While I'm still dazedly looking around, I hear him say, "Dance with me."He is not asking me, but commanding me.This further annoys me. He only knows how to put me under pressure. He never tries to understand how I feel."No…" I rebuke. He p
"Mm…" I groan and deepen the kiss.Time stopped when my lips met hers. I am not sure if my surroundings have frozen or if my mind is playing tricks on me. Every breath I take has jasmine and a fresh mint scent to it.My heart is hammering against my ribcage. I am no longer aware of the piercing gazes of the people around me. All my attention is on her lips, how soft they feel against my mouth, how sweet and addictive they are.She tastes so damn good. Her breathing is destabilizing, yet inviting. The heat from her stomach rises to my chest. My body is flooded with pressure aches. I want to consume her whole. She is trembling in my arms.It is only at this moment that I realize that she is uncomfortable. I catch a glimpse of everyone looking at us. It is indeed embarrassing.I stop kissing her and release her from my arms. Her face is bright red. Embarrassment and anger intermingle together. Like earlier, I could not stop looking at her. This time, I am not admiring her beauty. I am di
Lance’s POV…The phone continues to vibrate, and I am looking at her retreating form, forgetting about checking who is calling. She brought up the divorce once more. Ever since she had returned, she had been singing one song.‘Divorce, divorce, and divorce.’I am so mad."Damn it." I slammed my palm on the steering wheel. "Who the fuck is calling me?"I look at my phone. ‘It’s my grandma!’I am surprised, thinking why she is phoning me now. We just met, right? Is everything okay?As I answer the phone, a frown crosses my brow."Hello, Grandma.""Lance, have you reached safely?"I breathe a sigh of relief when I hear her cheerful voice. She may be calling to confirm whether or not we have arrived at the villa."Yes, grandma. I'll get back to you later. Goodnight."I hang up the phone quickly. I have an important matter to deal with right now. I jump out of the car and dash into the house, my mood stormy. This is going to be a crazy night. I cannot let her ignore me anymore. Enough alre
Molly’s POV…The next day, I went to meet Ruby at the café where she had asked to meet. When I walk into the café, I notice her sitting at the corner table. I take a deep breath and clutch my purse as I approach her, curious about what she wants to discuss with me.Ruby, as usual, flashes her fake smile when she lifts her head and looks in my direction."Molly, you have arrived. Please, take your seat." She motions to the chair across from her.I regard her skeptically as I sit down. Ruby didn't wear as much makeup as she had before. Her face is unusually white as if all of her blood has been drained from her body. But she appears to be in good health. It makes me suspect again if she is really suffering from cancer.I'm curious about what makeup she is wearing that has turned her face pale white."What do you want to have?" she asks."I don’t want anything. If you want, you can order."Ruby laughs slowly, pushing the menu towards me. "You should place the order today. Lance will be h
Molly’s POV…Lance's reaction was predictable. That was what he did every time.I don’t know why I feel compelled to explain myself to him. My heart aches as I stare at his stiff back."I didn’t push her," I finally say.He doesn’t turn back to me or try to know what actually happened. He just walks out, saying, "We will talk about it later."His cold response brings tears to my eyes. I stand there, speechless, watching him carry her out of the café.This scene is so familiar to me. He always chose Ruby and walked away from me. He never tried to find out my side of the story. His anger, suspicions, and accusations are too much for me to bear.My knees are getting weaker. I step back and sink into the chair. I don’t want to cry, I swear. This is nothing new to me. But I am not sure why I am sobbing this hard.Ruby is not worthy of my attention. And Lance doesn’t deserve my tears. Why am I crying so hard?I pour myself some water and drink it, my hand shaking.Ring-Ting-Ting…I set the
Molly’s POV…The Stevens couple always treats me very well, and Grandma adores me just like she adores Lance. When she requests me to spend the night here, I cannot turn her down.Lance's eyes show a hint of hesitation, but I ignore it. Maybe he is planning to go to Ruby. I don’t care anymore. I decided to stay here solely for Grandma's sake."I will stay here," I reassure her with a comforting smile. "Now, you should sleep. You have already exhausted yourself."Lance looks at me with wide eyes, as if he did not expect such a reaction from me.‘This is not for you, Lance. I will obey the elders of this family as long as I am in this marriage.’Grandma seems happy with my response. She, like an obedient child, closes her eyes to sleep.Lance left to attend to a phone call. But I stayed with her until she fell asleep. The housekeeper comes to call me for dinner. I follow him to the dining hall, where Lance and his parents await me.I give Mom and Dad a friendly smile as I take a seat ne
I am somewhat taken aback as I notice the quick change in her expression. Then I realize her distress is because of what Edward did to me."Look, I have nothing against Edward." I hurriedly try to explain. "What he did is undoubtedly wrong. But it is also true that he kept me safe from Ruby’s torture. He had some misunderstandings. The moment he realized his mistakes, he released me. So, don’t be sad. Okay?"Daisy has a bitter smile on her face. Honestly, that smile doesn’t look good on her. If I had not been injured, I would have held her hands and comforted her.I can only say, "He is not perfect. But he is not bad either.""I know," I hear her say when I am about to say more. "I know him well. I am not sad because of him. Basically, it was not his fault. He was only looking for the woman he had a crazy one-night stand with. It was me who was trying to hide from him. It was I who remained silent when I realized he had mistaken you for me. I could have told you everything, but I didn
Lance’s POV…My hands are itching to strangle her to death. But I don’t have time now. I need to stay with Molly. I will deal with this bitch later, and I swear, I will teach her a good lesson."Take her to the dungeon," I command. "Make sure you will treat her well."Treating her well entails not allowing her to sit quietly, and the guards understand exactly what I mean.I turn to leave."Lance…"I pause at the doorstep and look back at her."Don’t be so cruel. It is me, Ruby. I love you, Lance. Whatever I did was for you. All I want is to be with you. Please, don’t let them take me away. Consider the time we spent together. You like me. Didn't you say you would always look after me? Didn’t you say you would be grateful to me forever for saving your life? You cannot forget your promises. Please, Lance. I beg you. Take me back. I swear, I will not hurt Molly."I glare at her. I can see right through her mind. How pretentious she is. She is capable of outperforming Oskar-winning actres
I dodge the attack and turn swiftly aside, pushing her away.Ruby stumbles, the knife slipping out of her grip. Before she can get on her feet, I pick up the stool and throw it at her. The stool collides with her back as she attempts to stand up.I don’t have time to check if she is able to stand up or pick up the knife. I turn around and flee to the door. It is shocking that I cannot open the door. I twist the knob again and again, but I can’t unlock it.What the hell is going on? Did the lock get jammed?I still try to unlock the door, twisting the knob repeatedly."Hahaha…" Ruby’s laughter resonates inside the room.I freeze and turn to face her."Oh, Molly… you are too naïve," she says between the laughs. "Do you think I am also stupid like you?" She gets to her feet, her expression darkening. "I won’t come here without preparation, risking my life. I have been waiting for this day to meet you again face-to-face. And it is the best day to kill you on your wedding day."She bends a
A month later…Molly’s POV…This is our wedding day. It is a grand wedding that any woman will dream of. The hall, which is decorated with various flowers, is packed with guests. The media is also present.I have a feeling that I have suddenly become a celebrity. My wedding gown is designed by a well-known designer. It looks so pretty. It is a strapless ball gown that fits snugly around my breasts and widens from the waist, hiding my slightly protruding belly. After holding my hair in a messy bun, the makeup artist completes my makeover.I check myself in the mirror and smile shyly."You are glowing," the makeup artist says. "Mr. Stevens will not be able to look away from you today."I blush to hear her compliment."My bestie is the prettiest one," Daisy chimes in as she walks into the powder room. She inspects me, holding my shoulders. "You look gorgeous. Your and Lance’s photos are going to make headlines tomorrow.""Has the groom arrived?" The makeup artist asks, beaming with a smi
Lance returns after some time. I am relieved to see his wound is properly bandaged."We are heading to the restaurant for dinner," says Edward. "Are you coming?""No." Lance denies his offer, his gaze lingering on me. "I will ask the room service to deliver the food here.""As you see fit. Shall we go?" Edward nods at Daisy.Daisy hugs me and whispers in my ear, "Enjoy your meal with your husband, and let me enjoy my boyfriend’s company."I smile in response. They walk out. Now, I and Lance are alone in the room. We continue to stare at each other silently.Lance has told me many things today. He has been honest with me. He has cleared many doubts in my mind. I now know that he genuinely loves me. I also understood why he always took care of Ruby.He was only trying to repay her favor.Favor?I am still perplexed as to when Ruby saved him and how. I cannot help but say, "I’d like to know how she saved you.""I will tell you everything." Lance holds my hand and takes me to the bed. "It
Lance’s POV…My heart aches when I recall Molly’s sad look that evening. I was confused and apprehensive at the time and couldn’t reveal it to her. I wanted some time to think about it before concluding anything. So, I didn’t tell Molly anything about it when she asked me.That was another mistake I had made. However, I don’t want to repeat the mistake, so I decide to disclose everything to her."The doctors said that there were some complications in her pregnancy, and the fetus was weak. He recommended bed rest. Ruby often called me while I was at work and cried a lot, saying she feared her baby would suffer from cancer just like she did. I pitied her and used to go to her to console her."I pause when I notice her suspicious look. I know exactly what she is thinking. I clasp her hands. "Believe me, I only intended to console her. I owe her this life. She saved me once.""She saved you!" she exclaims, a look of disbelief spreading across her face.I nod. "Yes. I am taking care of her
I cannot stop crying. I feel so guilty.Out of anger, I came so far away and put myself in danger. Because of me, Lance got hurt. I shouldn’t have acted impulsively. I could have stayed at the resort and questioned him."Sorry." I apologize to him again."Stop crying," he consoles me. "Listen up. The rain is getting heavy. We need to take shelter somewhere."I don’t know how far the village is from here. Since it is getting dark and raining, nothing is clearly visible. Furthermore, I don’t know how the people will be. As I look down at the three people lying motionless on the ground, I cannot help but shudder.I don’t want to put my trust in the villagers. I’d better head to the next bus stop."There…" Lance pointed to the right. "I can see a building there. Let’s go."I also spot a building-like structure in that direction. But I am reluctant to go there. I tug on his wrist and stop him."I'm not sure what danger lurks there. What if we come across more goons like these?" I nodded to
Molly’s POV…I am so lost in my thoughts that I don't realize all of the passengers have left. The driver asks me to get down since it is the last stop.I hesitantly get off the bus and take a look around. The area is deserted and looks scary. I don’t know where to go. At this moment, I regret acting recklessly. I shouldn’t have come so far away from the resort. It is started drizzling now. I have to get to the bus stop shed quickly. I take my phone from my purse, thinking to call Daisy."Oh!"I am stunned and disappointed at the same time when I see no signal on the phone.I dejectedly sit down on the bench and look at the road dazedly, hoping the next bus will come soon.Maybe a taxi.I remember Lance running after the bus. I wonder if he is still looking for me."Will he come here looking for me?" I murmur in a trance."Are you waiting for the bus?"I almost jump when I hear a husky voice.Three men are coming toward me, smiling vilely.I immediately know I am in danger. I stand up
"Molly, you are getting it wrong," he says. His nervousness is clear in his demeanor. Why is he so nervous if he has done nothing wrong? What is he trying to hide?I scowl at him suspiciously."Yes, she was here. Believe me, I didn’t call her. She came here on her own." He comes in closer and holds my hands."And you met her secretly," I add, my heart tearing apart. He hangs his head down and nods slowly."Why?" I snarl, withdrawing my hands. My fingers are shaking in rage. My insides are clenching in agony. I get emotional, and I cannot say a word. All the bitter memories from the past rush into my mind, making me feel that he can never forget Ruby. He always preferred her and rushed to her whenever she called him. I am sure he might have done the same thing."I met her because she was depressed. She was…""Depressed?" I scoff before he can finish speaking. "She is always depressed… pitiful. You always go to her. Why, Lance? If she needed you, I wouldn't have stopped you from going t
