Groaning in pain behind my back and at my neck, probably stiff neck, I slowly opened my eyes. The awful stench that still smelled like the combination of rotting flesh and the sweet perfume lingered in the air. It made me wince. I was about to sit up but I realized that both of my hands were tied behind me and my mouth was gagged with a cloth tied around my head.
“She is awake!” one of the men yelled. I could not see who he was because of the mask that covered half of his face.
My guess was that he was probably one of those men who took me from the mansion. Looking down at myself, a shower of relief came down on me when I saw that my gown was still intact and there was no sign that they took advantage of me while unconscious.
My gaze shifted to my right where I heard footsteps becoming more audible. Just like the first guy, I could not see this man’s face because of the mask. Though, I could see his smi
(FORSTERITE)Lansford’s warm breath brushed my skin but before his lips could even touch mine, I pursed my lips. Opening my eyes, I raised my hands and held his firm chest. He must really be working out a lot… but that aside, I pushed him and without hesitation, my hand landed right on his cheek. My hand stung in pain but either way, it still felt satisfying than the first slap I gave him a while back.Grinning, I flipped my hair as he returned his gaze at me.“Should I slap the other side to balance the pain?” I asked. He held his cheek that was turning red and simply snickered. I thought after doing that when he almost thought he could kiss me would totally tick him off but it was puzzling when he just returned a grin.“Playing hard-to-get, huh. I like that.” He winked at me as he took a few locks of my aubu
“Why do you look so scared?”I never dared look up to Ciel because I was too scared to face him again. I… I did not prepare myself for his sudden appearance. Shutting my eyes closed, I felt him sit just beside me and his warm hand cupped my cheek.“Frost, is everything okay?”F-Frost? The only person who called me that was… Taking the courage to open my eyes, I slowly lifted my head and looked at the person in front of me. It was Lansford. I let out a breath of relief when I saw his annoying face and just slapped his hand away. He almost gave me a heart attack with how similar his voice was to Ciel.“I am okay. Leave me alone,” I said before grabbing the blanket and covering myself. Letting him see me scared and vulnerable like this was too embarrassing and he might just take advantage of me. I would never let a mere human like Lansford gain control o
Pacing back and forth in my room with my heart beating fast, I could not find an excuse that can possibly explain what Lansford saw just a while back. I should crack my head to come up with a lie while he takes that woman away from this place. What should I tell him?Oh, shit! If only that woman did not anger me, my eyes would not glow in anger. This was nothing but a bad sign. Should I just escape and leave this place? Maybe this was also a sign that I should leave Lansford and find another person who would help me. But… But how would I take my bead back from him? I mean… I could not just go and kiss him while he was awake. Oh, that was not something I would do because he would surely assume that I like him. Ew!I stopped in my tracks when I heard his footsteps coming into my room. Maybe I should just hide. Running towards the large closet, I heard the door open even before I could hide away from his sight.
I could not answer his question so I simply looked out the window and said nothing. If I were to lie to him, would he believe me? But I just had this feeling that he was not in the mood to be fooling around and if he caught me lying, he might just throw me out and I had nowhere else to go. I did not want that to happen, especially since those new places scare the hell out of me.“Are you not going to answer me?” Lansford asked after a few moments of silence between us.“I… I am just someone from the countryside,” I muttered as I remembered the words Lydia told me before in the hospital.I heard him scoff, a sign that he probably knew I was lying. But… he does not know that I was an immortal, doesn’t he? If he knew that, then, I’d be doomed. Stealing a glance from him, I saw that he was wearing that serious expression again. Seeing him like that honestly scares me a little
Hoping that Lansford would come back and find me, I stayed at the shop for who knows how long. The ladies in uniform started to probably get annoyed at me since I was staying in their shop and was not buying anything, making me feel uneasy and uncomfortable. I did not want to embarrass myself so I hauled the bags with me and left. His scent was all over the place but even though I followed its trace, he was still nowhere to be found.I did not know the direction where Lansford parked his car nor can I read the signs around me so I simply trusted my instinct and walked towards the stairs moving downwards. I knew I was lost but it was just hard to admit it to myself. After several minutes of going back and forth just to find the exit, I finally found myself exiting the huge building. There were a lot of people that I could no longer smell the scent of Lansford. With negativity hitting me right at that moment, I could not help but think t
(FAYALITE)We were currently inside the room of Alexander as he tended to my wounds on both hands and feet. He was quiet all the time, thus, it became more unnerving to speak with him. Did he probably guess that I was planning to stand him up? But I do hope that he was not thinking about that because I did not want to face his anger. Besides, my escape was a total failure and it even ended up as a kidnapping.Watching him carefully wrapping my hand with a bandage, I suddenly flinched when he lifted his gaze and looked into my eyes. If only his stare was a sharp knife, it could have gone through me.“What did those men want from you?” he asked.I was able to breathe in relief since he did not speak about me leaving the wedding. I managed to escape that predicament as of the moment but the thought of him mentioning that anytime was more than unnerving.
With the woman entering Alexander’s office, I cannot help but feel worried. Yes, I did plan to run away during our wedding but now that we were married, I do not want it to simply go to waste. At least, I would want to take advantage of it to search for Arsen as soon as possible.I promised my grandmother that I would return as soon as possible but it had already been more than three months and yet I was not making any progress. I just had this feeling that if I stay a little bit longer with Alexander, I could actually find Arsen and I wanted to cling onto that instinct.Out of impulse, I walked towards his office and held the doorknob. I was hesitant to open the door but I eventually decided to go inside. Entering the room, several people, mostly men, gazed in my direction and they were giving me this confused look.“Is she your new secretary?” the woman whom the workers referred to as the ex-lover of
Regaining my consciousness, I heard several voices, both familiar and unfamiliar, around me. Curious about what they were talking about, I still shut my eyes while enduring the strong smell of antiseptic, my least favorite smell.“We did some tests to check on whatever is wrong with her but we found nothing. She is completely normal,” an unfamiliar voice stated.“You mean… either she is truly sleeping right now or pretending to be asleep?” I was more than sure that that was Alexander. There was a hint of annoyance and anger in his voice that made me hesitant to open my eyes.He was indeed right about me pretending to be asleep right now but I was definitely in pain back then. That was no pretense. Still, even I was ignorant of the reason why I had that chest pain and even lost consciousness. Wanting to explain my side, I opened my eyes and the first person I locked gaze with was Alexander.
I clipped a few locks of my hair behind my ear as I looked down the sands. It was just a bit embarrassing to be suddenly addressed like that when I was used to being just called Fayalite. Though, I wonder what he was here for. O mean, he was the second-in-command of Arsen so he usually stays beside him. Did he probably come here to search for him? “You seem to be enjoying yourself here in the human realm, princess,” he said as he walked in my direction. Now that he was closer, I came to notice that he really blended well among the humans. Unlike the first time I came here, I looked so different and ignorant. “Not really. I...” I paused. Would it be insensitive of me to speak about Arsen? I mean, I was the reason why his soul was sent here and his body was in a coma. “Why are you here?” He looked at me in the eyes with a sharp look and a smirk drawn on his lips. It
According to what Luis said, our reserved seats were first class so we would be able to sleep more comfortably. That was good news actually because just entering in the craft made me feel like I want to throw up or something. I did not like the feeling at all. Just, as usual, Alexander and Freya were together on the opposite side of my seat with Luis. I just pretended that I did not mind them at all because I already promised Alexander that I won't be disturbing them no matter what. After putting away our baggage, I immediately laid down on my seat and shut my eyes. Luis said that we will be flying at any minute but my stomach was already flipping on its own. "I should get to sleep before we fly. I might vomit anytime," I mumbled. I heard a giggle coming from Luis as he sat across from me. "Is it your first time to ride on an airplane?" I simply nodded in reply since it felt like if I o
I had no idea what Freya wanted to talk about but turning her down would seem like I was being petty just because Alexander favored her over me. I shut the door close and walked in her direction. Sitting across from her, I stood quiet and waited for her to initiate the conversation. I can’t believe I was actually in a situation like this… I thought it only happens in those movies made by humans but oh well, I hope this won’t turn into a disaster. “Alexander told me…” she said, “He said that you were just pretending to be sick to get his attention.” What? I cannot believe he actually told her that! I was not pretending to be sick! I wanted to yell at her and claim my innocence but I could not do it because if she asks me why I fainted twice, I had nothing to say. Even I became so weirded out with my own body, and not to mention, I just lost my sense of taste. “I know,” Freya added, her voice still calm and collected
(FAYALITE) Seeing the shocked and confused expression of Alexander made me step backward. Why did it have to be him when it could have been Arsen? He was already mad at me for several reasons and if he ever finds out about who I really was, he might throw me out to the streets. Since he seemed to be frozen where he was, I decided to grab that opportunity to run away but upon turning away from him, I heard another man’s voice. “Alexander, is it okay to bring your mistress home when you already found yourself a wife?” Hearing that question just made me hesitate to jump out of the window. Thus, I ended up hiding behind the door where I could hear their conversation. Plus, I could smell a rather strong scent of sandalwood coming from the person who had just come in. Compared to other human beings, his scent was stronger. “Lansford, what did you come here for?” I heard Alexander a
For a minute, Lansford and I were in a staring contest. There was really nothing he could do to my wound since I already washed it clean and it was not that deep to cause any kind of infection. Moreover, he was a mere human being so he had no healing abilities to close the wound. He was probably doing this to show off and make me think that he was such a gentleman. Guh, after how he acted for the past few days, a day would never come for me to even consider him as a gentleman.“One…” He started to count which only made me roll my eyes before pushing him away from me.Not saying a word, I got up and sat on the edge of the bed with my back facing him. I gathered my long hair to the side just so he could get a clear view of the scratch.“It’s not that serious of a wound so there is nothing to worry about. I could still go and meet that dealer you wanted to do business with so don’t be to
Lansford shrugged his shoulders and replied, “It is a well-known tale here.”What? Really? But how did humans even know of the Black Alpha’s existence? Did he probably announce his presence? Or was he captured when the humans came to know of his real identity? Err… just by thinking of that gives me the shivers. He might be being tortured somewhere or even died.I wanted to ask more about the tale he was referring to because it could not be the one I was talking about but every time I bring out that topic, Lansford would dismiss it and insist that I should just focus on reading and memorizing. He acted that way until we were at the airport and just like always, I was stunned at the huge machine that humans use to fly.“Hey, Lansford,” I called out as I narrowed my sight on the so-called airplane. “The wings of that plane seemed to be too hard. Are you sure that if we ride on it,
What happened the next day after Lansford found out about my true identity as a red fox, I did not really like what greeted me so early in the morning. I had a good night’s sleep indeed but upon leaving my room so I can head to the kitchen and find something I can cook, Lansford was in the living room.“Morning. What’s with the piles of papers around? Are you studying for an exam?” I asked. He did not say anything. He simply motioned me to sit beside him while holding a few documents I could not understand. Occupying the seat near him, he showed me a book with colored illustrations. If I was not mistaken, it was possibly a book for children.“Before we depart tomorrow, I will be teaching you how to read so you can survive on your own when you make future deals in my stead,” he said.I looked at him with a raised eyebrow. “Are you expecting me to learn new wri
“Shut your eyes right now, Lansford, before I will snatch them out from your eye sockets,” I threatened.“They’re closed,” he replied as he slowly put me down.Since he had already seen my true form, I let out my nine tails while maintaining my human form so I could at least use them to cover my nakedness. Taking a few steps away from him, I saw that he indeed shut them close but to make sure of it, I clenched my fist and attempted to punch him. I stopped midway when my hand was already a few millimeters away from his face. Seeing that he did not flinch even a tiny bit, I was convinced that he was keeping his word. I turned my back on him and grabbed my clothes from the ground before I tiptoed back to the room to get dressed. This was supposed to be one of the ordinary days that I should be searching for my sister but I did not know what went wrong or what I did wrong just to deserve this. I
(FORSTERITE)I gulped at the question of Lansford because it just felt like he knew where I really came from. I really could not guess if he was asking because he did not know or he was simply testing me if I was telling him the truth or not. This was one of the things that somehow made me fear him… he was just one of the people I could not predict.Clearing my throat, I replied, “What do you mean by kingdom? I am not a princess or anything so coming from a kingdom is definitely not possible. What are you even thinking?”After washing the vegetables, I turned on my heels to leave the kitchen because I did not want to continue the conversation. It was a dangerous path to take so better yet retreat before this guy would hit me in the most unexpected time. However, upon turning away from the sink, I flinched upon seeing him standing before me.He flic
