Task Impossible

Killian's POV

Just as I stood by my window, my eyes fixed on the view outside, hoping and thinking that my mate would return, the sudden knock at the door immediately pulled me out of my deep thoughts, making me turn my gaze to the direction of the door.

“Come in!” I commanded, and without hesitation, Beta Dayton pushed the door open and walked into the room, his eyes meeting my back the moment he entered.

I couldn’t help but sense an aura of tension and concern in the air as he entered the room.

There was no doubt that he cared about me. It was clear he didn’t like the fact that I was silent and appeared rejected, because that was exactly how it felt and looked.

Without a mate for so long, and yet, I wasn’t sure where she was.

“You’re still thinking about her, aren’t you?” Beta Dayton’s statement immediately jolted me back to reality.
