By the time he had reached his company, it was already late at night. All of his employees had already left for home, leaving the company empty. Only the security guards were in the vicinity, preparing for their night shift. He used the elevator to go up to the floor where his office was located. The lights in his office, however, were still turned on.“Boss!” Roy called up from his working desk when he heard the door open.“Did you call his family?” Levian asked Roy as soon as he entered his office. Although he worked remotely from home often, working in the office had its own perks. Sitting on his chair, he extended his hand, asking for reports from Roy.“Yes, boss,” Roy said as he handed him a file. “His wife said she would arrive tomorrow.”“What about his son? Is he coming?” Levian asked.“It seems he has gone abroad for the time being. He should come here once he gets the news,” Roy apologized for not being able to provide a proper answer.Levian flipped through the pages and co
Since she had promised Levian she would take good care of herself, Sherry decided to go and eat something in the cafe to refill her energy for the night.“Sherry!” The hospital director called her as she was exiting the cafeteria. Looking at the direction he was coming from, he seemed to be coming from his office.“Yes?” Sherry turned sideways and came face-to-face with the director who was a few steps away from her. Sherry looked at her watch. It showed it was already 9 pm. Seeing him loitering around in the hospital compound this late at night was unusual, especially when he was used to leaving work on the dot.“Did you not leave yet, Mr. Stephen?” Sherry asked, albeit curious as she walked towards him. “I had some work,” the hospital director smiled and said, “I was just about to leave work.” He looked at her in silence before speaking again. “I needed to talk to you about something real quick.”“Is anything the matter?” Sherry carefully observed Stephen. Apart from him doing som
Inside the power room, in front of the switchgear panel, a tall and well-built man stood with his back facing the entrance, concealed by the shadow. He was dressed in a light green uniform commonly worn by janitors in the hospital, obscuring his appearance. This was not the place where janitors were supposed to be in. Rather, the security guard who was supposed to keep an eye on this place was on the floor, unconscious.“I am in the power room,” the janitor said to the person he was on a call with. “Give me the cue and I am all set.”“Good, you better not fail this time,” an automated voice snickered, “like all those fools before you.”The janitor spoke with a hoarse voice that was deeply engraved with hatred. “I won’t fail.” He gritted his teeth. Not this time!“Let your action speak louder.”There was a brief silence before the automated voice spoke again.“It’s time.” The call automatically cut off.The janitor pressed a few buttons and knobs on the switch gear panel, his action
Without turning back, Sherry followed her instinct and ran along the familiar but dark corridor. She could hear footsteps behind her when she was halfway done. She gritted her teeth and increased her pace as she made a run for it.“Ahh,” Sherry hissed in pain when she fell down on her knees. Wobbling, she forced herself to stand up and even if she was limping, she continued to run.She knew she could not have hurt Chris when she hit him back there, but it was enough to buy time for her to keep her distance between them. Taking the help of her muscle memory, she finally reached the open lobby of the 7th floor.“A-anyone? Help!” She shouted as soon as she was in the open but got no response. As she rushed out of the hallway, she noticed that the light in the other buildings was still on. It was only her floor that had lost its power. Also, weirdly, there was no one there except her at that moment…as if she was isolated and everything was planned. “I need to live first,” Sherry powered
Sherry slowly opened her eyes, feeling a dull ache in her head. She blinked a few times, trying to focus on her surroundings. All she could see was a bright, sterile-looking room with white walls and a single window. She's lying in a clean, white bed, hooked up to an IV drip that's connected to her left hand. ‘Where am I?’ Frowning, Sherry thought. She struggled to sit up but was stopped by a sharp pain in her leg. She strained her eyes before finally, she could get a better look at the room."Easy there," a voice said. She turned her head to see Levian sitting by her side, looking concerned. "How are you feeling?"Sherry took a deep breath, trying to collect her thoughts. "I'm okay," she said, though her voice was weak. "Where are we?"Levian looked at her with a mixture of sadness, regret, and relief. "The Capital hospital is no longer safe," he said. "So I transferred us to a private hospital owned by my grandfather."Sherry's eyes widened in surprise. "Your grandfather owns a hos
The underground cell was dimly lit, casting eerie shadows on the walls. The bulbs that hung from the wall were flickering- as if it was about to go out any second. Just beneath the bulb, two chairs were kept opposite each other. Two men, Chris, and the assassin who had tried to attack Victor, were tied to chairs, unconscious. Both of their faces were swollen and filled with bruises, indicating the rough night they had. “Wake them up!”A tall and imposing figure dressed in a black suit stood before them. “Yes, sir.” Levian watched in indifference as Roy splashed water on the two men, awakening them with a jolt.Levian wasted no time, his gaze locked onto Chris. "Who gave you the order to kill Sherry?" he demanded. “I-I don’t know what you are talking about.” Chris denied any knowledge. Levian reached out and grabbed Chris by his throat. “Don’t play dumb with me Chris!” Levian roared as he landed a punch on his face, making Chris wince in pain.“I really don’t know!” Chris said as he
Donald Kruk stopped struggling and froze in horror when he heard the chilling voice. He looked around the room, taking in the dim lighting and the imposing figures surrounding him when he noticed a half-dead man tied to a chair.“Y-You!” Sweat beads formed on his forehead when he realized why he had been brought here. He recognized the man. He tried to hide his fear, but he knew it was written all over his face.Donald Kruk had always been a man of nerves of steel, but as he stood before Levian, he couldn't help but feel a chill run down his spine. Levian was a formidable presence, with his towering frame and piercing eyes.Levian strode forward, his black suit emphasizing his powerful build. "I've been waiting for you," he said, his voice low and menacing. He walked slowly around the room, his gaze locked on Donald. "You must be wondering why you're here.”He said, "You owe me some explanation, don’t you?"“W-What ever do you mean by that?” Donald shivered under the menacing gaze. He
When Sherry woke up again, she was alone in the ward. Since she felt much better, she did not feel like sleeping anymore. She sat up on her bed and rang the bell to call for a nurse. She looked around for Levian but there was no sign of him. “Did he go somewhere?” Sherry remembered telling him everything from last night before the medicine kicked in and she drifted to sleep. The door to her ward opened and the doctor who she had seen before walked in. “Any discomforts?” He asked politely as he gave her a subtle check-up. “None,” Sherry thanked the doctor with a slight smile.“If you want to, you can take a walk around,” the doctor suggested. “It will be better for you to get some fresh air too.”After the doctor left the room, Sherry walked out of the bed and wrapped a shawl around her. Still, in her hospital pajamas, she decided to take a stroll around the hospital.“Hmmm,” Sherry breathed in a fresh breeze as she stopped to take a break inside a garden. Since the hospital was a priv
