Aldric's POV

“When do I have to go?” Simone asks. She’s barely feeling any kind of emotion. It’s as if she flipped a switch and turned off all her regular emotions. She has a job to do, and she plans to do it. "Tonight? Or do we have some time?"

“I already said that you are not going,” I shoot back.

“You are not the boss of me,” Simone says and plants her hands in her hips.

“You are dead wrong about that,” I reply, trying my best to ignore the anger swirling around in my chest. “I am the boss of you, and you will listen to me.”

“Make me,” she dares me. “I don’t understand. I thought you wanted these vampires dead. If Asmodeus is going to exterminate most of the humans and countless vampires, we need to stop him, don't we? That's the right thing to do. And if my blood is the key, then there's nothing to talk about, is there?”

“I did not say I wanted Asmodeus dead. I want Baron dead.”

“Yes well, things changed didn't it? They both need to die. Asmodeus first, then Baron. And we'll need

Aldric's POVI sit in the window and stare out over the dark mountains while I wait for sunrise. My emotions and thoughts are all over the place. Simone is gone. She left last night with Darrick. We bother agreed that it was easier that way. I couldn’t do it. I couldn’t bring myself to take her to Asmodeus. Vesper came by right after they left, but the moment I saw him I flew into a rage and tried to tear out his throat. To my surprise, I came very close to defeating him. The only thing that stopped me from ramming the Ash stake into his heart was my loyalty to my family.I sat on top of him, holding the stake high above my head. “Why did you do it?” I asked.“I had to. You needed your bride, and she needed you. You complete each other. She makes your stronger?”“What?”“Look at yourself, baby brother. Look how powerful you've become. You managed to overpower me, a vampire twice your age. You could break free of Asmodeus’s influence, something no one can do without a druid's help. No

Simone's POV I am right back where I started. Locked in a room all by myself. I stare out at the dying city below, my heart heavy and soul screaming out to be with Aldric. Every part of me, every cell of my being, misses him. Asmodeus took up residence in a hotel that belonged to a human. He killed the owner and enslaved the staff. The human guests fled in horror only to be met by hundreds of neophytes Asmodeus rallied to his side. It was a bloodbath. Darrick and I landed among the stinking corpses, which no one bothered to incinerate - they just left them there to rot, and for the life of me I couldn't understand why the vampires would choose to do that. “Deep breaths, Daughter,” Darrick said when he saw the expression on my face. “Remember what I told you on the way here. Don’t let Aldric feel your sorrow.” Darrick called a group of neophytes over. To my surprise, they obeyed his order when he commanded them to start a pyre and burn to corpses. “Why do they listen to you?” I ask

Simone's POVThe child looks up at me with big, brown eyes. She knows what's coming. They've robbed her of her innocence a long time ago. She reminds me so much of myself that my heart breaks into a million pieces. I just want to scoop her up and protect her. “Mastuh Ass-mo…Assemos…”“Ass-mo-day-uhs,” I pronounce his name for her.“Yes,” she says with a nod. “Mastuh says you can feed. I taste weally good.”I smile at the little girl’s inability to pronounce an ‘r’ correctly even as my heart keeps shattering. Even at her tender age, she already learned how to adapt to her cruel vampire masters. “That’s okay. I’m not hungry tonight. You can rest.”“Weally?”“Yes.” I swallow past the really dry knot in my throat, knowing it will only get worse and worse. I look around the room for something to distract me, but there’s nothing. “Why don’t you lie down? Take a little nap? You look very tired to me.”“I’m always tiwed.”She is very pale and has deep black circles under her eyes. Poor thing

  • Rebel Blood   Chapter 54

Aldric's POVI grit my teeth as I shift into my mist form, knowing that I’ll have to stay in this shape much longer than I’m used to or are comfortable with, but it’s the only way I can move through Asmodeus’s hotel undetected by his guards.Rather stupidly, Asmodeus didn’t enchant the whole hotel, just the part where he kept Simone, so it was easy enough to get in. It’s finding my bride that’s proving difficult. The whole place smells like her, yet nothing smells like her. I felt Simone’s fear, and knew it for what it was. She was afraid of herself, of something she might do, and still the only thing that stopped me from barging into the hotel like a raging lunatic was Luban. “Remember what Father said,” he reminded me. “She has to get Asmodeus to trust her.”It's just the two of us, sitting right in the lion's mouth. My humans and our siblings are off, criss-crossing the country, killing Ruth’s offspring as far as they go. Rumours about my whereabouts are already starting to spread

AldricLuban slips the Ash stake into my hand, but Baron notices and quickly tries to stop me. “Wait, wait, wait,” he says. “You can’t kill me. It’s against our laws, and you live and die by our laws, don’t you?”“I stopped caring about the law when Asmodeus took my bride from me,” I hiss. “All’s fair in love and war, isn’t it?”Baron looks up into sky. “My family’s up there. My sons, my daughters, if you kill-”Grabbing the back of Baron’s head, I plunge the stake into his chest. It’s surprisingly easy. His breastplate snaps like a dry twig, and the tip of the stake pierces his heart, but I don’t drive it all the way home.He inhales sharply, his eyes widen in surprise and fear. He swallows against the blood that starts to bubble out of his mouth. “I am their master now,” I whisper in his ear. “You should have remembered that before you came here. They can't touch me.”I'm fairly certain they can. If Asmodeus could be lured into the catacombs to be entombed, then I'm definitely not u

  • Rebel Blood   Chapter 56

Simone's POV I don’t wake slowly as I usually do, but with a jolt and a screaming headache. I didn’t even know vampires could get headaches. Tonight, unlike other nights, there's a blood bag waiting for me on the bedside table. I'm not thirsty, but hoping it will ease the headache, I tear the bag open and drink half of it before I discard it. I feel sick. Almost hungover, and the blood is only making it worse. I killed people last night. So many that I lost count. Every kill comes crashing in on me at once, each in startling clarity, each ghost fighting inside my head to be seen first. The vampire guard outside my room. I just ripped his head off. The human slave that was in the process of washing the floors. I drank from her until her heart stopped beating and simply dropped her where we stood. The young man that came running from his room to see what was going on. I was so violent with him that I broke his neck. One by one, the murders come to me. I showed no mercy. Vampires a

Aldric’s POVThree weeks. It’s been three weeks since I’ve seen my bride. Since I held her and felt her. Since I inhaled her scent and kissed her lips.Three weeks. And we’re no closer to finding out why Asmodeus is holding on to her than we were on the night Simone stepped into that lion’s den.I expected her to wake up on the night after her bloodlust rampage filled with remorse, but I felt nothing from her. Not even a flicker. She is blocking me on instinct now, and it hurts like hell, but I understand why she's doing it. It's the only way she can stay sane.Luban and I spend most of our time in the basement of one of the many abandoned homes in this town. Asmodeus made quick work of killing as many humans as he could, and the rest fled - most didn't get far before the vampires fell on them and murdered them too.Every night, I watch as Asmodeus leaves with his vampires to kill more humans, wiping out entire camps sometimes. The old magisters keep showing up here, complaining about

  • Rebel Blood   Chapter 58

Simone's POVI wake to Asmodeus screaming at someone in the hallway. "How the fuck did you let this happen?"I'm getting used to the ancient vampire's unhinged rants. He's coming undone. Every day, he is just a little worse, goes a little more insane. There’s no blood waiting for me tonight. There hasn’t been any food for a few nights now. Asmodeus killed most of the humans in the hotel, then moved on to the surrounding towns, murdering every living thing in his way. Aldric and his allies rescued those they could, the rest died or crawled into the deepest, darkest holes they could find. Our donors are wearing thin and our lord and master decided to start rationing our blood supply. This is the longest I've gone without feeding. We went from one blood bag a night to one every other night and now we’re on one a week. We’d have even less blood available if Asmodeus didn’t start to cull the vampires while he was at it.I stretch and try to work up enough saliva to swallow past the dry bur

  • Rebel Blood   Thank you

Dear Readers, As per usual, after the end of a book, I would like to thank you all for taking the time to read my twisted imaginings. Thank you for the comments and the gems, the ratings and the words of encouragement along the way. This was a particularly difficult book to write, and there were days I felt like giving up, but knowing that you liked it and wanted to keep reading about Aldric and Simone kept me going. Don't get me wrong, I loved them both, but my goodness, could those two be difficult at times. It probably doesn't help that I am anal retentive and wanted to get the historical facts "just right," even if I only wrote two sentences about a certain period in history. I swear, I fell down a historical rabbit hole every single time. And so, we've reach the end of this particular journey. Thank you for coming along. It is, and always will be, appreciated. Until next time. Much love,Celice.

  • Rebel Blood   Chapter 73

Aldric’s POV Before any of the vampires around me can get any ideas, I break Asmodeus’s neck. For a long time, no one moves. Everyone’s staring at the dead man in disbelief. Within minutes, I flipped their world upside down and ended a war we thought would last centuries. All of us are unsure what to do next, including me. The only person that's not deeply affected by Asmodeus’s death is Simone. She barely knew him, she didn’t know what life was like before the vampires came. She doesn’t fully understand the gravity of the thing I had just done. Herod and Darrick feel their father’s death most keenly. They hated him, but they are heartbroken at the same time. After a while, the two originals come unstuck. Wordlessly, they pick their dead father up from the ground and disappear with him into the night sky. "Call a meeting of the families,” I say to Lazarus. My brother nods and kicks off. One by one, the vampires start to come back to reality. “What do we do now?” Knut asks. “Go ba

  • Rebel Blood   Chapter 72

Simone’s POV I don’t know if Asmodeus can hear Aldric. I don’t think so. All I know is, is that my groom is in my head, using our telepathic connection to translate the conversation between the two most ancient vampires that ever walked this earth. “Ruth,” Asmodeus says. “I have missed you.” “No,” she says. “You forgot about me.” “Never,” he says and takes a step in our direction. I try to get away, but Ruth’s hand quickly shoots out and she grabs me, her eyes pleading with me not to leave her side. “Even when I was entombed, my dreams were with you,” the vampire goes on. “You are a liar Asmodeus. You betrayed me. Betrayed our bond. You even betrayed the blood god himself. Surely he will punish you severely for what you had done.” The vampire snorts loudly. “If he wanted to punish me, he would have done so by now.” Ruth is quiet. I’m with her on this one. Why hasn’t the blood god punished Asmodeus? “He doesn’t work that way,” Aldric says in my head. “Then what is the point of

  • Rebel Blood   Chapter 71

Simone's POV “I’m really fucking angry at you,” I snap at Aldric when he walks into my room. "You just sent me away like a naughty child." “I know, dear,” he says and folds his arms across his chest. "It won't happen again." “Don’t do that.” “Don’t do what?” he asks, his voice filled with fake innocence. “Don’t be all charming like that.” He chuckles and grabs me around the waist, lifts me a little too high in the air and throws me on the bed. He crawls onto the mattress after me, already taking off his shirt, his eyes filled with fire and lust. “Take off your pants,” he orders me. I don’t even argue with him. I don't want to. There are days that I feel like I can't get enough of him, can't get enough of his body and his touch. Today, is such a day. I slither out of my leggings while he yanks down his jeans. Aldric spins me around, lifting me up onto all fours. He smacks my ass. Hard. The warmth that follows the sharp sting settles between my legs as a throbbing, aching need.

  • Rebel Blood   Chapter 70

Aldric’s POVVesper lands first, followed by Lazarus and Hagar who have Ruth between them. “Did you bind her with magic?”“No,” Vesper answers. “She came willingly.”“Did she? And you weren’t afraid that she’d try to escape?”“No,” Vesper lifts and drops one shoulder. “She talks about her destiny and Athenia a lot.”“Yes. Our sister is the one that freed her.”No one looks surprised by this news. I'm guessing Ruth already told them.Simone walks out onto the porch and runs straight to Vesper, launching herself into my brother’s arms. He snatches her out of the air and spins her around in a little circle. “Hello, Poppet,” he says with a grin. “You are growing up way too fast.”I glance at the pair. He’s not wrong. Simone is quickly shedding her neophyte skin – it’s too fast and it bothers me, but there’s nothing I can do about it. All vampires mature at different rates, and Simone chose to express way.Lazarus comes over to say his hellos while Hagar stays next to Ruth just in case she

  • Rebel Blood   Chapter 69

Aldric's POV I want to strangle Athenia for showing Simone every horror show the humans ever created, and none of the beauty. “Go up to the house,” I say to my bride. “I need to have a word with my sister.” Simone is emotionally shattered, and instead of the argument I've come to expect of her, she simply kicks off and fly in the direction of the mansion. “Why did you do that?” I ask Athenia. “You had no right.” “She needed to understand.” “You deliberately showed her the worst of humanity! Why?” "If she does not understand reality, she will not fight. She needs to learn that everyone, regardless of species, is capable of the worst kinds of depravity." "Fine. But there are other ways, better ways." “My end is near,” she says. “I did not have time to be delicate.” “What?” She gives me a sly smile. “I will not live to see you end Asmodeus. In fact, I won't live to see another sunrise” My insides turn to water. “Who is coming? Tell me so I can stop them. You don't have to die.”

  • Rebel Blood   Chapter 68

Simone's POVI inhale sharply as the world is suddenly ripped out from under me and we’re sucked into nothingness. For a moment, we linger in complete darkness, then the cosmos opens up in front of us.The sight of it almost brings me to tears. All the stars and moons, all the colours of the universe are in full display like a Van Gogh painting. I’ve never seen anything so beautiful, and I've never felt so at peace with myself. We fall out of universe and land back on earth. My head spinning a little by how quickly everything happened. “They can’t see or hear us,” Athenia says as we walk up to something that resembles a house. The mud structure has a grass roof, and orange light flickers in the small niches along the wall. Without thinking twice, Athenia pushes the rickety door open and kneels next to a labouring woman lying on a pile of straw covered with rough fabric. Blood streams down the woman's legs, colouring the straw red. The only light is coming from the blocked hearth. The

Simone’s POV“Why have I never seen Ruth before?” I ask Aldric. "I have gone to that beach almost every day since I was reborn, and I never saw her there."He groans and swings his legs off the bed. He rests his elbows on his knees and cradles his head. “Different time zones maybe. She’s constantly on the move.”“Yes, but at some point…she was with Darma, wasn’t she? Ruth convinced her to free Asmodeus.”“Who told you that?"'No one. I just assumed."No,” Aldric says and scratches the back of his head. “Darma decided by herself to free Asmodeus. He said she did it because she thought he’d grant her favours.” My groom shrugs. “But who knows, he might have been lying.”“Asmodeus is a lot of things, but he never lies,” I say and sit next to Aldric. He is exhausted, and he has been ever since he came here. “If Ruth was made by the blood god, doesn’t she have all the talents like Asmodeus does?”“She might have had them at one point,” Aldric says, “but since her blood is so terribly corrup

  • Rebel Blood   Chapter 66

Simone's POV “This actually explains a lot,” Aldric says. “Why?” “Sargon was an orphan that founded the Akkadian empire. A man that ambitious…sooner or later, he’ll want to get all of that back. Living a life in the shadows, unknown and unseen...that would never be good enough for a man like that. Baron wanted nothing less than absolute rule over everything and everyone.” “What happened to him? Sargon, I mean.” Aldric shrugs. “According to history he died around the age of fifty-five, but he might have been younger. Humans weren’t good at tracking the passage of time back then.” “He didn’t die, he was turned into a vampire,” I state. “Yeah.” “To get more power.” Aldric peers at me through the fringe of hair that flops over his eyes. “Probably…and what he got was a life of darkness and secrecy.” “I created him when he was about twenty-five,” Herod says from nowhere. Aldric and I both look up to stare at the vampire at the foot of the stairs. "In human years, he was sixty-five
