"Why didn't you mark me?" I inquired, confusion evident in my voice.
"I want to do this the right way," Magnus replied, his gaze fixed on some distant point. "We'll announce our bond tomorrow and have a proper mating ceremony. How does that sound?"
I nodded, a smile playing on my lips. I snuggled closer to him, relishing the warmth and safety of his arms.
"That's perfect," I whispered, contentment washing over me.
When I woke up the next morning, Magnus' side of the bed was empty, as though he had never been there. The lingering scent of our passion filled the air, and I found myself revisiting the memories of the night before. The day had just started, and our love story was unfolding.
Little did I realize that the challenges and adventures we would encounter were not yet complete. Our journey had only just begun, and I was eager to discover where it would take us.

Present Day
Magnus appeared vastly changed from the person I once knew. His mere presence demanded attention, sparking a torrent of hushed whispers and comments upon his arrival.
Remarks about a man bold enough to return to the pack after exile. The murmurs and gazes were impossible to overlook, yet Magnus seemed undisturbed.
"Leave immediately, while I still consider sparing your life," Lucas cautioned, his voice tinged with anger.
Magnus' nonchalance was infuriating. "You're not really this delusional, are you? What makes you think you have the ability to kill me?"
A guard began moving towards Magnus from behind, but he diffused the situation with a mocking remark. "Instruct your man to step back, so I won't have to pin him to the wall. It's an unnecessary waste of energy."
Lucas reluctantly signaled to the guard, who withdrew, eyeing Magnus warily. Tensions were escalating swiftly, and it was evident that the situation could take a risky turn.
"I have come to challenge you to the leadership of the clan."
The hall fell silent, and I was as stunned as everyone else. Challenging Lucas to a duel could only lead to one outcome: one dead alpha and another taking his place.
Lucas studied Magnus, a calculating gleam in his eyes as he assessed the potential threat. It was obvious that Lucas didn't want to risk embarrassment and death.
"That is a bit too ambitious of you," Lucas sneered. "You think you can just walk in here and demand a challenge?"
"Yes," Magnus retorted, "Because I know you're too weak, too coddled."
Lucas' anger flared, his neck veins standing out angrily. He was getting blinded by rage, while Magnus remained calm and rational, folding the hands of his shirt negligently.
"Weak, impulsive, and unfit," Magnus taunted.
The chaos unfolded, and fear gripped me tightly. The once joyful celebration turned into a fierce battle as Lucas transformed into a wolf, clashing with Magnus. Tables and chairs were destroyed in their wild fight.
Time felt never-ending as Magnus clearly dominated the battle, playing with Lucas like a cat with its prey. The tension rose when Magnus brought Lucas down, and the air was heavy with the scent of blood.
In a desperate attempt, Lucas' loyal men charged at Magnus, and Jaxon, standing with Magnus, fought alongside him. I was terrified so I tried to hide, watching my father, the Beta, also caught in the war. I didn't want to get involved in the battle.
The intense conflict continued, and when Magnus overpowered Lucas, a chilling silence followed. Lucas' loyalists were defeated, but my father was spared by Magnus. There was grief in the air as Alpha Lucas lay defeated, his era coming to a harsh end.
The atmosphere in the pack square was filled with uncertainty as we gathered. Magnus Kade, taking charge, sent fear through us. Our faces were sad, and we wondered what he had in store for the pack that had turned away from him.
When Magnus arrived at the Pack, he came in with a cold look and never spared me a glance. His eyes were on Alpha Lucas. The recent fighting had ended, leaving an uneasy quiet. Magnus grabbed my father, making him kneel in the square.
"Listen up, members of the Brown Pack. I'm Magnus Kade, your new Alpha. Your loyalty lies with me now," he said, his voice cutting through the tense air. The pack bowed, a usual sign for a new Alpha.
Anxiety ate at me, especially for my father, as Magnus's plans remained hidden.
Magnus's command sliced through the charged air, "Throw him into the dungeon."
The guards, like shadows of impending doom, seized my father, and panic surged through me. In a desperate plea, I ran to Magnus, my voice cracking as I begged, "Please let him go." But Magnus, wearing a newfound hatred in his eyes, turned to me "Get your filthy hands off me", he growled, callously pushing me away.
Then came the chilling decree that echoed like a haunting melody, "From now on, you're my mistress, Audrey." Shock gripped me, and I stammered, "What?" His cruel grin persisted, and with a heartless command, he ordered, "You heard me. Follow me." Dragging me towards the foreboding pack house, Magnus's grip was a vice, and the weight of his words bore down on me.
Tears clouded my vision as I grasped the harsh truth, I was just a pawn in Magnus's elaborate revenge plan. The pack's rejection and my defiance had forged him into an unyielding force, and now, I stood on the brink of reckoning with the consequences.
Our journey to the pack house felt like descending into shadows. Magnus's grip grew firmer with every step, a vivid emblem of the tightening hold on my life.
His countenance, once a comforting presence, now radiated a malicious satisfaction, and his eyes, once filled with warmth, transformed into pools of impenetrable darkness. The pack square, once a symbol of unity, now observes the consequences of Magnus Kade's uprising, a rule propelled by vengeance and molded in the furnace of rejection and betrayal.
Inside the pack house, the air was heavy with an oppressive silence. Magnus's satisfaction seemed to intensify as he led me through the cold corridors. The walls echoed with the hollowness of my footsteps. The pack house, once a sanctuary, had been transformed into a fortress of my captivity.
Guiding me into a room, Magnus asserted his control with undeniable authority. The coldness of space echoed the coldness within my heart. "You're going to stay here now, and I'll do with you as I please "
Days went by, filled with the dull routine of being alone and the constant replay of my own thoughts. One morning, I walked into the gardens, hoping to find comfort among the greenery. Out of nowhere, a voice broke the silence, catching me off guard."Hey, Audrey, right?" he said, smiling at me."Yeah, that's me," I replied, turning around to see Jaxon, Magnus' ally, the Alpha of the Blue Moon Pack."How are you holding up?" he asked, looking concerned."It's been tough, you know? But hey, I'm surviving," I said, trying to keep things light with a small smile."Surviving is a good start. I'm Jaxon, by the way," he introduced himself in a friendly way."Nice to meet you, Jaxon," I replied, feeling a mix of curiosity and caution."Umm, where are you headed?" he asked, still looking concerned."Nowhere in particular, just taking a walk," I said, glancing around."Is it okay if I join you?" he asked politely. I shrugged, trying to seem indifferent, and said, "Sure."As we walked, Jaxon's
Another night, another nightmare. I woke up once again with a start. To be fair, I had no right to call my blissful memories with Magnus a nightmare. But it always ended with him accusing me of betraying him.Since I was up already, I decided to take a stroll in the garden and hope the scent of fresh leaves would lure out Silver. I was due for a run in the woods, but after yesterday's incident with Magnus, I didn't want to push my luck.“What's happening?“ I noticed activity in the house. I pulled aside one of the omegas in the pack house.I could tell she didn't want to talk to me, but I was still their Alpha's mistress. “Tell me.“ I commanded with a confidence I didn't feel.“Alpha Magnus wants to see everyone in the square.“ She said curtly before scurrying away.I could tell Magnus wanted me to be late for the meeting, so he could make a fool of me in public. I was once the only woman in his eyes. Tears welled up in my eyes at the unfortunate change in our relationship.I could s
CHAPTER SEVEN.MAGNUS' POVHis question caught me off guard. Why does he want to know about Audrey? I hope for his sake he wasn't getting any idea about Audrey. She was mine!“Why do you ask?“ I said in a hard tone.“Nothing.“ He tried to cover his curiosity with nonchalance, but I knew better. “I just want to know why you made her your mistress while you still sneak around with other girls."“What I do in my free time is none of your business.“ I set him straight. “We have an alliance. As long as I'm not doing anything to jeopardize our alliance, you'll keep away from what's mine. Audrey is none of your business.““Chill out, man!“ He laughed and flopped down on a seat. “It was a harmless question. I have a little sister, you know? She reminds me of my sister, that's all.““Hmm.“ I gave him no response after that. Audrey was the love of my life, there was no doubt of that. Yes, we were mates, but I'd like to think that we had a connection aside from the mate bond. I would still love
ALEXA'S POVTHE NEXT MORNING:The car dropped me off in front of a magnificent building. I assume this is the pack house. I was told I could find my brother here.“This is your stop.“ The driver muttered. I carried my things and alighted. As expected, I was greeted with stares. I am a beautiful woman and I pride myself on that fact.“Hey, you.“ I pointed to one of the omegas cleaning up leaves in the compound. He rushed over quickly. “Where is Alpha Jaxon?““I'll take you to him.“ He bowed and offered to carry my bag, but I'd rather my arms fall off than let his dirty paws near my bag.“Just take me to him.““He's in here.“ I nodded and shooed him off. I knocked and heard a gruff response. That was not my brother. I sashayed in, and I was immediately arrested by a pair of curious gray eyes watching me. For a moment, I lost my hearing and forgot to speak.Luckily, my brother came to my rescue.“Alex!“ He stood up from opposite the delicious man and hugged him. I robotically hugged hi
AUDREY'S POV. After the conversation I overheard, I locked myself in my room until I could think of a plan. Another part of me was hoping Magnus would send for me and explain himself, but he didn't.That night, I made a decision. I was going to leave Magnus. I won't ever stop loving him, but I am done being his doormat. I sought out Jaxon. He's the only person that can get me out of this hellhole. He's an Alpha too, so I'm sure he has somewhere I can stay hidden. “Audrey ? What are you doing here?“ He was visibly surprised to see me.“Can I talk to you?““Sure.“ There was no hesitation in his voice. I suspected he had feelings for me but this just confirmed it. He was the only one that actively made an effort to speak to me. “Come in.““I need your help,“ I said bluntly.“Anything. What do you need?““I need to leave this place.“ He went still for a few minutes.“What…what do you mean?““I mean I need your help with running away from this place. You're the only one that has enough r
AUDREY'S POV.“Magnus? Why is he calling you?“ I instantly went into panic mode.“Relax.““No.““Audrey, calm down. There's no way he's found out already.““Yeah?“He quickly parked the car before receiving his call.“Magnus, what's up?“I couldn't hear what he said, but he relaxed, letting me know that it was not what I was thinking.“No, she's okay with it. Yeah.“He dropped the call.“So?““It was just some pack business. He wanted to know if Alex was okay with the whole marriage shenanigan.“Oh, I shouldn't have asked. “Are you okay with it?“ I asked.“Yeah. I mean, they're both unmated, and they'll figure it out if they both ever meet their mates.““I see.“ “Plus, having a Luna would help solidify the alliance and let other packs know that he's not alone. It's a win-win for everyone.““Nice.“ Luckily, he stopped talking about it.*****Roughly 20 minutes later, we got to the house, and it could easily be missed if you weren't looking for it. “Here we are.“ He parked and retrie
MAGNUS' POV“It will be done soon. You can rest assured.“ I escorted one of the elders of the pack out of my office.“Thank you.“He came to remind me that I still don't have a Luna or a Beta. That was the wake-up call. I needed to stop thinking about Audrey. I buried myself in work instead. I sorted the affairs of the pack and made changes when necessary. The next thing to do now is to choose a Beta. That morning, I sent out a message to the people that a contest was going to be held in the evening to choose the Beta.Evening rolled in fast, and I could feel the excitement palpable in the air. I could see the different families prepping their candidates for the contest. They bowed as I took my seat and I could see them eyeing Alexa curiously as she took her seat beside me.“Aren't you going to introduce me?“ Alexa whispered.“I'm only going to introduce them to their Luna, and you're not the Luna.““Yet,“ She added. “I'm not the Luna yet.“ “Let's get this started, shall we? Let all
THE ENGAGEMENT PARTY“Such a great party, Alpha Magnus.““Thank you for inviting us.“ I recognized some of the people who came over to where I was standing with Alexa in my arms.“Magnus !“ A sweet old woman from The Blue Moon pack came over. “Mrs T. I didn't know you would make it.“ The delight was evident in my voice.“And you, dear, congratulations.“ She turned to Alexa. “Snatching the eligible Magnus before anyone. Good for you. I don't see your brother anywhere.““Oh. He had some things to take care of in the pack house.“ Alexa said, as politely as she could.“Hmm. Well, I'll see you later.““Speaking of your brother, he didn't tell me he had things to do. He just sort of disappeared into thin air.““Well, that's my brother for you. Always doing as he pleases.““Weird.“I want this party to be over soon, but werewolves will party until the last drop of alcohol and I don't see the alcohol finishing anytime soon. I paraded Alexa around and introduced her to everyone who looked imp
