AUTHOR’S POV

Sunitra’s legs became weak, and she staggered, almost losing her balance, but Hakeem reacted quickly. He quickly caught her body in his arms, holding her tightly.

Sunitra’s nose was attacked by the scent of Oud once again, and she looked up, her eyes meeting Hakeem’s. Her hands sought out the lapels of his royal coat, and she gripped it tightly; Hakeem’s veiny arm around her waist didn't loosen its hold on her.

“Hakeem, she's…lying, isn't she? Why aren't you saying anything to defend yourself?”

“Sunitra, I–”

“You what?” She thundered, pushing him away from her with all the strength she had, sending both of them staggering in opposite directions. Nadia quickly caught her by her arm, helping her to regain her balance once more. Sunitra snatched her hand back from her sister.

“Naia,” Hakeem’s voice urged in a soft tone, “Please listen to me.”

“Why?” Sunitra chuckled dryly, “So that you can feed me more lies?”
