Andera's pov.

His familiar scent wrapped around me like a warm hug first, before strong hands fell on my shoulders. I turned on the couch to face him, my drowsiness washing away.

“You're here Daddy.” Tiffany cheered excitedly.

“Yes, sweetheart.” He managed a smile. I could see the tension lining his muscles and the way his brows were drawn together.

“You're just in time for the best part, Daddy,” Timmy said with a big smile on his face as his eyes shifted back to the TV. I was too focused on Thane to see what the cartoon character did that had Tim and Tiffy laughing loudly.

“Come sit with me.” I patted the spot next to me on the couch.

“Thank goodness I didn't miss the fun parts,” Thane said as he sat next to me

I took his hand in mine. Thane looked at me and gave me a heart-melting smile. My insides turned to mush. We returned our attention to the TV, watching cartoons with our kids.

As evening rolled in, Becky called us for dinner. She had made pasta and meatballs, I stole glances

Thane's pov.Paul pushed his glasses down the bridge of his nose for what could be the hundredth time. “Stop fidgeting, Paul,” I said with my eyes fixed on my phone. His anxiety was getting on my nerves. What is it about Marcus that had everyone uncomfortable about him? Imogen thought he was somewhat insane; Paul thinks he's a psychopath, but in reality, he's just a troublesome, embittered man I badly want to pour acid on and end his misery of a life.“He should have been here ten minutes ago,” Paul said; he managed to steel his face in a tight expression, but I could see the anxiety brewing behind his glasses.“I expected he'd show up later than the appointed time.” If there was one thing about embittered, vengeful people, it was that they always wanted to prove they had the upper hand, even when they didn't.I checked my phone again for any message from Andera. There were five bodyguards at home, but that didn't stop my worry over her and our kids from cresting up. Paul's phone b

Andera's pov. I gently lifted Thane's hand away from my midriff. One,Two,Three,The seconds ticked in my head and when I got to ten, I pulled the comforter away as gently as I could so as not to rouse him. Although it was still four in the morning and he was deep in sleep, I didn't want to take my chances. I held my breath while gingerly slipping away from our room, only when I entered the hallway did I heave out a sigh of relief. By the time I reached the kitchen, I was a buzz of excitement. I know Thane didn't celebrate this day, but it was a milestone for him. I wanted to make it special in whichever way I could. He tries to hide it, but I can see the tension and stiffness every time he comes back from the office, and it worries me. With the last threat I got during our picnic to the garden unsolved and his meticulous planning for our trip to the Madviles three days from now, which, in his words, is the ‘vacation of the year’, he had a lot on his mind.I stretched my limbs, r

Thane's pov.Instead of the warmth I was used to, my hands fell on an empty, cold bed. It took me a moment to understand why.Andera wasn't here.I opened my eyes, the colourful hues of sunrise smiled at me from our bedroom window. A silver of sunlight had crept into the sky, spreading pink, orange, and bright blue across the morning sky. It was a beautiful sight, but there was something, or rather, someone more breathtaking, and my mind itched to see her.A wry smile crept across my cheeks at how love-stricken I sounded in my head. I used to think those men of old who wrote sonnets and poems to their beloved were insufferable romantics who had nothing better to do with their time, but now I felt like one myself- helplessly enthralled.I made my way downstairs where I was sure Andera was, probably in the kitchen, drinking coffee with a cup of mine waiting for me on the island.A sweet aroma wafted into my nose before I even stepped into the kitchen. I found Andera deep in concentratio

Andera's pov. “If you don't come back with a pretty shell necklace and a ‘Wish You Were Here’ tan, I will disown you, Andera," Rosa said with a serious face, but her eyes crinkled at the corners. I stifled a laugh. “Yes, ma'am.”It was almost closing hours. Becky was home with the kids and Thane was at work. Yesterday, we all, Becky included, feasted on the vanilla cake. Thane was happy, Timmy and Tiffany giggled non-stop, everything was perfect. Tomorrow, we leave to explore the Indian Ocean. The twins were over the moon with excitement, and I could almost feel the tropical breeze on my skin. I should be home packing our bags now, but there were last-minute issues and paperwork I needed to sort out first.“And don't even think about forgetting the souvenir I requested” I rolled my eyes good-naturedly at my friend. “How could I?”She scoffed a little. “Oh please, Andera. You're going on a vacation with Thane, to a tropical island for an entire week. You'd be lucky if he gives you

Thanes pov.Josh and I have been in steady contact since Marcus.I rubbed my hand over my mouth again, staring at the box in front of me. The study seemed eerily quiet, the air too stuffy, almost suffocating. I was supposed to be with Andera, listening to her as she talked about her expectations for our vacation of the year, but instead, I was stuck here, in a room that felt cold without her presence, with a box that seemed to be mocking me. My phone pinned. I pulled it out from my pockets. It was from Josh, the same message I've been receiving.“Nothing yet.”I bit back a groan; my frustrations were rising with every dammed ticking second. Marcus hasn't made a move yet. According to Josh's specially designed tracker, Marcus has not left his home since the meeting, there were so many questions I needed answers to What is Marcus' next move? What is he planning? He has to be working with someone. Who?And how the hell did he get the contents in this box?I dropped into my chair, th

Andera's povHe's lying to me.I knew it deep inside me; I could see it in the lines of worry on his face, the tension emanating from his body, and even the way he kissed me as if trying to apologize when I found out.If I found out.“Ready?” Becky came to my side; I tore my gaze away from where Thane was talking to the security team, looking as breathtaking as ever in his crisp white shirt, sleeves rolled up to his elbows, and sunglass that made him look like a model stepping out from a magazine cover.“I am.” my answer had little enthusiasm for someone who was about to travel to another continent for a week of tropical bliss.Last night, Thane had told me there was nothing to be worried about. I wanted to believe him. I really did. But the nagging feeling in the back of my mind refused to quiet down. “Andera.” Becky studied my face, her sharp eyes trying to read my mind. “Are you alright?”I tried to muster a smile, even though I couldn't see my face, I knew my smile was forced. Andera's pov.The hum of the plane's engines became a background sound that soothed me. I made a mental note to add ‘plane engine’ to my list of preferred white noise. It was late evening, Thane and I watched a movie, I fell asleep halfway and woke up to find him working on his laptop. He froze when I fixed him a stern stare.“No screens on the vacation. Remember?” I pointed out. We talked about this before departure; we needed to have more time with our children without the interference of anything work-related.Thane shut his laptop. “I was just covering some last-minute details.” my frown deepened, and Thane raised his hands in surrender. “Okay, you got me. I was working.” Amusement shimmered in his eyes. “Was,” he stressed to make his point. “Not anymore. See, I've closed my laptop.”I took it away from his lap, placing it down carefully on the closet seat. “And you're not going to open it till we get back to Seattle,” I said in my C.E.O. voice.Thane tilted his head to the side

Andera's povWhen we touched Male, We were met by the resort's private concierge team at the terminal. A tall lanky man with black hair and a smaller woman with a big smile. They greeted us with cold towels, fresh coconuts with straws, and flower necklaces for the twins who squealed in delight.“Woah! ” Timmy's mouth rounded to a perfect O as he took in the coconut and tropical palm trees.“Timmy.” Tiffany called, her eyes wide with awe “I think we're in Moana's village.” Her hazel eyes shot up to meet her father's amused stare. “Daddy, are we going to see the reef?” she asked seriously.“I want to paddle a canoe,” Timmy added bouncing on his heels. The concierge pair laughed warmly “You have adorable children.” The lady said with sincerity. I smiled at her, feeling a surge of pride. Thane's hand rested on my back, his eyes held a beautiful twinkle as they darted from our children to me.“Adorable and perfect.” he said, “Just like their mother.”A whole new swarm of butterflies erup

Thane's Pov. The meeting dragged longer than it should have. Much to my Asian client's disdain, I kept glancing at my watch, thinking of Andera, Timmy, and Tiffany at the bakery and all the family time I was missing out on. Thankfully, the wedding was a stone's throw away, after which we'd go on our honeymoon - the twins included, to a place far removed, deep in the mountains. I heaved out a sigh of relief when we rounded things up. Something had been gnawing at me the entire meeting. I brushed it off as the feeling of missing out, but now that the meeting is over, I realize it's because Atlas didn't check in with me. He was supposed to give me information once they reached the bakery, and departed too. Andrea had also said she'd call me on her way back. I haven't received her call, and she should have been back by now. I called once. No answer. Twice. Nothing. By the third ring, my gut twisted sharply. I stood from my chair when the call ended and reached out to Paul “Postpon

Andera's povI could hear the blood pounding in my ears. My pulse spiked, I drew the twins closer to me.“Mommy is something wrong?” Timmy asked with a trembling voice.Atlas drew out his gun, Tiffany let out a piercing scream, Timmy burrowed into my side, his fists clutching my shirt.“Stay down.” Atlas's voice carried a note of urgency I had not heard before. My throat dried as I pulled the kids down with me to the floor of the car. “At..Atlas. Wh..what's going on?” I couldn't hear myself over the erratic beating of my heart. Oh God! What could be happening? My body trembled with fear. I reached into my purse with shaky fingers to call for help. Somehow, over the loud thumping in my chest and the shakiness of my body, I heard the sound of metal clashing against metal behind us, of tires screeching, and a loud bang.My hand flew to my mouth to stifle my horrified scream; the car behind us had just been hit.Tiffany burst into tears, and Timmy joined immediately. “Mommy”I hushed t

Andera's Pov.Tiffany tugged on her daddy's pants, giving him those cute hazel eyes both of us found hard to say No to. “Please, Daddy, please. Pretty pleaseeee”I bit back a grin when Timmy joined, grabbing the other leg. “Please, Daddy.”They were both using their child charm on him, and it was working. Thane ran a hand over his face like a defeated man. His eyes ping-ponged between the two rascals, weaponizing their asset of cuteness. There was love in his eyes, bright and unwavering, but there was also guilt, the kind only a parent would have when forced to choose duty over time with their family.“Help me.” Thane mouthed in my direction. I cleared my throat, stepping in. “Timmy and Tiffany Reinhardt, come here.”Timmy pouted, folded his arms, and stomped his foot over to my side; Tiffany held on though, sheathing her biggest weapon-big puppy hazel eyes. Thane's throat bobbed, he hated saying no to the twins. While Timmy was more understanding, Tiffany would likely throw a fit

Andera's pov. I stopped by Becky's to see how they were doing; thankfully, Jeremy is walking now with the aid of crutches; they both promised to be in attendance for the wedding. It's two more weeks to forever! I grinned and stopped at the red light. Thane and I were putting the finishing touches on our preparations. The kids and I have been so giddy ever since. I know Thane Is equally excited; he's not just bouncy like me, Timmy, and Tiffany. Explaining our remarriage to the kids had been quite a task; they kept sprouting question upon question, but they were later distracted with the promise of cakes, partying, and participating in the wedding. I drive home on autopilot. The gates opened as I pulled up in the garage; I caught sight of Thane waiting on the terrace. “Welcome back,” Thane says with a soft smile as I join him. He's wearing a crisp white shirt folded at the wrist and pants that hugged him. It was unfair how he looked insanely handsome in his casual wear. One

Andera's pov. Today was for the girls—just me, Rosa, and Tiffany.Timmy pouted as we left the house, arms crossed and lips pushed out dramatically. “Why do the girls get all the fun?” he asked, for the third time. I ruffled his hair and kissed his forehead. “You’re going to get your tuxedo tested with Daddy, and he also promised you ice cream afterward. That's pretty fun too.”He nodded, his pout loosening at the mention of ice cream. I watched as Father and Son dressed up to go to the tailor. My heart doing the happy dance somersault of someone in love. With the wedding just four weeks away, our preparations have kicked into full gear, We arrived at one of Seattle's most exclusive bridal houses. The boutique was known for Its elegance and custom gowns. It smelled like soft roses and expensive fabrics when we stepped in. The bright lighting poured from the crystal-like chandeliers to the rows of dresses that looked like art.“Woah.” Tiffany's mouth flew open in awe “Mommy, it lo

Andera's pov. The clouds darkened as I made my way to my car. It was all clear skies this morning. Now it's threatening to rain, typical Seattle weather. Well, on the bright side, at least it didn't start before I made this visit. I slipped into the driver's seat of my car right as the rain started pouring down. Two weeks ago, I got that call from Atlas. I met Becky in a physically sound state, emotionally- not at all good. Her fall was a result of a call from her sister, telling her that her son had been involved in a motorbike accident. Becky left immediately to tend to her son. I turn on my car engine and drive out from the hospital's parking lot. Jeremy - Becky's son, had been recovering. Thankfully, he was wearing a helmet at the time of his motorbike accident, so no damage went to his head, but he did break some important bones in his legs. The doctor assured us that with the proper treatment and rehabilitation, he would be able to walk again. Thane and I had been visiting

Andera's pov.Seattle hadn't changed, The normal moody skies and busy traffic. My office hadn’t changed either. The floor to ceiling glass windows remained the same as with the walls, and the same soft buzz of conversations and typing that filled every corridor of Auraspire Energies. But I had changed.A whole lot, not that I dyed my hair a different color and got some tats. There was a new weight on my left hand—cool, solid, impossible to ignore. And everyone noticed. The second I stepped off the executive elevator. I caught lingering glances at my hand, the glances changed to widened eyes and whispered exchanges.Congratulations, ma’am,” Lucy, one of my very loyal workers said as I passed the marketing wing. I smiled my thanks at her; despite being the CEO, I kept my relationship with my workers professional and cordial.“Welcome back, Boss! The Maldives looked good on you,” another called out.“Damn, that ring could finance half our solar grid,” Alex, our lead engineer, muttered wi

Thane's povShe knows I'm lying. I know that she knows I'm lying. I watched her and the kids sleep peacefully in the cabin; it's been hours since we left, and we'd be home soon. Home. Warmth spread its way all over my body. I had doubted Andera would accept my proposal. Hell, I hadn't even wanted to propose yet, although I carried the ring everywhere with me. But Maldives had been an eye opener, I realized, for what would be the hundredth time, that I wanted to spend every day of my life with her. I wanted us to have beautiful vacations and getaways, laugh together, and share our tough moments. Like taking her to the sea of stars, the proposal had also been a gamble; thank the universe that the stars(above and below) were in my favor. I didn't know what I'd do if she had turned me down. But there's another problem I have to fix. I hated lying to Andera, but fúck, I couldn't put her in that position of anxiety and worry again. She's under the illusion that no one is after her, that

Andera’s pov.The day of departure came too soon. I cracked an eye open to find Thane still sleeping, looking rested; his skin was sun-kissed, slightly darker than when we first arrived. A glint of light caught my eye. The diamond ring on my finger sparkled in the morning sun that spilled through my window, and again I felt like I was floating on a bed of roses. I let my eyes linger on the ocean, the calm blue-green waters. Maldives was everything I'd hoped it would be, and then some. I gently got up to take my bath, the ring felt warm on my fingers. A perfect fit, just like Thane.Last night, I was riding the high of adrenaline and excitement, but now I have time to think. I turned on the steam, letting it envelop me.‘How would we run our companies now that we were getting married? Would we join it together or run separately?’‘What would the media say? Getting married for the second time?’‘Would the public point accusing fingers at us for marrying so soon after Melissa's death?’
