I cleared my throat awkwardly when Jake said this. I tried to pretend as if I did not know the meaning of what he said but I knew why he said this.

It was because he was in love with me. I had always known about Jake's feelings for me. It was never a secret. It was just that I didn't feel the same way towards him. He was a good friend of mine, that was as far as I was willing to go with the relationship I had with him. I did not want to go even further.

I felt that Jake had accepted that we could not be together since I was already with Liam but perhaps hearing that I was no longer with him made him feel a renewed hope.

I sighed, deciding that it would be best for me to let him know that I was already married. I did not want him to think that he still had a chance with me. That would just be cruel to him.
