Chapter Seventy Three

Ryan’s Pov

I watch Karl pacing around the room, his laughter echoing eerily. He attempts to justify himself, claiming sincerity in his feelings for my mother. "Isn't it funny how when I actually tell the truth and I'm sincere, no one believes me? I was being sincere. I told you I love your mother, and she was the only thing I ever wanted, but if you don't believe me, then maybe she never did, or maybe I had a hard way of showing it."

Annoyed,I scoff and roll my eyes. I retort, "Sincerity doesn't erase the harm you've caused. With the way my mom always talked about my real father, she never loved you. My mother never loved you, and deep down, you knew it. You just refused to accept it."

Karl, now seated, grants me dubious freedom to move within the warehouse grounds but insists I cannot leave. "I can't let you go now, but you're free to roam around the warehouse grounds. I won't stop you, but you can't leave now."

Tears well up as I plead, "Why can't I leave now? I just want to go hom
