Pit of Vipers, Pt 5
Eva stumbled slightly as the platform hit the bottom of the Pit. As she ambled out into the preparatory floor, the corpse of her dead opponent was dragged off to who knows where.
She grasped at her abdomen, which dripped blood out of her two puncture wounds.
“That was really kinda dumb of me,” Eva muttered.
“Yeah, it was,” Severas said.
She had made her way to Eva’s side quickly the moment the platform hit the bottom. The Justicar placed a hand on her shoulder and helped steady her.
“Armor got dinged up a bit,” said Eva, “and I gotta get it patched up.”
“No,” replied Severas. “We need to get you to the clinic
CeritusOrbisI was seriously considering having Sev pick up Eva the way one would pick up a cat - by the scruff. But that’s a bit too dom/sub and I don’t want to get into that. At least, not yet.

Cheers erupted from the stands as duelists cut each other to ribbons on the arena floor below. Fresh blood splattered down across the fighting rings, and clumped up from the sand surrounding. With slightly labored breaths, Eva adjusted her stance as she reassessed her opponent. There were a number of scratches across her armor, along with a handful of actual cuts. And her opponent - a tall and lithe Drogar in highly ornate armor - also looked similarly worse for the wear. Her breathing was hard, and her armor was covered with numerous cuts. A few bled. With her blade high in the air, Eva swung it down with incredible power. Her slash tore at the air in front of her and headed straight towards her opponent’s head. But before it could get there, it was stopped by her opponent’s beltknife. Though her opponent was able to parry her decisive blow, he was pushed back from the sheer force of it. He stumbled backwards with clumsy steps, but was able to catch himself before he completely lost his balance. His body heaved visibly as he fought vainly to catch his breath. The Ra’ventrii armor hung in the air above a portable NanoRepair Platform, which glowed a light green as it slowly repaired the armor itself. A swarm of nanites flowed around the armor and slowly stitched and restrengthened it back to perfect working condition. Next to it was the Ra’ventrii beltknife, which was also floating above its own portable NRP. It too had its own nanite cloud which reshaped, resharpened, and rehoned the edge down to its atomic structure. Alevos tweaked the settings of the blade’s resharpening on his circular datapad while Eva looked over his shoulder. Similarly, Miko and Szereth pored over the armor’s performance data, and tweaked its responsiveness carefully. With great fanfare and multiple vocal flourishes, an announcer’s voice resounded throughout the arena.

Miko looked intently at the messenger bag right in front of her face. Or, perhaps, it was more accurate to say she was right up on the bag itself. The Admiral passed a cup of coffee over to Retholis. A little steam escaped its surface as he sniffed at it. She then grabbed her own cup from the coffee table in front of him, then sat in a chair across.The two of them looked at each other as they took quiet sips of their drink.Around them was the Admiral’s makeshift office and some of her self-defined kinetic furniture. All in all, it was pretty barebones. Certainly nothing like her cutting-edge lab in her high-tech asteroid base.But she made do.There was a desk with a well-used terminal on it. It was flanked by mostly bare shelves, and in front of it were the two highly comfortable chairs they were now using. Between their chairs was the coffee table with a fresh pot of coffee on it.
