FIVE YEARS LATER
My eyes glided over the familiar view of San Francisco as the plane descended, causing my stomach to tie into knots and nausea to hit me harder than a storm.Memories I thought were buried assaulted me like the smell from a lively kitchen only this time, it made my stomach churn. It was supposed to be easy to be back since I thought I was stronger but I guess my supposed new strength was all in my head.I wanted to say that I was back home, but could I still consider this place that was the cause of my nightmares my home?I shivered involuntarily as the plane finally stopped and the door was opened for passengers to exit.I remained seated as the other passengers hurried out of the plane to unite with family members or friends. It felt like I could hear the blood rushing through my veins and I was hesitant to move.I should have allowed Nova to pick me up instead of meeting up at the house. Maybe it would have helped but I needed to do something first.“You’ll be fine” I was pulled from my thoughts as Shiro placed his hand above mine and squeezed lightly to give me the support I needed. I turned my head in his direction to look at him.“Will I?” I was going to allow myself to be vulnerable with him. He was family and he would never look down on me for a moment of weakness.“You held up until now, there is no reason why you won’t be. Besides, I’m here. You know I would never let you fall” He whispered strongly to me with the determination that I could depend on.“I know” I whispered as well before I leaned over my seat to press my lips to his cheeks “Thank you, oniichan”He stroked my hair with a small tug of his lips. Shiro barely smiled and I had gotten used to it so small moments like this meant a lot to us.“Come on, let’s go before the flight attendants kick us out” He teased in a rare moment, and I chuckled. I took the hand he held out for me so we could leave the plane. There was still that knot in the pit of my stomach but it had loosened up, allowing me to breathe easy. The memories had also faded into the background.“I don’t know why you won’t let us hire security. A housekeeper would only be useful for house chores and nothing to protect you” He grumbled as we went through customs with my hands tucked in his elbows.“Because I don’t see the need for them. You can protect me just fine and it would be uncomfortable to have them follow me everywhere plus the housekeeper is good with knives so I’ll be fine” I told him then turned to collect my passport from the woman.“It’s not the same.” He countered and I hummed absentmindedly while I scanned the airport.“The car should be outside” Shiro told me after he had collected our boxes. I took mine from him and we began to make our way outside. The car we rented was where they promised it would be parked and soon we were on our way.“Are we still going there?” Shiro asked from the driver’s seat.My eyes met his disapproving glare in the mirror but I turned away. He knew that there was no going back. If there was, we wouldn’t be here, in this country that I wanted to be far from.We were on our way to GREY to propose my deal to Davian. There was no need to waste any more time. I've already spent enough time leaving those people that hurt me to be happy. The Davian I had met a handful but immemorable amount of time was a bastard. He knew how powerful he was and didn’t hesitate to put you down.I spent months watching every interview he gave, and every conference he spoke in and hated the audacious pride on his very annoying but good-looking face.I could feel Shiro’s eyes on me as he drove and I rolled my eyes but didn’t meet his gaze like he wanted.“Glaring at me won’t make me change my mind, oniichan.” I told him with a smile as I brought up a picture of Davian. In the photo, his eyes were set with intent, gazing into the camera like he knew the effect it would have on whoever stared at it and I hated it but my annoyance for the man would have to be bottled up if we were going to work together.“We can look for another method. I don’t like this plan” I could hear his fingers drum against the steering wheels as he spoke.“Don’t” I warned. I’ve heard enough oppositions from Kenji, his father and Grandma and I didn’t want to deal with his too.“You won’t change my mind if Grandma couldn’t,” I said calmly. I didn’t want to contemplate the other options I had. This would be the most effective and safer for him.“I have to try” He said before he cleared his throat and focused on driving while I went through the file I had on Davian.Shiro had managed to find out that Davian had a burning well of hatred for Blair and Sabrina.Okay, I may be exaggerating it a little bit but he was angry with them because Sabrina had stolen the design ideas from one of the luxury brands Davian sponsored and had showcased it as hers at an international competition which made the company lose face and credibility which in turned made Davian lose a lot of money as their stocks plummeted to an all-time low.The move had been stupid, not that it should be a surprise since they'd never showed an iota of intelligence when it came to business but what had been a surprise was that Davian kept quiet. There was no public address of the situation from him since it caused a little stir which was unusual until I discovered why, proving to me why people regarded him as the devil. It was also what gave me a little tinge of hope that he might respond positively to my request since we shared common goals and I could give him what he wanted.“We are here” Shiro announced and I glanced outside the car windows to see he had parked in a hidden spot at the corner of the parking lot.“Did you make the appointment?” I asked him.I knew I couldn’t meet someone like Davian just by walking into his establishment so I asked Shiro to make it possible to ensure I met Davian today. I didn't know how but I knew he would make it possible.“Yes. The appointment is in ten minutes” He answered gruffly and I ignored the disapproval in his tone.“We are right on time then” I told him with a smile.“Do you need me to come with you?” Shiro asked, already removing his seat belt so he could climb out but I tapped his shoulders to stop him.“No. Wait in the car. It shouldn’t take long” I said.“Are you sure? We don’t fully know who we are dealing with” He said concerned.“I will be fine. The worst that can happen is him saying no” I told him with a grin before climbing down from the car.I exhaled and adjusted my face cap to shield my face better before I made my way into the building. I couldn't risk anyone seeing me now. It was too early to get noticed by anyone. His office was located on the eighth floor and he had a secretary who would grant me entrance to his office. The elevator door dinged as it opened on the eighth floor. I followed the hallway and when I got closer, I heard a noise of commotion from the end.“What do you mean I can't see him? Do you know who I am?” Someone screeched and my steps froze.I could recognize that voice anywhere. Blair.Fuck. I didn't expect to see her here. I took a deep breath and adjusted my cap again. I pulled my scarf towards my mouth so it would shield my identity more before making my way towards the chaos.“I’m sorry. You need an appointment to see Mr Grey” The lady behind the desk answered with a gritted smile as she tried to keep her cool.I was familiar with what she was feeling because I felt the same way. Blair was the most annoying pest I had ever met in my life.“I’m sorry but I'll have to ask the security to escort you out. This is a corporate establishment and you are causing a nuisance and disrupting our work” The Lady said, still trying to keep her calm.“What?” How dare you? Davian?” She screeched just as security pushed past me towards her.I saw her eyes fall on my approaching figure and her eyes narrowed. I made sure to ignore her, confident she wouldn't be able to recognize me before I approached the secretary.“Good afternoon, how may I help you?” The lady greeted with a warm smile on her face, far different from the one she was giving Blair.“I have an appointment to see Mr Grey” I told her with my carefully crafted smile.“Really?” she asked, confused as her fingers moved seamlessly across the keyboards. Davian did not have me on his schedule this morning but he would now.“Yes. I’m sure you can confirm it” I gestured towards her computer.“You really do” She confirmed and I breathed out in relief. I knew Shiro wouldn't fail me but I was still nervous. And I could still feel Blair’s eyes on me as she struggled against the men attempting to escort her out.“Please, come with me” She rose to her feet, adjusted her skirt and made her way around the table.“What?” Blair yelled, “How come she gets to see him and I can’t?”We ignored her as I followed the secretary but Blair didn’t stop there.“You” She screamed and I turned to her with raised brows even though she could barely make out my expression. “Who are you and what’s your relationship with Davian?”I scoffed before turning away and following the secretary while Blair was finally dragged away. I let out a shaky breath and clenched my hands to stop them from trembling.I hated that I felt unstable with that little encounter. I tried to calm myself down.I followed her down the hallway to the large door at the end with the obnoxious title, Director written in gold letters. She knocked twice and opened the door softly before poking her head inside the office “Mr Grey, your 2 o’clock is here”I didn’t hear what the reply was but judging by the way her shoulders tensed, it was not good. He was also not expecting someone. She opened the door wider and gestured for me to go in. “He will see you now”My stomach clenched in anticipation as I stepped through the door that was held open for me. I was seconds to the beginning of my plan. The air in the office was different. The door closed softly with a click behind me and it felt like the air around me became thick with tension or was it just me?The man behind the table was just as he was from the burial only this time there was a visible tick in his brows as he glowered at me.“Mr Grey” I began, ignoring the rock at the bottom of my stomach. I removed my cap and lowered the scarf so he could see my face. Even I wouldn't want to discuss business with someone who was dressed that way.“Why are you here?” His voice was cold as he spoke, leaving no room for excuses or answers.“I have a proposal” That was a stupid start and the brow he lifted agreed with me but I continued nonetheless.“My name is…”“I don’t care about that. What I want to know is how the fuck you manipulated my schedule because I know for sure you shouldn’t be standing in my office like you have something to offer me” His eyes were cold like his tone as he looked me up and down like I was an annoying bug.I could feel my confidence start to waver. “Maybe because I have something to offer” I declared, holding on to my last shred of mental confidence. I won’t lose face in front of him.The smile that graced Davian’s face didn’t meet his eyes. “I doubt you have anything that will be of worth to me”“I have a proposition for you. Let’s get married”Davian’s brows dipped and then his mouth turned down into a frown. I thought he was considering my offer but that thought drizzled out quickly as he chuckled coldly. The atmosphere suddenly felt unbearable but I kept my expression as blank as my emotions would let me. It felt like I walked into the lion’s den and the way out had dissipated into thin air.I would have been scared with the way those menacing eyes were boring into my depths but I came here knowing it wouldn't be easy. The laughter sent a chill down my spine. It was cruel and void of any emotion. He let his gaze drag all over me and I had to fight the urge to cower under his gaze and wrap my hands around myself. If there was one thing nobody had lectured me on and what wasn’t included in the multiple files I had buried under my box about this man, it was how easily he could make you feel stupid and less of a person with just a sweep of his gaze.Anger boiled beneath the surface of my skin at the condescending look in his
I sat stiffly at the back of the car as Shiro drove us to the penthouse. The muscles in my shoulders were rigid, it felt like the stiffness was clawing up my throat almost making it impossible to breathe. Unshed tears made my golden-brown eyes shimmer as I let my gaze trail the buildings passing by in a blur. The words Davian had thrown at me so casually hit me harder than a train wreck and I was struggling to balance myself before I toppled over.I thought I knew what humiliation was after what Blair and Silas did to me, but Davian showed me that it had different flavours, and his version left a bitter and unforgettable taste in my mouth.“I’m assuming it didn’t go well” Shiro spoke, and I met his eyes in the mirror. There was no judgement in his eyes because that was who he was. He would never judge me. We hadn’t spoken since I ran to the car, like a puppy with its tail between its leg. He drove off without any question and I thought there wouldn’t be any.I didn’t even have to conf
A sigh escaped my lips as I dropped my tired body on the soft bed. The mattress was so soft that I sank into it and a satisfied groan followed. Today had been a long and exhausting one.Nova had gone home about an hour ago. Her husband, Samuel had picked her up while Ria had retired to her room since she was going to be living in the penthouse with me and Shiro. For the first time since I arrived, I allowed myself to admire the room’s décor. The room was sophisticated but simple. I wasn't hoping to spend a long time here so there was no need for me to waste money on décor to make the room feel personal.A yawn fell out of my lips and I suddenly became tired. My eyes became droopy but I forced myself into a sitting position grudgingly. No matter what, I couldn't sleep without taking a shower and doing my night-time routine if I didn’t want to wake up with acne the size of my fist.I noticed that the closet door was opened and I could see that my clothes had been hung. It had to be Ria
Davian hasn’t said a word since I arrived and I could sense a little bit of irritation in his posture as he ate. The clinking of our cutlery was the only sound in the empty restaurant.Davian was showing off. That had to be the only explanation as to why he would reserve the entire top floor of one of the most expensive restaurants in San Francisco. And yes, I did my research when he sent me the invitation yesterday.I may have arrived a few minutes late but I didn't think it was something that should warrant such a cold shoulder. His behaviour was slowly pissing me off. He was acting like I begged him to be here.Well, I did but he chose to send me a message for us to meet so I don’t know why he was acting like he would rather be somewhere else than sitting across from me and acting like I didn't exist. The only reason I was biting my tongue and holding back my words was because of what I needed from him. Until I got his name signed on the marriage certificate, I was willing to let
The rage that filled me wouldn’t allow me to close my eyes for a minute of rest and soon it was morning. The audacity to spew the cause of my anguish like it was a page from a cliche book made me want to scream and tear into the sheets wrapped around me.I hated him. It didn't matter that I had been the one to propose marriage but I hated him. The way his arrogance rubs off me and makes me want to spiral out of control.I hated how he always felt like he owned the world. He acted as though no one was above him and even if that was true to an extent, it didn't mean I had to tolerate it but I will.I hated that I had to suck it up and marry him because my revenge came first but I couldn't even make reason with that at the moment. I could still hear that infuriating voice in my head as he laid down my past in front of me like he had every right to. That bastard. He made me lose reason.I forced myself to breathe, to try and expel the anger in my lungs but those grey eyes found their way
I was hit with a sense of Deja Vú as I sat opposite Davian again. The silence was maddening and the only sound was the clinking of our cutlery or rather his as he ate while my eyes wouldn't move from his passive expression. This man kept surprising me each day and today was not an exception.Davian hasn't bothered to look at me since he started eating making me jog back my memories to clarify if he had been the one to invite me out for lunch and not the other way around.“Is the food not to your taste?” Davian suddenly spoke up, disrupting my thoughts as my eyes met his in a short stare down.My eyes glanced back at my untouched plate before they were on him again. “I’m surprised you called me out for lunch. It’s unlike you” I said instead because I still hadn't figured out why he asked to eat lunch together and hadn't said a word to me since we arrived at another high end restaurant.“I had something to discuss and I didn't want to do it over the phone” He said before picking up his
I let out a shaky breath as I exited the building. My eyes caught sight of my outfit in the glass doors and I resisted the urge to smoothen the invisible crease in my white dress because I knew he was watching. I could feel his eyes on me without seeing him. After I walked out on Davian last night, I thought he would end our agreement because someone like him would have limits and it was the second time I walked out on him but it wasn't my fault. He needed to know how to keep his unsolicited opinions to himself.I couldn't hide my surprise when I received a text before I even got into my car to get ready to meet his parents. Just like the rumours, he didn't waste time in getting things done.I liked that about him but it didn't mean my emotions did. I was a nervous mess behind the perfect facade and flawless makeup. I was going to be meeting his parents for the first time and I needed to impress them enough that they'd allow me into their family. I knew how these things work as a mem
“Miss Thompson?” Someone nudged me gently and I was pulled out of my thoughts. I glanced towards the designer, sending her an apologetic smile which she brushed off. “What do you think? You’ve been staring in the mirror for quite some time now” She gestured towards the wedding gown I was currently wearing and I glanced back at the mirror, meeting Davian’s eyes. He kept surprising me every day with his actions and if I didn’t know who he really was, I would mistake him for a gentleman with the way he had been treating me the entire day. First, he insisted we go wedding gown shopping with Harvey and Ira who was the wedding planner Isabelle had hired to help plan the wedding with Harvey and now he wanted to be here like every doting fiancée to help me pick the perfect gown.My head was spinning with the amount of weirdness to his behaviour and I didn’t like the way my heart raced as his eyes swept over the outfit. It was the seventh gown I was trying on and he didn’t look a bit fazed b
Three Years Later:I checked my appearance for the nth time. I was nervous, but I was also excited because today was my baby's first recital.I can’t believe three years have passed since everything happened. My life has been so happy. I can’t ever remember it’s signing my life when I felt this much peace for such a long time.I had nothing to worry about; I was surrounded by people who loved me and supported me. It was insane that I had a life that was so perfect. My phone began ringing, and he picked it up from the table in front of me."Obaasan,” I cried out happily as soon as he answered the call. “I was just going to call you.” I said it with a smile in my voice.“I’m sure you were,” she teased. Ever since I promised to call her one day and I forgot to do so, she never believed me. I told her I wanted to call her.“I promise. I was going to call you because I wanted to talk to you before we left the house,” I said with a pout.“You haven’t left yet?” She questioned me with an acc
“I’ll wait for you by the car." Divine pressed the kiss to my forehead and walked back to the car while I made my way into the cemetery.I haven’t been here since dad was buried, and it was weird, to say the least. I missed him a lot, and I was sorry that I had never visited since the six years he had been here.Maybe I was ashamed because of the hate I felt towards him in the four years that followed his death. It didn’t take long for me to reach this spot where he was buried. Words could not describe the emotions that were flowing through me as I placed the flower on the grave.“Hi dad,” I whispered, and I took a seat on the grass beside his grave. Thankfully, Shiro had paid someone to always make sure that the grave was always clean and well taken care of, so there were no overgrown grasses or thorns on the bed.“I’m sorry I haven’t visited in a very long time. I was very angry because of the misunderstanding caused by Sabrina. I’m sure you must have been lonely.” I’m also cute, wh
I groaned as my eyes opened groggily. The first thing I noticed was that I was no longer in the hospital room.I lurched forward in shock, but my body was dragged back with a force that caused me to look down. I was tied to a chair, and the movement has caused pain to travel up my healing hand.Blood trickled down the bandaged hand, meaning I must have hurt it while trying to move. I winced as the pain from the hand increased.“Can I get a fucking break? I was just shot and now kidnapped.” I cursed and looked to the ceiling, but there was nothing to look at.The roof was falling, and I doubt it would hold if a storm were to happen.“And an abandoned warehouse too,” I scoffed when I took in my surroundings. Judging from the look of this place, I’m sure no one has been here in years.“Aren’t you going to come out, Sabrina?” I called when no one would step forward or speak to me.I wasn’t stupid. I could feel eyes on me, so I knew she and whoever helped her bring me here were in the shad
I could hear the loud beeping, but my eyes wouldn’t open, so I couldn't see where I was. One thing was certain, though. I wasn’t in bed with Davian, as the bed was too hard and the sheets over me weren’t familiar.“Maliah?” I heard Davian whisper. It sounded like he was so close yet so far, and I tried to pry my eyes open, but it wouldn’t budge.“Are you awake? Can you hear me?” He asked again, but this time his voice was more desperate.I was also desperate to open my eyes so I could see the family grey eyes I fell in love with, but my body seemed to have forgotten how to function.“Can you twitch your hands for me, love, if you can hear me? Please, baby,” he pleaded, and I tried my best to move any part of my body.I hated that tone on him. I didn’t like how desperate and almost close to tears he was. My brain wasn’t functioning well, and I was having a hard time figuring out why I was here, unable to open my eyes or move, or even what had happened earlier.“She moved her fingers,”
The pain never came as I closed my eyes and waited for it. What came instead was Blair’s cry of pain, and I heard the gun clatter to the ground.I opened my eyes, and a strangled gasp escaped me when I saw the familiar custom-made tanto embedded in her hand, which had been holding the gun earlier.Blair’s other hand held the hand that was now bleeding profusely as she cried out in pain.My eyes snapped to the door to find my Oniichan standing there with a glare in his eyes and the sheath of his tanto in his hands.“What the fuck?” Blair screamed in pain.Shiro walked over to me and began to search for any signs of injuries.“I’m fine, Oniichan. Nothing happened. You came on time,” I muttered shakily. We looked behind me to see the spot where the bullet had been embedded.“We need to get that out of her hand before she loses too much blood and call the police too,” I told him.I winced as I looked at Blair again. The floor now had her blood as she cried.“What? Are you crazy?” Shiro hi
I stilled at the question, and a cold crept up my spine. My head snapped to the back, and I gasped in fear to see Blair at my back. How did she get in?I said nothing to her at first. I wasn’t going to confront her in front of my babies, so I turned back to them with the most genuine smile I could muster.“Mummy, who is she? Is she a bad person?” Keita asked, his brows in a frown as he kept watching her from the end of the screen.“Keita, why don’t you keep your siblings company? I have to attend to my guest, and I’ll call you back as soon as I finish here, okay? Maybe Dad will be back by then, and you can talk to him too. Is that a good deal?” I proposed, knowing they might protest a bit.“Okay?” He answered with uncertainty, still not taking his eyes off Blair. “Will you be fine, Mom?” He asked again, and I nodded.“Of course, I’ll be fine. I know her,” I said, but they looked like they didn’t believe me. Just like the twins, though, Little Ro had a curious expression on his face as
The impact of the news release was crazy. The effect was bigger than we expected, and the fans were angry. I was actually scared of the uproar the revelation of who Blair really was caused, and I was somehow worried when I saw articles of people demanding her head.“The comments are crazy, Maliah. This is bigger than we expected.” Ria said it with surprise as she scrolled through the comment section.“I know, right? It’s almost as if a saint got disgraced. I didn’t know she had this big of a fan base, and now they’ve turned on her,” I said with worry, and I glanced at the tab in my hand as well.I was also going through the comment sections, and while I was satisfied with the result, it was still alarming at how quickly people turned against others.“Apart from the comments tearing her apart, what do we have? Remember, she shouldn’t be able to recover from this.” I reminded Ria and logged out of the tab before I started gaining sympathy for Blair because of the violent threats her for
A wide grin appeared on my face when I saw Davian climb down from the private jet. He had insisted that he would meet me at home, but I was too eager to see him. I missed him like crazy."I told you not to come," he said with a roll of his eyes as he handed the bag he was holding to the nearest bodyguard, but he had a pleased grin on his face."I missed you," I muttered before I flung myself into his waiting arms. "It felt like you were gone forever," I mumbled into his neck.Davian laughed, but his hands tightened around my waist, and he pulled me closer. I felt his lips leave kisses on my hair and the side of my head."I missed you more, kitten. Maybe we should go together next time?" He offered, and I nodded eagerly.I leaned back to kiss him just as eagerly as I felt, and he groaned against my mouth and deepened the kiss."At least wait until you are home," Kurt mused. I had almost forgotten that he had gone with Davian.Harvey and Isa chose to stay home and wait for Kurt since I
“I still can't believe that Nova was the cause of everything. You can never fully trust anyone,” Harvey said with a shake of her head and disdain in her lips.“I'll be proving her right if I say that after everything you've done for her, but she was cruel and ungrateful to do that. She had a gem of a friend in you,” Isa added."Honestly,” I said with a sigh, “I just want to forget she existed. It's going to be hard, but I don't want to think about or talk about her. I'm just happy that we discovered everything before she did more damage.” Davian and Kurt left for Vegas for a business expo, so I decided to stay with Isa and Harvey for the two days they would be gone since I didn't want to be home alone. “You've been through a lot, child. Whatever it is that's going on, I hope you don't get hurt and keep yourself safe at all times." Isa reached out to grasp my hands and gave them a little squeeze."Thank you, Isa. I promise I won't let harm come to Ronan again because of what I'm doi
