After my morning workout; I shower and dress for my appointment with my psychologist. I know what you're thinking. Why does a hybrid paranormal like myself need a psychologist?
Easy. My dragon is full of anger, rage and hurt. I'm an emotional mess on my own. But add my empath abilities and your crazy is now part of my crazy too. Plus everyone believes I'm likely to bring about the apocalypse.
"You ready to go baby girl?" Blaze my bodyguard asks.
"Sure. Don't want to keep the Doc waiting." I tell him as I walk past him in the foyer to grab my purse and jacket. I walk out to the waiting white SUV.
The drive is quiet and short. I watch as humans and paranormals walk past the SUV while I wait for Blaze to open my door. Blaze helps me out of the vehicle and escorts me through the lobby of the four story building. We get into the first elevator the doors slide open on.
As soon as the elevator doors open on the right floor; we are greeted by a pretty pixie with hot pink lips.
"Hello and good morning, Ms. Thompson. Dr. Trenton is waiting for you. Can I get you anything to drink?" The petite pixie asks, but her eyes aren't even focused on me. Her eyes are glued to Blaze.
I clear my throat to get her attention. She blushes from head to toe. She knows she was caught making eyes at Blaze. Becca, the receptionist smiles at Blaze and flutters her eyelashes. I roll my eyes and shake my head. Becca, has been after my poor bodyguard since my first appointment here. I knock on the door and head into the doctor's office.
Dr. Trenton is sitting behind his desk looking over a file.
"Good morning, Ms. Thompson." The doc tells me as I shut the door. With rolling eyeballs I stride across the room to my usual spot. The big comfortable couch that you sink into when you sit down.
"Remi. Please call me Remi." I tell him with the shake of my head.
"When you start calling me Trent; I'll call you Remi."
"Deal." I tell him as I look out the window at the busy street below us.
"So, I know we didn't really talk about it last session, but the Hybrid Ball is coming up." Trent says eyeing me carefully for a reaction. I raise my hand to stop all the bullshit he's about to spew about how the shit I went through wasn't the fault of the ball. But rather beings with cruel hearts and intentions.
"I'm not going. And you're going to help me get out of it." I tell Trent with a look that says don't mess with me.
"How exactly do you think I am going to be able to help you? What can I say or do to keep you from having to go?" Trent drumbs his fingers against the arm of his chair.
"I don't know how. Think of something. Anything. Just get me out of going to this freaking ball." I tell him. I won't dare to tell him my gut is telling me not to go that something bad is coming my way. I maybe be able to do lots of things, but telling the future isn't one of them.
"Remington, there is nothing I can do to keep your parents from making you go to the Hybrid Ball next week. You will have to go. You will have to face your fears."
"Huh. Face my fears! That ball is a tragedy that should never have come into existence. Face my fears! The closer it gets the harder and harder it is for me to sleep. I face my fears every freaking night. I can't go! I won't go! I'm asking you please, please find a way to get me out of this!"
"I wish that I could Remi. I really do, but at some point. You will have to face this. What's causing you to have such a hard time sleeping? I thought we were past the nightmares. I know we go through a rough patch when this time of year rolls around, but what's different this time?"
"Everything is different. Everytime I close my eyes I see Romeo! I relive the entire night up to the point in which I pass out! It's like I'm physically there. I swear I can feel everything."
"Tell me about your dream. You never seem to tell me everything. Just the easy bits and pieces. In order to heal, Remi; you will have to talk about everything. You will have to let go of the guilt. I'll make you a deal. Do not leave out the hard parts. Tell me everything and I will see what I can do to get you out of this ball."
I turn my head away from him. I can't look him in the face when I have to open myself up like this. I don't want my guilt and shame to be written all over my face when he looks at me. I don't want anyone to see me weak.
"I'm watching my mom lay out my new fancy dress across my bed. She then places my shoes at the foot of the bed. She runs her fingers over the dress to knock out the wrinkles. I'm so excited; I'm bouncing on the balls of my feet. I can't wait to be like the princesses in my favorite cartoons. My twin brother, Romeo, leans against the doorframe covered in mud and grass. He'd been playing football with some of the other shifter children.
"Romie, love. You need to go take a bath and start getting ready for tonight." I giggle when Romie makes a face behind my mother's back. Romie, kicks at the purple carpet of my floor by the door.
"Mom, I don't want to go. Why can't you get Jules to come over and watch me? Karter said his mom isn't making him go." Romeo crosses his arms and gives my mother's back a defiant look. I know this look. It's the one that says Romie isn't about to back down. He's ready to put up a fight.
My mother sighs as she turns to face him. She crosses her arms and matches his look with her own. My eyes shift between the two of them.
In that no nonsense tone mothers have; my mom says,"Romie, I don't have time to argue. Go take your bath and start getting ready. Your tux is already laid out on the bed." Romie squints his eyes at my mother.
"Why? Why do I have to go?" He grumps.
"You and Remi are the guests of honor. You two have no choice, but to attend this ball."
Romie huffs and puffs all the way across the hall to his room. My father runs into my room, picks me up, tosses me in the air, and catches me. I'm hanging over his shoulder like a sack of potatoes when he gives my mother a kiss.
"Need some help with these two hethens?" He asks her as he places me back on the ground.
"Kieran, please go talk to your son. I don't have time to fight with him. I have to call the venue and make sure everything is going to plan. I have to get not only myself ready, but your daughter also. I knew I should've started getting us ready right after lunch."
My father places his finger over my mother's lips to quiet her. "I'll bathe them, and start getting them ready. You go tend to whatever you have to do. Don't worry, babe. I got this." He places a kiss on her forehead, and turns her toward the door.
My mother looks back with worry in her eyes. Because we all know when my father says, he's got this or he candle it; he totally can't.
My father walks into my bathroom and starts filling the bathtub with water. He then proceeds to pour in my bubble bath. I have to tap his arm and take my bubble bath away from him. He then walks out to go check on my brother. I sit on the chair next to my bathtub watching the bubbles rise as the water fills up the tub. I run over and try to turn the faucet to get the water to stop, but my hands are too slippery. The water still flows into the bathtub slowly.
I yell for my father. He comes running in and slips down in the bubbles and water that now coat the floor. I'm doubled over laughing as he slips down two more times trying to get up.
"Princess, this is not funny. Your mother is going to kill me." He says reaching over and turning the faucets off.
"Dad! Hurry! Come here!" Romie shouts from his room. My father slips once again. He uses the doorframe to pull himself up out of the bubble and water mess.
"I definitely don't got this." He mummbles on his way out my bathroom. I hear him yell for my mother, then ask the goddess for strength. He tells my mother what he did not only to my bathroom, but to Romie's as well. My is laughing as she walks into my bathroom.
She cleans the mess while I take my bath. She rushes me over to the shower to wash off all the soap from the bubble bath. I'm wrapped in a soft lilac colored towel then told to go sit at my vanity. My mother begins to blow dry my hair. Once it's dry she starts curling it. Romie, walks in with a pout on his face. He jumps up on my bed and begins to kick his legs. He starts making faces at me in my mirror; while my mom hums a song from the new musical she's going to be in.
"The ball we're going to. It's called the Hybrid Ball." Romie asks.
"Yes." My mother says.
"What's a hybrid?" I ask as my mom turns my head into the position she wants it in.
"A hybrid is the child born from the mating of two different species. For example, the child of a vampire and a Siren. Or the child of a human and a shifter." She tells us as she covers my eyes and sprays hairspray all over my head. Romie, sits up a little straighter; now interested in our conversation.
"Like me and Remi!" Romie says excitedly as he pulls a chair over to where we are. "We are part fae and part dragon!" He is practically bouncing out of his chair.
"Well kind of. You and Remi, are unique even in the world of hybrids." My mother tells us as she picks up another piece of hair to curl. "You two are the first of your kind. A hybrid yes, but different at the same time. You two are part dragon, part fae, and part angel. There are only two of you. There will only ever be you two."
"That's a lot of things mixed together." I tell her turning my head and burning my ear in the process. My mother chatises me for turning my head, and turns it back towards the mirror.
Romeo, makes a face at me. He enjoys the rare occassions in which I get into trouble. Of the two of us; he is the trouble maker.
"Why is there a ball just for hybrids?" He asks. His legs swing bakc and forth. He fidgets with his fingers. Romie is starting to get bored with our conversation. My father always said male shifters are born with more energy to burn off than females. He never told us why.
"Mom, why is the ball just for hybrids?" I ask. Letting her once again move my head where she wants it.
"It's not just for hybrids. There will be humans and paras alike. Those that want to show their support for the hybrid community will be in attendance. Up until the last seven years, being a hybrid meant you had to hide a part of yourself. Humans and paras alike feared hybrids."
"Why did they fear hybrids?" I ask between bouts of choking on hairspray.
"Well my lovelies, everyone fears that which they do not understand. No matter if they are mortal or para. For some, everything and everyone must fit into a certain category. And if it doesn't fit into a certain category then it is feared. Thanks to your father and his associates; laws are changing. Being a hybrid is something to be celebrated. Throught their hard work and determination, paras and mortals alike are seeing that being a hybrid isn't a bad thing and it doesn't make you a bad person."
"So they think me and Romie are bad?" I ask. I watch as my mother fits the small tiara on top of my head. She secures it with diamond hair pins.
"No one thinks you two are bad. Unique yes. Never let anyone make you feel less than or ashamed of who and what you are. Tonight is your night. Tonight we celebrate being hybrids. Tonight the mortal and paranormal worlds get their first look at what royalty will look like in the future."
"Why are we so unique?" Romeo asks.
My mother looks between the two of us contemplating what she will say. "You are the children of Kieran, one of the original dragon shifters. He's the dragon king. The king of shifters. You're the children of Princess Yanessa of the fae realm. Your grandfather was the first archangel created, and the first fall angel. Lucifer, is the creator and ruler of Hell. Your grandmother is Queen Illianna of the fae realm. It's not just you being a hybrid that makes you unique. It's the fact that you carry all of these royal bloodlines in your veins. You also have the abilities of the fae, angels, and shifters. Most hybrids only carry a few of their parents abilities. But you two can wield them all.""Romeo and I just stared at each other through my mirror. We didn't share our mother's enthusiasm. No matter how she spun it; we were different. Different from the mortals, paranormals, and even the hybrids. No matter what my mother said, we both knew being that different wasn't a good thing. We als
My head hangs in shame. Tears cloud my vision. Then slide down my face. Trent passes me the Kleenex once again. "Remington, it wasn't your fault. The blame lies solely on the three males that attacked two young defenseless dragons."I shake my head. "Tell that to the mother that can barely look at me when she's home! Doc, my mother can't stand to be in the same house as me. She's rarely home. Hell, she bought another house and left my father. So, don't tell me; this wasn't my fault!""Remi, I'm sorry your mother couldn't find another away to deal with her grief and guilt; other than to push you away.""Yeah, well it doesn't matter. Soon I'll be out of my parents hair." "Remi, are you having suicidal thoughts?" "Hell no! Why?""Suicidal thoughts can be a side effect of the medications I prescribed for you.""Well, I don't take that shit anyway.""Remi, at least take the sleeping medication. Your dragon is restless. We don't want her to snap like she did last time.""I'll see you nex
By the time we reach the shifter compound I'm calm. Depression and loneliness seeps into my skin as I look at the huge empty house. During the day the mansion is filled with paras moving about. At night with the exception of security, me, Gunner and my father; this place is a ghost town. Blaze opens my door and helps me out the back of his vehicle. He escorts me to the house and opens the door. I head inside and he follows me to the stairs. "Hey, babygirl." Blaze calls out. "Yeah." "For what it's worth. I feel you." He rubs his hand across his chest. Blaze is a vampire with abilities like mine and Romeo. We aren't your usual empaths. We don't just feel emotions. We can feel the physcial pain of those we love. "And I don't think he's stupid enough to let his fated mate slip through his fingers." I nod my head and continue my trek up the stairs to my bedroom. I let the tears I'd been fighting all night quietly slip free. I was finally alone. Truly alone with the exception of securi
This chapter contains triggers. The male holding me up by the throat just chuckles. I'm lifted into the air and flung across the room like some rag doll. My back hits the wall and crumple to the floor. I ball up into myself. Despire takes hold of me. With the shackles around my wrists; I'm as useless as a mortal against these paras. The spelled handcuffs means no powers and no dragon. Even though I have been training with Gunner, Blaze, and on occassion Aiden; I can't fight my way through this. Not with my hands cuffed behind my back. There's only one thing left to do as I watch the male cross the room towards me. I pray. I pray to all the beings I know of to pray to. They didn't help me last time. But hopefully I have proven myself to be a good girl, and they help me this time. This time like last; I would have to such luck. I'm yanked off the floor and thrown at another wall. I hit the wall next to Blaze. When I look up; a male with a golden tooth smiles down at me. The smile is
Aiden's eyes never leave mine. I swear I see tears linger on his bottom eyelashes. But that could just be death playing tricks on me. "Remi!" My father's pain filled voice sounds a million miles away. "You're a dead motherfucker!" My father shouts coming closer into the room. Faces turn pale as Gold tooth raises up off of me. "Kieran, how nice of you to finally join us. Me, the princess, and the boys were just having a little fun while we waited for you." Gold tooth says as he yanks the angel blade from my thigh. Blaze and I scream in pain. My father shoots, but before his bullet meets its mark; Gold tooth lodges the blade into my stomach. I cry out, but no sound escapes my lips. Blaze lets out a blood curling roar. I don't move. I can't. Blood no longer bubbles out of me. Now it's just a trickle. I watch Gold tooth's body hit the floor. Then I close my eyes willing death to take me now. Aiden, apologizes for the pain he is causing me as he rips the knives from my body. I can't a
"Remi, will heal after a few shifts. However, there will be some nasty scars. We did the best we could. But the damage was inflicted by an angel blade. There's just nothing medically we can do about that." The doctor tells someone on the other side of my room door. My father curses under his breath. "There's more Kieran. And either you can tell her. Or I will. I'll let that decision be made by you. But this is something Remington needs to know. It's not something she will want to hear. She may not be worried about it now. But eventually when she finds her fated mate; it will make a difference. This will impact her life greatly.""Just fucking spit it out already." Gunner and my father growl. "Remington, will not be able to have children. Her body wasn't prepared for what happened to it. Between multiple rapes and the angel blade lodged into her lower abdomen; there was some damage to her uterus. There's major scarring. We did the best we could to keep scarring to a minimal amount,
When we pull up to the metal gates of the clubhouse; three big hellhounds come out of the security box. They slowly walk up to Xavier's truck. My heart is pounding. What if they don't want me here? Could I blame them? The answer is no. "Sup, Rampage." The one they call Trojan asks using Xavi's hellhound's name. It also happens to be his road name. "I see you got the package. Open up boys, let them in." Trojan tells the other two. I watch as they push the gates open. Xavier drives down the narrow gravel drive way until it opens up to the paved parking lot of the clubhouse. Cerberus is waiting at the door for us with two other members of the MC. Xavier hops out of his truck and runs around to help me down. The other two members start grabbing my stuff. "What room are we putting this stuff in, Cera?" One of them asks as he picks up two giant flower arrangements. "Rage's room. Where else?" Cerberus shakes her head as she pulls me into her arms."I'm so glad I get to see that beautiful
I'm standing across from Remi waiting for her to make her move. I've got her cornered. Her big violet eyes sparkle in the dim light. I know she's about to make her move. Then she takes with a bout of hiccups and a fit of giggles. Remi crosses one leg over the other. "No...fair...Aiden" She says between hiccups once the giggling stops. "What can I say? I don't play fair little dragon." I tell her as I slowly take a step towars her. Remi squeezes herself closer to the wall if that is possible."I don't know if you noticed. But I'm not the little brat that used to flow you and Gunner around. I'm all grown up now." Remi's hands run over her body and my eyes follow. I groan. Damn, my mate is beautiful. Is what I think, but not what I say to her. "That's debateable. Still seem like a brat to me." Remi huffs and rolls her eyes. All of a sudden, she cloaks herself. All I see is the wall. I wait patiently for her to try to pass me. I keep my hands out at my side. Then I feel it. A change i
"I have a question. How do we know Skullz isn't the traitor and you're both helping Chance and Bael?" Gunner asks standing along side Aiden and Xavier who have taken up the position of blocking me from Vlad and Skullz view. "If we were the one's working for Bael and Chance; your sister and the twins would be on their way to hell with Bael. Not sitting in a room specifically designed for her to give birth comfortably. I wouldn't have invited you all here to figure out our next move or even told you we are her mates as well. If I was conspiring against you."Skullz stands there with his head hung low. When he raises his head his eyes lock on mine. I see the questions in his eyes. Do I trust him? Do I care for him as I always have? Can there ever be more between us? The answer is yes, I trust him. Skullz has been a part of my life almost as long as Aiden has. Skullz has proven time and time again he would lay down his own life for mine. I don't have to question his loyalty or devotion.
I shove away from Skullz. Remi yanks me into her side pleading with her eyes for me to calm down. "Talk." I demand staring Skullz down. "The first time I scented my mate was the night Remi was attacked. Her seventeenth birthday. Her scent was strong, but it was mixed in with yours. I was sure I was mistaken. Especially with the way you were acting. And everyone saying that Remi was your fated mate. I mean there was no way she was my mate if she was your fated. So, I thought what I was smelling and feeling wasn't right. The more time I was around Remi, I knew she was my mate. I never said anything or came forward because she never showed any signs of feeling the same. So, again I was confused. Vlad here picked up what was going on with me at 318 for casino night. He was having the same problem. Neither of us wanted to step on your toes. Neither of us wanted to force anything with Remi. Remi and I are so close because of the bond we share. Not just because we're friends. She's my mate
When I walk back into my bedroom, everyone is here. I can't believe that my kidnapper called in my calvary. Tears cloud my eyes as I rush over to Aiden and my babies. I hug them as tightly to me as I can. "I can't believe he called you. He said he would. He did." I mumble into Aiden's chest. The twins begin to stir and whine a little because I'm squishing them. One by One my family passes the twins around. Aiden and I look on with pride. "So, what's their names? Remi refused to tell us until you got here." Kallista asks Aiden bouncing on the balls of her feet. She's dying to take my son away from his father again. "Ashton Romie Ramos and AshLynn Yanessa Ramos." Aiden says finally passing Ashton back around the room."Those are perfect names." My father beams with pride as he holds his first grandchild. AshLynn squirms and we all hear a noise and my father cringes. "I think she left her father a surprise." Kieran says handing my daughter to her father. Aiden looks lost as hell. I b
It's been hours since Remi and the others went missing. My phone keeps vibrating in my pocket. When I finially pull it out to check it; it's a number I don't recognize. "This is Aiden. Speak." I growl into the phone not at all worried about how I might come across to the person on the opposite end of the line. "Aiden, it's Vlad. We need to talk. It's about our mate. Remington." "She's mine! Only mine!" I growl into the phone. "No she's not. I've gotten her somewhere safe. The twins are safe. At least for now. There's a traitor walking among you. He has Blaze. I got to the scene just in time to get our mate and the other females to safety. They're all here. I'm sending you the address. Bring just the ones you know beyond a shadow of doubt that you can trust. I'll explain everything once you get here." Vlad hangs up leaving me speachless for a moment. I snap my head up looking at everyone in the room. No one here would dare to double cross me and Remi. Flashes of a soft pale yellow
I'm in the middle of a meeting with a vendor for 318 when a flash of images fills my mind. Gunner and Weston rush into the office shooing the two males from the booze delievery company out of the room. "Blaze and Kane's vehicle was found on the side of the road smashed to pieces. No sign of either one of them. Tianna's car was found a few feet away down the small ravine. We gotta go Aiden." Gunner says helping me out of the chair. "Remi was in labor. Where's Remi, Tianna, and Kallista?" I ask forcing myself to finally move. "They were taken. We think Blaze and Kane are on their trail. We don't have all the answers. Xavier and Skullz are at the scene now. Come on! We're going to catch the fuckers scent and go after them." Weston says. I point over at my truck and throw Gunner my keys. It feels a little awkward to have him here. But since Doc and Waylon got him from under that spell Mace casted; he's been trying to do everything he can to make up for the damage he feels he caused. D
Kallista calls Aiden, but doesn't get an answer. I continue to do breathing exercises. "Where's your go bag?" I point to the bag next to the couch in the little sitting room of our suite. Kallista helps me waddle across the room. I have another stabbing pain in my vag and stop walking. I cross my legs and pray the twins don't fall out. "I know it has to hurt. But we have to move. I called Dr. Williams. She knows we're on our way." I nod my head at Tianna, but the pain is too much. Blaze flashes into the room and picks me up. He carries me down the stairs through the house to the garage and puts me into Tianna's car. He pushes the seat all the way back; then leans the back of the seat as far back as it will go. "Follow me. Kallista, keep calling Aiden and Xavier. One of them has to answer. I'll call Kieran. Remi, keep doing your breathing exercises." We all nod our heads and he closes the door. We follow behind his SUV. We're just past the clubhouse when a huge truck crosses over in
The day after my zombie moment is peaceful. Tianna, Kallista, and Aiden's sister, Trinity all come over to keep me company while Aiden works. I feel horrible about all the time and hours he puts in between the mechanic shop ran by the hellhounds and 318. I try to keep in touch with Shade as much as possible to see how things are running and to help out as much as I can. She's training someone to take over for her because she is also going to have to leave in a few weeks. Aiden tells me he has everything under control, but I still worry about my business going up in smoke. I'm about to fall asleep during movie number three when I hear Aiden's heavy foot steps stomping up the stairs. Instead of turning to come to our room he heads towards the nursery. I realize the banging and racket coming from that side of the house has stopped. When I move to sit up all three of the females laying in my bed jump up. "What's up? What's wrong?" They yawn and stretch their sleeping asses out. "Nothin
The grumpy old fae answers on the first ring. "What now Aiden? You have my ass so busy I had to hire another crew to take on some of my other clients." Amos grumbles. But if I say I'm hiring someone else for a job; he bitches my ass out and insists he's the one doing it. "I need the twins' nursery done. Like yesterday." Amos huffs and puffs. I hear him whistle as he flips through the pages of his daily planner. He grunts acting as if he will be too busy. I know what he's doing. He wants more pay for the perfection and rush job only he can do. "I'll pay you double the agreed upon price. Remi, could have the twins any day now. We need it done and fast. And we both know; only you can do what we want done as fast as we need." I listen to him tapping his fingers on his desk. "You don't have to pay me double. Just the original quote plus half that. I'm fae. We both know I can have that nursery done with the snap of my fingers. Besides you and Remi are good people. I'm only gonna cut yo
"Okay, Remi. Tell me what's going on." Dr. Williams says as she pulls out a few hand held machines, a measuring tape and her stethoscope. She lays them on the bed as I explain what's going on. "I started having pains. They're not contractions because they're sparatic. They don't last long. What hurts the most is; it feels like the twins are about to come falling out my hooha." I pant as I continue to try and breathe through the pain in my vag. Dr. Williams lifts my shirt and tucks it under my tits. She measures me, takes my blood pressure then heads back to her bag. Sitting beside me on the bed she squirts some gel on my stomach and begins using a probe wand looking thing on my stomach. When the sound of my baby's heartbeat fills the air I know what this machine is for. "Ordinarily, I'd do this down at the office. However, since we're doing a house call today. I'm going to have to do it here. Remi, I need you to remove your pants and panties. I'm going to check to see if you're dia
