Sorry for the delay. I rewrote this chapter three times. I wanted it to be impactful and move the story forward, while also conveying a lot of new information. In this book I hope to explore more dragon societies on this planet. In the previous book we focused on Luxandra, but there are several other continents to see. :) Don't worry, I'll save some for book three :) For all of you reading this, if you are enjoying the story, consider giving it a gem or two. Support through gems shows sites like GoodNovel that there is space for complex stories like these. The more popular this book is, the more likely that I will be able to write and publish more of these stories here. Thank you all for your continued support! I appreciate all of you!
[Ona] Kora leads me down a hall made of polished shells grown in the shape of rooms and corridors. You can see the natural spiral pattern repeated on the walls and between some of the spaces within the pattern, there are bits of sea glass that were melted and reformed to create stained-glass windows. Large picture windows from floor to ceiling show the beautiful natural wonders of life deep undersea. "I've always loved this palace," Kora smiles. "It is a fine place to be exiled." "Exiled?" I am confused. "The last time I heard anything was that after your father..." "Died," she finished, her words neither harsh nor judgmental. "I knew who Orion was the moment I met him, despite his game of pretending to be someone else," she shook her head. "I do not blame him for my father's death, even though it was his hand who slayed him. In many ways, my father died years before he stood on the deck of that ship." her voice is cold and sharp enough to cut. "The man I called father died yea
[Ona] "Explain what you mean, slowly," I demand as I take short, even breaths. Daax is protectively growling at my side, his jaw set. We both know there is only one person who is close enough to both of our dreamers to have a chance of being successful. Me. "Daax," I say softly under my breath, worried the same thing might happen again. "Look at me, Daax." "Ona," he breathes, his body softening as he pulls his gaze from the containment pod back to me. "I can't. Please don't ask me to watch them put you in one of these things." To see me in one of these pods would be a type of death for him. Daax spent 40 years in a pod very much like these, sleeping away his existence as he was harvested for energy and spare parts, only taken out occasionally for whatever torture Segundus had in mind. One of these days, when we are far away from all of this and are lying naked and feeling safe, I will ask him what he dreamed about during all that time away. Who was he when he was trapped inside
[Ona]"Good Morning, Viscountess."Where am I?I open my eyes in a room that feels both strange and familiar. My mind is expecting to see large cushions and a burning fire. Instead, I see long rays of daylight streaming through sheer curtains on tall windows that look out into a sunlit garden of roses and lavender, lilac and jasmine. The room is fine, elegant, draped in silks, and crafted of gleaming hardwoods polished to a shine. The servant who just spoke, a human, is standing near the door of the room in a uniform of some sort, holding a delicate silver bell. The last words of the Elf King are still ringing in my ears. He gave me very specific instructions and warnings.First, I may be a bit disoriented when I arrive, look for something familiar, think of something familiar, to connect you to the real world so that you don't get lost in the mind fog.Second, it is in the nature of the dream state to force me to conform to the shape of the universe within. In this world, I am little
[Ona]"My husband was attacked by a dragon?" "Yes, the Viscount Dashiell was attacked on the road. Should we bring you to see him?"Husband. Dragon. My husband cannot be attacked by a dragon. He is a dragon and his name is Daax.My mind flashes through a thousand images of my mate and me together. Fighting together, loving together, standing side just us against the world. That is reality. This is a dream and I almost got lost inside of it. Thalan had warned me this was a possibility, but I still let myself slip. I let the dream world take a piece of me as I fell completely into character. I can't let that happen again. I need to remain myself. I need to bring these two home. But to do that, I need them to know who they are, and right now, looking at them the way that they are, I can see they are very lost.Turning to the servant who has brought me the terrible news, I contradict him. "You must be mistaken, my husband is away at sea. As he has been for the last 5 years."Something sh
[Primus] Everyone knows dragons are only make-believe. So why is my sister making us chase one? She invites us to dine with her in the grand hall and we are treated to finely cooked venison and the best wine from the valley. She waits until we are well and goodly sated before she goes over the details of her plan. "You will need to travel the entire perimeter of my land of course, and then move inward towards Pinnacle Mountain where the most reports of sightings have occurred." She leans forward. "I know it will be inconvenient for you, adding another week or two to your stay. I am indebted to you both for looking into this matter," she smiles appreciatively. Ana seems very sincere. But when she looks away, there is a flash of mischief in her eyes that reminds me of our childhood together. She often got a similar look on her face right before she tried to do something that would get me into trouble with our father and half of the kitchen staff. Once dinner is cleared, we spend th
[Carnelia] "Who's there?" I call out as I open the door. Leon is standing in the hall, his face red, his chest heaving as he tries to catch his breath. How long had he been standing there? Did he see me? Dear gods, did he hear me? Flushing with anger and shame I shout, "What do you want?" He jumps at the sound of my voice, his nostrils flaring like a wild animal's as his eyes flash bright green, like swirling mirrors of light. "This," he growls as he pulls me into him, claiming my mouth with his teeth and his tongue as he pushes me up against the door. "Mine," he kisses me again, his hands carefully placed on either side of my cheeks as he traps me with his body, his mouth exploring mine as his hardness presses into my thigh through his trousers. "Leon," I gasp, not sure what to think or feel. "What are you doing?" "Showing you how," he kisses my chin, my ear, "desperately," His mouth moves down to my neck, "Much I want you." He bites a line down my neck and I shiver with want
[Eleanora] I never thought I'd be reduced to this. The first noble house that took us in was generous enough, but it soon proved to be their folly when within a week their home was reduced to rubble. A human slave having recognized us for who we are reported to the local rebellion leader and we watched in terror as a sun pattern was burned into their fields only to spread to their home and livestock. The dragons made it out okay. We are still not sure how many humans, cattle, or other beasts remain. The second house to take us in faced a similar fate, only their master was also killed, their neck sliced in the night much like Prince Primus had suffered. The humans responsible killed themselves before we could question them. After that, nobody else would take us in. None of the other royal houses wanted anything to do with a queen who brought fire and chaos in her wake. The Queen of Luxandra can demand hospitality from any house in the kingdom, but with our numbers diminished, witho
[Kora]You can't know a person completely by just looking at them. So much of one's truth is hidden beneath the surface, hidden away where others cannot see it.This is especially true of dragons.Dragons came to this world fresh and ignorant of what would happen to them when they started to blend with it. We went from creatures of pure energy into something else, something that responded to the elements around us. And then we started to blend, creating new types of dragons with our offspring. But there has always been a type of dragon, the one that still can warp reality in much the same way our earliest ancestors could. The universal dragon. The problem is that they are so rare, we don't even know how to find one. Many times the universal dragon doesn't even know they are one until something strange happens. An accident where a moon dragon needs to fly and grows wings like an air dragon or a fire breaks out and a water dragon
