Imaginary bags packed, goodbyes said, Elena started to Shiver. It was now Dec 29th and she sat in her apartment alone. The sound from the ticking clock was as loud as ever. She hadn’t had any sleep in two days. She had tried but failed.
Now alone, reality set in. one feeling kept hovering at the back of her mind. It was a feeling she was refusing to acknowledge.
Fear!
Elena was afraid of the unknown, of the future. Or the past even. Which she was about to journey to.
So many questions plagued her mind. What if he didn’t love her? What if she couldn’t stop his death? How would she survive alone? How would her life be different? Without any siblings or family? Who was she going to be? What if she got lost in-between time?
She had asked so many questions that her head ached. It also didn’t help that the only person she could share this with had g
Elena’s eyes were closed. But she wasn’t asleep. She wasn't dreaming or in a trance either. She was awake and conscious but just had some difficulty opening her eyes. Her eyelids were heavy. Her body was heavy. Even from her position as she lay on the bed, she knew she was no longer in her own body. This felt different. Different from her previous ESCAPE. As she lay down, she felt in full possession of the body. No memories existed for her to access. Nothing. It was bland. The brain was bland. She tried to make a sort of connection but couldn’t. Still, Elena couldn’t open her eyes. For a while, she just lay there, not moving. Then she heard voices. And she heard an accent. Not the Canadian or North American accent she was used to. But a distinct and sharp Australian accent. Then she froze. Her heart started to beat really
Eighteen The week went by very fast. Elena was taken to the hospital for her tests. And after several tests, she was declared to have “retrograde amnesia”. The doctor said she may not recollect the previous events in her life. Chances of recovering were slim. So she went back with her parents. She knew at the back of her mind that the diagnosis was wrong. The real diagnosis was that the previous Elena, whose car ran into a ditch had died. Both physically and brain-wise. So another Elena, all the way from the future had taken over the body. But who would believe that? In the rest of the week, Elena learned as much as she could about her current life. Her parents and friends. She hadn’t seen any friends yet, they didn’t want to fill her head with too much information. It finally got to a point where Elena was tired. Of being treated like a patient. She had experienced that in her previous lif
By the time Vanessa came up to Elena’s room, Elena had already gotten into her dress. She was struggling with the zipper at the back of the dress when Vanessa came in. “hey, I’ll help you with that.” Vanessa offered. Elena smiled and turned her back to Vanessa. Vanessa helped her with it. Then Elena turned to face her. Vanessa drew Elena in for a tight hug. “oh, Elena. It's so glad to have you back. oh my. I thought I would never see you alive again. You scared the shit out of us all.” Vanessa supplied. “I’m so sorry Nessa.” Elena squeezed in deeper. She didn’t even notice how easy it was for her to call Vanessa, Nessa. Somehow, even though the previous Elena (who initially owned that body) no longer existed and her memories were gone, her brain still retained some spark from the sight of pleasant people or places. Elena could still feel those things. She had first noti
Cameroon came into the restaurant on that particular night with his brother and brother’s girlfriend. They had decided to have a proper meal together before Cameroon’s trial which was six days away. Cameroon had picked the restaurant. He had never been there but had been drawn to it after seeing an interesting advert about the restaurant some days back. so he had made a mental note of it. And when his brother asked that they have dinner together, the restaurant had popped right into his head. He had been so tensed since his former roommate and friend, Fred Cooper died. And it didn’t help that he was now being charged with the murder. And was facing the possibility of spending the rest of his life in prison. For a crime, he did not commit. So when his brother, Austin had brought up the idea of them having dinner together, he had jumped at it. He welcomed anything that could take his mind off his pending trial. As they approached the yacht, Cameroon had
Cameroon sat at the passenger seat of his BMW. His brother, Austin was driving. Austin’s girlfriend was at the back of the vehicle. The car was dead silent. Austin was the first to speak. “maybe we should find somewhere else.” Austin looked into the mirror so he could catch his girlfriend’s eye. She noticed and looked up to him. “where are you thinking?” she asked. “anywhere I guess. It will be difficult to find a good place on such short notice. Do you think you could find something nice with your phone? Maybe check online?” “Sure babe.” She responded as she pulled out her phone. Cameroon finally spoke. “I don’t want to go anywhere. I just want to go home.” “Nope, buddy. We agreed. We’re spending tonight together.” “I am not hungry anymore.” Cameroon objected. “fine. Let’s go to a bar then. You aren’t spending tonight alone.” Austin stated with authority. “what are you now? Dad?
Dave and Susan had arrived at the hospital some minutes after the ambulance brought Elena in. Vanessa had called them about Elena’s fainting episode. They had rushed to the ER. Worried that something worse had happened. That the faint was connected to the coma she just came out of. Dave especially was upset. He blamed himself. He had felt uncomfortable when Elena stepped out with her friends, so he felt responsible for not insisting that she stay back. Susan had to remind him that Elena wasn’t a little girl anymore. That he couldn’t exactly make Elena stay home just because he said so. And she had felt that spending the night with her friends would help with her memories. Or at least help her get back on track. After they got to the hospital, the ER doctor had already checked on Elena and ran some tests. The doctor had told them that the faint was a random one and nothing in her brain seemed to have triggered it. She was probably tired. The do
After a long eventful night, Austin dropped Cameroon off at his house. Cameroon said goodbye and walked into his empty house. As he approached the stairs, he didn’t feel the emptiness that usually accompanied him whenever he came home. On this particular night, he felt at ease. Peaceful even. He walked into his house and fell on his couch immediately. He didn’t turn on his lights. He picked up his phone and dropped it back so many times. Like he had done since he left the hospital. He was waiting for her call. And it didn’t come. He gave himself a light smack on his head. How stupid he had been. How stupid. He should have taken her number instead. What was he thinking? Why did he ask her to call him? He smacked himself again. How stupid he had been. As he lay in the dark, he tried to remember where he had known her. And why he had been so drawn to her. He searched his head, he hadn’t even gotten her name. He felt stupid. Why did he fee
Cameroon’s trial was days away. And he was meeting with his lawyer on Monday morning. He had spent the previous day, waiting for the call that didn’t come. he was heartbroken. And for a guy who was probably going to spend his life in prison, his trial was the second thing on his mind. The first was her.

Dec 1st, 2013.In Sydney, Australia.Elena and Cameroon’s wedding day.It had been a long four months of wedding planning for Elena. Susan was going all out, helping her daughter plan the perfect wedding. The food, guest list, dresses, and all. But Susan wasn’t the only one, her friends too were helping. Every step of the way. All hands on deck. They had only four months to plan the perfect Billionaire wedding. But one thing everyone all agreed on from the start, was the location of the wedding. They were having it on Elena’s yacht. It had to be. It was the perfect location. Within that four months, Elena had gone house shopping with her soon-to-be husband, Cameroon and they had found the perfect home.It was a six-bedroom bi-level home. And Elena fell in love with it.It was the perfect fit. They had found out they were having triplets and so they needed a big home. The house was spread on a wide acre of Land. But some
Elena sat at the back seat of the Bentley. She had texted her friends to let them know she was on her way. And they confirmed that they were already there. waiting.
Sunny Friday afternoon- check.Cameras- check.Shopping bags- check.Five friends- check.Credit card- double-check.All items were checked as the five friends headed out on Friday to prepare for the dinner that was happening the next day. Carrie was the designated driver for the day. She picked everyone from their homes in her range rover. The friends had all screamed over the phone when Elena had told them the good news. She still felt weird that she was telling them before she told Cameroon but it already happened. Now they were all in Carrie’s car, riding to the first stop.Elena’s friends were all quick to jump on board. Just like Vanessa had been. And she noticed that too. They all seemed so eager.“So where’s our first stop?” Nicole asked as she entered the car. She was the last person to join them.“massages first, I already booked us an appointment at t
Elena leaned backward into her toilet seat and peed on the stick. She closed her eyes and waited. Counted even. And it turned out again with the positive sign. She had peed on six different sticks already. This was the seventh stick. And it was also positive.Jeez, she swirled around. She laughed, she cried. Nit painful tears but soft happy tears. She was pregnant. With Cameroon’s child. She was engulfed with a feeling of great pleasure and happiness. She wanted to run out to tell him but she was at her own apartment. Elena picked up the phone to call him and stopped herself. No, this wasn’t something she was going to tell him over the phone. She was going to tell him in person.Without a doubt, Elena knew that Cameroon was going to be excited about the news. Just as she was. Her parents were going to be excited too. And her friends! Oh her friends will be too. She placed her hands over her stomach. Straining to see if she could feel the ba
It had been three months since Elena broke things off with Jake. She hadn’t heard from him the whole time. But her friend, Nina had come to her. Nina had taken her to lunch on a sunny Monday afternoon. The meeting wasn’t planned, especially since the girls had gotten together for their usual weekly hangouts. But Elena hadn’t thought much about it. When she received Nina’s text. She simply nodded and drove to the location Nina had asked them to meet.By the time she arrived, Nina was already there. Under a square umbrella. Nina. Nina stood up and waved immediately she caught sight of Elena. And Elena walked to her table.“this early lunch is on you by the way.” Elena joked as she approached her friend.“hahaha. No Probs, Elena. It is nice to see you.”Elena pulled out a chair and sat in it. “it is nice to see you too, even though I saw you two nights ago.” She
Jake was in his home, alone in his thoughts. He had been binging on some movies the night before. It was a Friday night and he had wanted to talk to her. He had picked up his phone so many times but ended up putting it back down.He wanted her to come to him. He wanted her to choose him.And it was beginning to take forever. That made him sad. So he had sat in front of his TV, blocking everything out, and watched several shows till he fell asleep. He woke up the next morning, on his couch. He checked his phone first, no call had come in for him. Then he made his way to the bathroom. Before reaching the bathroom, his doorbell rang. His heartbeat surged. He guessed who it could be. He wasn’t expecting anyone and hadn’t made any orders. But he flung open the door. And there she was, Elena. He grinned. “come on in.” She accepted the invitation and stepped in. The smell of her perfume surrounded him as she came in. She clutched her bag li
The wine Cameroon had come with had a rich taste. Just like she had expected it to. It was a fourteen-year-old bottle made from one of the best wine yards in France.Elena poured herself another glass. Still silent. Her candle still burning. She started to play with his nipples. And Cameroon Jerked. He swallowed again.“Babe,” he whispered.“yes.”“I want to get to know you.”“This is you knowing me.” She teased. He could see the laughter in her eyes. She got up from the couch, set her glass on her desk, and stood in front of him.He looked up at her.She started to unbutton her shirt. She paused at the first button. And teased him some more with her eyes.Slowly, she opened one button after the other. Till she got to the end and then she slipped off the shirt. Her shirt fell to the ground. And spread. She took her hands to her back and unclasped her br
Friday arrived. It was a date night for Elena and Cameroon. And the perfect night. The night was slightly chilly. And the wind was stronger than usual.Elena had spent most of her day in the office. Preoccupied with work. She had caught up on almost all the backlogs and was the only person still in the office. The last person to leave checked out an hour ago. Even the cleaning service had finished up for the day.But not Elena. She was still working. Elena wasn’t exactly a workaholic, but on this day, she simply wanted to pour out herself till she was empty. She had started out the day with a lot of backlogs. That was one of the reasons. And the other reason? She was distracting herself. From thinking about him. Not him, Cameroon. But him, Jake. She had tried so hard to sleep the previous night. But had ended up staying late till 4.00 am and she was up again at 7.00 am.She couldn’t stop her brai
