“Please come in.” Sherry put on her mask and doctor apron as soon as she heard the knock on her door. She stood up from the chair she was sitting on and went to the patient counseling desk to wait on the patient.
She never usually took patients in her row office until they were extremely VIP patients or extremely injured patients who needed her help as soon as possible.
“But who could it be?” She was also curious about this sudden patient. But honestly speaking, she was really thankful for this new patient who came as her saving grace.
She did not want to go home today since her uncle and aunt were waiting there for her. As for her own apartment, she did not want to go there as well since she did not want to be alone today.
Staying in the hospital was her only escape route at the moment but it could never be her permanent solution. She had to think and act fast before she was harmed by her fiancé in other ways.
Chris finally snapped back to reality after he had reached the lobby of the hospital from the parking lot. Taking one last look at his hand which held the business card of Levian Smith, he gulped down the saliva that had been stuck on his throat all this time. He put the card inside his wallet with great care as if it was a big treasure. ‘I will need to pay visit to sir Levian and his wife with fruits and flowers,’ he smiled uncannily as he planned to make a good impression of himself on Levian Smith, the only guy who was powerful enough to help him if he really did mess up things. ‘If things do not go well with Sherry, I can….hehehe,’ “Excuse me sir,” a voice called out to him, drawing away his attention from his beautiful dream to the dull reality. His body shivered a little when a hand tapped on his shoulder out of nowhere. He quickly turned around and saw an old lady with a mop looking at him. ‘It’s the janitor lady,’ he fr
“Wait, I forgot something,” Sherry said as she stopped walking. Both Levian and Roy looked at the doctor in surprise.“Is something the matter?” Roy asked real quickly.“Noo no, umm…I need to sign the record real quick,” she explained herself politely to both the strangers who had become not so stranger after talking with them for a bit.“Sure, you can take your time,” Levian said as she opened his arm. He wanted her to fell that she was not being forced or compelled to comply with him. She was she and her choices and life came before anything.“We will be waiting in the parking lot,” he said with a smile as he gestured towards Roy to start walking.“Miss, we will see you later,” he said while giving her a courtesy bow.Sherry nodded her head at both of them and swiftly turned around. She sprinted towards the lobby where the records were kept. Although she h
“Thank you for waiting,” a tired voice called out to the two men who were talking in the parking lot.“Mr. Smith,” Sherry forced a smile as she gazed at Levian who was standing as he waited for her. She looked at Roy and also managed to smile at him with a slight bow.Levian said nothing as he moved his gaze all over her face as if searching for something. Seeing that she was fine, he finally exhaled out a sigh of relief. He had been worried sick about her going back there on her own.He had seen Chris, that hateful man loitering around the reception area from the corner of his eyes when they were returning from her office. He would have loved to stop her from going but he did not want to interfere in her own personal matters. It was hot in the parking lot even though it was already evening. Sherry lifted up all the loose strands of her hair from around her neck and twisted them around her bun which was already getting messy.
Chapter 29“Aunty! I am back,” Sherry called out cheerfully as she pushed open the door of the house. The day had been tiring and now, she was craving the warm soup made by the old aunt. Thinking about the taste of the spices in the soup made her heart warm from within.Despite the unease she was feeling inside her heart, she held onto the small thread of hope and warmth.‘Why are all the lights off? I think uncle and aunt are not back yet,’ she thought as she took out her phone. Turning on the flashlight she made her way to the switch wall to turn on the lights.Click! The switch produced clicking sound which was accompanied by the bright light as the bulbs and tube lights glowed. Looking around she saw that everything looked the same as she had left behind. There was not even small change in the appearance of the room. Just as she was about to walk, her feet hit something on the floor. Curious, she looked down.
Chapter 30What are you going to do now?! Inconsiderate boss!!’ Roy panicked in his heart seeing that his boss was once again advancing to invade the private space of the lady. Of course, he did not have the guts to say that to his face. He still valued his life and his job.Levian stopped a few steps away from Sherry, whose back was turned to him. She was neither crying nor she was showing any sign of anguish and pain. Seeing her sit there motionless like that made Levian feel bitter in his heart.“Stand up-”“I know.”A hoarse voice finally spoke up. It was Sherry who still was bowing down her head. She was looking down at the face on her lap but the expression on her eyes was hidden away by the shadow of her disheveled hair.“I know she is dead, and I also know that I would catch cold if I keep on staying here,” Sherry said without much emotion. The fact that her voice was absolutely normal was th
Chapter 31“We will contact you soon,” a man in medical gear said as he looked at Levian and Sherry. He shook his hand with Levian before e he too mounted the ambulance. After closing the door, he and the ambulance went away.“What are you going to do now?” Levian asked Sherry as they watched the ambulance take away the dead body. They stood at the entrance of the mansion without speaking. The silence continued until the ambulance had disappeared completely from their sight. The wind whistled past them- Sherry shivered a bit as she was just in a thin sweatshirt. Before she could react, she felt arms around her while warmth from a fabric surrounded her.Levian had taken off his coat and draped it around her shoulders. It was not much, but it was more than enough to block the wind. As for the previous question he asked her, he was not bothered by not getting answer from her.No matter what she decided to do, he was going to su
Chapter 32Knock KnockThere was a silent knock on the door. It pulled both Levian and Sherry back to reality. Levian raised his head to look at the door. Was it Roy? Sherry too looked at Levian in questioning gaze.“Enter.”Upon getting the confirmation from his voice, the door opened with a creaking sound. Both of them immediately recognized the silhouette that stood in the door.“Roy,” Both Levian and Sherry shouted out in unison when they saw him. When he had left, he looked perfectly normal. But now, there was something wrong about him. That red liquid on his forehead…was that blood? Sherry turned ghastly pale upon seeing the man stumble inside the room.“What’s wrong? Why are you injured?” Sherry asked in horror as he helped him inside the room. She beat Levian to it. Before he even had chance to help the guy in, Sherry had reacted to the man almost immediately.“Hah,
Chapter 33“Doctor, its fine. We can buy the medicine later,” Roy said with a smile. This type of injury was something he was used to. A goodnight sleep was bound to fix him.Sherry looked at him for a bit and nodded. As for Roy, he looked at Levian and controlled his urge to laugh. He had never seen his boss stiffened on the spot.“It’s alright boss, you do not have to go now,” he chuckled. In reality, his boss did know how to do things such as shopping. When he started his own business from scratch, he did not take single penny from his grandfather. He wanted to show he was more than capable of forming his own business empire and after struggling for 5 years, he was finally the top of the business world. So, his grandfather had finally approved of his skill and talent and decided to keep the family business for someone else. But all this time, he wanted to pass the family company to the eldest grandson of his aka Lev
“Your Lordship.” Stephan knocked on the door from the outside as he waited for permission to enter the master bedroom. A few seconds passed with no reply.“Your Lordship?” He called him again, a little louder this time. After what felt like an eternity, he heard the lock click open from the inside. As the door swung open, he immediately fixed his posture, standing straight in an attentive position. “He’s still sleeping,” a woman in a loosely fitted silk nightgown said as she walked out, her dark hair falling over her shoulders and a lazy smile playing on her lips. She paused in front of Stephan, her siren-like eyes studying him. “You see,” she winked at him flirtily, “he needs to rest.” Her hand reached out to his neck before resting on his collar. “I can give you company until he wakes up,” she added with a seductive smile, but he didn’t react, maintaining his composed demeanor.“Tsk, boring!” she huffed, rolling her eyes before walking away and stepping into the lift to return
“You–you look,” Levian stuttered playfully as Sherry walked inside the room. Putting down the phone he was holding, he rose to his feet, waiting for Sherry to walk up to him.“Look what?” Sherry asked, suppressing the laughter that was about to escape her lips. Standing next to him, she gently tugged at the fake beard on his face. “This feels so real.”Levian helplessly sighed as he caught hold of her hands and pulled them away from his face. “You look beautiful,” Levian chuckled as he pressed his lips on the back of her palm. “Despite this, well, unconventional look.”After staring at her for a while, he added, “Pink suits you a lot.”“Oh really?” Sherry giggled. “You don’t look bad either,” Sherry added, gently patting him on his shoulder. “Just a tad bit older.”Roy scrunched his nose in disgust at the couple. They still had time to flirt around at a time like this.Apart from the fake beard and slicked-back hair that had streaks of gray, the prosthetics added sagging cheeks to Lev
“Sorry about what happened today,” Sherry apologized as she leaned back in her seat. She exhaled a pent-up sigh as she covered her face in her palm. She knew how important this party was for Levian. “It was not your fault, so don’t apologize!” Levian spoke in a low voice, suppressing his anger because he did not want to scare her anymore. Just thinking about how that bastard tried to misbehave with his wife made his blood boil in anger. “I should have never left you alone,” the words grated out of his mouth as he tightly gripped the wheel. “That son of a bitch!” If not for Sherry holding him back, he would have ripped off that little prick’s dick right there and thrown it to the street dogs to feed on.Even though he'd had a bit of wine, Levian was more clear-headed than ever. While Roy went to get the CCTV footage from the security team, Levian kept his eyes on Vincent. In the meantime, Sherry briefly mentioned how she met Vincent on the balcony and what went between them. When Roy
‘Vincent Troy?’ Sherry’s expression darkened almost immediately the moment she looked at him. ‘What is he doing here? Did he follow me?’ She tightly gripped her wine glass as she sidestepped away from the railings of the balcony while making sure her gaze not once left Vincent’s. Maintaining a calm face, she smiled at Vincent, “What a pleasant surprise, Mr. Vincent.” After making sure she was in a safe space she added, “I never thought I would see you after that day in the court.”“Fuck!” Vincent swore under his breath when he was reminded of how humiliatingly Sarah got divorced from him. Glaring at Sherry, he barked at her. “Watch what you say bitch!” The divorce trial in the court made him the laughingstock of the town. Along with his wife, he lost every asset he had in his name and was even disowned by his parents. As if sprinkling salt all over his wound, his father let him have the company that was on the verge of bankruptcy.Running his hands over his hair, he chuckled dangero
When the elderly ladies heard footsteps approaching, they stopped chatting and drinking. They tried to behave as casually as possible when they spotted Sherry walking towards their seating area with Madam Jasmine, even though they had been staring at her since she entered the dinner hall, acting surprised when she took a seat next to them. “Hello, ladies,” Sherry greeted everyone with a polite smile as she took one of the available seats. Madam Jasmine sat beside her and gestured to a waiter to bring over a drink for the new guest. By the time the waiter returned with the drinks, the group of ladies had finished introducing themselves. “Sorry, I don’t really drink,” Sherry quickly rejected the offer when a waiter approached her with a tray of wines. “I am not much of a drinker.” Her alcohol tolerance was notoriously low as she avoided drinking since she had to spend most of her time operating on patients. One of the ladies, Maisel, chuckled as she sipped her wine, "Don't be such a
Fleets of cars drove into the premises of Emerald City Banquet, where Victor Khas was hosting his party. The Banquet was lit with LED and fairy lights and decorated with flowers and sash wherever necessary. While the rest of the city prepared to retire for the night, the guests attending this exclusive event were just getting started. Unlike parties with stars from the entertainment industry, this was a private gathering for the city's leading businessmen and politicians. Therefore, maximum security had been arranged to ensure no paparazzi could enter, except for the designated photographers.Around 10 p.m., Levian and Sherry arrived at the banquet in a Rolls Royce driven by Roy. They were neither late, nor too early, and Levian loved this aspect of social gatherings like these. After all, it was all about making connections. The earlier you arrived, the more people you could meet and vice-versa. From that perspective, it made no sense for them to arrive earlier than necessary. By no
"Nice shot!" Levian clapped as Sherry hit the target dead center. Standing up, he walked over to her just as she was removing her headphones. She placed the gun on the counter and waited for him to approach.“I’ve improved a lot, haven’t I?” Sherry asked with a bright grin as Levian wrapped her in a hug. Pulling back, he chuckled before hugging her again. “Yep, you’re amazing.” And he wasn’t just saying that to make her feel better. Her precision was godlike. Now that she could handle the recoils of the gun, she could easily hit the target. Her focus was one-of-a-kind. Considering how she was the best neurosurgeon in the country, it pretty much made sense. She got better at handling guns than most of his men did and it had just been a week since they started!“Also, there was a call from Grandpa,” Levian said as they were preparing to leave the shooting range. “It seems Mr. Victor Khas is getting discharged today.” Sherry gave a light hum in response. It was better for him to recupera
“Whatever happened to strength training?” Sherry asked as she eyed the gun in her hand. She had expected wrestling or boxing training. Shooting practice was the farthest thing from her imagination. Levian chuckled. “This is better than wrestling,” he said as a man handed him a gun. He gave a light nod to the man. The men in black suits all left, leaving Sherry and Levian alone in the firing range. Pointing to a pair of headphones, he said, “Put them on, you will need them.” Sherry followed his instructions and fixed it around her head. Levian wasn’t wearing anything, but that was expected. He was used to this. When was the first time he learned to shoot? Sherry wondered as she watched him walk inside the booth and raise his gun, his attention all focused on the target in front of him. Bang! Bang! Bang!Levian fired three consecutive bullets, each hitting the pivotal area of the target–the forehead, the heart, and the lungs, while the third bullet lodged itself on the kneecap of the
“What were you talking about with Grandpa?” Levian asked as Sherry entered their room. After dinner, he had excused himself to his room as he was a bit occupied with his company’s work. He was seated behind a desk, working on his laptop after finishing dinner.“Just normal chit chat you know,” said Sherry as she sat down on the bed. Exhaling deeply, she threw herself on the bed, turning her head to look at Levian.Sherry noticed he hadn’t changed his dress. He was still wearing a white shirt, the one he had worn that morning. He had unbuttoned some of the topmost buttons, revealing his clavicle. Sherry gulped as she noticed the veins on his forearms that peeked out from under his messily rolled-up sleeves. “Mr. Smith,” Sherry spoke in a soft voice. “Are you trying to seduce me again?”“Seduce?” Levian raised his eyebrows, quickly faking a frown, “Looks like I need to teach you its real meaning.”Turning around in the chair, he gestured for her to come forward with one hand, while the
