Pregnant

It's been two weeks since she got to her grandma’s place and she's been helping her manage her strawberry farm.

Being the prettiest in the small town, they favored and loved her so she was able to raise money out of the thousands of dollars needed.

One day, she was peeling apples for her grandmother at the hospital when she retches. 

“Are you okay sweetheart?” her grandmother asked weakly.

“Yes grandma, it must be indigestion,” She said.

But then nausea came again and she rushed to the bathroom to vomit so bad.

After cleaning her mouth, she grew so weak and fainted.

Her grandma panicked and called the attention of the nurses.

A few minutes later, she woke up in a separate room and her grandma sitting beside her but she was also with her drip stand.

On seeing her grandma, she jerked up from the bed “You shouldn’t be moving around Grandma” she said.

The doctor then came in with a file and smiled at her.

“Big Congratulations to you Miss, you are two weeks pregnant,” he said to her.

She was stunned, her grandma was dumbfounded.

“You must be mistaken hehe, it happens in movies a lot so I’m sure you are giving me another person’s report. Another patient with the same name and age as mine” she said to clear herself of the fear building up in her.

“This is the file Miss, “ he said handing it to her.

She then remembered her nightstand with the pimp! Her best friend and boyfriend had ruined her life.

She started crying on the hospital bed but her grandma was not mad at her.

She pulled her in for a hug with one hand since the other was placed on the walking stand.

“Young girls make mistakes sweetheart, I’m not mad at you. You’re not too young to have a baby” she said to her.

How badly Daphne wanted to get rid of the pregnancy but with her grandma’s health, she would not dare say otherwise.

Daphne would use pills every day to abort the pregnancy since she could not use the hospital where her grandma is at. It is the only big hospital in the small town.

Tons of pills and drugged herself, yet she saw no blood. Just a side effect of drowsiness and weakness.

At times she wonders if she’s been taking sleeping pills instead. 

One day, she saw blood and it gladdens her heart.

It came for three days and she believed she must have successfully aborted the baby.

Three more weeks and she was doing fine until she fainted again.

The doctor suggest another test since it’s been 5 weeks already and fortunately or unfortunately, she saw four babies in the scan and could hear their faint heartbeats.

Daphne stares at the ultrasound view in front of her in tears. Her grandma was so elated.

She has tried talking to her to explain the issue of her pregnancy but she didn’t say anything.

Daphne wonders how a pimp like that can be so healthy to give her four babies.

She begged her grandma for an abortion because the arrival of the babies will only affect their cost of living and the hospital bills.

“You will be discharged next month grandma but we still have much money to pay the hospital!” She cried.

“Everything comes with a reason Daphne, it will all be fine trust me” she assured her, she only calls her by her name when she’s worried.

FIVE YEARS LATER!

“Mommy...I want Strawberries” One of her quadruplets, Darcie said.

“Mommy I want, I want!” another one Gracie said jumping on the couch.

“Get down from there please Gracie, remember? No jumping from high places “ she warned.

“Hey Carl, you can’t eat that!” Daphne said to her baby boy eating the leaves of the freshly picked strawberries.

“Mommy I got this for you,” Noah said.

Her quadruplets are so beautiful and adorable. They would receive gifts every day from neighbors and clients anytime they show up on the farm.

Sometimes they would plead to take pictures with the adorable kids but Daphne never agreed.

“No pictures please” she would chant every time she comes out.

They all have golden colored hair and the girls' own came so deep. They have unique eye colors of deep blue on the right and green on the left. This creates attention everywhere they went.

With this, Daphne barely takes them out except on the farm to keep them under her close watch. She knew deep down how the eye color came to be. It’s a combination of hers and the pimp she slept with! She didn’t see his face but his lips and eyes are some things she will never forget.

On a very gloomy day, it appears as if it would rain and hence she left the farm early with her kids.

—— The next morning, it was her grandma’s wailing that woke her up.

“Everything is gone, Daphne! The farm!” She said to her.

Daphne rubbed her eyes to read out the caption on the news. An unpredicted heavy rain damaged all the farmlands in the small town. The farms are flooded and fresh foods got destroyed but not just their farm. 

Residents of the town were advised to relocate as the next storm would destroy houses.

Daphne slides down the wall and hit the ground with her butt, how’s she going to feed four kids and her grandma?! 

She cried so bitterly in her room. She would curse her fate in between for being unlucky.

Two days later, the government offered to commemorate their loss and offered new homes to those that lost their farms and houses.

Daphne knew she can’t stress her grandmother anymore so she decided to go back to Hawkin City to search for greener pastures.

It took a whole lot of effort to convince her grandmother but she agreed in the end. Her grandmother gave her a relative address to stay with.

After an emotional parting with her grandma, she left the small town with her four babies.
