Kade POV

I don’t reply. I can’t. Because I know he’s right. This tension between us, this constant back-and-forth, the way I push him just to feel him push back, it’s not about winning. It never was.

Rook watches me for a beat longer before his hands move lower, gripping my hips, keeping me pinned. “Since you’re feeling honest, let’s make one thing clear.” His lips brush my ear, his voice a near-growl. “I don’t play fair, and you? You fucking love it.”

I jerk against the restraints again, a last attempt at resistance, but he just laughs, dragging his teeth along my neck. “Keep fighting, Mercer. It just makes it better.”

I grit my teeth, trying to suppress a shudder as Rook’s mouth moves down my neck. His teeth graze my pulse point, and I can’t hold back a sharp inhale.

“Fuck you,” I spit out, but there’s no real venom behind it. We both know I don’t mean it.

Rook chuckles against my skin. “That’s the idea, sweetheart.”

His hands slide down my sides, gripping my hips hard enough to bru

Rook POVClimbging out of bed carefully, I try not to wake Kade. He’s still out cold, his body relaxed in a way that tells me he hasn’t had real sleep in days. I grab my clothes and pull them on, keeping my movements quiet. Before stepping out of the room, I lock the door behind me. He can try climbing out the window again, but I already learned my lesson. The locks are in place now. He’s not running.Heading downstairs, I find my father sitting in one of the chairs, a bottle in one hand as he feeds Harlow. The sight is something I never expected to see. A fucking mafia boss, one of the most feared men in the city, casually feeding a strangers baby like it’s nothing.“Don’t get attached,” I mutter, eyeing the way he watches her. He barely glances at me.“I’m sure I told you the same thing about Mercer,” he replies with a smirk, and he’s right. He did. I ignored it then, just like he’s ignoring me now.“Is he sleeping it off?”I nod. “Yeah. He was about to beat the shit out of one of h

Rook POVHe leans forward, resting his elbows on his knees. “She was used. You know as well as I do, a high percentage of women who were raped or manipulated by the man either give up the baby or terminate the pregnancy. The child becomes a permanent link to what happened.”My teeth grind together. He’s right, and that pisses me off even more.“Why do you always have to be so damn smart? Still you shouldn't be assuming,” I mutter, turning to walk away.“I’m not assuming,” he corrects, watching me with a knowing look. “I’m looking at the facts. What she did. The statistics of people in her situation. It leads to a conclusion, not an assumption.”I roll my eyes, turning to leave. “Yeah, well, I’m sticking with you don’t know shit.”He chuckles behind me, but I don’t wait around to hear whatever else he has to say. Rook POV“You’re assuming I’m pretending it didn’t happen. I know it did.” His voice is cold, detached, like he’s already decided how this conversation is going to play out. “Just get it over with, Rook. Tell me it was fucked up, tell me it was wrong. Complain that I went too far, that I shouldn’t have killed. The quicker you say it, the quicker you can leave me the hell alone.”My fingers twitch, and for a second, I want to grab him, shake some fucking sense into him, but I don’t. Instead, I exhale slowly, clenching my jaw. “I’m not about to tell you it was wrong, or that you went too far.” I let the words settle between us, watching as his shoulders tense, like he wasn’t expecting that. “I want to know why you left. You snuck out like you were trying to hide the fact you weren’t coping from me rather than just telling me.”His back is still to me, the water running over his skin, but he doesn’t move. • Pucking Forbidden Claim   Her Blame

Kade POVRegret clings to me, thick and suffocating. I should’ve stayed. I should’ve let Rook pull me back instead of running, instead of chasing something reckless, something worse. I knew he could’ve helped, could’ve forced me to stop, to listen, to let go of whatever the fuck is wrong with me. But I ran because I wanted to lose control. I wanted to kill someone again, or I wanted to be forced, to be pushed so far past my own limits that I had no choice but to give in.I breathe out sharply, dragging the towel through my damp hair before tossing it onto the bathroom counter. It doesn’t change anything. Doesn’t clear my head. The weight is still there, pressing down on me, coiling tight in my chest.Once I'm dressed, I grab my phone, hesitating before unlocking it. I need to call my mother. I need to tell her the truth about Paul. She hasn’t been answering me for days, but this? She won’t ignore this.I press call and lift the phone to my ear, listening to the dial tone stretch on. J

Kade POVI exhale heavily. “She thinks it’s my fault Paul did what he did. That I should’ve never left. That Amelia running, everything, it all comes back to me.”Rook tilts his head slightly. “And do you agree?”I don’t answer right away. I don’t want to. But the silence stretches between us, pressing against my ribs, and eventually, I just nod.“Yeah,” I say quietly. “I do.”He watches me for a long moment, his expression unreadable, then sighs. “You know what I think?”I don’t answer. He steps closer, pressing right up against me, his voice dropping low. “I think you want to punish yourself. And I think you don’t know how.”I clench my jaw, every muscle in my body locking up. “Fuck off, Rook.”His lips twitch, but there’s something darker in his eyes, something knowing. “Hit a nerve, did I?”“Go to hell.”“You first,” he smirks, then nods toward the door. “Come on.”I don’t move. “Where?”“You’ll see.”I exhale through my nose, rubbing the back of my neck before finally, reluctantl

Kade POV“You needed this, didn’t you?” His voice is softer now, but still taunting. “You needed someone to push back, to remind you you’re still in control. But you’re not, are you?” His grip tightens. “Not with me.”My heart pounds, fury and something else clawing up my throat. I bare my teeth at him, every muscle coiled with frustration. “Go to hell, Rook.”He chuckles, his lips curving into that smirk that makes me want to hit him again. “Already there, Mercer.” His hand drops from my throat, and for a second, I think he’s letting me go. But then he grips my jaw, forcing my head up, making me look at him. His thumb brushes over my lip, his expression shifting into something darker. “Now tell me… do you still think you picked the wrong guy to fuck?”I don’t answer. I can’t.His smirk widens as he watches the way my breathing stutters, the way my body betrays me despite the rage burning under my skin. “That’s what I thought.”I should push him off. • Pucking Forbidden Claim   His Acceptance

Rook POVI watch as Kade moves around the room, pulling on his clothes with a tension that wasn’t there before. My mind replays everything that just happened, searching for the moment I might have said something wrong, done something to set him off. He looked fine—more than fine—just a few minutes ago. Now, he looks worse than before, like something is clawing at him from the inside.“Kade,” I reach for him, but he sidesteps me, giving me a smile that’s all wrong. It’s forced, too perfect, like a mask he’s desperate to hold in place.“Okay, for a change, I didn’t call you a cat. Did that piss you off?” I try to joke, hoping to drag him back from whatever storm is brewing in his head.He laughs, and it sounds so fucking amazing and real. “I’m fine,” he says, and it’s such an obvious lie that I just stare at him, waiting for the real answer.Instead, he holds out his hand. “I need your phone. Rook POVAs we reach the living room, my father hands Harlow to me without a word and disappears, leaving us standing there. Kade watches the baby in my arms, his expression unreadable.“She’s not my responsibility,” he mutters, his voice flat, like he’s trying to convince himself more than me.“Neither are your sisters, but you’re still going to send money home so they don’t go without,” I reply, not trying to be cruel, just pointing out the reality he refuses to acknowledge.“I’m not now,” he whispers.I freeze for a second, staring at him. “What?”“I’m not sending home money,” he repeats, firmer this time. His eyes are locked on Harlow, but I can see the storm behind them. “I’ve sent enough. Enough so she didn’t have to work constantly, but she still did. If she hadn’t thrown stupid amounts of money at my sisters, she could have cut down her hours and actually paid attention to what was going on.”He’s not just talking about Amelia—he’s talking about Paul. About all of it.I nod sl

You just got drugged into sleep, and you still look like shit.”I lean in slightly, lowering my voice so only he hears. “I want to go somewhere. Just us.”His brows knit together. “Where?”I let a slow smirk tug at my lips. “We never got the final moments of our holiday together.”Something flickers in his gaze, surprise, then understanding. Every second you sit here thinking you’re being loyal, you’re just another second closer to dying for people who don’t even know your fucking name.”He sucks in a broken breath, but his lips stay pressed together.“Fine.” I grab his pinky, and before he can even brace for it, I snap it back. A sickening crack echoes through the room, his strangled scream tearing from his throat as he thrashes.I let him writhe, let the pain settle deep into his bones before I lean in close. “You've got a few fingers left. • Pucking Forbidden Claim   Making Him Speak

Rook POVThis is impossible. There’s no footage from the back of the restaurant, the lead that Lorenzo found is a dead end. I’m beginning to think that note was planted to bait Kade, and now I wonder, did he even see it? Did he walk into this blind?Every fucking move I’ve made has led me in a circle. There’s nothing. No trail, no whispers of where he might be. I’ve had a list of names from Lorenzo, people in this country who might have had the balls to pull something like this. I went through them one by one. Each name dragged in, each one screaming in pain, but all swearing the same thing—they don’t know anything. How the fuck can none of them be involved? My eyes shift to the men in the room, the ones we brought with us. And for the first time, I wonder, are they all innocent? Something isn’t adding up.Nine hours.Nine fucking hours since Kade disappeared, and my father’s words echo in my head.Find him, or he’s dead

Kade POVDanielle watches, waiting, maybe hoping that I’ll finally break. I don’t. I inhale slowly, shaking the blood from my lips, and laugh.“How long do you think you’ve got left?” I ask, my voice rough but still steady. “Every minute you waste here? That’s more time my men have to find me. And when they do? You’ll be fucking wishing you killed me the second I walked through that door.”The guy in front of me hesitates, glancing back at her, waiting for an order.“Keep going,” she snaps, her voice sharper now.He does. Another punch to my ribs, another to my jaw, but I don’t stop grinning. The pain is sharp, burning through my body, but I don’t let it show. They want me to break. They want me to plead. That’s never going to happen.Danielle steps closer, her eyes locked onto mine. “You think you’re so fucking smart, don’t you?” she

Kade POVI hiss through my teeth, more from the annoyance than the pain. “There you go. That’s a little better.”She glares, dragging the blade in a shallow cut across my side, but she’s still holding back. Testing me. I shake my head, sighing.“See, this is why you’re not going to win,” I say, my voice steady despite the sting. “You don’t actually know how to do this.”Danielle scoffs. “Oh, I don’t?”I tilt my head. “No. If you did, you wouldn’t be wasting time with this weak shit.”She presses the knife in harder, and I grin, feeling her frustration build. “You want to break someone? You don’t start here,” I say, nodding toward my ribs. “You start small. Fingers. Knees. Maybe a little nerve damage if you want to get creative.”She stills, something flickering across her face. Kade POVHer nostrils flare as she presses the blade harder, drawing a thin line of blood. “You don’t hold the power here.”“Don’t I?” I whisper, locking eyes with her. “Then why are you the one trying to prove something?”Her grip tightens on the knife, but she hesitates. That’s her biggest fucking problem. She doesn’t commit. She doesn’t know how to follow through.“Let me tell you how this plays out,” I continue, voice smooth despite the sting on my cheek. “You keep me here, keep trying to break me, but it doesn’t work. Eventually, you get frustrated, you get sloppy, and then my men find me. And when they do, you don’t walk away from this.”Her eyes narrow. “You sound pretty fucking confident for someone tied up right now.”“Because I know how this ends.” I smirk. “And so do you.”Danielle exhale
