Boredom sank in as we waited for Dr. Rayne to call us into the treatment room. My only entertainment was watching a fly head-butting the window, trying to get out. I could relate. Dr. Rayne was running late, and it was forty minutes of my life I was never getting back. The TV screen on the waiting area wall was playing the news channel with the subtitles on. Grayson was daydreaming or stuck in a hypnotic trance because his eyes were glazed and were transfixed upon the screen. Mason had picked up a pamphlet about hibernation and was busy folding it into a paper airplane. Lucas was quiet, slouched in his seat with his eyes closed. Alex was browsing through my maternity notes, struggling to decipher Dr. Rayne's unruly handwriting.

Alex's eyes flicked up as Mason sent his airplane soaring across the waiting area. It crash-landed on the side of Lucas's face, waking him up with a jolt. He scanned the room with a furious scowl, searching for the culprit. Mason pretended to watch the
