Chapter 2
Jaden Scotts **************** Jaden Scott is a tall and muscular guy with trimmed jet-black curly hair and blue eyes. He is 23 years old.Mostly, he's a mess. ******He got out of his car that evening feeling fatigued. As usual, his nights were shaky. There was nothing that made this worse than getting called on the job first thing in the morning. He got up, took a shower, and decided to skip breakfast as usual. He always gets his breakfast from a coffee shop close to his office. As he approached the crime scene, he raised the yellow tape with the phrase "Police line do not cross" written on it, and he could already feel the eerie atmosphere.Although he was used to the job, he just couldn't get familiar with crime scenes. It was a duplex. The deceased was a woman named Carrie Sam, a 24-year-old blonde, stabbed repeatedly in the chest and eye.He bent to examine her body as it lay on the cold floor in a pool of already clotted blood. He stayed there, trying to envision how her murder took place, feeling nothing but sadness."Her mouth was open and her eyes too. Was she screaming? And why couldn't her neighbors hear her?" He thought it was obvious from her strained face that she was yelling for help, plus there were marks on her neck showing she had been strangled first. JADEN'S POV:I was used to seeing dead bodies, but I've never seen one so brutally killed. If strangling was enough to kill her, then why repeatedly stab her? I began to write down my observations."She's young," said Aaron from the forensic team."Did she have a boyfriend?" I asked, barely looking at him."Yes she does. As a matter of fact, the neighbors said they saw him leave the house at about 2 am in the morning. We have gathered all the fingerprints needed and sent them to the biometric department, but they all belong to Miss Carrie." He replied.I nodded slowly and walked towards the music speaker in the room.Whoever killed her is definitely not an amateur."I guess I understand why her neighbors couldn't hear her; they drowned out her voice with loud music," I thought to myself before writing again."Come with me," Aaron said as he led the way. I followed him downstairs, and he showed me all the things they had stacked in white plastic bags as evidence for the investigation.A high-heeled shoe?"Why do we have a shoe as possible evidence?" I asked, not hiding my confusion."The victim wears a size 8 and that shoe in the plastic bag is a size 10 found in the kitchen." He replied."Let's go to the kitchen." I ordered.Aaron followed me into the kitchen, and there were two badly kept knives with bloodstains."Get me a plastic bag," I said, and Aaron quickly handed one over. "Send this over for a biometric scan immediately.Let them check for fingerprints and run a DNA test. I need the results before the end of the day.""Ai ai, Sir," replied Aaron playfully. In less than 10 minutes, Aaron was back. "Anything new?" He asked"I feel this is a relationship problem, and we need to speak to her boyfriend." "He's our first lead," I said, walking out of the kitchen."Lock the house and keep the security line up; we'll be back once the results are out." I continued.I felt dizzy and started to lose my balance. The air felt tighter and I started to sweat. "Jaden, are you okay?" Aaron asked, using his hand to help me. "Um yeah. I haven't been getting enough sleep lately. I've been having these weird dreams but I'm fine now, carry on" I replied, finding my balanceAaron nodded as he walked away.I drove to the coffee shop, just a few blocks away, and as I entered the shop, I felt some serenity. Why do I feel so at ease? Like I didn't just stare at the dead body of a young person.I walked up to the counter to place an order.I noticed there was a new employee, and she looked oddly familiar.I kept thinking about where I might have seen her.She was so beautiful, with her platinum dyed hair and rosy red lips. Not the kind of beauty you'd easily forget. She handed the cup of coffee to me after staring at me for a few minutes, which I'm completely used to. I slowly shook my head, took it and walked away quickly. That was weird, very weird.I couldn't explain the feeling. Now about my nightmares... well, most of them are dreams I forget the second I wake up.I have been having them for as long as I can remember.I literally dream every day and it's messed up.I sometimes act weird, talk weird, I don't even have friends except my best man Aaron, but I've had females that wanted to get into bed with me and well, sometimes they did.The option was to try to lose some sleep in the night, and sex felt right.Sometimes I feel like I don't know who I am or what I want and it makes me pretty miserable. I'm going to stop there before you think I'm crazy.I was at the club that night.I picked up a girl named Stacy and tried hitting it off with her in my car...just then I heard a loud thud on the car, so loud it felt like a building collapsed. I got out quickly and tried to check what it was but there was nothing. I saw five men dressed in black by the alley.Stacy had run off out of fear, and voices filled my head. The men had disappeared. "Who are you guys and what do you want?" I screamed. The first voice spoke, to the others, "Are you really sure that this is Prince Jaden? He feels like a weakling." "This is where they said he would be found. They can't lie,"another voice replied. It was like a conversation in my head and I had no control over it."Let's kill him and be over with it."What did they say? They wanted to kill me? What the hell did they mean by killing me? Am I going mad?I thought to myself, holding my head in my arms as the voices grew louder. Maybe it was my dreams again. All I had to do was wake up."What do you want from me?"I asked, but they seemed so uninterested in this question. If they wanted to kill me, why were there so many? "Five against one."I felt a punch on the face. It hurt so badly that I fell down as the metallic taste of my own blood filled my mouth. The five men were slowly coming back into the picture.I got really angry and scared at the same time as people from the club trooped out and began to stare at me, the crazy man.I had no idea that I was the only person that could see the five men, and so I kept pointing at nothing in particular.Trying to get up, I felt a series of blows and kicks all over my body. Then a distant voice echoed from one of them."We were told to make your death slow and painful. Sins of the parents, the offspring shall suffer the punishment."What the hell did he mean by that? Just then, I heard another voice in my head. This time it was a lot more peaceful than the rest of the voices."You need to get up now...let your rage be your strength."The voice was so clear, it was like I had someone living in me.My anger began to rise. Why was I being beaten up for no reason? I felt a huge strength engulf me.It was different.Taking a stance, my fist clenched. I could see them clearly now. They weren't just voices or another nightmare, they were real.I threw a punch at the first one and immediately it flew back, hitting his back on the wall hard.Damn, where did that strength come from? I took a lot of Judo classes while training as a detective, but that strength was extraordinary."He has regained his powers. We need to end him now!" The shortest of them spoke.I grabbed him by the throat and broke his neck.My killer intent was unstoppable. One by one, I took them down.A bright light surrounded me, and I felt more empowered. "Your anger has become your strength," the voice said again."That's right!" I replied, smiling to myself. After a while, they all lay on the ground, lifeless.People still stared and pointed. Didn't they see what I just went through?Immediately, the power left me and I felt my body grow numb as I fell to the ground, almost unconscious.Just then, someone lifted me. My vision was too poor to make out anything.I could only see the beautiful platinum hair. It wasn't Stacy, stacy's hair is black. It had to be... Could it be? I strained even further. The woman from the coffee shopShe looked really worried. Was she crying? My body gave in as my eyes closed, finding solace in the darkness.Chapter 3ROWENA'S POV"Working in a coffee shop was a lot harder than I expected," I thought, as I walked down the road after work that evening. I had to attend to various kinds of people, and there was one older man that couldn't make up his mind, and it was very frustrating."What can I get you, sir?" I asked with a smile. "A cup of latte please," he replied, and I went to get it for him. After I returned with it, "Did I say latte? I mean iced Americano" he said."Excuse me, sir," I said, raising my voice."You're going to have to pay for the latte I already got.""I made a mistake, all humans make mistakes," he said sentimentally. "I know, sir, but we can't lose because of your errors," I replied calmly, ignoring the rage rising in my throat."It's fine, that's enough," Peter interrupted when the man was about to reply. "I'll pay for it," he added, and that was it.It annoyed me that he decided to be the bigger person but I just kept mute the rest of the day.I kept walking, a
Chapter 4*The Wizard Kingdom, The Central Coven Of Wizardry.*Queen Griselda, the Witch of the Central Coven, sat in her golden chair looking at the five sons of Zed who were utterly beaten up and bloody from the fight last night. She stood up, paced a little, and then sat back down, took a look at the wizard beside her, and shook her head in disappointment."You had one simple instruction, and that was to bring Prince Jaden to me."Torak, the leader of the brothers, spoke up in pain. "We had no idea it would lead to a bloody fight. We tried to reason with..."he stated.Griselda's eyes furrowed with confusion. "You tried to talk someone into joining you and he ended up beating you all to a pulp? That story sounds eerie to me, did you perhaps enrage him?" she asked, picking up her wand.Torak's eyes widened as he stared at Rafael, who stood close to Queen Griselda. Rafael is the Queen's right-hand man and royal wizard. She told him to send the sons of Zed to bring Jaden back alive, bu
Chapter 5WRITER'S POV"You again!" He looked surprised."We need to leave now." Rowena said, rushing to the other part of the car and getting in.Jaden wondered why this coffee lady was stalking him, but with the intensity in her voice, he felt that something was really wrong. For some reason, he believed her. As he got in, he began driving. His mom was buried in a small church cemetery in Roseville. So the drive to the main town takes about an hour or so. They were driving in silence, and Jaden was a bit confused about everything. He immediately put the car to a halt."Why'd you stop?" She asked nicely. He cursed himself for not even thinking, "What if this lady was some serial killer?"Rowena knew that he had a lot of questions, but this wasn't the time to answer them."Who the hell are you really?"..and why did you follow me all the way from town to Roseville? Are you stalking me?""Eu.. Jaden, I understand that you need answers, but now is really not the time for...""Wait, how
JADEN'S POV I slowly opened my eyes, trying to ignore the splitting headache I was having. The evil... woman, wizard, lady was gone, and the coffee shop girl was lying beside me. Images of what had just happened flooded my mind as I stood on the road. "I really used magic?" I asked, staring at my arms like they were going to answer me. I pointed to a tree and yelled "flames." Nothing happened, but a few birds flew away because my yell startled them. "Flames is a little too cliché. Wizard spells should be all spooky and scary," I said to myself. I assumed a more confident stance and yelled, " Flamino uhhh fireo?" "What the hell am I doing?" I giggled and immediately realized the coffee lady was still on the ground. "Hey, are you okay?" I tapped vigorously. She was burning up and was unconscious, so I quickly took her to my house. I paced to and fro as I waited for her to wake up. I had tons of questions after I did a mental check to make sure all I'd just experienced was not o
WRITER'S POV Rafael immediately walked to the cell where Gwen was being held and asked the guards around to leave so he could question her privately. "You said something about him being accompanied by someone?" Rafael asked Gwen, who was bound by chains on both hands and feet. "Yes, do you think I won't be able to handle a person who just found out he could use magic?" She snapped. "I did not say I don't believe you; what did she look like?" Rafael asked, biting his fingers like he feared her response. "She had platinum hair, and her eyes were too glittery and blue; she looked like a real human woman till the moment she started to glow." " Her....." Gwen cried, her eyes tearing up. "It's exactly as I feared." He already has a guardian beside him; I don't know how that's possible," Rafael replied, turning to leave. "Why do you want to kill him?" Gwen yelled in despair, and Rafael raced back in. "How dare you yell that?" Rafael spoke fiercely; he walked close to her and took her
"Do you not want me to stay?" Giselle asked as I stood with my hands crossed over my chest while she stood on my doorstep. She came unannounced, not like she ever tells me before she comes, saying she was going to be staying with me for a few weeks because she believes I'm lonely and likely to make vile decisions. She was dressed in a black long jacket, black shorts, and, I kid you not, a top hat, looking like a low-budget magician."Come in," I muttered, moving aside for her to step in. I didn't notice a suitcase till she was fully inside the apartment."Wow! "You are really serious," I said unbelievably, and I walked to my room and slammed the door behind her. It wasn't making any sense at all,"Open the door this instant before I get mad," she yelled, banging on the door, and I swear I saw a lightning bolt pass through the door knob."You of all people should know that I've been through so much to let a threat get to me."The banging stopped, and I thought she just wanted to trick
Rowena******I flew into the air at the first attack Gwen threw at me; my magic wasn't working. I could hear sounds of Jaden getting mercilessly beaten, and I hit the ground."Focus, Ro. Channel your emotions." I whispered to myself and kept whispering, but it was like pouring water on stone.Fruitless! Was I hallucinating the last time?I stretched my hands and imagined myself levitating, still channeling my rage and the thousand emotions I was feeling; it worked perfectly in my head, but I was still firmly rooted to the ground.Great! I got into a fight with wizards without checking if my powers worked."You would have made it a lot easier for the both of us if you had just let him go." "Now take a look at him," Gwen laughed as she slowly lifted me in the air. For the first time since our fight started, I caught a glimpse of Jaden.Sprawled on the floorHalf-dead maybewith blood coming out everywhere.Gwen's twin sister is definitely a lot more twisted."I thought
Chapter 10Writer's povBack at the covenRafael paced back and forth in his chambers, clutching his pocket dagger tightly, showing how irritated he was getting. Gwendoline and Georgia were supposed to be back with great news long before now, but they were both nowhere to be seen. Not even a sign of Prince Jaden, at least.Rafael was obviously running out of patience, and it was evident in his facial expression as beads of sweat ran freely from his forehead down to his slightly pointed nose."The Queen demands your presence immediately, sir Rafael."With a wave of his hand, Rafael dismissed the guard that had come to deliver the message to him. "Why does she want to see me?" he thought. "Gwen has probably messed things up again."He dabbed his face with a towel and made sure he looked as relaxed as possible. If by chance the Queen found out about his plan to kill the prince, he was ready to deny every bit of it.One more glance at the mirror and he was sure he was good to go, then he h
Rowena's povWhen they were done running around, we finally sat down to eat.As we ate, I watched Jaden play with his food. I couldn't blame him because if I were him, I would definitely have a lot of things to ask.Giselle nudged my side with her elbow when she noticed I was staring too much, and I immediately returned my gaze to my food."Are you sure we shouldn't take her to a hospital?" He asked Giselle, like I was not sitting right there.Giselle dropped her fork and violently rolled her eyes at him."Of course we should take her to the hospital and tell them that she got the burns from a bridge hanging over naked flames in the wizard kingdom." She replied dramatically."How do you think that sounds?" She added, and he slowly returned to his food like a kid scolded by his mother."Giselle, calm down," I whispered, and she sneered."But it'll be too painful to let it heal on its own," he stated again.I raised a brow at him, hoping it'd make him shut up and stop triggering Giselle
Jaden's povWhen I was done wallowing in the awe of my new-found abilities, my senses returned, and I bolted. It was impossible to run when I got to the hallway; the place was crowded with people dressed in plaid attire like they were from ancient England. It was a good thing no one knew what I looked like because it made it easy for me to glide through the crowd.I was sweating profusely, my hair was damp, and my underarms felt terrible. I wondered carefully for hours, trying to find an escape route, but for some reason I ended up going back to the place I started from. The prison."Let's go see how our young prince is doing."I heard that awful, familiar voice giggle, and that was when I cornered into a room. I had to find a means of escape, and fast, because it was obviously a matter of minutes before they found out.Immediately, I noticed a bright, blinding light from behind me and shielded my eyes as I turned to look at it.A door had opened, and my heart raced so fast I could hea
Chapter 24Rowena's povGiselle stared at me like I spoke a completely different language. I knew I was about to be a fool for love again, but I couldn't help it; after all, I am cursed."What did you just say?" She blinked."I'll do it," I repeated. I immediately began to walk to the room so I could grab my coat, and she followed me quickly."Let's say you do manage to cross this bridge and get to the other side. How do you expect to rescue him? Do you think you will be in the kind of state to fight wizards?" She yelled, and a realisation hit me.I was so fired up by the fact that the man I was in love with was in danger that I didn't think anything through."Get your shit together, Ro," she added, and I watched her fingers run through her dense hair."So I should just let him get killed?" I asked, and my voice sounded a lot less fierce than I expected it to be. I knew I was scared.Terribly scared."The only sensible thing you've said this evening," she replied. She watched me while
Wizard Kingdom*Writer's pov"Arrrghhh! How could you do this to me, Maximon?"Jaden shrieked in anguish as Maximon, or, should one say, Rafar, tortured him beyond human imagination.Of course, what more was expected of a man who feeds off the cries of pain from whoever falls prey to his deadly trap? The Queen stood graciously at the end of the large room with Gwen and her sister, both of whom didn't enjoy being part of whatever little game they were playing with the prince."Why not just kill him right away and get this done with?" Gwen murmured and looked around to make sure no one heard her.The Queen smiled mischievously as she watched her right-hand man turn the prince into a pauper begging for his life.Rafar walked to Jaden with metal pliers in his hands. Jaden knew the worst was about to happen, and he started to struggle in his chains, but it was fruitless."You will pay dearly for this maxim!" Jaden cried."Rafar, little prince, the name's Rafar. And I do not have any time f
Human world*Rowena's povGiselle and I sat at a table in a popular local bar down the street, and while Giselle kept sipping from her tumbler of beer, I was lost in my thoughts of where exactly Jaden could have gone."It's been hours since he went missing; don't you think it's time we involved the cops?"She stared at me for a while, swallowed the beer she was storing in her mouth for reasons best known to her, and dropped the tumbler."And tell them what?A grown man left the house last night after a little argument, and now we can't find him anywhere, and worse still, his number isn't connecting?" She replied dramatically."You call what happened last night a 'little argument'? You were about to kiss your younger sister's lover, and you call that a 'little argument'!"I was fuming, and flashes of what I saw last night kept replaying in my head as I fought with the urge to pull her hair off of her scalp."Well, if that's how you see it, then it's clearly not my fault that your so-c
Chapter 21Jaden's povAs we drank I told him everything, my undying love to Giselle and the way she rejected me after I kissed her."Who is this Giselle anyways" he asked, taking a sip from the beer in his tumbler."A guardian, you said you know they exist. She's one of them, her sister too. They've been helping me escape the evil twins" I rattled. He smiled at an almost drunk me, nodded slowly before muttering the words, "guardians, I see".I ignored the look in his eyes as I blurted out literally everything I knew about Giselle and Rowena and how they've been the ones helping me from those twins..."Yesterday, while Giselle and I went to get my stuff from my house, she even told me that something more dangerous than those twins was coming and that I wouldn't be able to withstand it if I'm not careful....""Mmhmm... That so?" He interrupted taking another sip from his wine glass."Uhhm, I probably should get going now. I know they'll be worried sick about my whereabouts and I don't
Rowena's pov.....I was still on the floor when a knock came on the door. I wasn't ready to let anyone in, but Giselle kept threatening not to stop until I let her in.I cleaned up the already-dry tears that were on my face and dusted my dress before going to open the door."What exactly do you want to do?"I asked and returned to the position I was in before she knocked."Listen, Ro, and trust me when I say that there's nothing going on between both of us... I mean, he's a human, for crying out loud!"I can't possibly put my position as a guardian on the line for a human who'll fall in love with someone else someday.""So you're admitting that he's in love with you?"I asked again, still facing the floor and drawing indefinite shapes with my fingers on the tiled floor."Yes, he is, but that doesn't mean anything to me." He'll learn to accept the fact that I can't be with him, not now, not ever."Trust me, sis," she assured."Ro, we've been over this before, and I made it clear to yo
Writer's pov"The queen orders that you let the twins go," a guard announced, interrupting his torture plan."What, why all of a sudden?" He fumed as he took loud breaths. The guard only shrugged, bowed, and excused himself; Rafar fumed and headed straight for the human world, where he'll commence his prince hunting.Rafael hovered around Jaden's empty house for a while before settling on the gigantic sofa in the living room."Already living the life of a prince even before being crowned as one...""Well, it's best not to lose on both ends of the two worlds anyway."He caressed the large framed portrait of Jaden that hung on the wall a few meters away from where he sat before.Several thoughts of possible ways to capture and kill him kept crossing his mind, and suddenly he stopped moving and a menacing smile crept onto the corner of his lips."What if I don't really have to attack him all of a sudden?" He asked no one in particular as he continued caressing the picture."Such a lonely
Writer's povSaturday morning, and everywhere seemed more quiet than usual. Rowena strolled into the bathroom and had a warm and long bath before slipping into her work dress and strolling downstairs.Jaden was still asleep, and Ro couldn't help but admire how princely he looked. His sweaty face shone under the chandelier light that swayed a few feet above his head."If only you could love me the way you've always done...."She sighed and went to make breakfast for the three of them.Giselle joined her a few minutes later, and before long, Jaden too.The rest of the morning was uneventful, at least for Giselle and Jaden...........At work, Rowena couldn't concentrate on anything at all, in part because Giselle and Jaden went over to his place to get his stuff since he would be spending a long time at their house. The thought of leaving both of them to spend time together was disturbing, and Rowena kept making mistakes and mixing up people's orders."Hey, baby, are you ok?"Peter as
