MONTHS EARLIER
Sitting on the edge of the bed, looking at nothingness and at the same time, seeing everything at that point where her destiny was, a couple of tears fell. As pure as the silence, that silence that she lived and in which she seemed to live forever because after that, there was nothing.
It was done, that which she had come to fear so much, that which she had refused so much was done because more than being for her welfare, it had been for the welfare of her grandfather and all his possessions.
The white veil falling to the sides while her black hair was kept perfectly combed as well as her makeup, perfectly adhered to the softness of her young skin. Her small hands still held the bouquet of flowers with which she had to look better with her bride dress.
In her eyes, the sea of emotions that was pounding inside her heart was reflected. She had taken the biggest step and although many people say that the first step is the most difficult, now she realized that it was not so, not always the first step was the most difficult to take, but all the steps she had to take until the end of her days.
In her mind, the images of a lifetime passed over and over again. If her parents were still alive as they had always promised to be for her, none of that would be happening, she would not need to see herself as the biggest failure. A life she dreamed of, today was nothing more than a mirage, a damned mirage that made her happy while it lasted.
She was only twenty and her life was already over. The truth is that it was always finished from the moment that unpleasant news knocked on his door, which became nothing more than a clear hell in which she was going to live for the rest of her life.
“What did you just say?” Crystal asked, getting up from the armchair, the same place her grandfather had asked her to sit.
“Crystal, I really don't have time to discuss this. I already told you and there is no turning back. This is your destiny whether you want it or not," replied the older man in his sixties across from her.
With her legs crossed, smoking a cigarette in front of her, Crystal realized that what her grandfather had told her was just another piece of news. Something that could be as normal for Mr. Adolfo Bennett as asking for the resignation of his employees.
“How can you ask me that, apa?”
“Then what do you want me to say? What's right if the company goes bankrupt just because you don't want to help a little and more than help me, help yourself? In the end, it's all going to go to you, Crystal. I don't know what the problem is.”
Tears came out of Crystal's eyes at once. She knew her grandfather, she knew he was capable of anything to maintain his position in front of the world that looked up to him but the truth is she never thought he would go to such lengths, even asking her to give up her dreams, her life and everything she truly was.
“This is not a fairy tale where the prince and the princess are the only ones who can make their dreams come true. Here the prince doesn’t come in search of his princess, dear daughter. This is real life, take it or leave it, it's as simple as that," said the man getting up from his place.
“I can't do it, Grandpa! Where's my life, my dreams, everything?”
“Marry Brandon Lambert and you won't have to worry about your future because after that, you won't have to lift a finger to do anything.”
“I don't want to marry a person I don't know!”
“I'm sorry, Crystal, it's the rules of living here.”
“Do you think my parents would be okay with what you're doing to me, Grandpa?”
“Do you think they care about you wherever they are? You're getting married in a month. The preparations start tomorrow.” Mr. Adolfo said, caring little for the tears coming from his granddaughter's eyes. His only granddaughter.
How could everything change in a single moment? Even his mind seemed to wander between what had happened and what was about to happen. That had been the price of being born into that family. Her emotions that day had been nothing but a roller coaster. As soon as she thought she could be happy, she realized that it was all nothing but a sham. In her mind the humiliation replayed over and over again.
It was not even ten o'clock in the morning when she was already ready to marry that mysterious being who was going to solve her life completely. Not only hers but also that of her family. Tears fell when she learned that in a few hours she would be married to Brandon Lambert, a cruel man her grandfather admired. He himself had a mission to accomplish in order to be the rightful heir to all that his family had. The Lambert family. A son was the way out, a son that only Crystal Bennett could give him.
Without knowing him until that very day when they got married, Crystal spent her life feeling only the need to die, to die and in that way end it all, with the false promises of her parents and with the broken dreams.
For that very day when Crystal most wished to die at the same time that she saw herself in front of the mirror dressed in white, hope came to her once again remembering only one person, remembering that in her heart, her first love was still alive.
It wasn't until the moment Brandon Lambert kissed her lips in front of the altar after having made empty promises, after having been the one admired for his statuesque male figure until she knew that she was marrying her first love. That childhood sweetheart who one day just walked away, leaving her alone, leaving her in that dark hole where she found nothing to cling to but herself.
Emotion replaced her desire to die when she found out. She had just married the boy who had always been there for her.
Suddenly, all Brandon Lambert could see after kissing her so gently was a smile painted on her face. That couldn't be, he didn't know what she was thinking at that moment but that couldn't be. They were marrying for a contract, no more than that.
In Crystal's mind, the words of the person who was once her first love and who was now nothing more than a lout, kept repeating themselves.
The smile was still on her face as the guests approached to congratulate her. It was at that moment when, in an abrupt and unmannerly way, he went up to his now wife and grabbed her by the wrist, pulling her away from the world that was celebrating the marriage.
“What's wrong with you, Brandon?” complained Crystal as soon as he let her go.
“To what do I owe that stupid smile on your face?”
If his incredible physique had amazed her when she had arrived at the altar, now it made her fearful. The veins in his neck showed how annoyed he was.
“What are you talking about?” Sshe asked a little more sure of herself.
“Never forget, Crystal. Never forget these words because you may regret it: Just because you were the first and the one who insisted the most to give me a son, the son I need, by taking the artificial insemination papers to my grandfather, doesn't mean that you think you are a wife. You are nothing, Crystal, you are nothing more than an instrument that will help me to have what I want. This is a marriage contract, nothing more, nothing less, okay? Never forget my words because otherwise, it can hurt you more than anyone else.”
And without saying anything else, he left, leaving Crystal completely stunned.
The tears in her eyes were the same ones that had not stopped flowing from that moment when he humiliated her.
Locked in that room, she now realized that her first love was no longer her first love.
At the door, a couple of knocks.
“Come in," Crystal said. The tears had already dried on her face.
“Crystal, the bride and groom's ball! They should be there in three minutes.”
“I'm coming.”
And with no more to say, the woman who had gone to warn him, left without even bothering to ask him what was wrong. No one seemed to realize that what she needed most was someone to talk to.
With nothing else to do, she got up from her place, leaving the bouquet aside. She no longer cared about following tradition, all she wanted was for the show to end.
Outside, in the big house where the celebration had been decided. Everyone seemed genuinely happy. With a fake smile, Crystal walked to the center while looking for her husband, who was nowhere to be seen.
Her heart began to pound from one moment to the next. Brandon couldn't leave her there, let her deal with it on her own.
“Dear guests, please pay attention here!” they called over the microphone. “The next piece will be danced only by the bride and groom. A round of applause, please!”
And without wanting to do it, Crystal looked around and realizing that the world was already watching her, she advanced a couple of steps ready to do it for herself. Neither Brandon was so strong nor she was so weak, after all he had said it well, they were nothing more than a counter to each other. weak, in the end he had said it well, they were nothing more than a contract.
And suddenly, the lights in the room went out, suddenly her steps went forward and at the end, a person grabbed her waist from behind, causing her to become exalted from one moment to the next.
“Shh, calm down! Follow my steps,” said that man very close to Crystal's ear. “No one will notice if they keep the lights off.”
No, that person could not be Brandon because the person who had taken her by the waist was an angel who had saved her from that embarrassing moment while Brandon was trying to pull her down.
And on the second floor of that big house, Brandon Lambert watched her smile as she danced.
“Who is that dancing with my wife?” Brandon asked one of his men.
“We don't know, sir.”
A sigh came from deep within him. Something was not right.
That wedding was not the typical wedding where the protagonists danced their hearts out. That wedding was not the typical wedding where the guests could smell the love of the newlyweds a mile away because the truth was that it had not been a typical wedding and much less would it be a typical marriage full of love.As soon as Crystal was taken out of the wedding by her grandfather's men after she found out what had happened, Crystal arrived at the hotel where they were supposed to make people believe they would spend their first wedding night. The road had only served to fill her with courage against what was in front of her. Maybe her life wasn't going to be the same anymore, but she wasn't about to make it any more miserable than it already was.In the room, there was no sign of her husband. The luxuries of that simple room made her think she was already at home living with him.For that night, only one bed.Slowly, Crystal took off her dress and everything that had been worth a fo
Somewhere, surely, the Brandon she remembered from her childhood and part of her adolescence had been lost. Somewhere she had to leave those memories she had of him, somewhere she had lost her happiness and all that she had dreamed of. And being that way, wanting to forget everything, Crystal changed for the dress that remained on the bed. She couldn't deny it, the man still had good taste.Nine thirty in the evening. She didn't show up. He was losing assurance that she would be able to attend this grand celebration. After all, they were husband and wife and as such, they had to behave in front of the world that already saw them and knew they had been married for days although the truth was that they had been married for a few hours. In his mind the last conversation he had had with her and the way he had told her that she should not believe the role of wife even though they were going to live under the same roof. How to do it? He didn't even know how to be a good husband if at the fi
In Wyatt's mind there could be nothing else but that idea involving the woman he danced with in the most relaxed way ever known. Those waves, those vibrations, those emotions he felt Crystal emanate as they danced were difficult to put into words. In Wyatt's mind, how could Brandon have married her? Not exactly talking about her beauty, but what she was by nature. How much longer until the thought entered his mind that she was Brandon Lambert's wife?“Do you enjoy it?” Wyatt asked as he saw her smile. The smile promptly disappeared from her face. If he had noticed that, surely the people around him had too, what were they going to say about seeing a married woman enjoying herself with someone else?“I keep thinking about it, I didn't think Brandon would marry a woman like you.”“What are you talking about?”“Did you see that picture in your room?”Crystal's heart stopped as her steps became clumsy. That man knew more than she thought he would.“What's wrong with that picture?” Crystal
And suddenly, her delicate body jumped as if it were an involuntary movement. Little by little, second by second, feeling herself waking up in the new day, feeling that this was not her place although yes, her little big eyes were opening little by little.Moments from the night before began to come to her mind. Even she could not recognize the place at a glance because that ceiling, those decorations on the walls, those paintings and everything that made that room to be, had no room in her mind to be compared. The truth is that she felt like a guest, a woman who had slept in someone else's house just for one night.Without feeling the time pass, after rubbing her eyes for a brief moment, Crystal sat up in bed as she leaned back against the headboard. It was then that she realized that her dress, the same one she had worn the night before, was on the floor. That way, she finally managed to remember everything from that night. She had slept so soundly that she couldn't even remember wh
Those dreams, those illusions that she once had, those dreams with which she went to bed every night for every time she felt she was getting closer to her goal, today were nothing more than pieces of a life that never saw the light, that simply remained wanting to be just that, a life. The life that was no longer hers because it now belonged to the people who had married her to the person she fell in love with when she was just a child. There was nothing left, nothing left of that life that she had begun to build and that only remained in plans. From her beautiful eyes, tears came out the moment she understood who she was. The pain in the sole of her foot and a little higher up, made her stop almost as soon as she wanted to get up from the floor. She didn't know what hurt more, whether the cuts on her feet or the way that child who was no longer a child had treated her. Like another object, like that glass box, like the broken glass that flooded the floor, she was her. No more than a
“Ready, Crystal, with this I put on your foot everything will be fine. You just have to be very careful when walking," said Sebastian, giving a smile to his friend. She really didn't look the same.“Thank you very much, Sebastian," said Crystal looking at her freshly bandaged foot.“Crystal?” Sebastian called her attention. The moment to ask what she had always wanted had arrived.“Yes?”“Who did this to you?”Crystal smiled, wanting to hide everything. “Me, I… I was cleaning and I dropped that ornament," she pointed to the floor. The truth was that in Sebastian's mind was the idea that she had suffered domestic violence by the person who claimed to be her husband.“Are you sure about that?” Sebastian asked, not very convinced by the words of his friend and patient. He knew how hard she had fought to get to that point and now he was not going to allow a man to come along and make her life impossible. “Crystal, you just got married and even if you didn't, no one has the right to hurt y
Roughly wiping away her tears, fed up with the fact that in just two days he had passed over her like he passed over any of the rugs placed in that house full of luxuries, she went after him. He had to listen to him, she had to make things clear because she was also a human being, a person who needed to be treated as such. There were rules in that house, she wasn't going to fight them because in the end, Brandon was right, their marriage was just a damn contract that she signed without her having the time to ask questions because to her grandfather, she had been nothing more than a damn object, a damn tool that he could handle at will and obviously, at his convenience. "Brandon, Brandon," Crystal called, going after him.And he, without stopping, continued to the room they must share whether he liked it or not.“Brandon,” Crystal continued calling. And without the greatest attention, Brandon stopped more to think about where he had left his marriage papers than about her."What do yo
As soon as her husband came out of there, she was finally able to release the air that was holding inside her. It wasn't that she was afraid of her husband, it was that she didn't know how much longer she was going to endure the same situation that she knew was going to repeat itself for a long time to come.So many words in the air, so many meanings that she could give to everything he said but in the end, she had not read that contract. There was no way to interpret those words when she had not been given the time to read or ask questions. She had been humiliated and would surely continue to be.A few tears came out of her eyes when she saw the dress he had chosen for her. He didn't even like it but beyond that, what about the wound on her foot? If he didn't care what she had to say, why should she care about his orders? She had been hurt because of him, and Brandon had only deigned to ask who the man who had arrived was, but never stopped to think about his words. Brandon was sel
There was only one way for them to come up with a plan. He had to talk to Crystal and tell her that even if that wasn't right, they had to take advantage of the situation and adopt a baby, a helpless son. But they had to talk about that. With Brandon's secretary at his side, she called him."Yes, sir, how can I help you?”"I want you to prepare everything for a romantic dinner today, in the house, I want you to fill everything with flowers, I want you to hire the best chef, I want you to take care of even the smallest detail, today I will have a special dinner with my wife.”“Yes sir.”And without further ado, Brandon left his office. He had so much to fix that night and he had to start by checking the places where they could adopt a child. After all, he was going to be a father sooner than he expected and it wasn't that it bothered him, on the contrary, it was an idea that made him happy. He and Crystal were finally going to be parents because no matter how it turned out, they would r
Among all the things she had thought, all the work that creating that project had cost her, there was only one thing that wasn't a total lie. Crystal wasn't having an easy time. The road was always getting a little more complicated for her and when she felt that she was about to achieve her goals she realized that something had to appear and it was always her husband, the person who had come into her life just to make her happy squares. She was going to come out of all that damage unscathed. She was going to get her life back. After learning from a person she trusted that the professor and the same person who had been in the meetings was looking for her simply to tell her the same thing that Mr. Brown had already told her in the office, she preferred to ignore the people who were looking for her.She would find a way to get Brandon to sign the documents without having to get involved further in a one-time issue.Just as she was leaving Mr. Brown's office, Crystal's cell phone rang ins
In that way the folder was placed in front of Miss Violet, the same one who had not given her name and who was only taking the place of another person. Carefully, Violet took the pen in her hands to put her signature on the documents.“One moment!” Brandon raised his voice.Everything stopped from one second to the next. Silence fell in that meeting room and now the men's gazes were on Brandon, the same one who had stopped the signing on those documents."What's wrong, Brandon?” Mr. Brown asked."At that moment I demand the truth, I demand the presence of the true genius of this project.”Mr. Brown closed his eyes, leaning against the conference table. That was the end, he had done everything he could to help Crystal, but sooner rather than later he realized that no one made Brandon Lambert believe lies."Just as you hear it, you wanted to play with me for a moment, because you already saw that the plan did not work and will not work for them, at this moment I want the real person who
A room full of investors, a room where everyone's words were not clear, there were just a few minutes left before the words would have a special meaning. It was the most important investors that were missing there. Among them Mr. Brown, Mr. Brandon Lambert and Mr. Aguilera. And while Brandon walked through the company's hallways, wearing a gray suit, he spoke with Enrique, the same one who couldn't be on the board."You already know, Brandon, she is a very special woman, don't get yourself killed when there is no need.”Brandon smiled at his friend's words. He seemed to be the most interested in getting that contract and alliance signed. "Please, Enrique, I don't know how many times you've told me this already, I already know what I have to do and what I shouldn't. Don't worry, that contract is signed today.”"Brandon?" Enrique called.“Yeah?”"She is not a very easy woman, you never know what she is going to get, she always has something up but above all, she always knows what to ans
There had been only preparations since the moment she had spoken with Mr. Brown while at the Lambert company the first celebration was about to take place. It was true that Enrique had not been able to say everything that had happened in that meeting, just like Wyatt, from one moment to the next, Wyatt seemed to want to be the one to keep Crystal's most intimate secrets, from one moment to the next he had changed the way he saw Crystal. She was no longer just a pretty girl to him, she was no longer an elegant woman with whom it would be nice to go to prestigious parties, now she was more than that, and everything had changed from the moment Wyatt saw a woman capable of everything to achieve her dreams. Precisely what a man should fall in love with, the intelligence, the personality, the feelings of a woman. Wyatt should stop looking at her if he didn't want to end badly."News about your genius, your star student?" Brandon asked, laughing since it had been a month and a half saying th
With a smile on her face, Crystal took her bag and was accompanied by Mr. Brown went to the exit while they talked about the new plans that were going to be presented at the company and with Crystal's help, everything would be easier. Finally, Mr. Brown opened the door to his office, letting Crystal out with a smile. She had done it, she had finally given her best and now, she was able to see results."Take care, Crystal," Mr. Brown said goodbye."Thank you, Mr. Brown.”If Crystal only knew that not everything that shone in her world could be gold, if she only knew that there was always someone there willing to harm, willing to sneak into her life, if only she understood that in life not everything could be perfect and that the person who had confused her the most was the same one who would make her path the most difficult. There, right in the place where Crystal had arrived at the least requested moment, was where two destinies became one.Brandon, at what point was fate so cruel as t
Mr. Aguilera seemed to search through his thoughts to see if what he was about to do was correct, but that would be the answer to everything Crystal Bennett was asking for. "Bring Mr. Brown," Mr. Aguilera said simply.Crystal smiled, the opportunity she wanted was coming because she better than anyone knew why they called that man."Of course, Mr. Aguilera," said one of the secretaries present."Since you don't want to be the one who buys the key to success, at least I ask you to do something for me," Crystal began.Mr. Aguilera's attention was drawn. "What are you talking about, miss?”"I'm talking about filling Mr. Brown with sincerity about my project, telling him how good it is, how promising it looks in your eyes, telling him nothing but the truth, and making Mr. Brown make his own decision. If he says no to my project, well, I will know how to accept it, as a good loser that I know how to be too, I will know how to accept my defeat.”"And what is that for?”"I simply think that M
Cunning and resentment, what about those two words that come together in a moment of doing? What happens when these two come together? What happens when wind and water become a great team? What many fear is happening. Torment, torment is the name given to the team of two elements that alone have only the power to rule half of the throne in the world of desires while united they are capable of bringing an entire world to its knees, an equally unscrupulous world.Cunning and resentment was all she could be feeling at that moment because while her heart was breaking for that unborn child, much less never conceived.Cunning and resentment were everything in her when it came to recovering the life that was hers. While with tears in her eyes, remembering the humiliation that Brandon, her husband, had put her through a few hours ago, Crystal took the time she needed to begin that day full of opportunities that one day she promised herself.Life was so simultaneous. A world of opportunity on
A laugh grew on Brandon's face when he saw that girl in it. He had won one over Enrique, Brandon had found that girl already a woman.“Crystal,” Brandon smiled as he said her name. Those moments that had hurt the most came to Crystal's mind, Brandon's first glances at Tábata, the photo that he himself had placed in his room to let her know that Tábata was the woman of his dreams, the strength that he used to make the doctors do whatever they wanted with her, really, all of that still worked. Now that she thought about it a little more she realized that there could only be one reason why Brandon had taken advantage of the moment and gotten drunk the way he did. All of that was for Tábata and nothing more than for her. Brandon couldn't see Crystal any differently. Brandon was never going to do it, for him she was just a birthing machine, who was destined to give him a child, who was destined to remain silent and not say anything. Brandon didn't love her, he didn't know what had happened
