The moment I alighted from the plane, at the airport, and drove down to the Wolf call pack with Brandon, uneasiness filled my being.

I remembered what Gaius had said when I told him about the challenge. "You have to save her, but don't get killed. Your mate would rather die, in your place." And then, he held my hands for minutes after that with complete solemnity.

The council hadn't agreed to the challenge, especially Cassius. "Why endanger yourself for a woman?" He had said. None of them believed that we were true mates.

Oddly enough, the only one who had agreed, was Mateo.

I knew I was taking a big risk, but I had no choice. I had to get Amber back today or never.
