The moment I turned around and opened my eyes I knew I was in trouble. I had tried to fight it but my wolf was too strong, too excited by our new mate. She forced my eyes open and when mine met his I was a goner. She howled and howled, yelling MATE over and over with so much joy I was honestly confused. How was she so excited when our last mate broke us to pieces. I was in an internal debate when I saw him take a step forward. I instinctively took a step back.
A low, warning growl came from his chest and I froze in place. My wolf was reassuring me he wasn’t angry but I couldn’t help the overwhelming hesistation. He apologized and tried to explain. I could tell he was holding himself back and that worried me. Did he also not want me?
He extended his hand and introduced himself. I hesitated but eventually gave him my hand and I drew in a breath when my hand met his and I felt the butterflies. Th
When I felt the tears stop I opened my eyes and looked at the three men surrounding me. They all showed concern and love. I squeezed my mate’s hand but before I could say anything the small weight on my shoulder began to move and make the cutest little noises. His head came up and he looked at me and then at his father. A small smile formed when he saw Alexander that melted me heart. My mate was his whole world and I could see the love in his eyes for his dad. But despite his dad being close by on the couch he stayed in my arms. He looked back to me and his small voice asked me as his head tilted to one side, “What’s your name?” He spoke with a bit of a slur and I wasn’t surprised because of his age. It just made him more adorable. “My name is Lorraine, but you can call me Raine if you want,” I told him. “Rainey,” he said in the cutest toddler voice that I had ever heard. No one had ever said
{ Raine } As soon as the door closed I groaned into Alexander’s shirt. I had buried my face here on instinct and instantly found it relaxed me. I could literally stay here forever but I was trying to remind myself I did not know this man and I was still skeptical of whatever this mate bond thing was. Clearly it wasn’t a given and both Alexander and I had been burned before. I felt him hesitantly move his hands from my hips. One landed on my middle back and the other on the back of my head. He stroked my hair a little and I felt him release a small groan at our contact. I was presed up against him, every inch of me touching him and suddenly I was aware of each detail of his body that was touching mine. This man’s chest was solid, not a single part of it was hard as a rock and defined. My face was buried in his collar bone and my hands resting on his pecs. I felt him breath in and out slowly and calmly as he held me but base
{ Alex } Sweet mother of goddess. This woman was going to be the death of me. I obviously slept with Caroline, I actually slept with a few human girls before Caroline as a teenager, but I have never, in my life, been turned on by a woman like this and she is still fully dressed and 6 feet away from me. I knew my eyes were darker once she told me when we needed to leave or she would do something to me we would regret. It was so hot the way she wanted me just as much as I wanted her already and she was showing off her confidence which was making me struggle to hold back my wolf and take things slow. “Now, Alpha, would you mind showing me to the kitchen for a snack?” She had a sly smirk and the sexiest voice when she said alpha and it made me twitch in my pants. She knew damn well what she was doing to me and I couldn’t believe this woman was mine. She stepped out of the o
{ Raine } I was overwhelmed with the idea of belonging to a pack. I’d seen what it was like here. The way people loves and cared for each other and I wanted that. “What is it dad?” I asked as we entered the conference room and closed the doors. This room had sound proofing on the walls that we could see so it was perfect. “Raine, I want to say that I am so happy for you. You and the alpha seem to be happy already and I can tell he will be good for you. I’m very excited for you and your wolf to have a home,” he said with a big smile. “But,” I said, continuing for him. ”Not but, I am very happy. AND. There is something you need to know before you take that blood oath. The alpha and you will each cut your hand and then shake. It bonds you forever to the pack. But when you do this, he will be able to feel your power. Not the wolf kind.” he said, giving me the knowing ey
Before I could knock the door opened and there was Alex with a goofy smile on his face waiting excitedly. I giggled at his eagerness and followed him in. He went behind his desk and pulled out a gorgeous, old knife and laid it on the table. “Tell me what you are thinking? And feeling?” he asked me. “Well, I am nervous. And excited. I don’t know what will happen with this blood oath but I… can’t wait to be apart of something. With this pack, and you. For this to be my new home.” I told him with as much honesty as possible. “Raine, I’ve spent the last 2.5 years, longer if we are being honest, thinking I was going to be alone. Second chance mates are rare. So when Caroline left I resigned to it being just my son and I, forever. And I was ok with that, Cooper is my whole world and I wanted to be present and be his. But when I smelled you today, when I saw you, I felt like the goddess had given me a gift. And I have nev
I slowly got off of him and he wasn’t happy. The pout he gave me made me chuckle. I fixed my wardrobe and he stood, adjusting himself in his pants to look more discreet. I smiled knowing the affect I had on him and as I sat there breathing in new air I was secretly grateful for the interruption. We should probably take it a tiny bit slower. Although I wondered if we would be able to.“Come in,” My mate boomed out.The door opened to a woman in a doctor’s coat. She was probably in her 30s with a kind smile on her face as she stepped in. She tilted her head at me curiously but didn’t’ say anything.”Dr. Moreno, what can we do for you?”“Hello Alpha, I hope I was not interrupting, however I would like to discuss my mate with you.” she said, looking between us clearly knowing that something was going on before she walked in.
“You better call Mom and Dad, like tonight.” “I know, I know, its on the agenda. I can’t tell the pack until I tell them,” I answered. She nodded, happy with my answer. I watched as Cooper slept on Raine and she and Yesenia chatter for a few minutes about her due date, where Raine was from, Raine gave her a brief rundown of her past two days, Matthew and promised to tell her the full story over breakfast one day soon. We walked away and I couldn’t help the joy I felt as the three of us walked to the pack house together. “How many siblings do you have?” She asked me as we reached Cooper’s room and placed him in his bed. “Three. I also have a little brother who is between Yesenia and Anna in age. Antoine is 18 and with my parents on the trip. We are all only about a year apart and have been close my whole life,” I told her. We walked away from Cooper’s room and I showed her the two avai
I watched as my mate shook his head disappointed at the three wolves standing in front of him. He was furious, I could tell that much. He was yelling at the wolves who had their heads bowed. I hadn’t seen this side of him, this was the Alpha side, the tough side and from the outside looking in he was relatively terrifying.I couldn’t make out what they were saying but Nel stood next to Alex with his arms across his chest looking just as livid as Alex. The three wolves took a knee and then ran off after Alex seemingly dismissed them. I watched as Alex let out a string of curse words and turned to Nel. They talked for a few minutes, both still angry it seemed before walking down the field to the other end. It was only now that I saw the rogue wolf at the end of the field in chains. He was practically foaming at the mouth and was yelling profanities at the wolves who were holding him.I watched as Nel and Alex approached. Nel walked
9 years later.{ Raine }“MAMAAAAAAA!!”I released a deep sigh as her loud voice echoed through the house. What now for the love of the Goddess above, I muttered to myself.“Yes mija?” I called out.“Cooper stole my ice cream again!” Isabella, my youngest screeched..“Ok mija, where is he?”“Across the field, by the training house,” she called out and sniffled. She was my baby, at only 7.5 years old. And while her brother was the sweetest and gentlest with her of his siblings, there were extenuating circumstances sometimes, and in this particular one, it wasn’t actually about his sister at all.I walked out to the front door and peered over. Sure enough, there he was. Cooper was 12 now, and standing there by the field building with him was Catalina, the only girl he had eyes for. This was the third time he had taken something from his sister to give to her. It was always the same, Catalina’s favorite ice cream was also Bellas favorite. But I Wasn’t having this at all.I mindlinked the
The thought occurs to me as I watch the breeze continue while Alex tickles Cooper and his sweet giggles float across the wind and make me smile and so I voice it.“Wait, what is the emotion that affects Air?”In all the time I had known and trained with Gus he never once mentioned what his emotion was like my dad and Tellus had. Happiness, Anger, Sadness… what was the mystical fourth one?The softest and smallest smile crossed Tellus’ face as he looked to me and then to my son and finally to my dad who shared the same smile as him.“I didn’t realize you had never asked Gus, I wish you would have. He always had the best explanation for it, the best way to describe it.” Dad said.“It’s love,” Tellus said to me.Love…“Oh,” I said more to myself. Love. I was havi
As we walked away I felt the heartache begin to fade. I stopped in my tracks and I watched as my father and Tellus did the same. “That was fast,” Tellus said more to himself. “Yeah,” my dad breathed out. They both looked at me and noticed my confusion that mirrored theirs, except I didn’t have the answer that they clearly did. “What just happened?” I asked when neither off them offered it up. “What do you mean?” Alex responded with worry etched on his faced. He glanced at me and looked me over from top to toe. I noticed him shift between his feet and then glance toward the direction of the battle, then back to me. “Another was already chosen,” Tellus tells us. “Another Air,” my dad adds as he looks at both of us to make sure we understand. “What? Already?” I asked, shocked. “Wow,
{ Raine }I watched as Alex took off to Rick where I had landed him. That burst of water had been the perfect way to allow Alex the opening he needed to safely approach and challenge Rick. Once Alex and Rick were both shifted and circling each other, I moved my focus to the rest of the fight.I couldn’t help the smirk that formed on my face when I took in the chaos that my fellow elementals were causing. Wolves were literally on fire despite my heavy rains, those tornados from Gus were perfectly placed and Tell was a beast with his powers. I never would have guessed that his abilites could be so effective in a war. Himself and mine seem to be the least deadly, but we were proving otherwise.I heard a growl from the left of me and turned to see a rogue sneaking up on me. I quickly formed a puddle underneath him that go deeper and deeper. It was only a distraction though, and it worked perfectly. He moved his paws un
“You should not have come here.”“You are my daughter, you don’t belong here.” Nora yelled at her. Her voice cracked a bit but she recovered quickly and put up her front.“I belong with my pack,” Raine said with conviction.Nora sneered at her now, “Oh really? And with your… mate?”The disgust in her voice as she mentioned me seemed to make Raine angry.“There is no one and no where I would rather be than with him.” She held her chin up high as she addressed her mother while also keeping a side eye on her mother’s mate who seemed to be tense and uncomfortable.“Fool, they have told you such things. Packs are unforgiving and toxic. Have you forgotten what they did to me? To us?” Nora screamed at Raine.I saw Raine smack her tongue against the front o
{ Raine }I felt a rough hand grab mine as I counted down to 0 along with Alex. I knew from the feeling of fire burning up my arm it was my father. 5 seconds.“No more rogues are moving, over a hundred backed down, but they still have an impressive army. I don’t know what Alex said, but it really pissed off Nora and Rick, I can feel the anger coming off them in waves, even sensing them from here,” I told the room.It was myself, the other 3 elementals, and 5 of the warriors from our pack. We were in a house that was on the packlands, but separate from the packhouse and main area. If they did search for me at the main packlands they wouldn’t find me. This was a small cabin in the woods that Abuelo and Jason’s grandfather had built as a bit of a safe house if needed, but it was mostly used by the Luna and Mona of the packs over the years when they needed some peace. To make it the prime spot t
{ Alexander }I snaked my arm around Raine in an attempt to push back this bristled feeling that was growing every minute that we grew closer to the fight and she wasn’t hidden somewhere. I glanced at my watch for 6thtime this minute.39 minutes.I needed her safe. I needed her gone from here. I have no doubt the rogues will send out spys to see if we are here and if they see Raine they may attack early or worse, follow her to her hiding spot.“Baby,” I said for the umpteenth time. She put her hand on my hand that was on her waist to acknowledge me but didn’t respond to me as she was directing warriors to their positions. She was glorious right now, I took another moment to appreciate her in this role before I sent her away. Her stretegy was flawless, her insight was priceless and I did feel a touch bad that she wasn’t going to be able to be here closer
“They need to know Raine is here, they need to know you want to end this war, and where to meet. I don’t see them backing down from the challenge, they don’t know you have thousands of extra warriors here from our packs the local ones. This should be enough, but bottom line, you say what you need to to get them there,” Alex told him sternly. Jason, to his credit, held Alex’s gaze despite his growing and demanding aura the more he spoke.“Yes Your Highness,” he said with a bowed head. We pulled a phone over to the table and he tried the first number. It rang a few times, but then we got to a generic voicemail. He dialed the second number and after three rings, someone answered.“What?”I sucked in a breathe as my mother’s voice filled the other end of the line. This was it, this was the finally slap of reality. Any piece of me that had still hoped she wasn&
Once we were settled it was a long flight. We stopped in for gas on the East Coast of America briefly and I mindlinked Jason for an update. All our warriors ahead of us had now arrived and they were settled in. Jason was an impressive Alpha, and if pressed I would say that I would trust him to run all of America for me if needed. He was organized, thoughtful, merciful when necessary, and while I hate the word, obedient. He didn’t fight me near as much as the other Alphas still did. He had damn near everything ready for us when we arrived and I thanked him for it.A quick gas up and we were on our way. Raine and Cooper were asleep in the bed in the back of the plane, but I couldn’t sleep. I was mind linking Car and working through maps for tomorrow. It was the middle of the night now thanks to how long we had to fly, it would damn near be morning once we arrived. I wouldn’t have long to get everything in order to attack.I h
