Chapter 4 Cannot Escape From Fate

LORAINE’S POV

“Next! Take off your clothes.” It was the head maid, Claire, who ordered the second batch of women who were called inside the room.

When they took off their clothes, of course, there weren’t men inside, but rather they were guarding from outside, although they didn’t really care if their bodies would be seen by the same sex or the opposite sex, since they are werewolves and werewolves don’t really care about being seen their naked bodies. Even though it's normalized, the guards still decide to just let the head maid take care of these things.

Soon right after, all the women took off their clothes without questioning why they were being called and for the reason why they must show their naked bodies, but even so, they didn’t dare to question the head maid and silently comply with the head maid’s order.

The head maid, Claire, looked at us, the low-rank servants, and coldly commanded. “Report to me if you find someone with the same mark as this.” She showed the mark that was drawn onto the white handkerchief to us.

All of us politely bow out head and head her orders, looking closely at the woman’s naked body.

While I was also surveying the woman, I heard her ask, “Is there something wrong with the marks? Why did the head maid request all unmarried women to head to this place and take off their clothes, letting you see our naked bodies?”

I couldn’t help but look at her and was about to open my mouth to speak, when the head maid, Claire, happened to look in my direction or more like our eyes had met and glared at me when she saw what I was going to do.

Ah, she’s pretty, but her eyes are really intimidating.

I looked away and gave the girl a polite bow and didn’t say anything as I continued to look closely at her body and looked to find that mark which looked like a phoenix, but it had a crown on it, and the phoenix’s body seemed to be on fire.

“Hey, why don’t you talk? You’re pretty going to be deaf and mute at this young age.” The woman said while smiling at me, obviously teasing me.

I let out a heavy sigh and looked at her in the eyes and then gave her a ‘shh’ signal using my finger.

The woman chuckled. “I don’t have any marks yet. I haven’t met my mate. By the way, what’s your name?”

I helplessly sighed. “Loraine.”

“Oh, so you can talk.” The woman let out a teasing laugh.

I didn’t mind her. Instead, I looked closely at her body and saw that there were really no signs of marks. I told her to get dressed.

However, I couldn’t help but be curious about mates, bonds and marks.

I don’t have any marks nor have met my mate… but if fate allowed, I would treasure that person really.

Though, I’m quite curious about what they would feel after receiving their marks that are already linked to their mates…

I looked at the woman who was there after she dressed up. She excitedly looked at me and kept on asking me some sort of question.

Perfect timing.

Seeing that I looked at her, she smiled. “You’re finally looking at me. You really have such beautiful eyes if you only cut those uneven bangs of yours and ate more to gain weight, you would really look dazzling. After all, healthy bodies can make you gorgeous!”

I ignored her farts and directly asked her. “How would you know that you found your mate aside from seeing a mark on your body? What else would you feel? Do you feel emotionally bonded with that person?”

She looked at me with wide eyes.

I couldn’t help but scratch the back of my neck, feeling embarrassed. After all, I didn’t attend any classes before because my parents didn’t send me to school because of financial restraints.

And given our situation, I think it would be better to work and make money rather than go to school, so I never bothered going to universities like other children do and just learned on my own, especially whenever I saw my parents. I felt helpless and was even troubled about what to eat.

I don’t want to become a burden to them and, besides, I’m already glad that they raised me.

She didn’t ask me nor dwell about why I was ignorant about it and explained it to me carefully.

“The moment that the Moon Goddess gives you your destined mate, she will give you a sign about who she or he is. For example, about the mark and it is a unique mark that only a destined mate would have. Based on the textbooks-well, as what our teacher had said that you would feel a burning sensation in a part of your body where your mark appears. It would also take a week or so to know who your mate is after receiving the mark, especially because the bond or the link would slowly form to connect the two destined mates through their soul, heart, mind, and body.”

Burning sensation?

Wait… if I remember it right, I felt something burn my back last night…

Was it just a coincidence? I hope so.

Although I want to find my mate in the future, I don’t want my mate to be the Alpha King.

No, no, no. That would be impossible given that I come from a lowly bloodline and have a low status. It’s utterly impossible for me to be the Alpha King’s mate.

Aside from that, it is impossible for sure, that not only would I die at his hands, but I would also for sure suffer at the hands of his fiancée.

Just thinking about that made me shiver.

I shook my head and stopped thinking about those nonsense things.

“Are you okay?” She asked, making me look at her.

I smiled and nodded my head. “I am. You can go now. You don’t have marks on your body.”

She laughed. “I am Shelly. I’m a tattoo artist. You can contact me anytime if you want a tattoo. Just go to the famous club downtown and tell them my name.”

I raised my brows. “You’re a tattoo artist? You don’t have any tattoos.”

Shelly smiled and nodded her head. “Yeah, I erased it.”

My eyes widened. Before I could ask, Shelly spoke while laughing in tears.

“No, no, no. You can’t erase the mark that the Moon Goddess has given. Even if you burn your skin to remove it, it won’t work.”

“How did you know?” I couldn’t help but ask.

A faint emotion glimpsed into her eyes, but it quickly disappeared. “My mom did it before. She cut off a piece of her skin to remove the mark but only for it to appear in another part of her body.”

She looked at me in the eyes and bitterly smiled. “You see, you cannot escape from fate. You can run, you can hide, but surely you can’t get rid of it.”
