"Good morning. I'm Hannah Rodriguez. May I know the office of Nate Sarmiento, please?" nasa lobby siya ng NS Hotel na pagmamay-ari ni Nate.
"Do you have an appointment with the GM?"
"W-wala. But he'll see me---" hindi na niya natapos ang sasabihin nang mag-dial na sa telepono ang kausap.
It was already the third day na nasa poder ni Nate si Elisha.
"I'm sorry, Ms. Rodriguez, but you are not allowed to see the General Manager," pukaw sa kanya ng receptionist matapos itong tumawag sa kung sino.
"Hindi Miss, kaibigan niya ako—"
"Miss, please leave in peace. Or I will call the security to drag you out," putol nito sa sasabihin niya, masyadong suplada para sa posisyon nito sa hotel.
"You don't understand. Please, I need to talk to Mr Sarmiento.
She was losing hope but she was far from giving up.
May kausap ito sa cellphone but he stopped when he saw her. Their eyes locked for few seconds bago ito nagtuloy tuloy ulit. But she wouldn't let the chance slip, right?
"Mr. Sarmiento!" lakas loob niyang tawag dito "Let's talk... Please." Kinakabahan siya, Nate looked so much different from the man she met a couple of days ago. He was undeniably, dangerously handsome with his black suit and tie. Every inch of him shouts how powerful of a man he was. "Nate, please," she begged. That's when he finally stopped to face her, napalunok siya as he gestured to the guards to let go of her.
"What is it you want, Hannah?" He looked at her the way she would know that she was bothering him.
"Let me see Elisha... please... please. I beg you, Mr. Sarmiento—"
"You're telling me where Olive is?" Malamig na tanong nito.
"I really don't know where she is. Please believe me. I don't even have communication with her. If I have, I'll ask her so I can tell you—"
"Then it's a no." Tumalikod na agad ito at ipinagpatuloy ang pakikipag-usap sa cellphone.
"You're so heartless!" she yelled, wala na siyang magagawa, she already lost her temper. "All I'm asking you now is you let me see Elisha!"
Hindi na siya nito pinansin. Sumakay na ito ng elevator and never looked at her again. She never left her spot to make sure she wouldn't miss him. She skipped her meals and waited till she was no longer sure if he's still coming out of the building.
So once again, she failed to see Elisha. She was crying while going home. She'd die fighting for the only family she's got.
-----
"Mommy."
"Mommy, I missed you," the little girl rained her face with her tiny kisses.
"Elisha? Baby, is that really you? You're really here?" napabalikwas na siya ng bangon at niyakap nang mahigpit ang anak. She couldn't help but cry. She missed her so much. "Are you okay?" she cupped her face at tiningnan nang maigi ang mukha nito, mga braso as if to check if may tanda na sinaktan ang bata. "I'm so glad you're here– but how?"
Leaning against the door frame was Nate in denim jeans and white v neck shirt. Hannah almost gasped at the sight of him. How did he manage to look awesome even when he was just standing there while watching them with evident boredom?
"Elisha wanted to see you," was the explanation he offered before she could say thank you. So she just nodded at him.
Though she wished na lumabas muna ito. Kagigising lang niya and obviously she wasn't in her best appearance. Not that she wanted to look good for Nate but she was worried he might take everything against her.
"I missed you, Eli." Niyakap niya ulit ang anak. "Mommy's so worried about you. Have you been okay?"
"Yes mommy!... Daddy is the best daddy ever," Elisha said cheerfully. "But I want to be with you mommy." Mahigpit ang yakap nito sa kanya. "Please, come with us."
Surely, Nate didn't tell that to Elisha.
"Have you been crying mommy?" Elisha kissed her eyes. "Did I make you cry?"
"No... No baby... I'm just tired. You didn't make me cry," kaila niya na mahigpit ulit itong niyakap.
She thought she'd never see her again. She's feeling a lot better now...
"Can we talk?" Baling niya kay Nate who just nodded at lumabas ng silid. "Eli, magbibihis lang si mommy. Wait for me here, okay?"
"Yes, mommy."
She took a very quick shower and slipped to a decent dress. Sabay silang lumabas ni Elisha ng kwarto to find Nate waiting impatiently on the couch.
"S-sorry," she murmured. "Do you want coffee—"
"No," he said coldly. "Leave Elisha in the room so we can talk."
She obeyed like a child to her father. After all, she owed him seeing Elisha again.
"I and your daddy need to talk," she told Eli. "While we talk, you can play with your dolls, okay?"
"Yes mommy. I love you."
"I love you too, Eli."
She sat across from him while he did his usual scrutinizing gaze. Napalunok siya at how he looked at her like she's some kind of an organism under a microscope. Then his eyes stopped on her still swollen arm that he held tight three days ago. His eyes reflected anger in them as she heard him mutter a curse under his breath.
"Much as I hate letting Elisha see you, I think she needs you."
"But, I am not letting my daughter live in this filthy apartment of yours," he said, adding how they easily entered the apartment kahit naka-lock iyon. Laglag ang balikat ni Hannah and was about to beg Nate to reconsider when he said, "So my offer is, you come with us."
"Are you serious?" Hindi siya makapaniwala and she didn't hide how surprised she was at his offer.
"It's Elisha's wish." He shrugged.
"But is it okay with you?"
"Do you really have to ask me that?" His brows furrowed in annoyance. "Of course not! You still owe me the four long years that you hid my daughter from me! And if it's not Elisha's wish, I wouldn't want to see you again"
"Hid your daughter? Are you serious?" And Olive would have willingly obeyed you. It was just I who convinced her na ituloy ang pagbubuntis niya. So, saan galing ang ibinibintang mo that I purposefully hid your daughter from you?"
"What are you talking about?" Naningkit ang mga mata nito. "I don't even know she got pregnant! I will never hurt my child, Hannah!"
"You're not serious." Nagulat siya sa reaksyon ni Nate. "Liv won't lie to me... So, if you didn't know that she got pregnant, what makes you so sure that Elisha is your daughter?"
"Don't ask the obvious." He stood up, pero halatang galit pa rin ito. "So, are you coming or not?"
"How did you know about Elisha?" She asked instead, somehow she wanted to know if it was just his money that worked it out or somebody just spilled the secret to him. And for a while she felt her heart ache at the possibility of betrayal by the only person who knew about Elisha aside from her.
'It couldn't be.'
Nate didn't answer.
As if naman madami siyang gamit.
Her daughter is her happiness...
Moving in with Nate Sarmiento never crossed her mind in the slightest. How could she if she despised the man for treating both Olive and Elisha heartlessly? Well, bahay nga pala iyon ng isang hotelier... "Let me get this clear with you," Nate said once Elisha was out of earshot. "You will resign from your work and be full time in watching my daughter." "But—" "I'll pay you, of course," he added insultingly, like napaka-importante no'n sa kanya. "I just don't want Elisha to think that I'm not treating her 'mommy' well." "I do plan to tell Elisha –and I've already told Olive– that I am not her mother. But not until she can already understand." "That's actually my plan, Hannah. You're coming with us just so you can have enough time to break it
"Thank you so much for entrusting your daughter to us, Mr. Sarmiento. We assure you that she'll be taken good care of," nakangiting sabi ng school administrator ng super exclusive school na pinag-enroll-an ni Nate kay Elisha. Ms. Cruz was a young school admin. She was pretty and sexy too. Obviously, she'd been trying to charm the too formal Nate Sarmiento since they came into the room. "I'm counting on that, Ms. Cruz. By the way, this is Hannah Rodriguez," sa wakas ay pakilala ni Nate sa kanya, akala niya nakalimutan na nito na kasama siya nito. Kanina pa kasi nag-uusap sina Nate at Ms. Cruz and he never introduced her, that she could only guess based on Ms. Cruz' subtle gazes na nagtataka na ito kung sino siya. ‘Yong
Nate was indeed a very busy man. But he made it a point to drive Hannah and Elisha to school everyday -at least for already three days straight. And it should have been a good thing. But Hannah hurts every time she sees how happy Elisha was with Nate's company. How did that happen? She never mentioned the word daddy to her so she wouldn't look for one. And Elisha never asked her about her father. Akala niya nagtagumpay na siyang burahin ang ano mang magkokonekta dito sa tunay nitong mga magulang, to Nate in particular. Pero heto, a little over a week pa lang since Nate came into Elisha's life and yet parang forever na silang magkakilala. Elisha loves her daddy so much it already hurts. Dahil alam ni Hannah that when she gets that chance na ilayo si Elisha - mahihirapan na siyang burahin si Nate sa buhay nito, If she ever gets that chance in the first place… Hannah always gets the backseat dahil gustong gusto ni Elisha sa passenger seat. She loves pestering h
"You're going to be late if you don't hurry up." "Why is daddy not driving us to school?" Malungkot at naka-pout na tanong nito. "Daddy's got a breakfast meeting, Eli. It's important." "More important than us?" Seryoso ang anak niya and she didn't know if it's a good or a bad thing. "Baby, listen to me. Daddy is a very busy man. But he finds time to spend with you. However, today, he's got this very important appointment with an extremely important person," she wasn't supposed to cover for Nate. But for some reason, ayaw niyang madagdagan ang problema ng binata. She couldn't forget that hurt smile of Nate last night. She had always thought that he's a strong man –for the short time she'd known him at least. But last night, habang sinasabi nito na nagpakasa
The latter was a picture of a happy kid. Nate on the other hand was a picture of a loving father. Before she knew it, a smile already crept across her face. She noticed a few people already recognized Nate Sarmiento as they began taking pictures of him in not so secret way. She knew that he knew and he didn't do anything about it. So hinayaan na lang din niya. After all, kahit hindi pa pinapakilala ni Nate sa publiko si Elisha, hindi naman nito itinatago ang anak nito. Nevertheless, she saw Paul and the other escorts stopping the crowd from
"Leah, stop!" Their little family moment at the fast food were all over the papers the next morning. Of course everybody jumped to the conclusion that Nate had a secret family all along. That's why his marriage to Olive didn't push through, ending with the latter marrying somebody else… "Come on, look at this... '' Leah tirelessly shoved the newspaper to her face. "This gesture is just so romantic. Who wouldn't think that you're not a couple?" Tukoy nito sa litratong hawak-hawak ni Nate ang kamay niya while trying to protect her and Eli from the media. "It's nothing, okay? A spur of the moment thing." "Hannah, he should've just left you right there if he didn't care about you!" "Why is it even such a big deal?" "Hello, Nate has celebrity status. You do not know but many rejoiced when his wedding was put on hold.
"N-no..." Hannah denied, although she knew Nate heard her sobs. "Just put me down now, please?" No. She wouldn't cry in front of Nate Sarmiento. He'd already seen her so weak in the elevator that breaking down would confirm his doubt that she wasn't capable of taking care of Elisha. Hannah wouldn't want to give Nate a reason to kick her out of her daughter's life very soon. "What happened back there?" she heard him ask matapos siyang maibaba sa couch. Worry was still evident on his face. "It's a good thing na tinawagan ako ni Paul. What if he didn't?" "You're just going to faint inside the elevator and that will scare the hotel guests if they see you..." dugtong nito. 'Okay... Nate was
Sabi nga ng binata, he didn't ask. He had told her to join him. "How's Elisha doing in school?" he asked. "Okay naman. She already have a best friend and he's a boy. "Boy?" Tikwas ang kilay na tanong ni Nate. "Is he courting my princess?" He pretended to be mad. "What?" Natatawang aniya ."You're kidding me..." "I think I need to meet him," pabirong sabi pa nito. "His mother is actually my friend, Nate... Her name is Leah. She's a good person. So, I believe that Seth is also a good kid. You know, Elisha wouldn't like him so much if he's not..." "I'm kidding, Hannah," he
"Time to see your doctor, anak."Pakiramdam niya kinurot ang puso niya when Eli didn't even look at him. His little girl was drowned into her thoughts again."Elisha, Dr. Railey is already waiting for you." Tinabihan niya ang bata at kinabig ito para halikan sa ulo."I don't need a doctor, daddy," mahinang usal ng bata. "I'm not sick.""He will just talk to you, anak." Dr. Railey was Eli's psychiatrist. For a week now, nakakailang session na si Elisha and yet parang wala pa ring improvement. "Hey, do you like to visit mommy?"Upon hearing the word mommy, Elisha nodded almost eagerly. Gano'n naman lagi. Kapag nahihirapan siyang kausapin ito, Hannah would always do the trick. Kapag nababanggit ito sa bata, Elisha would start responding like her normal self."Yes daddy! I miss mommy so much!""
"Olive," Hannah tried to calm Olive down. "Let's talk. Not like this. Please, natatakot na si Eli…" "No... We will talk like this. Eli has to know what a slut you are, Hannah!" "How you ruined our family!" She was a brave kid! "Don't hurt her, I beg you." "She's your daughter, Liv! Your own flesh and blood!" She couldn't contain seeing Eli so scared like that but she couldn't do anything. One wrong move and Olive could hurt Eli. "I know... " bahagya nitong inilayo ang kutsilyo "I'm not going to hurt Eli. I need her so Nate would come back to me. "If you're not going to coopera
Dumiretso na sila sa bahay. Nate held a meeting with the whole security team of his house. Kung bakit, hindi niya alam. After an hour, nagpaalam ito na makikipag-conference meeting sa mga staff nito via video call. She told him okay at nagpasyang mag-bake na lang ng chocolate chip cookies para sa asawa niya't anak. They were like crazy with the cookie. Mag-ama nga ang mga ito. Hannah smiled to herself. She knew Nate, babawi ito. That's for sure. She was preparing the ingredients when her phone rang. It was Olive. "Hello Liv," alanganin niyang bati. "Eli's with me. I'm wondering if you can come and get her? I have an appointment in two hours. I cannot drive her back. I need to fix myself pa." "
Hannah woke up to the feeling of a hand stroking her hair. What??? Who??? How??? She was alone in the townhouse! Who could possibly be with her? "Hannah," it was Nate's voice, Hannah froze. Just last night, she dreamed of him. In fact it's still so vivid, she could actually remember every detail of her dream. So hearing Nate's voice when she was already fully awake though not still opening her eyes, made her heart skip a beat. "Hannah" she heard him chuckling. "I know you're already awake. Come on, open your eyes or I'll kiss you." Sukat sa sinabi nito ay agad siyang nagmulat, only to find Nate's face directly above her face. His amused gaze stared back at her surprised wide eyes. "N-nate?!" She stammered at nagmamadaling bumangon, totally forgetting na halos magkadikit pala ang mukha nila. So she ended up head butting Nate Sarmiento. "Ouch!" "I-I'm sorry!" Agad niya i
"Welcome back, GM!" Paul, his best friend slash Eli's bodyguard, greeted him with a huge grin on his face. "You mean, Hannah?" he teased and an involuntary smile lit up his face. "Not good." "What do you mean not good?" kunot noong tanong niya na bahagyang kinakabahan. "The news isn't true right, Nate?" nananantiyang tanong nito. "What news?" mas lumalim ang pagkakakunot noo niya. "That you and Olive are getting married." "What?!" bulalas niya. "Of course not!" Saan galing iyon? "Well, that's what Olive's been telling everyone. That you're getting married. There were pictures of you and Olive circulating online. That you're together in Macau and you're having your sweet time t
It was just supposed to be three days. Nate hated every freaking time he needed to spend in Macau. Each second away from Elisha and Hannah's almost driving his thoughts into nuts. He missed Hannah so much that he needed to disconnect himself with his phone during his stay in Macau so that he wouldn't be tempted to call her every hour. Worst, fly back to the Philippines just so he would have her in his arms again. Because admittedly, he was so in love with Hannah that he would move mountains to be with her. Unfortunately, he couldn't do that at the given time. Nate never thought he was capable of loving one woman that way. He had Olive for five years. Although he believed he used to love her, separation had never been a problem to him. But with Hannah, it's a whole lot different story. Hannah Rodrigue
It's a weekend.Hannah decided to pay Leah a visit. As expected, Eli's reaction was adorable. Seeing Bethany for the first time, Eli repeatedly told her na bigyan na rin niya ito ng kapatid. Inggit na inggit ito kay Seth."Eli, mommy and daddy need to get married first," sabi ni Leah."When are you getting married, mom?" Ungot nito na ayaw bitawan ang kamay ni Bethany."In the right time, anak.""When is the right time?""You'll just know it, Eli." Malungkot siyang umiling. Four days in Macau and he had only called her once. Pagk
"Coffee, Sir?" Hannah still works for Nate in the hotel. Pero sa bahay nito na siya nakatira at sinasabay na siya sa pagpasok after dropping Elisha to her school. Gusto pa sana niyang gawin 'yong dati na mag-i-stay siya sa school ni Eli but the kid herself said na kaya na nito with her yaya and Paul. "Yes, please." "Express?" He smiled at her. "Yep..." nakangiti ring tugon niya. "For the ever busy GM." "Come here." "Hmn?" Kunot noong tanong niya na lumapit sa tapat nito, Nate's table in between them. "A good employee deserves a prize." He pushed his laptop to his side then leaned over his table, almost closing their distance while looking at her lips teasingly. "I am not aware of such," hindi siya umatras. "Wala ata iyon sa employee handbook."
"What was that, Nate?" She asked Nate who closed the room's door behind him. Elisha was now out of earshot as Adam took her with him after much convincing that her mommy wasn't going anywhere. "Can't you stay for Eli?" he asked back. Then he started to gently press a cold compress on her swollen cheek. "You know that I'd do anything for Elisha," mabilis ang tibok ng puso at naiilang sa proximity ni Nate na sagot niya, mas nararamdaman pa nga niya ang kamay nito kaysa sa yelo na idinadampi-dampi nito sa pisngi niya. "Pero ikaw? Is it okay with you?" "What do you think, Hannah?" "I- I can't really tell," amin niya. He sighed before pulling away. "Please do this for Elisha. I want her to be happy," pakiusap nito. "It's not like I can say no. I'm still working for
