She stared up at me, her chin raised in defiance. The flames in her eyes did not vanish as we engaged in a heated stare-down. All of a sudden, she slammed her forehead against mine, startling me.

"What the hell, Raelynn?!" I growled, and she blinked at me like a child caught with jelly all over her mouth. In that instant, my frustration died off. So I pulled away and straightened.

"Fine. Put on your seatbelt," I said, and she glared at me before grabbing her seatbelt. I slammed the door shut and settled down in the driver's seat.

"Since when did you get so petty?" I asked, and she scoffed at me.

"I've always been petty," she mumbled. I blinked at her, surprised by the sudden flutter in my chest when she made that statement.

"What happened to Raelynn, who was always calm and cool headed?" I said, and she turned to look at me, a smirk curling her lips.

"She died a long time ago," she replied, and I looked away from her, tightening my grip on the steering wheel.

RAELYNN I stiffened when Kyan's lips touched my cheek. He slowly pulled away and gave me a smile, his gaze filled with warmth."We should hang out sometime," he said, and I flashed him a smile."Maybe."When he took my hand and lowered his head to press a kiss to the back of my palm, I couldn't help but smile. He was such a charmer."Are you usually like this with every beautiful woman you encounter?" I teased, and he cracked a smile."No. Only to an exceptionally gorgeous woman who goes by the name Raelynn," he replied, and I chuckled."I should get going now. I had a great time tonight," I told him, and he nodded."Let me walk you to your car." The words had barely left his lips when I felt a familiar presence behind me. Turning around with a start, I came face-to-face with Rai. His face was devoid of expression, but his eyes told a different story. He was mad."Hello, Raelynn," he droned, and I heaved a sigh. I should've known that one way or another, I would encounter him at

RAELYNN "Is everything alright?" I looked up at the sound of Judy's voice. She was sitting up on the bed, her messy blonde hair framing her face. "Maurice just called me. Apparently, my dad is in a critical condition," I told her and she frowned at me."Something smells fishy about this," she stated."You think so?" She nodded."I have a feeling it's a trap of sorts," she stated and I nodded in agreement. Either way, I needed to find out what was really going on."You still have to be careful. Who knows what they're planning?" Judy said, her tone clipped. She seemed truly annoyed. I couldn't help but smile. "It's not like they can plot something grand in a place like the medical centre," I said and she sighed. "Fine," she mumbled. After getting dressed, I promptly left for the medical centre and made inquiries to locate my father. Sure enough, he'd been admitted in one of the wards. When I walked in, I found Maurice sitting by the bedside with a solemn look on her face. M

RAI My father was all smiles the moment he set his eyes on Raelynn. She beamed at him and took her seat by his bedside. It was almost impossible to tell that a couple of minutes ago, we had been at each other's throats. "I was so relieved when I heard that you'd returned, my dear," my father said. "It's good to see you again, James," Raelynn said and he grinned at her. "I heard about what you did for me. Thank you for saving my life," he said and she chuckled."I was only doing my job," she replied. She was clearly being modest about it. "I owe you an apology," my father started to say and Raelynn rose to her feet with a look of disapproval on her face. "You did nothing wrong," she said and he heaved a heavy sigh. "Clearly, I raised my son wrongly,” he stated and I rolled my eyes, folding my arms across my chest. There he was again. He was just as dramatic as ever. "If you would forgive him for everything he did to you, would you accept him as your mate again? You see, I fe

RAELYNN Theo slowly released his grip on Rai's shirt and hurried over to my side, his brows furrowed in concern. "I'm alright," I said, slowly rising to my feet. Rai stared at me, his burning gaze locked with mine. I lowered my stare to his elongated claws, tension gripping me as I acknowledged how deadly they looked. I'd never seen him so riled up. "Put away your claws, will you?" I said through gritted teeth. Without a word, he turned away from us and started to make his way down the hallway. Then he halted. He kept his gaze fixed on the floor in front of him. "I'm sorry. I wasn't thinking straight," he said, clenching his fists. Blood dripped from his palm as his claws dug into his flesh. Swallowing hard, I watched him make his way towards the staircase, disappearing past the door. "He's a mess," Theo commented. My stomach tightened as unease washed over me. I hated to admit it but Theo was right. Rai was a wreck. Did it make me feel bad for him? Only a little. "What'

IZZY Several Years Ago, "What's that?" I asked, glancing at my brother who stood in front of his open locker, his gaze fixed on what appeared to be a love letter. It was the first time I'd ever seen him smile at the sight of a love letter."Do you know who wrote it?" I asked, nudging him on the side. He shrugged, refusing to avert his gaze from the paper in his hand. "She has always been so obvious about her feelings," he commented."So, you'll ask her out?" I said and he winced. My eyes widened. My brother, the perfect Rai Vidal was clearly nervous about asking a girl out. "This is insane. You're actually nervous," I said and he slammed his locker shut, shoving the letter in the pocket of his pants."It's none of your business. Why don't you run along?” he said and I chuckled."She's such a lucky girl. Most girls suffer from unrequited love. It's both painful and sweet. But what's truly sweet is having mutual feelings for each other," I said and he smiled. "I'l

RAI As soon as Izzy left my room, I suddenly felt drained and regret sank into me. I knew she truly cared about me, but I couldn't bring myself to accept it because I knew. I knew I didn't deserve to be happy or cared for. I was better off embracing my own karma. I didn't want to get my hopes up. Returning to my bed, I sat down, burying my face in my hands. My phone buzzed and I picked it up from the nightstand. Raelynn had just sent me a message. It read:'Listen to whatever Izzy has to tell you. She cares about you. Also, make sure you set up an appointment with a healer. You're not in good shape. Don't ignore it or it'll only get a lot worse'I stared at the screen of my phone in disbelief. "What's it to her anyway?" I muttered. Glancing outside the window, I took a deep breath. Perhaps, Raelynn was right. Maybe there was something wrong with me. Closing my eyes, I tried to get myself to relax. An image of Raelynn's face appeared in my mind's eye and I sighed. Was it re

RAELYNN "Why are you really here? Why did you return after five years? Who the hell are you?" Rai demanded, his voice laced with irritation. I wondered why. We'd always been hostile to each other but it seemed to have become much worse. "I already told you. I only returned because you asked for my help," I said and his gaze darkened. "Are you sure? Are you certain that you did not show up just to exert your revenge on me?" He demanded and I scoffed, picking up my bag from the couch. "Is this really why you called me to your office? To accuse me? You're just as shameless as always," I said, and he narrowed his eyes at me."What? Shameless? Stop trying to change the topic. Admit it, you have malicious intents and --""That's enough," I spat, tightening my grip on my handbag. His expression faltered as I approached his desk and halted right in front of it. RAI Rosy cheeks and bright chestnut eyes. I doubted that I would forget how she looked tonight. When I leaned in with the intention to kiss her, Kairos growled in my head in anticipation. He had pushed his way to the surface and was eager to mark her. But I knew better. She wasn't my mate. Not anymore. The loud honking from the car parked behind us snapped me out of the haze that had kept me irrational. So I slowly pulled away and cleared my throat. Without a word, I turned on the ignition and pulled out of the parking lot. Raelynn remained silent as I continued to drive. She kept her face turned away from me as she gazed outside the window. Her shoulders were slumped and her overall body language indicated how exhausted she was. "Raelynn --" I start to say and she interrupted me without looking at me."It didn't happen. Nothing happened tonight. Let's keep it that way," she said in a monotonous voice. Clenching my jaw, I sharply exhaled through my nostrils. The bitter burn in

RAI I awoke to the sound of Raelynn throwing up in the bathroom. Concerned, I got out of bed and walked towards the bathroom door, just in time for her to step out of it. With her hair pulled up into a messy, she appeared to be totally out of it.Her weary gaze met mine and my heart sank. She looked way too pale. "It's probably just something I ate," she said to me, flashing me a tight smile. Raelynn leaned into me as I pulled her into my embrace. "Come on, let's go back to bed," I said and she nodded. I led her to the bed and she laid down, curling up against me. "Everything is going to be okay, right?" She asked. "Yeah," I whispered. In a short while, I fell asleep and dreamt. When I awoke a couple of hours later, I sat up in bed in panic, remnants of the terrifying dream I'd just had lingered in my mind.Sucking in a sharp breath, I stared down at my hands, an image of Raelynn's bloodied form appearing in my mind's eye. RAELYNN White hot pain invaded every fibre of my being and I clenched my teeth against it, struggling with the weight of my magic. But suddenly, I was reminded of my mother's words. I needed to embrace my magic and become one with it. Once I accepted the pain, a wave of heat leaked into my veins. Power pulsed inside of me and exploded. When I opened my eyes again, I felt invisible. Nadia was stumbling down the corridor, limping. Although I wanted to chase after her and rip her apart, I felt the stronger urge to see Rai again. Rushing past Nadia, I headed to Rai's ward without breaking a sweat. Once I rushed in, I was greeted by the sight of Rai sitting up in bed. His eyes widened when he saw me. Relief sank into me when I noticed that colour had returned to his face.Drawing in a sharp breath, I hurried to his side and embraced him. "How are you feeling?" I whispered, stroking his hair.He pulled away enough to look into my eyes with a gentle gaze. "I feel... perfectly

RAELYNN I clenched my fists as I watched Rai head towards the staircase. He was trying so hard to pretend that he was perfectly fine but I could see right through him. He seemed to have forgotten about the fact that I was a doctor. Every slight tremor that racked his body was a sign that he wasn't feeling well. With my senses in hypermode, I could even detect the strain in his breathing. I waited patiently, hoping he would eventually cave in, and turn around to confess the severity of his condition. Instead, he continued to push forward. Angry tears clouded my eyes. Did he not trust me? Why wasn't he saying anything? I wondered, my insides twisting up into angry knots. "Stop," I droned, my patience wearing thin. His muscles stiffened with tension when he halted. Slowly, he turned around to look at me. My heart sank when I saw how bloodshot his eyes were. He probably didn't know about it. "It's no use hiding it. I can...I can tell..." I blurted out, my voice quivering."Yo

RAI Few Hours Ago, "You're late," Nadia said as I sat down beside her in a dimly lit bar. She was wearing a mini black dress tonight with her long hair pulled back into a high ponytail. I glanced around, but found that we were the only ones in the bar apart from the bartender. Nadia must have rented the bar for the night. "Well, I'm here now, aren't I?" I said and she reached out to take hold of my hand, gazing into my eyes with a stifling intensity. I knew she was casting a spell on me. I felt it build up inside of me, lashing against my strong will like a stubborn wave. Eventually, she eased up on me and leaned in to plant a kiss on my cheek. "Did you meet her today?" She asked and the spell swelled to the surface, attempting to stop me from lying to Nadia. However, my will was stronger. Refusing to show the pain it was causing me, I kept my expression schooled and downed a glass of tequila. "I have better things to do. She doesn't deserve my time," I drone

RAELYNN Power pulsed inside of me, clouding my senses. I had never felt my wolf so strongly. It was exhilarating. Knowing that Rose had approached me on purpose and had lingered around me right up until this moment made me pissed. I concluded that she was involved in something shady. Since I didn't know exactly what her deal was, I was even more pissed. "Go straight to the point, Rose. No, wait. Is Rose even your real name?" I hissed and she grimaced."I never lied to you about my name," she said and I hissed at her, annoyed."How am I supposed to believe that?" I demanded. Rai grabbed my hand, entwining my fingers with his. When I looked up to meet his perturbed gaze, my frown faded. "I'll tell you everything but we can't talk right here. Your enemies might be listening in on us right now," Rose said and I sighed, bringing my free hand to my temple."Let's go in," Rai suggested and I glanced at him, instantly recalling that he was supposed to meet up with Nadia. "I can

RAI Five Years Ago, I stormed into my bedroom and paused in the centre of the room, freezing as a familiar scent wafted into my nostrils. Raelynn's scent. It was all over the place. It reminded me of the brutal decision I'd made a couple of hours ago. I closed my eyes, and all I could see was her tear-filled eyes. I rubbed at my chest, willing the ache to fade away. The door creaked open and Nadia sashayed in, butt naked. There was a glass of wine in her hand. She swayed her hips from side to side and joined me on the bed, gulping down her wine at once. I sat up slowly, my body feeling heavy. "You did the right thing, you know? I'm so proud of you for not letting her walk over you," she said, bringing her lips to mine. I closed my eyes and was once again, reminded that she didn't taste like Raelynn."I want you," she whispered in between kisses, fumbling with the buttons of my shirt. I was drunk, but it wasn't enough to drown out the guilt that was raging inside of

RAELYNN "Come on, let's go. Can you run?" He asked softly. Steeling my resolve, I nodded once. Together, we both hurried away from the building. There was a black SUV waiting by the corner. When we got to it, Hunter opened the door of the car and I sat down on the passenger seat. He joined me shortly after, settling down on the driver's seat. A lump formed in my throat as he manoeuvred the car out of the parking space, my gaze resting on Rai who had suddenly run into the side walk, his chest heaving. Looking away from him, I folded my arms across my chest and leaned back on my seat. "Hold on, okay? I'll get you out of here soon enough," Hunter said and I released an exasperated sigh. For a few seconds, a thought crossed my mind. Was I really doing the right thing? It wasn't okay to just walk away from the chaos but I couldn't help it, I valued my own peace of mind. "Are you alright?" Hunter asked when we were a good distance away from the paparazzi. "I'm fine," I muttered,

RAELYNN When Rai showed up in the dining room with a worried look on his face, I knew that something was up. At this point, it felt like a never-ending saga. He sat down on a chair and the kids greeted him with cheery voices. He beamed at them, his gaze softening. He was such a natural when it boiled down to interacting with our kids. Moving over to his side, I placed a hand on his shoulder and leaned closer to him. "Did something happen?" I asked and he flashed me a tight smile. My heart sank. Whatever had happened seemed to be far worse than I'd imagined. "I got a call from Jared--" he was interrupted by the sound of my ringing phone and I glanced at it, puzzled."It's probably a call from the medical centre," he told me and I grabbed my phone from the table. Rai was right. It was a call from Rose. Swiftly picking up the call, I lifted the phone to my ear. I could hear the wailing of sirens through the phone."Doctor Lynn, it's me, Rose," my assistant said, her voice qu

RAI Every single fibre of my being wrestled for control over the spell that had kept my mind captive. It killed me to watch Raelynn's beautiful eyes fill up with tears and terror. The more I tried to fight the spell, the more it's grip on me tightened. Suddenly, Raelynn stopped struggling. Then she reached out to touch my face, her teary eyed gaze meeting mine. "It's okay. I won't hold this against you," she choked out and I pulled away from her, stumbling across the kitchen to slam a hand on the wall. I could hear Raelynn coughing behind me, struggling to catch her breath. My chest tightened, angry tears pricking my eyes. 'Kill her!' An angry screech invaded my senses, sending a jolt of pain through my skull. 'Damn you,' I thought, doubling over as the pain worsened."Rai?" Raelynn said as she approached me. I shook my head frantically, mentally pleading for her to maintain a good distance from me. When she continued to approach, I knew I needed to leave. However, before
