“No, she’s tight-lipped. Don’t worry, the guards will take care of it and I know that the Empress has probably been informed of what happened. While they investigate this matter, I’ll have to go back and recreate the medicine that was tampered with. If I hurry now, it’ll only take me half a day to remake them.”

I told Prince Shiro. He nodded and escorted me to the lab. He promised that he would keep guard outside of the lab while I worked. I felt secured when he said that. I immediately went straight to work on remaking the medicine.

It annoyed me that the woman who tampered with the vials knew exactly which ones were the medicine that I was focused on. It made me think that there could be a rat somewhere near me. If there was, it would have to be someone who had access to the lab and would have been around while I made the medicine. I could think of a handful of people who fit that criteria. A proper investigation needs to happen so that we can find out if there are more rats hiding in the shadows. “I’ve brought you some food, Hima. You should eat first. You’ve been working really hard for the past 4 hours now.” Prince Shiro walked into the lab carrying a tray of food. I wasn’t in the mood to eat yet since I’ve been really focused on the recreation of the medicine however, I knew I need

“I’ll eat after I finish this vial.” I told Prince Shiro. I thought he was just going to leave the tray on the table and he’ll go back outside to keep guard but I was surprised when he held a spoon to my face. I looked up at him with a confused look on my face. “What are you doing?” I asked him. He smiled and pointed the spoon to my mouth. “You’re too busy to feed yourself so I might as well help you. I don’t know much about medicine but I certainly am able to feed you.” He said. I was shocked to see the Prince being as lively as he is now. It was certainly a sight for sore eyes. I really couldn’t argue with his logic so feeling defeated, I gave him permissio

When the sun had set, I was already on my 4th vial. At this rate, I’ll be finished by midnight so tomorrow at the latest, I can administer the antibiotics to the patients and they can start feeling better. My determination was revived and I did my best to complete all of the medicine. The ones I’ve been making are quite potent yet effective, 1 vial is enough for at least 6 people. 7 if there were children. “Excuse me, Lady Himawari. The Empress has called for your presence.” One of the guards called up to me as I was finishing my 6th vial.

I only needed a few more to complete them but I really needed to meet with the Empress. I have to tell her about my speculations on the sabotage that happened this morning. I was reluctant to leave the tent because of what happened. It was a good thing that Prince Shiro volunteered to stay and guard the lab while I was gone. I felt relieved knowing it would be him watching over the medicine. I quickly made my way to the Empress. We had set up a tent that’s far from the infection site but was close to the lab. I know the Empress would often come and check on the progress so I had the guards and other doctors prepare it.

  • Reborn Series   The Lady of Miracles: Disinfection

It needs to be disinfected every hour or so to keep it safe for the Royal family. The last thing I want is for any member of the royal family to get infected with the plague. That could really be bad for all of us. I walked into the tent and I saw that the Empress was waiting for me. Since I came from the lab where there’s a possibility that I could be carrying the bacteria for the plague, I disinfected myself before I came close to the Empress. The disnifection process was relatively quick since I taught the doctors how to properly disinfect each other while working near the infection site. Plus Empress Yukina has made a lot of modern tools available here so it wasn't a problem for me.

“Lady Hima, I heard of what happened.” She said to me. I nodded and sat down on the chair in front of her. I explained to her what happened this morning and what the captured woman told me when I went to the jail cell to interrogate her. The Empress listened intently to my testimony and she would also ask questions to verify my story. This is one of the things I admired about Empress Yukina. Even if you were a commoner or a noble, she would always remain neutral while talking to all the people involved. This made me even more comfortable telling her what had transpired.

“I see… Then I shall have a talk with the perpetrator as well to hear what she has to say.” Empress Yukina answered. I nodded and told her that it was fine with me. I really had nothing to hide since I didn’t do anything wrong. The Empress also asked me about the progress of the cure. I sighed and admitted that what happened this morning seriously took my plan a step away from me. It caused a minor hiccup that could’ve turned into something big if I didn't catch that woman. The stress from what happened caused me to have a minor mental breakdown. I can't believed I cried so much this morning. Now that I think about it, I kinda feel embrassed letting Prince Shiro see me like that.

“Tomorrow morning, I will finally be able to administer the antibiotics and the citizens will start to feel better almost immediately.” I told the Empress. She smiled at me and told me to do my best. She thanked me again but I told her it wasn’t necessary. I loved what I was doing and it gave me the feeling I used to have when I was a doctor back on earth. Although the situations I used to handle were different, the main thing is that I save lives. After experiencing so much from when I first arrived here, I feel like I've finally become one with this world. Even though I originally didn't belong here, now I finally found my place.

We arrived at the Imperial Palace and all of the guards weren't present outside. This was really unusual since guards were supposed to be stationed all over the Palace to ensure the safety of his Majesty. Whatever is happening must be big for all of these changes to happen. Prince Shiro held my hand as we ran towards the audience chamber of the Palace. There were guards sprawled all over the place, thankfully there was no blood which means the guards are only unconscious and not dead. When we arrived at the audience chamber, I was shocked to see the chancellor, on his knees in front of the Emperor. Imperial guards and Shadow guards were scattered all over the whole room, all of them were unconscious. "Father!" I instinctively called out.

I couldn't believe what I heard. How could something like this happen to Himawari's family? Is this the price the chancellor had to pay by being so close to the Imperial Family? "But it wasn't because the Emperor didn't do anything for the Chancellor, he was unable to do anything for fear of the people's reaction towards the Imperial Family. He had to keep everything in secret and so the crimes of the Empress were never investigated and she was never found guilty for all the people she killed and all the crimes she committed. I didn't know how long I was trapped in my room but it felt like forever. The shadow guards would put water and food down by my door during meal time. I tried talking to them but they were silent as usual. The maids never came around to my room either. Even Mei, who would usually be with me, never came to visit. Did father do something to her? DId she leave or is she just following my father's orders? Either way, I really have to get out of here. All my windows had shadow guards under them. I couldn't even try to escape through them. There was no other way for me to contact the outside world. I was locked up and trapped inside my room. It's been a few days and maybe Prince Shiro will figure something out. Unless my father talked to him about my whereabouts, he would surely try to look for me. "Hima..." I heard father's voice on the other side of the door. I was in front of the door to my father's office. My heart was pounding in my chest and I was unsure of whether or not I should confront him directly or investigate further before I jump to conclusions. I trust my father but it was just too suspicious of him to be in contact with the First Prince all this time. My gut is telling me that I should get to the bottom of it. After all, I know he wouldn't hurt me. If he really wanted to hurt me, he could've done so long ago. I took a deep breath before I knocked on my father's door. I slid it open when I heard his voice calling for me. He was standing by his desk, a cup of tea in his hand. He was looking out the window when I came in. He turned his head towards me and smiled. When I saw my father like that, I felt guilty for concluding that he was a bad guy when I haven't even heard of his side yet. Maybe it was all just my own misunderstanding. I had to know more. I had to be sure that my father was innocent and that he wasn't involved in any way. There was an unsettling feeling in the pit of my stomach and I didn't like it. I didn't know how to go about with my day knowing that my father could be an accomplice. But I couldn't understand anything. If it was true, why would he do that? Why would he work with the first prince to kill the Emperor? If I was right that the First Prince was the one behind the assassination attempt on me and Prince Shiro, that wouldn't make any sense. He's my father, he wouldn't do anything to hurt me. "Miss? Are you still awake?" Mei knocked on my door. I quickly composed myself as to not seem too suspicious. I told her that I was still awake and she slowly opened the door and peeked her head through. "The master is calling for you." She said. I felt my heart drop to my stomach. This is such a coincidence. My father calling me right when I was being suspicious of him.
