“How dare you, Anny?” Dad’s words came with a resounding slap that landed me right on the floor. The train of my dress was now tangled with my toes and I was struggling to free my leg from the cluster of the dress.
My gaze went up instantly as I heard a familiar voice that held so much mockery, “Dad, she’s a total shame to this family,” Zoe was standing right in front saying what I couldn’t understand. She should be ashamed and not me, what was she saying then?
With all the strength I could garner, I tried standing so I could ask what was going on, but another slap from my father glued me to the ground. “Why are you standing, you criminal?”
Second painful slap in a few minutes without the knowledge of what I had done. “Dad, you can’t keep slapping me, what have I done?” I found myself asking amidst sobs.
“Why are you pretending Anny? I’ve already informed everyone of your shameless acts. How you have been sleeping around with different male members of the park, including how you were caught by my mother who threatened to expose your deeds,” Zoe scoffed.
Who caught who? I was in such a big dilemma and my mouth was opened without a speech. The weight of what she was saying was so heavy, that I was struggling to bear it.
“You have hated my mother because of your secret, and even when she promised to keep your secret, you still derive pleasure from hating her. Just because you are damn jealous of her and because I have a mum while you don’t…” she was cut off by May who covered her mouth.
“You should not say things like that to her, Zee, she’ll be hurt,” May said as if she cared about how I was feeling and not only wanted to be seen as the ‘caring stepmother.’.
Murmurs and fingers were pointing towards me. These people had respected me in numerous ways, but now they were doubting if I was worth all the respect. I wasn’t ready to lose all that for some baseless lies.
“Dad, I haven’t been sleeping around. Why do you believe her when you’ve not heard my part of the story?” there was agony in my voice. I wanted him to know I would never bring him shame, he was all I had left.
He promised Alex not to be abusive, this made Alex release him from his grip. He had been holding him to prevent him from slapping me. He came closer and with his gaze fixed on me, he asked in a calm but dangerous tone that sent fear to my being, “How about telling me why you poisoned May’s cup?”
I was shaking my head vehemently as I was too stunned to say the words hanging alongside the huge lump that I pushed down my throat. “Poison? I didn’t poison anyone, Dad!” how could he think so little of me?
More than the accusations, I was hurt by how my father was addressing the whole situation. “I didn’t do it, Dad, I didn’t!” I kept shouting trying to make my words sink into him and everyone looked at me like a plague.
“Annabel would never do such a thing! Poison me?” May’s voice came all over, and for once I was glad she had supported me.
“A maid had reported her poisoning your cup, Mum,” Zoe said. I looked at her over and knew she must have been part of this scheme or even the mastermind behind it since I had caught her and Alex.
“Zoe, don’t say that. She’s your sister, you should trust her and not a maid,” Did I just hear Alex correcting Zoe? I couldn’t believe my ears.
My father was now in his seat and looking into his eyes, I couldn’t read his emotion. He had always loved to keep his reputation clean; all of these meant one thing, I soiled that reputation.
“Anny, my last question is this, did you reject Alex when you are supposed to be joined together tomorrow?” How did my father learn about me rejecting Alex? My plan was to leave the park and leave him a letter secretly, but it was ruined.
I stuttered “Ye… yes Dad… I did, I rejected him cause he was cheating with Zoe, but I didn’t poison anyone” A loud murmur emanated from the crowd. I had denied two allegations and confirmed the last to be true, they could as well believe I was lying about the other two.
“Anny, there is an eye witness, just confess to poisoning my mother!” Zoe was fuming up and down and I was confused about the eyewitness she mentioned. Right amid of my confusion, a maid stepped forward.
“You? I… saw you earlier right?” I silently thanked the moon goddess for sending help my way. “Dad, she can testify I didn’t enter the kitchen,” I shifted my gaze to her.
I had leaned over the last step of the stairs trying to gain strength to help walk me to my room. I needed a shoulder to lean on, but I was all alone. No shoulder, no mate.
Gradually, I began to drag myself clumsily to my room. I wasn’t paying attention to my environment and there I had collided with a fleshy wall, except that it was made of human flesh. I had bumped into one of the maids.
Sorry, I muttered and didn’t wait to get a response, action, or inaction. I was not in the mood to act like the good and respectful girl they knew. But now, my fate was in her hands, her testimony would set me free and I was glad.
“Be free to speak the truth,” Alex’s hand was on the maid’s shoulder and I was glad he was urging her to say the truth. “I… I… saw her, she had added a substance to Luna May’s cup,” she finally shot me a stray bullet.
Everyone gasped and sent me gazes that burned my body and soul. Who and what was she scared of to say such a thing? I didn’t get it.
“Anny, I believe you are innocent. But, as much as I do,” she pointed to the people standing “these people need to be convinced you didn’t do it, this maid needs to be penalized for her deceit” May’s voice was calm, and for a moment I thought she loved me.
I could see the people nod to Zoe’s word “Innocent? If you so much believe she is, why not let her prove her innocence?” My father supported her suggestion while May insisted I couldn’t poison her. She agreed to me proving my innocence.
Proof? Innocence? How did we get here? Before I knew what was happening I saw the maid handing over May’s cup to Alex.
“Anny, I believe this is a mix, but for these people to believe with me, you’ll have to drink of this cup,” Alex said with all sincerity and I felt hopeful that he was on my side.
I collected the cup and drank from the content of it. I was fine, but before I could say so, darkness kissed my sight, and all I could hear were mumbles and murmurs as my sight switched off.
Leonard’s POVI stood from my seat immediately Alpha Nicholas entered my room. “Leonard, we need to go,” I couldn’t understand the underlying emotion in his voice. I sincerely hoped it was worth the wait and I haven’t lost Elizabeth.Closing the door behind me, I caught up with Alpha Nick on his track. He turned slightly while walking towards the exit “The doctor asked to see us, but I don’t why,” he said as he continued in his tracks. It better be for a good course. Elizabeth lying there for months has caused me many internal damages. Like, I wasn’t ready to let go of the sweetest soul that I have encountered. As if Alpha Nick was reading my mind, he patted my shoulder assuringly.I could see the young girls outside the compound smiling and giggling. I wondered how they would react if they lost Liza. We’ve all waited for her to come back to us very soon, and going into the doctor’s segment of the park commanded a new wave of hope.“Emm… Liza… she’s awake…” I didn’t wait for him to fi
REALITY KICKS INAnnabel Danny’s POVFor the umpteenth time, I shot a glance at myself through the mirror. I can’t believe this is me, no matter the number of times I try to accept my new reality.I look so damn hot! I wore a flowing dress, the fabric swirled around my legs with each graceful step. It was a deep shade of black that stuck to my body like my second skin. A visible deep V cut made the curves of my breasts swell, and its hem fluttered like a whisper with every movement.I grabbed the oxblood bag and slipped on oxblood heels. I double checked my deep shade of burgundy hair that was loosely pinned up, with soft tendrils framing my face. Rubbing the back of my neck as if it’d make me less nervous, I made my way out of the room. The sound of my heels tapping against the polished floor gave me out as everyone shifted their gaze to me. My breath caught in my throat at the number of people that swarmed the pack house.“To the Moon Goddess who decided to return Elizabeth to us!”
Leonard’s POVLiza’s body was right in front of me, her familiar features, the softness of her hair, the curve of her lips, but the eyes that met mine are so different. They are cold, distant and possess a depth that chills me to the core.I couldn’t keep my cool any longer, “Just tell me the truth, I freaking know you are not Liza. Who the hell are you?” her eyes widened in shock as she remained fixed on spot, batting her eyes like a startled deer caught in the glare of oncoming headlights. It was as if her mind was battling to process what she was hearing, her lashes fluttering rapidly in disbelief, trying to blink away the impossibility before her.“I… I don’t know what… you are talking about Leo,” she stuttered trying to hide her nervousness and fear of her being exposed. “Who are you?” I demanded, my voice a mixture of desperation and anger. I took a step closer, and she took a step back. I clenched my fists, struggling to keep my composure. “What have you done to her?” I increa
Annabel’s POVThe afternoon light streamed through the tall windows, casting a warm glow on the elegant space. I had joined the pack warriors earlier to train, and it felt so good to know this body was a very strong one. After having a shower, I was now leisurely dressed in a flowing gown of light blue silk, the fabric catching the light as I moved. Liza’s wardrobe is so full of nice dresses, that I have to dress like I’m attending an event even at home. The dress was simple yet exquisite, its design tailored to highlight my natural beauty. Delicate lace trimmed the neckline, and a satin ribbon was tied at the waist. The air was calm, but there was an undercurrent of tension.I was deep in thought as I hadn’t heard from Leonard. Probably he had left for his pack. I understand his pain, he had waited for his beloved for four good months, only to realize she was no longer the person he was mated to.My long hair cascaded freely down my back, framing my face with a softness that belied
Annabel’s POV“Pretty Liza, up for a challenge?” I instantly looked back to be met by the view of a grinning Chris. If there’s one thing I like about this park, it’s surely Chris. I still feel unsafe with people, but there is this peace I can’t place my hands on around him.“Sure! Why not? I replied with a subtle smile on my face.We chatted as we walked down to the arena that is situated in the middle of the park. The arena has so many segments, ranging from adult warriors, kids, the Alpha family, the Beta family, and the general arena for members of the park.My gaze drifted to the kids' arena and it caught sight of a little boy fighting with all his might, he kept standing after every pull-down. His actions made me stop in my tracks.“Isn’t it funny how these kids have such great dreams at such tender ages?” Chris asked as I stopped walking.“I find it amusing Chris,” my mind flashed back to the dream I used to have as a kid, and nostalgia settled on my face for a second. “I’m gla
Leonard’s POVDerek shot me a deadly glare once he entered my study running his gaze up and down like a detective. “Don’t tell me…” he trailed off. “Drop the topic, Derek,” I said as I picked up the last document on the floor.Truth be told, no one would have noticed anything off about my study if not for Derek.Asking a maid to do the cleaning would have been a nice idea, but that would mean one thing, my parents knowing I was around and bombarding me with questions about when I’d be settling down with my own Luna. A conversation I so much detest at the moment. “You did again?” his voice came to a little above whisper with an annoying smirk playing his cheeks.Sometimes I wonder how he’s my best friend and my future Beta. Being the future Alpha of the most dreaded Pack in the North comes with so many burdens and responsibilities, hence the need to have loyal subjects.Derek has been one of those people that can be trusted and if not for his loyalty and how he has grown to be the bro
Annabel’s POVThe warmth of the morning sunlight sent me a warm kiss as I opened my eyes. Soft, golden rays peeked through the curtains, enveloping me with an uplifting energy. I feel better with each passing day. The ballet lessons with the girls have been nothing short of amazing. I was a bad dancer in my past life, but now I dance effortlessly and even teach.I had always wanted to learn ballet as a child and was mum was ready to teach me how to dance. Unfortunately, I had lost her before we could hold any lesson on ballet.“Once mini Anny is here, mum is going to teach big Anny ballet.” those were her words, the promise she didn’t get to keep. For a second, I clung to my sheets, I miss her so much. I wish she hadn’t left, I wouldn’t be in this mess. Dad wouldn’t have married that evil woman and Alex wouldn’t have cheated on me with Zoe.I checked the time and it was past eight, I stood up to have a warm bath. As the water cascaded down my body washing away the night’s slumber, I
Zoe’s POV“No, that isn’t fair,” the maid beside Sarah mumbled, “No one knows what happened.” “We were all there, Zoe exposed her,” Sarah retorted while rolling her eyes.“She was a disgrace to the pack, the mind to poison her stepmother?” she scoffed.“You can’t just conclude that way… what if?Sarah cut the other girl of, “What if what? What if she wasn’t sleeping around disgracing the Alpha? Or what if there was no secret? What if she didn’t reject her mate a day before their wedding?”“Exactly Sarah! The ‘what ifs’ are many and we shouldn’t slander a dead girl when we don’t even know the truth,” she said shaking her head out of pity.“She was a nice girl who would not tarnish the image of her father unlike…” she paused to look around, “unlike that bitch that one has to walk on edges around,” her cheeks curved up in a dry smirk.I couldn’t believe my ears. Did a maid just call me ‘bitch?’ Since the duo couldn’t see me or sense me, I decided to lean closer to the kitchen door and l
Leonard's POV I badly wanted to stop him. The pull became stronger the more I tried.“She f******* doesn't have a wolf. Why this insatiable pull?” I winched out of confusion.I haven't seen her since I came to the party. And right now, I have to search for her.I need to be sure whatever is happening is supposed to be. I need to find Oriel. She can help me know the truth. I need her to move past this phase.“Is she with a wolf now? Is our mate bond getting stronger or is it wearing off?”This pull can mean any of the options and I need to find out. That's the only way out of this ordeal.I couldn't talk to Lucil, he wasn't having it easy too. I know how much he has always wanted to reunite with her wolf.If she's back, then I doubt if there's a way out for me. Lucil comes first to me.I started walking up the stairs. I didn't know where I was going, but I just had to.The packed house has been renovated and is now different from how I left it.I held my chest slightly and continued
Leonard's POV Alpha Nicholas is a good friend of my father, saying no to his invitation to his party wouldn't sit well with my parents. If I say I wouldn't make it, no one would force me. But what's there to lose? I have a business to take care of here in Glassland. It was perfect timing, so why not?I looked at the paperwork on my table and sighed. Who goes to a party when having loads of work to do?“Don't be a boring f****! Unwind, relax and chill. It's better than sticking your stuff into that ugly thing,”Lucil drooled after his last word and I couldn't help but shake my head.Far from enjoyment, this party is business for me. I need to meet up with a few people and confirm some of my suspicions.I hibernated my laptop and got out of the suite where I'd been staying for a few days now. The party started hours ago. But yes, what's the fun of getting there early?According to plan, I only have to show up, congratulate Alpha Nicholas and his Luna, present my gift, do my business
Annabel's POV I looked around carefully and the only thing I could see was brightness.Where on earth is this place? I thought in my head.“This is a realm different from the world that you know,” I flinched as the brightness provided an answer to the question running through my head.It just answered my question. A question that I didn't ask. How possible is that? What is this? A brightness that reads the mind? “My child, you have no cause to be alarmed,” and for some unknown reasons, I felt calm, cool and collected. For the first time in a long while I felt like I was in a haven. From the brightness, a being emerged. Her face shone and I couldn't look her straight in the eyes. But far from terror and fear, I felt peace and tranquility. Each of her steps was enshrined in grace. She exuded authority, power and dominance. A thought clipped in my head, whoever I saw in the past isn't the same person in the void. But why? Why must I have encounters with different mystical beings? I k
Annabel's POV Confusion gripped me once I looked to my right and I couldn't find Oriel. Where could she be?With immediate effect, I stood from my seat and started walking down the stairs.I felt drawn to the room on the left before the first staircase. Trusting my instincts, I decided to go in and confirm why I would be drawn.Just then, the event of following my instincts and seeing what I shouldn't see struck me like lightning.I shouldn't repeat my mistake, but here I am torn between writing a different script and repeating the previous one.“It's just a few minutes left to the full moon, you can't possibly allow her to be just anywhere by this time,”I know Oriel is a strong girl, but she still has a lot to learn. I see her like the little sis I never had. Plus, she's a sweet soul. I couldn't love her less.I pushed open the door and to my shock. An unidentified man was on Oriel trying to strangle her with a throw pillow. Her words were muffled which was the reason why I couldn
Annabel's POV I stood in front of the mirror, admiring the icy blue dress that I got from the store a few weeks ago. Dad had announced the date of his wedding with Fiona, and myself and Oriel had gone to get a dress each for the occasion. The dress matched my eyes and went well with my silver-dyed hair. The fabric hugged my curves seamlessly. Oriel's dress was the same as mine, but amber in color. A match for her eyes.“Hurry guys, we are going to be late,” Chris' voice echoed through the door.“Yes sir!” We both replied in unison. Oriel looked fantastic and I wish this event would be more amazing.I've been learning to trust Fiona again. After our last confrontation, she had been trying to make amends and the truth is, her efforts cannot be unnoticed.Chris had pointed out how close we used to be before the whole saga happened and I hope we can one day take off from where we left.“Okay, ladies! It's not your wedding day for Goddess's sake… I'm coming in,”Before we could protest,
“You think we fear you? You think you are the most dreadful Alpha around?” He looked like a piece of s***. Less wonder why his words didn't bother me. The voice of one of the captured welcomed us as we stepped into the dungeon. He kept running his mouth as we stood in their front. His hair was a dark blonde that would have looked amazing if healthy, but what he had was far from healthy. My eyes ran over to his face, he had a scar on his face, close right to his mouth and I could see that was the mark Derek had given him before they broke out through the help of whoever did.I was silent. Just looking at the space between his head and that of his partner who had black hair, as unhealthy as his partner in crime. For some weird reason, he looked feeble and uninterested in this assignment, but I've dealt with many of his types. When I was new to this game, I had thought people like him were being used and forced out of their will to do evil, but over time, I realized it was all a façade
Leonard's POV “D*** it!”“Give me all the s**** babe!”“F***!”“Grind that spot you b****!”“Grind it like your lifeline is tied to it!”I groaned in pleasure as Tricia continued to grind my d*** with her h****p** I had no intention of getting her f***** today, but she sure knows when I need to release some tension.“Arrrrrrrgh!” I jerked her off my lap and bent her over my study room mahogany table. This girl has made me realize how strong this table is.My favorite spot for a not-too-categorized quickie is my study. My room would raise a long hypothesis about settling down from my parents.I mean the last time, Father already told me I wouldn't be having a swearing-in party if I didn't bring my Luna or talk about Liza.“Ohhhhhh! S***! F***!”“Holy s***!”“Yesssssss!!!!”Tricia kept going on and on mumbling dirty words as I kept hitting her G-s***. I held her waist with my right hand and covered her mouth with my left.I do not want her noise to cause a scene as it is. I could stil
It's been a few days since I last saw Chris. He's been out of the pack running errands for Alpha Nicholas.I'm out for a walk in the woods. Though I do not fancy taking walks in the woods. But, I can't explain the way I've been acting lately.I feel like I'm developing new characters, but scrap that, it feels so familiar. I bet it's all due to my situation.“Our wedding is taking place on the next full moon,” Dad had been so happy to break the news to me over dinner last night.Don't be surprised I called him Dad. It's kinda coming naturally to me these days. I say that with fewer struggles than I used to.Am I happy for him? I honestly don't think I give a cent about his wedding or whatever he's planning with Fiona.I only hate the fact that I'm going to have a stepmother in my new life too. What a twist of fate. What led to my demise in my last life is still much present in my present life. But blaming the mysterious being is not what I feel like doing today. The last time I did thr
Annabel’s POVSince Fiona eavesdropped on my conversation with Oriel, I've been extra careful of how I carry myself in the pack house. For all I care, she might have people spying on me. Yet, I am not ready to give them what they desperately want on a platter of gold.“You can always talk to me Liza, I'll be more than glad to give my ears,” those were her words to me just last night after dinner. She must think it's easy to trust and open up. But of what significance is doing so when everyone is going to desert you once they know you for who you are? The grande vibration from my phone ushered me back to reality. It was time for my meeting. I was already dressed and ready. The alarm ring sure came at the right time. Truth is, since my encounter with the mysterious being, I have become more serious with my training. One way to get the answers to my numerous and ocean-wide questions is to train my mind and body. Once I picked up my backpack and put my phone, a bottle of water and my jo
