EMMA’S POV
“How is that possible? Jeff, I don’t want to have anything to do with you not to talk staying in same apartment as you,” I retorted, blaring fury obvious in my face.
“Emma, you don’t have a say here, I own you and everything that is in you,” Jeff replied with a proud expression, his two hands elegantly pocketed in his trouser.
“ Are you kidding me? Seems like you forgot something. We are fucking divorced and you have no control over me and let me tell you something, I have no intention of being together with you, not now or later,” I retorted sharply.
This statement from me angered him and pissed him off, “ can you listen to yourself speak? It's an order from me, if you think it's too much for you to agree to, get yourself out of my property,”
His response was like a knife driven to my heart so I didn't bother to reply him, I swallowed hard to hold back the tears that threatened to drop from my eye. This is the man that I have loved and respected a lot.
I wiped my eyes and turned back, I soullessly walked away from his front while different thoughts run across my mind, ‘ Who should I run to?’
The only person that came to my mind was Mrs. Williams but she is just my boss and to top it all, I just resumed work.
With this, I shunned off the idea of going to her, the only spare option for me now is to return back to him.
I paused in my stroll and released a heavy sigh “Okay Jeff, I will stay in your house but under one condition.”
“Which is?” Jeff questioned without hesitation
“ I will have my freedom and I will not be subjected to your orders. I have my life to live and my kids to take care of now, I won’t be subjected to you in any way” I laid out my condition
I have been through hell for years and starting the same life will be a very disastrous decision to take.
“I have to get back to work, I didn't inform my boss before I left work so I have to take my leave now, " I said to him and made to leave but was stopped by his voice
Jeff stood up from his seat and stretched forth his hand which a brown folder consisting of documents laid, waiting for me to sign. Sweat covered my hand as nervousness took over me, I reached out my hand to collect it and didn't waste time in reading through it.
My eyes ran across the document and I instantly banged the folder hard on the table, “ You must be kidding, Right? What exactly do you want from me? Why are you bent on ruining my life? after all that you made me pass through not to talk of the constant humiliation.” I barked at him, passing out all my aggression through my speech. I threw the remaining documents at him and left his office.
I ran all the way back to the office, hoping that my attention hadn't been called for. I rushed inside and was about to sit down when the secretary dropped an envelope on my desk, gave me the instruction to read through it and attend to it immediately.
I was still breathing heavily from the way I ran which was making me sweat profusely in a well air-conditioned office. I was occupied in self thought that I didn't notice when Sabastine entered and even sat in front of my desk while waiting patiently for me to get out of my confused state.
After loosing all his patience, he banged my desk to jot me out of my thoughts, his action looked brutal but was successful in making me reinstated, “ is everything okay Emma?” He asked and I rolled my eye inwardly at his seemingly nice actions. Such a two faced sword
“ Hmm... I’m perfectly fine,” I replied, trying to fake a cheerful expression.
“ You are fired, though I already told you but you refused to heed and even failed to play my tune.” He mocked
“ Now, If you would excuse me, I need to go,” that was the only response I gave him before I left
I boarded the next cab to pick my twin at school without saying any word to my boss or confirming the content in the envelope.
“ Hello mum, how was work today?” The twins asked simultaneously as they snuggled close to hug me.
I was depressed and devastated but had to put up a smiling face for my kids.

“ Good morning, Mrs Williams, I am so sorry that I left in a hurry yesterday, I got your message and I am here to do proper handing over while I try to pick up the pieces of my shattered self.”
“ Who is doing all these to you?”
I didn't reply her as I was too reluctant to speak, “ it's okay if you don't want to talk about it, you can always confide in me if you need any help,” she said and I felt so grateful for all she has done for me.
“ I am sorry ma'am for dragging you into my personal messed up life issues. It's all my fault,” I pleaded with a bow
I was expecting her to chastise me next but her actions left me dumb-founded because all she did was to cleared her throat and tell me to take a sit.
I was really disturbed and thinking if taking Jeff's offer will make any difference, “Emma…Emma,” Mrs Williams screamed, her last call made me shiver and it was then that I realized that I was lost in thought.
“ I can see you’re not in the right state of mind, meet me up at an address, I will send for you tomorrow for us to reach a conclusion on what exactly is going on,” she concluded and sent me off.
It was a long night, i couldn’t help but to roll over my bed. Different thought clogged my head, my life will be so miserable if i allow Jeff use me for the second time. Staying under his roof will make me his slave forever and my kids will forever be unhappy knowing Jeff as their father.
“ Next morning,”
The alarm rang and i rushed to prepare my kids for school and also prepare for the meeting between Mrs. Williams and I.
I dropped at the front of a tall building as directed by Mrs. Williams, ushered in by the security who directed me to the CEO’s office.
‘ Good morning ma, fear grip my heart as i heard a thick voice behind me dressed in a dark track suit offering me a seat. She came in few minutes later, looking so radiant in her red dress, Emma i will not take much of your time, could you please go through the documents and sign?
“ Please do not take my job from me, i need it to take care of my kids, ” i pleaded.
“ My heart skipped, am i dreaming, i stared at the papers in front of me and the content in it. ” I don’t really know what to think again, within 48 hours i have been offered different document to sign by different parties.
The document was written in a clear language and i was amazed and confused, why is she doing all this for me?
Your flight is 12 noon tomorrow and the driver will take you to your new office.
I went straight to pick up my twins for us to prepare for the trip ahead. I was so happy but also worried, my countenance changed at same moment, my head keeps banging and same question spill out of my mouth. Why is she transferring me to head her other company when have barely worked 48 hours with her?
We were waiting patiently for the driver, i checked my wrist and it is almost departure time and am getting worried as the driver is yet to come pick us to the airport.
My phone beep and it was a mail from Mrs Willians telling me to get a new cab to the airport as soon as i can. “ My heart pump fast, and i immediately grab my twins and board the next cab to the airport.
“ What is going on?” Jeff showed up unexpectedly and Mrs williams is sending me to head her new company after the whole drama i displayed few hours of employment.
We waited at the departure waiting area for us to board our flight, my phone started ringing. I checked and it was Jeff calling, my heart skipped and i looked around to be sure he’s not anywhere around. Fear grip my heart as i sight a young and elegant looking man, his hand in his pocket proudly ordering his boys to search around.
“ Abort the trip and safe your family he said with mockery smile on his face. “ The words hit me like stone and i was almost missing my flight. I miss my step and i fell of the stairs like a pieces of stick rolling down the stairs.
I held my tears from dropping, but the pains i felt force them out profusely. My kids are already on board and i was about to enter the plane when Jeff hit me with the last straw. Emma i wish you will meet your parents alive.
I was dumb-founded, confused and do not know what to do. Could this be one of his trick to get me off the plane and enslave me again?
“What will happen to the agreement i had with Mrs. Williams?” Alot was going on in my head and suddenly the air hostess tap me to come on board and the journey began.
Jeff was fuming and disappointed, he couldn't believe his eye, could Emma disobey me even at the mention of losing her parent?
“Did my dad considered my feelings before selling me off to Jeff just for him to save his indebted company crisis?” He should bear the consequences of his action.
I was at the airport waiting for the driver to pick me and my twin to our new apartment but he had a little delay.
“Mom, why are we changing environment? Are we running away from dad?” My kids asked.
“It was an hectic day, my bones ache as we were going all about arranging and decorating our new apartment.”
I was exhausted and nod off like a log of wood. It was a beautiful saturday morning and i rested enough. The beep from my phone woke me from sleep and it was a call from mrs williams.
“Hello Emma, hope you settled in well?” Check your mail for your first task as the new director and i will also be there for proper introduction.
I literally jumped out of the Cab and rushed inside the tall building, but to my surprised everyone was on standing ovation ready to welcome me.
Good morning, Miss Emma, “I’m completely blown away!”. How did they know my name? How did they know i would be coming in this morning?
I nearly missed my steps as i walk up to my office. The moment i sat on my desk, powered on my device i saw Jeff’s mail threatening to make life miserable for my family due to the breach of contract between the two families.
“Not again, i will not let these distract and destroy my great day. I ignored the mail and focus on the task ahead of me.
“ Hello, a young and nice looking tall man with a smiling face paraded himself in my office, can i have a seat? “ he said.
I was carried away with his look and before i could say a word he placed his lips on my cheek.
You look gorgeous.
“ Who the hell are you? “ i ask with a flaming eye.
Emma’s Pov"Emma felt her heart pounding in her chest, each beat like a drum echoing her terror. Her mind raced in disarray, struggling to find a way out as panic set in.”What is going on here? “ Liam burst into laughter.” Who do you think you are? You should appreciate a man of caliber trying to roll with low-life like you.Emma’s face brightened up and pretended to be fine, is this what have been brought here to tackle? My heart still pounding slowly in my chest, but was something in me force a smile out of my face.I don’t mean to be rude but i just do not appreciate strangers touching me inappropriately. Hello, Emma, meet Mr Liam the CEO Liams Consult, you will be working directly with him here, said Mrs Williams as she rushed into my office. I don't think i can work or award this company any contract, said Liam and banged his feet angrily on the tiles. "She let out a long sigh, the excitement draining from her face, replaced by a look of deep disappointment.""Please, I’m be
Emma’s Pov“ I am suppose to meet a potential new client who had expressed interest in partnering with our company. I am used to these meetings, but what is Sam doing here?” However, i was not prepared for the shock that awaited me when the door opened, and my secretary ushered in a figure from the past that have searched everywhere for to no avail.“My breath caught in my throat as Sam stare round the office.” He is looking really different now, his hair streaked with hints of gold but the only difference is the status. The Sam i know was not rich, he was just a common driver.Years ago, Sam had been my secret lover. He was the P.A and also Jeff’s driver, he was there for me anytime Jeff is maltreating and bullying me. We had been seeing each other secretly and promised each other the world. We planned to elope with Sam, but Jeff has eye everywhere and he knew about all our plan. Sam was picked and since then we lost contact and eventually Jeff served me a divorce papers.
Sam’s Pov Sam's revelation left me speechless. I knew Jeff had a hand in Sam’s disappearance, but hearing it from Sam made the whole scenario more clearer. “My fingers trembled as i held the glass of wine, staring at Sam’s earnest face.”“Kidnap?” I repeated in disbelief, my voice barely above a whisper. “Jeff... he paid you off?”Sam nodded, the weight of the years reflected in his tired eyes. “It wasn’t just the money, Emma. He had power, influence. My life, my family’s life... they were at risk. I didn’t want to leave you, but I had no choice.”The anger simmered beneath Emma’s calm exterior. Jeff’s cruelty had no bounds, and she had lived for years in the shadow of that manipulative man, thinking I had abandoned her. She turned away, trying to process the flood of emotions, hurt, betrayal, anger, but also a lingering affection she didn’t want to admit.“So, you just left?” i said quietly, though my voice was edged with bitterness. “No goodbye, no explanation? You let me believe
I ended the call, and my heart keep racing. I placed the phone gently on the table, my fingers trembling slightly. The decision was made, but the weight of it still hung over me. Why does he want to see me?How do i find the right words to explain everything i had been through the past years without reopening old wounds? The past had always been complicated, layered with mistakes, misunderstandings, and moments that i have never fully healed from. The evening fell into a quiet dusk, I was standing outside the café where we agreed to meet. It was a small place on the edge of town, one that held a certain charm with its dim lighting and vintage decor. I deliberately chose the cafe , a neutral ground, somewhere neither of us had history.I pulled my coat tighter around me as the cool breeze brushed against my skin. My eyes wandered to the door every time it opened, and with every second that passed, my nervousness grew. Finally, Sam arrived. His tall figure, familiar yet somehow diffe
Emma nodded, her mind racing. "I don’t even understand why Mrs. Williams promoted me after Jeff’s threats. It doesn’t make sense."Sam glanced at her, his brow furrowed. "Maybe it’s a test. Or maybe Mrs. Williams knows something we don’t."Emma swallowed hard. The weight of her new position was starting to settle in, but the mystery behind it gnawed at her. "We need to figure out what Jeff’s endgame is," she said quietly. "Why would he threaten me? What does he want?"Sam paced the room, his mind clearly turning over the possibilities. "We need to dig deeper into Jeff’s connections. If Mrs. Williams promoted you, maybe she sees you as someone who can stand up to him. But we need to be prepared for whatever comes next."Emma stood up from her desk, determination in her eyes. "You're right. Let's start investigating. We need to know what Jeff’s planning before it’s too late."Just as she spoke, her phone buzzed. A message from an unknown number flashed on the screen; "You're in over
Just as Mrs. Williams closed the drawer, she heard a soft knock on her door. Emma walked in without waiting for any response. Her face was pale, her hands clutching her phone tightly. We need to talk," Emma said, her voice barely steady.Mrs. Williams gestured for her to sit, amazed at the sight of Emma’s shaken expression. She wasn't expecting her to come forward so soon.“What is the matter, Emma?”“I got a message,” Emma said, trembling slightly as she handed the phone over. She read the message with Emma sitting across her table. "You're in over your head. Walk away, or you'll regret it."Mrs. Williams's face was neutral, but inside, her mind was racing and her heart was pounding. She had expected Jeff to make a move, but not this quickly. Emma wasn’t ready for this—not yet. Still, there was no turning back now.“Emma, I need you to stay calm,” she said in her most reassuring tone. “This message is meant to scare you. It’s exactly what Jeff does—he tries to intimidate anyone who g
It was late in the evening, Emma sat in her living room thinking about the threat message earlier. I tried to focus on my kids, but the threat keep ringing in my head. my phone buzzed, and hurriedly pick to check if it’s another threat. It was a news app notification, flashing a headline: “CEO Jeff Anderson Accused of Fraud.”Her heart raced. It was the same man she had been warned about. What had he done this time? Was he really capable of more than just intimidation? She opened the article with trembling fingers. Suddenly, a thought came to her mind. What if i turn the tables? What if i gathered evidence against Jeff instead of waiting for the next threat? But then the fear crept back in, was that not too risky?Getting evidence against the man i had kids with.Emma was lost in thought when her phone rang. It was Mrs. Williams. Emma answered, feeling a mix of anxiety and determination.“Emma, I just wanted to check on you. How are you holding up?” Mrs. Williams asked, her tone wa
As the car speed off from the office, Emma’s mind raced and her heart pounding continuously with possibilities and fears. She couldn’t stop thinking and the image of Jeff lurking in the shadow, a threat she had underestimated for too long.“Where are we heading to?” she asked, trying to keep her voice steady. “To a safe house owned by a friend. It’s discreet and secure. We’ll lay low until we figure out our next move.” Your kids are in safe hands too, you need not to worry, Mrs Williams said. Emma nodded, her heart still pounding. The thought of hiding felt terrifying and but necessary. She glanced out the window, watching familiar streets blur past, feeling a mix of sadness and relief. Everything was changing so fast. When they arrived, the safe house was unassuming a small, well-kept bungalow nestled in a quiet neighborhood. Mrs. Williams led Emma inside, and the warm atmosphere calm her nerves.“I’ll be here with you,” Mrs. Williams assured her. Emma pulled out her laptop, eager to
Emma’s POVThe warehouse loomed ahead, its rusted metal walls towering over us like the remnants of a forgotten war zone. The air was thick with tension, the weight of what was about to happen pressing heavily on my chest. The dim street lights cast long shadows across the cracked pavement, making the entire place feel colder, darker, more ominous.I tightened my grip on my phone, my heart pounding as I dialed Sam’s number. It rang once. Twice. Then his voice came through, laced with smug amusement.“Well, well, Emma,” he drawled, as if he were expecting my call, “Took you long enough. I was beginning to think you’d lost your nerve.”I exhaled sharply, keeping my voice steady even though my fingers trembled slightly, “This is your last chance Sam. Come out now, surrender. It’s over.”There was a pause, then a chuckle.“Over?” He repeated the word like it was some kind of joke, “You really think you have me cornered? That I’ll just walk out with my hands up, begging for mercy?”I force
3rd Person POV The air inside the apartment was thick with tension, the kind that clung to the walls and seeped into every breath. Jeff sat at the dining table, his hands pressed together, fingers interlocked, staring blankly at the scattered notes in front of him.Emma stood by the window, arms crossed, her eyes tracing patterns in the city skyline beyond. Ronan leaned against the counter, arms folded, silent but ever watchful. The three of them had spent hours going over their options, trying to find a new angle, a fresh lead, anything that would give them an advantage over Sam, but so far, they had nothing. It had been days since Sam’s last demand and the eerie silence that followed had only made Emma more restless. He had told Jeff to sign over Anderson Industries, a demand so outrageous that she had expected immediate retaliation when Jeff refused to comply, but instead, nothing. No threats. No follow-up. No new moves. Just silence.Emma wasn’t sure if that was a good thing or a
Emma’s POVThe tension in the apartment was thick, heavy like a storm cloud that refused to break. The air buzzed with almost tangible electricity as Jeff and his team methodically prepared for the mission.Guns were checked, magazines were loaded, and communication devices were tested. Tactical vests were strapped on, each movement precise, and rehearsed. No one spoke unless it was necessary, their focus absolute. This wasn’t just a simple operation, it was a mission to bring the kids home and every man in the room understood the weight of that responsibility.I stood on the sidelines, watching them move like a well-oiled machine, but unlike them, my thoughts were restless. My instincts, sharp and insistent, screamed that something was wrong.I couldn’t pinpoint why but there was an undeniable sense of unease curling in my gut, growing stronger with each passing second. It wasn’t just nerves or anxiety about the danger. No, this was different. It felt like a warning, a whisper of imp
Emma’s POVThe silence between Jeff and me stretched long and heavy, thick with unspoken thoughts and the weight of the impossible choice before us.The air in the living room felt stifling, the tension so dense that even breathing felt like a challenge. I sat on the edge of the couch, my fingers gripping the fabric tightly as I tried to keep my frustration at bay.“We need to go to the police,” I said finally, my voice firm, leaving no room for argument.Jeff didn’t react immediately. He stood by the window, his hands shoved into his pockets, staring out into the darkness. The city lights cast a soft glow over his features, but even in the dimness, I could see the rigidity in his posture, the way his jaw clenched as if he were physically holding back his response. Then, finally, he turned to me, his expression hard, “No.”My brows furrowed, “No?”“No,” he repeated, this time with more force, “We’re not going to the police.”Anger flared in my chest. I shot up from the couch, taking a
Emma’s POVI stared at my phone, my fingers gripping it so tightly that my knuckles turned white. The silence in the room was suffocating, thick with fear and uncertainty.Every passing second without a word from Sam felt like another needle pressing into my skin, another breath stolen from my lungs. It had been more than twenty-four hours, twenty-four hours of waiting, of pacing the room, of replaying every worst-case scenario in my head until my stomach twisted itself into knots.Across the room, Jeff stood by the window, his hands resting on the windowsill, his back rigid, his posture unyielding. I could see the tension in his shoulders, the barely contained rage in the way his fingers twitched every few moments. His phone sat on the table beside him, useless. There had been no ransom demand, no threats, nothing but a cruel, unbearable silence.I hadn’t slept.Every time I closed my eyes, I imagined Jason and Anna trapped somewhere unfamiliar, scared, crying out for me.The thought
Sam’s POVSam leaned back in his leather chair, fingers tapping rhythmically against the surface of his desk as he listened to his assistant rattle off updates. The muted sound of the city hummed outside the large glass windows of his office, but his focus was solely on the chaos he had orchestrated."Sir, the protest outside Anderson Industries escalated just as you predicted," Nathan, one of his most trusted associates, reported, "Security had to step in and there was some minor damage to company property. Employees were unable to enter the building for a while, and some even walked out, frustrated by the lack of order. Investors are getting skittish. Anderson Industries' stocks have already dropped by seven percent since the incident began."Sam smirked, his lips curling in satisfaction.Seven percent was a good start, but not enough, not nearly enough.Jeff Anderson was a titan in the business world, a man who had spent years solidifying his reputation, building a company that see
Emma's POV The world around me had stopped moving. The air felt too thick to breathe, the sounds around me too distant, as though I were trapped inside a nightmare. The moment I realized my twins were gone, something inside me shattered.I turned wildly, searching through the thinning smoke, scanning every face in the crowd for a glimpse of their tiny figures. The panic in my chest grew unbearable, twisting my stomach into painful knots.“Jason! Anna!”My voice cracked as I called their names, my vision blurred with unshed tears.“Lock down the building!” Jeff’s sharp command cut through the chaos, “Check every exit! No one leaves until we find them!”His security team was already moving, spreading out through the crowd, pushing past confused protesters and bewildered employees. Some people were shouting in frustration, others were yelling accusations, but I didn’t care.My children were missing.I felt Jeff’s hands on my shoulders, gripping tightly, “Emma listen to me,” he said, his
Emma’s POVThe noise outside Jeff’s office had grown louder, a chaotic blend of shouting, chants, and the occasional blare of a reporter’s microphone. From the window, I could see them, the protesters.Angry, relentless, and entirely under Sam’s influence, their signs were bold, their words sharper than knives:"Jeff Knight: The Tyrant CEO!""Justice for the Employees!""We Won’t Be Silenced!"Jeff sat at his desk, his back straight, his expression unreadable as he scrolled through articles on his tablet. He didn’t say anything, but the grip he had on the device was telling.I hesitated before speaking, “How bad is it?”He let out a slow, measured breath, then turned the tablet toward me, the headlines were brutal."Knight Enterprises Faces Protests Over CEO's Past Decisions.""Former Employees Speak Out: ‘Jeff Knight Destroyed Our Livelihoods.’""The Man Behind the Corporation, The Untold Truth About Jeff Anderson."“Some of these people,” he muttered, “I fired years ago and now they
Emma’s POVThe moment I stepped into the penthouse, I could feel the weight of something heavy in the air. It wasn’t obvious, no slamming doors, no shattered glass, but it was there, lingering, thick and unspoken.I had spent enough time around Jeff to recognize when something was wrong and tonight, something was definitely wrong. He stood near the window, his back to me, his hands shoved deep into his pockets. The city lights reflected in the glass before him, a sea of movement and life, but Jeff wasn’t paying attention to any of it.He was completely still, his shoulders tense in a way that made my stomach tighten with unease.I took a slow step forward, carefully closing the door behind me. The soft click of the latch echoed in the silence, and that was when Jeff finally moved. He turned his head slightly, just enough to acknowledge my presence, but not enough for me to fully read his expression.I cleared my throat, "You're upset." It wasn’t a question, I was telling him.
