Surprise gift

Xavier~

"Oh, so you want a divorce from me, huh?" I raise my brow at her.

I always wanted to get rid of her, but the idea of asking her for a divorce in exchange for returning my firm to me hurt my ego. How can a low-standard woman insult me in this way? My dad's announcement has already angered me, and now she's fueling my already simmering rage.

"Yes, Xavier Thompson, you heard me right—I want divorce." As she stared right into my eyes, her voice challenged me.

I never thought she would suddenly be that fearless. Her eyes were typically kind toward me, but now they were blazing with something that looked like anger.

I looked at the legal papers for the company that were on the ground. Did I accept her demand? I own this company, so she can't ask for anything in exchange for giving it back to me. But all she's asking for is a divorce, so it's a win-win for me.

I turned to face the party guests and my family members. They were all looking at me with dissatisfaction. Will taking a law firm in exchange for a divorce from her not cast doubt on my worth and talent? Why should I agree to her demand when I am competent enough to start a legal firm? I questioned myself.

But I always wanted to divorce her, and I always dreamt of leading this firm so that I could make it the number one law firm in the USA.

"OK, I accept your condition." I looked at Alicia and smiled lovingly at her beautiful face.

"Give me two minutes, and I will be there." I excused myself and returned to my room to take the divorce file.

I processed the divorce without informing anyone, as I was eager to separate from her after my dad's announcement.

"Humm... so that blue file is your surprise for our anniversary." She smiled bitterly on seeing the divorce file.

I stored this blue file safely in my locker, hidden from her and out of the reach of Victor and the other people in the house.

"You understand, so sign those papers and disappear into my life." I gave her a pen so she could sign the paperwork.

"Do you want your thumb impression to appear on a stamp pad instead of a signature?" I made fun of her fiery attitude.

She silently withdrew the pen from my grasp, signed the divorce papers, and threw them in my direction.

"Xavier Thompson, you are free from now, and I pray to God that we will never cross paths again. Thank you for such a wonderful gift on our wedding anniversary." She stormed out of the party hall, flinging the wedding ring in my direction.

Everyone stood quietly, staring at her.

I gathered the divorce and firm ownership documents, and I told everyone to have fun at the celebration.

"Xavier, I am so happy today that you broke your marriage with her." As Isabella left the party hall, Alicia hugged me in front of everyone.

"I, too, feel suffocated by that marriage." I kissed Alicia's forehead and knelt before her to propose.

We immediately got engaged after she accepted my proposal. Because I've always wanted to marry Alicia, I've already bought her a stunning diamond ring. She is the only love of my life.

I looked at my dad's face after the engagement, seeking his blessings.

"Xavier, you will regret your actions one day. After what you did to her, I am unable to share a home with you."

"But, Dad. I never loved her." I made an effort to soothe his rage.

"Xavier, you lost all the right to tell me your dad; I am breaking all ties with you. Now enjoy your success with your new wife." Angrily, he departed the party hall.

"Grayson and Dixie, why don't you ask Dad to calm down his anger? He has a high blood pressure issue." I turned and gazed at them.

"We have to leave, Dixie; our children are waiting for us." Grayson asked Dixie to leave the party hall.

I turned to face Victor, who was silently observing everything while standing in the party hall's corner.

"Victor, I am sorry. I don't mean to hurt you because of that bitch; it's all part of the past." I walked towards him to hug him.

"Xavier, don't you dare to talk nonsense about her; she is not your wife, but she is still my friend, and I can not bear my friend's insult." He also left the party hall behind Grayson.

When other guests noticed they were leaving the party hall, they all followed suit. To celebrate my victory, Alicia and I were the only ones left in the party hall.

"They all abandoned us, Alicia. We must go apologize to Dad." I sighed deeply as I sat on the stool at the bar counter.

I am currently experiencing a significant amount of weight on my chest, as I never anticipated that my father would abandon me in this manner. This all happened because of Isabella. She played with my dad’s mind. She manipulated my family members so that they would stay by her side. My blood boiled at the thought of Isabella, so to satisfy my anger, I threw all the glass on the floor, shattering it into pieces.

"Calm down, sweetheart. You don't have to be upset or depressed because I'll always be there for you, and we can defeat any foe together. We'll prove to everyone that you deserve to be the company's CEO, and I do not doubt that your father will soon pardon you after witnessing your growth." She kissed my lips to calm my fury.

"Let's get married soon. I am afraid that your ex-wife will plot something evil to trick you." She looked at me with fear-filled eyes.

Alicia is right; I have to marry her soon. I fully understand that Isabella might try to retaliate against me. We tied the knot on the same day to eliminate any chance of her coming back. My life is happy and fulfilling after marrying Alicia. For me, it's like a dream come true—until I realize that the radiant beauty conceals a dark side. My lovely dream quickly became a nightmare that pulled me through the hardest time of my life.
