I opened the doors to the Cold Palace. Ah, this place sure lives up to its name. But I believe I can live here peacefully.
“Yukina, are you sure about this.” Aino was concerned about me, about my well-being in this place. I assured her that I was going to be fine.
“Now Aino, let’s make this place a little more enjoyable.” We set up some candles and cleaned up a little bit. It seemed that this place was not taken care of throughout the years. Suddenly, the door flew open.
“Yukina nee-chan, are you alright? I heard what happened. They will surely pay for this.” Lady Tori busted through the door and hugged me. I felt relieved.
“I’m fine Tori-chan. You don’t have to worry about me. I’m strong, remember?” She looked up at me and I gave her the biggest smile.
“B-but, you’ll be staying here. It’s cold here. You might get sick.” I patted her head and assured her.
“Don’t worry about me. I’m more worried about you. Please take care of yourself.” Before she could answer, the Empress dowager appeared by the doorway.
“Lady Tori, you are not permitted to visit Yukina. Please leave immediately.” Before Tori had a chance to answer, I gave her one last hug and I whispered “Be careful”. She left with the Empress dowager and Aino and I were once again left alone in the Cold Palace.
“Would you like me to fetch you something to eat Yukina?” I nodded and she left the room. A few minutes went by and she returned looking rather pale and she was covering her right cheek.
“What happened to you?” I grabbed her arm and there was a handprint on her cheek. How dare they?
“Who did this to you?” I was fuming. It was bad enough that they didn’t respect me but they shouldn’t have gotten Aino involved. I grabbed her and led her to the kitchen. One of the old lady servants was talking shit about me.
“Who dare lay a finger on my personal maid?!” The two old lady servants gossiping quickly stopped and looked at me.
“I’m sorry your majesty but the rules clearly state that those who are in the Cold Palace are not to be given food unless sta---.” I slapped her.
“I am still the Empress regardless of where I stay. And how dare you mistreat my maid like that. If you have a problem with me, say it to my face instead of taking it out on Aino.” The two of them quickly scurried off. I turned to Aino and examined her face.
“Are you sure you’re okay? I’m sorry you had to experience that.” Aino shook her head.
“It’s okay Yukina. Now, shall we get some food?” I nodded and she prepared some food. We took it back to the Cold Palace.

After the incident with Yukina, I can’t help but notice that she has become much more fierce and aggressive after her drowning accident.
“Is she still at the Cold Palace?” I asked one of my servants.
“Yes your majesty. I believe she is not planning on leaving the Cold Palace.” She’s very determined now. I wonder what happened to her.
“Keep a close eye on her” The servant bowed and left the room.

(Late at night)
*Stomach growling*
Damn I’m hungry. Stupid rules, stupid Emperor. Hmmm maybe I can sneak to the pantry and grab something to eat. Hah! This’ll be like training. Also I wonder how secure the palace security is. But I can’t go out wearing this fancy kimono. I might just change into this night gown.
I snuck out of the Cold Palace. There are guards stationed by the wall every 100 meters or so. Moving fast, I was able to sneak my way around the guards. This is way too easy.
I arrived at the kitchen doors but it was locked. I grabbed a hairpin from my hair and proceeded to pick the lock. *click* Holy crap that was easy. These locks are so easy to break into.
There were bread and cheese and all sorts of snacks in here. Yum! I can finally eat something. I started grabbing some bread and some cheese.
“What are you doing?” I suddenly stopped dead in my tracks. Did someone find me? Impossible! The guards have no idea I even left the Cold Palace. I turned around and saw a little boy looking up at me with his big blue eyes.
“What are you doing here?” Should I kill this kid? Leave no witnesses; those were the rules.
*Stomach growling* this time, it wasn’t my stomach. The kid looked flushed.
“Are you hungry? Is that why you snuck out at this late hour?” He shyly nodded. I giggled.
“Where are your mom and dad?” Suddenly, the kid looked sad.
“I’ve never met my mom. My dad wouldn’t allow me to see her here and she hasn’t visited me. Is it because I’m a bad kid? My friends all have mothers and fathers but why don’t I have a mother? No one takes care of me when I’m sick.” He looked like he was about to cry. I had the strongest urge to hug him.
“There, there. You don’t need to cry. What’s your name?” He wiped his tears away and looked at me.
“My name is Yukio. What’s your name?” I cupped his face and gave him a warm smile.
“We almost have the same name. My name is Yukina. Don’t cry anymore okay? If you don’t have a mom, then I’ll be there to cook for you and take care of you when you’re sick. Is that okay?” His face lit up like the night sky
“Can I call you mama?” His expectant eyes met my gaze. I can’t say no to that face
“Of course you can. Well, are you hungry? Let’s eat.” He hugged me so tight I could hardly breathe.
As I grabbed the bread, I noticed there were peanuts nearby. I thought I would make some peanut butter. Kids like peanut butter, don’t they?
“Hey Yukio, have you tried peanut butter before?” He looked at me with a confused look.
“I’ve never heard of that before.” I smiled and grabbed a bunch of peanuts. We went into the kitchen and I ground them up along with some oil. After I mushed it up into a paste, I spread some on a piece of bread and I gave it to Yukio. He took it from my hand and began eating it.
“Hmmmm it’s so good mama. I’ve never tried this before.” We continued to eat until Yukio was full.
“That was delicious. You’re a very good cook mama.” This kid. Something feels right whenever he calls me mama.

It’s well past midnight yet I’m still in my study. I should probably finish up and head to bed.
One of my servants suddenly busted through the door.
“Your majesty… the prince… is gone…”
“WHAT? How is that possible?! Secure all the exits. Find him.” I hurried out of the study and went to Yukio’s room. No sign of him. All the guards were frantically searching the hall Palace. Where are you my son?
[The Empress’ View]
As I was cleaning up, I heard the guards frantically running outside.
“Over here, the kitchen lock has been tampered with. Someone must be inside.” One of the guards must have found the picked lock. We have to get out of here.
“Yukio, let’s go.” I carried Yukio and went out through the back door. I ran as fast as I could and I ended up by the garden. Oh no, open spaces. There’s nowhere to hide. I felt as though Yukio wasn’t moving. He must’ve fallen asleep.
“You! Who are you? What are you doing with my son?!” That voice sounds like… the Emperor. Wait a minute… Son? Is Yukio… my son? I have no other choice. I have to leave Yukio here. I put Yukio down gently. He was still able to stand on his own. As soon as I let go of him, I immediately jumped over the Gazebo and over the wall.
“Yukio? Are you alright? Yukio? Quick! Someone call the palace doctor.” Doctor? Oh no, my son…
Yukio was back in his room. I have to know what happened. The whole room was heavily guarded but I was able to sneak behind the room and listened to the conversation.“It appears he’s been poisoned your majesty. He must’ve eaten some peanuts.”
“Empress Yukina… Come with us… Come Empress…”I saw a figure holding my hand but I can’t seem to make out their face. I wanted to ask who they were but I couldn’t speak.
After we had lunch, we headed back to the Emperor’s palace. The carriage ride was silent. Yukio fell asleep in my arms.I wanted to talk to him but I feel like we have nothing to talk about. I want to ask him about my accident but I feel like he’s going to be s
[The Emperor’s View]Yukina looked weak and frail. She’s standing in the middle of the courtyard, blood dripping from her mouth and hand.
It has been a week and I was asked to prepare for our trip to the Capital. Nothing has happened over the past week and I assumed that because Tsuya was gone, the problems would be gone too. Oh how wrong I was.
Sunlight filtered through the window and I felt its warmth. I woke up to a handsome face beside me. The events of last night were more than I can handle. I caressed his face and his eyelashes fluttered as he opened his eyes.“Good morning.” I smiled. His arms w
A week later, Tori kept sending wisteria tea to my room. Tch, she must really want me dead. But what for? I thought she was the closest to the Empress out of all the other concubines.
[The Emperor’s View]“Your majesty, her majesty is in the garden with Sir Chojiro.” Akiko reported. I suddenly felt angry.
“Miss, here are the papers that need your signature for the finalization of the Spring Collection that will be featured in our fashion show.” My assistant came into my office and handed me a stack of papers. My name is Nagatsuka Akina, I’m the Founder and CEO of Hanazu Couture. Although my company hasn’t been around for as long as the other famous brands out there, we’ve become a household name in the fashion industry. I’ve worked tirelessly for the last 15 years to make this company what it is today.“Miss, I’ve received a call from...your father.” My assistant reluctantly told me. I had instructed her before that any business with regards to my family, I will not accept. I’ve told her that if anyone called saying they were my immediate family, disregard what they say and blacklist their number so they won’t be able to call again. She
I walked towards the shadow guard who called for me. When I was finally in front of him, he slowly lowered his mask, revealing his face. This was considered taboo for a shadow guard. No one, not even their master should see their faces. That was the only secret they were allowed to keep from their masters. I was surprised when he pulled down his mask."What are you doing?" I asked him frantically. I didn't want him to get into trouble. He shook his head and sat down on the windowsill. He was calm and it didn't seem like he was going to cause trouble. I relaxed my shoulders a bit and I took a step back from him."Why did you do that?" I asked. He was looking down on the floor when I asked that question. He turned his head towards me and shrugged."All this time, I believed that the master that I was serving was a good person. I knew of his story yet I couldn't understand the decision he made." He answered. I wasn't able to recall any memories fr

We arrived at the Imperial Palace and all of the guards weren't present outside. This was really unusual since guards were supposed to be stationed all over the Palace to ensure the safety of his Majesty. Whatever is happening must be big for all of these changes to happen. Prince Shiro held my hand as we ran towards the audience chamber of the Palace. There were guards sprawled all over the place, thankfully there was no blood which means the guards are only unconscious and not dead. When we arrived at the audience chamber, I was shocked to see the chancellor, on his knees in front of the Emperor. Imperial guards and Shadow guards were scattered all over the whole room, all of them were unconscious. "Father!" I instinctively called out.
"The Emperor knew of the Empress' schemes however he was unable to stop her. The fight for the throne was a battle that your mother shouldn't have been a part of yet she was killed because of it. The Chancellor was blinded by his grief and anger over the loss of your mother. Ever since then, in his heart, he blamed the Emperor for the death of his wife." The shadow guard finished his story. I couldn't believe what I heard. How could something like this happen to Himawari's family? Is this the price the chancellor had to pay by being so close to the Imperial Family? "But it wasn't because the Emperor didn't do anything for the Chancellor, he was unable to do anything for fear of the people's reaction towards the Imperial Family. He had to keep everything in secret and so the crimes of the Empress were never investigated and she was never found guilty for all the people she killed and all the crimes she committed. Until recently, when you exposed her crimes for the whole

I didn't know how long I was trapped in my room but it felt like forever. The shadow guards would put water and food down by my door during meal time. I tried talking to them but they were silent as usual. The maids never came around to my room either. Even Mei, who would usually be with me, never came to visit. Did father do something to her? DId she leave or is she just following my father's orders? Either way, I really have to get out of here. All my windows had shadow guards under them. I couldn't even try to escape through them. There was no other way for me to contact the outside world. I was locked up and trapped inside my room. It's been a few days and maybe Prince Shiro will figure something out. Unless my father talked to him about my whereabouts, he would surely try to look for me. "Hima..." I heard father's voice on the other side of the door. I walked closer hoping to hear what he had to say. "I hope you're not putting your fait
I was in front of the door to my father's office. My heart was pounding in my chest and I was unsure of whether or not I should confront him directly or investigate further before I jump to conclusions. I trust my father but it was just too suspicious of him to be in contact with the First Prince all this time. My gut is telling me that I should get to the bottom of it. After all, I know he wouldn't hurt me. If he really wanted to hurt me, he could've done so long ago. I took a deep breath before I knocked on my father's door. I slid it open when I heard his voice calling for me. He was standing by his desk, a cup of tea in his hand. He was looking out the window when I came in. He turned his head towards me and smiled. When I saw my father like that, I felt guilty for concluding that he was a bad guy when I haven't even heard of his side yet. Maybe it was all just my own misunderstanding. "You called for me, father?" I asked. He nodded and pointed towards the
I had to know more. I had to be sure that my father was innocent and that he wasn't involved in any way. There was an unsettling feeling in the pit of my stomach and I didn't like it. I didn't know how to go about with my day knowing that my father could be an accomplice. But I couldn't understand anything. If it was true, why would he do that? Why would he work with the first prince to kill the Emperor? If I was right that the First Prince was the one behind the assassination attempt on me and Prince Shiro, that wouldn't make any sense. He's my father, he wouldn't do anything to hurt me. "Miss? Are you still awake?" Mei knocked on my door. I quickly composed myself as to not seem too suspicious. I told her that I was still awake and she slowly opened the door and peeked her head through. "The master is calling for you." She said. I felt my heart drop to my stomach. This is such a coincidence. My father calling me right when I was being suspicious of him.
