Andrea’s aware of his past marriage. He hasn’t been involved with anyone after his divorce. At least, not one that has been reported on the news. She did read up on his latest news when she considered asking him for help, just to get a feel of what he’s like at the moment.
“Since you’re not currently involved with anyone, this might not be unappealing to you. Read it.” He languidly sat on the couch, stretching his right arm on the backrest.
Must he be so overbearing? She’s more interested in the “why” than the “what”.
As she looked at the document, she took some time to think about the situation. Why would he propose such a thing? He’d been married before. If she were him, she might completely vow never to marry again. She’d been in failed relationships and she’s almost close to becoming a cynic. Yeah, sometimes she would think that finding a person who you can have a prior agreement before getting married is a better way to ensure the success of a relationship. Well, technically, that’s what dating is for. And yet, so many people are dishonest and manipulative. You couldn’t fully trust anyone.
It’s a real commitment. Her lip twitched at the agreement she’s holding. Would he sue her if she violates his terms? Oh wait, she hasn’t agreed yet.
Engagement period of three months up to six months. Oh, look. It wasn’t entirely a shotgun wedding.
She stole a glance at him. He’s not entirely unreasonable at this whole thing. She does know his family. What would Aria and Annie say if she suddenly marries their brother? Huh. The engagement period would be helpful. They can make things up. They can say they dated or something. She can straight up lie and say she likes him a lot, which isn’t hard to believe. He would have a harder time convincing his family that he likes her. If she remembers correctly, his mother is quite traditional. A very gentle woman.
Requirements. Fidelity. Honesty. Responsibility. She held her head in one hand, slowly massaging her temple.
“Shouldn’t you properly explain what you meant by these? Requirements. These are your expectations? Fidelity? You want your wife to be faithful. To what extent? Not meeting other men? Not having male friends? Never going on a date with another, or even a simple meeting or outing. Would you even allow your wife to greet people?”
“I’m not that unreasonable. But I would require the highest form of care and discretion. You can’t be seen alone with another man. The rumors will be bad enough. You’ll most likely be compared to my last wife. I assume you know about that?”
“Yes, I’m aware. But why the need to marry? Is it something you actually want?” Her question stumped him again.
In a way, he’s still a man. Despite his past experience… yes, he wanted a family. But currently, he’s not looking forward to it. He’s still cautious. But his mom…
“My mother wants me to get married. She wants grandchildren. She thinks enough time has passed and I should try again.”
Andrea slowly digested that. He’s thirty-five. Not exactly young, but for a man, it’s not that late to get married. Some even get married in their early forties.
“But…” She was about to ask something unnecessary. Clearly, he isn’t exactly ready to try again. He’s going about it like another business deal. She can relate. She’d imagined that a few times.
“But why me?” She changed her question.
It was the first time she’d seen Wayne shrug. After a long time, anyway. Those broad shoulders… he grew up so well.
“Like what you see?” He raised an eyebrow, noticing the way her gaze travelled through every part of his body.
She lightly coughed, “You didn’t answer the question.”
“My family knows you. It would be much easier to say that we reconnected or something, than to convince them that I fell in love with a random woman who they might not like.”
That’s… reasonable. Though she reconnected with his sisters, she hadn’t been to see their parents.
“Did you think I would agree?”
“You need something from me. It’s a case of give and take.”
Well, there’s the catch. But does she desperately need him? She bit her lip. If she’s to think of only herself, she’s doing okay. She’s able to provide for her needs. As for her parents… everyday a creditor comes or calls. Her father’s soft heart couldn’t bear to let others suffer because of him.
She lifted her eyes and stared straight into his.
“Other than the proposals and turning them into actual successful businesses, can you lend me money?” Then, she went on to talk about the creditors and how she can’t bear to see her father agonizing over it.
“I can give you money. If you agree, I’ll see to it that all of your father’s debts are settled.” It would seem she’s going to be agreeable. He studied her profile.
She hadn’t read the rest of the document yet.
“Before you think about agreeing, I suggest you completely read the document. If there’s anything you feel you can’t agree to, then… I don’t think we should proceed.”
“Not negotiable at all?” She fingered the edge of the first page as she continued to read, as he so kindly reminded her.
“Ask if you have any questions.”
The corners of her mouth twitched again at how detailed he is. Basically, he’s asking for a wife who would do everything he says. His demands are quite… reasonable, if she says so herself. Things she might demand from someone she would be in a relationship with… right.
“Is this mutual? If I demand the same things from you… except the financial part, of course. I don’t have the money.” Would he…?
“Of course.” He readily agreed. Wow.
“You won’t be seen with another woman?” She glanced at the list of terms.
“I won’t.” His expression speaks volume. Andrea assumes he’s not in any way interested in women at the moment.
“Hmm… that’s good, then.” She continued her perusal of the pages.
“I will be free to pursue my own career. If I choose to help my father in restarting those businesses I proposed…?”
“Go ahead.”
“But you will help, right?”
“I will.” He has enough assistants to do that, but he does review each project.
“You will support me, financially. But I would be borrowing a large sum from the beginning. Can you deduct a portion of that from this monthly support you included, as my repayment?”
“Sure.” He’s not about to tell her that she’ll be receiving so much more, but let’s not scare the woman away, Wayne reminded himself. He deliberately did not include the exact figure he’s thinking of giving her. He’d have to evaluate her first. At most, as a person who’s having financial difficulty, she’d have appreciation for money and would have known proper budgeting. She’s a business person as well.
Since he hadn’t been involved with any woman in recent years, he’s not aware of the current cost of keeping a woman. He merely thought of an estimate based on what he knows women normally purchase in excessive amounts. A couple of billions a year should be enough. If she haggles, he can double that amount. But of course, he’s going to wait and see. The first proposal she brought, the capital requirement was only ten million. How does she expect to earn millions and billions if the scale is too small? He’d ordered one of his assistants to look into the history of their family business. He might see some relevant information in there.
Andrea still couldn’t believe it. Their problems would be solved, just like that. Was it too big of a sacrifice on her part? Not… really. She slowly answered her own question. She does not have the time to look for a man and get into a relationship in the last few months. That’s not going to change anytime soon. What Wayne is offering is too good. What he’s asking for isn’t so bad. Her main concern is… commitment.
“It says here that you will refuse a divorce?” That was… she couldn’t understand the reason.
“In the event that you violate any of my conditions, if you break my trust, you lose it. I would not be made into a laughingstock a second time. It will be your punishment. We will separate, but we will not divorce. If our marriage agreement fails, I doubt I will try a third time. As for you, even if you choose another man over me, you cannot be happily married.”
She showed him an expression of incredulity. Was it necessary to go to such extent? It was spiteful. She mulled over it. Well, maybe if she’s in his position… she would want some sort of preventive measures in place as well. What she didn’t like about it is how it seems so manipulative.
She grunted, the whole document is manipulative. She would be surrendering her life to him if she agrees, though he inserted clauses on which aspects she can have reign over.
Then, she came across the section about marital relations. Wayne watched as her face turned red. He almost smiled at how flustered she looks.
It says she can’t refuse if he wants to have sex with her. She searched her mind. She has no idea what he’s like as a lover. Is he the type to force a woman? She wore a curious expression before glancing at him. She gulped as she found him looking at her.
“Questions?” He prompted, knowing she must have one. He leaned on the other side of the couch and propped his head on one hand.
“Have you ever forced a woman to sleep with you?” She hurriedly asked.
Ah, yes. He might have chosen the wrong words. He shook his head once. “Never.” He didn’t bother explaining further than that.
“Say if I’m not feeling well, or I’m tired… you won’t force me, would you? Have you ever been violent…? I mean, physically hurt someone? A woman?” Though she carefully worded those questions, his answering glare was enough.
“Forget I asked. Of course, you wouldn’t.” She immediately answered her own questions before hiding her face with the document. The next part was about getting pregnant and giving him kids. Her body heated up at the thought. At her age, she’d thought of becoming a mother a few times. Of course, she wanted to have kids. But she needed a responsible man for that. Hmm, maybe Wayne isn’t a bad choice? He’s definitely responsible.
She’d realized that as one grows up, the reality of life is entirely different from what one imagines.
Andrea bit her lip as she continued to read. Treatment of in-laws. She would move in with him as soon as she agrees, even before the wedding. Hmm… he said none are negotiable. Well, stump!Household conduct. Facilities. Properties. Prenup Agreement. Well, he must need that one. She’s no one whereas he’s this tycoon ruling the business world. No divorce. No settlement upon separation.Acts that are considered cheating. She decided to confirm her understanding of each one. As expected, he’s not unreasonable. Of course, she has male friends! Those shouldn’t be counted against her.“What do you think?” He asked while glancing at his wrist watch.Subconsciously, she looked down at her own. Well, she might’ve taken much of his time. If she’s not mistaken, she’d been here for more than an hour already.Wayne cleared his afternoon schedule just for this, but he’s simply used to working ever
It was a bad idea to kiss her. Wayne realized as he glanced at the closed door of his office. She tasted sweet and he relished in the way she responded to him. When he was forming the contract in his mind, he thought he might as well satisfy his physical needs. She would be his wife, anyway, so kissing and having sex should be normal. He would admit that she’s attractive and he was attracted. At least, physically. But that kiss… he hasn’t engaged in bedroom activities since the divorce. He was fairly disgusted with women at that point and didn’t want anything to do with them. It worked well for his business as he shifted all his attention to that. How long was it since he enjoyed a woman’s body and relished in carnal pleasures?Six months would be too long, he groaned as he realized that now.The plan has been set in motion. His sisters know she’d come to see him. He’d let her visit his office a few more times be
She’d already mentioned to her family that someone agreed to help them restart their business. She might have mentioned Wayne’s name to her mother. She keeps her parents updated every time she meets with Jay.When her mother saw her preparing in her room, seemingly unable to decide which dress to wear for tonight’s date, she asked her questions.“Where are you going?”“Oh, uhm… outside.” Right. Her mother smiled at how flustered she looks.“Going out on a date? You can never go wrong with a black dress.”Andrea hesitated, unsure. Won’t black be too sad, though? She didn’t want to feel like going to a funeral.“Or the white one.” Mrs. Payne noticed her misgivings, but she hadn’t denied that it was a date. She smiled. It has been a while since she introduced someone to them. She bit her lip. Won’t it be close to a wedding dress, though? Well
“You will be living there with me. Are you planning to stay on a corner and not move?”Wow, Andrea didn’t think he would explain so much to her and to use a somewhat sarcastic tone. She slightly shook her head.Maybe he hasn’t changed much. This characteristic of his is reminiscent of his childhood. After the main course was served, they were left alone again.“You know, if it’s like this, we could’ve had our date at your place.” She noted.“This is publicity.”She stared at him after hearing such. “What?” She almost stuttered. Are they being watched right now? She looked around, but she couldn’t exactly see past the glass walls.“It’s private. Since this is our first date, surely no one knows yet. Later, people would start to notice. If speculations are made about us, we have our story to tell and we’ll have evidence to back things up. Thi
“How was it?” Mrs. Payne greeted Andrea with a question. She can only blush. The story they’re going with is that something happened between them last night. Well, something did surely happen.“I’m guessing there’s going to be a second date.” Her mom knows how to tease.“Yes.” She smiled back as she follows her to the kitchen.“Did you have breakfast?”“Uh huh.” She went to get a water from the fridge.“So, what can you tell me about this guy? You like him?” Her mother was starting to prepare lunch.“I wouldn’t have dated him if I don’t like him, would I?” She replied.“Of course. So, you like him. What’s he like? Tell me something.” Her mother almost demanded. She knew that tone.“Well…” She proceeded to tell her about where they had dinner last night. The dance. The kiss
Andrea came to the office with some snacks. Tina was surprised to receive a portion from her. Her boss never asks for snacks. Maybe she should’ve mentioned that to Ms. Andrea? But she specifically said that she’ll drop by at this time. Ah, never mind. She is hungry. If her boss likes her, he would appreciate whatever she brings. She quietly ate as she eyed the door to his boss’ office. Hmm, should she prevent anyone from going in? Maybe?Andrea’s quite surprised at how their “relationship” really seem normal. When she showed him the food she brought, she hadn’t needed to coax him to eat or something. He stood up on his own and sat next to her on the couch. But after looking at the food, he stated, “I wanted something else.”She’s not sure how to feel. Disappointed? Embarrassed?“Oh, then I’ll get that next time? What is it?” When she turned to him, she was immediately con
There weren’t many chances for them to display their affection. But Wayne was aware that such details should be provided. He remained close to her, one hand on her waist or at her back. When there’s a lull in the conversation, he would steal kisses from her. Though Andrea knew it must be for show, she genuinely feels embarrassed and flustered. When Mr. Anderson asked his wife for a dance, the Payne couple followed urging Wayne and Andrea to do the same. Aria was reminded of the scene she witnessed weeks ago. Well, her brother looks satisfied and in love. He can’t keep his hand and eyes off of her.During the second piece of music, his brother actually repeated the scene. Andrea finally let go of the embarrassment and kissed him back, giggling when she accidentally nipped his lip.“Sorry.” Her apology was met by more insistent kisses. It was hard to french kiss without disgusting their company. It was all too easy to th
Back to the present time, on their first night, Andrea reacted to his ministrations without much thought. Her body moves every which way he touches her. After his initial release inside her, he lavished kisses against her skin. They were both sweating. Her body feels a little clammy as she took deep breaths, calming the fast beating of her heart. She remembered how she shouted upon reaching her climax and blushed beet red upon recalling where they currently are. She would never have thought that they would be doing this in his parents’ house.“Wayne…” She called for him, but moaned when his mouth found her center. He slowly licked her insides, the scent of their coupling permeating the air. He ran his tongue through her slit and sucked on her nub. She lifted her hips, pushing herself against his mouth as the pleasure built up again. His hands gripped her hips to keep her in place but she still struggled to move. Setting her legs over his shoulders, he
Does Andrea still go out? Yes. Given how those who tried to harm them were treated afterwards, Wayne really hoped no one else would try.Every month, they would only attend a maximum of two parties. Together. They still go out on weekends, but they’re totally random. No fixed time, no fixed place. They’re both seen together in public again. Her security is quite serious but she’s not bothered. In conferences or parties, she would accompany Wayne. Basically, the only time they could meet Mrs. Wayne Anderson is when her husband is with her. Rumors remain that she’s imprisoned at home or something. She only laughs it off. Wayne would sometimes drop her off at her parent’s house or at their companies. Jay has become her personal assistant while managing her own business and those of her parents. She stopped at three. Drew’s not interested in one. When they celebrated their son’s first birthday, she got the news that s
Well, Wayne managed to survive. The next party they attended, Jarred introduced his friends. A man and a woman who are dating. They chatted for a while before Wayne suggested dancing. Of course, he danced with his wife first. Then, Jarred took Andrea and danced with her. Since he’s family, he didn’t feel anything. Andrea then told the woman, Alice, that Wayne’s trying to get used to other women’s presence and asked her and her boyfriend if the lady could dance with him and if the guy could dance with her. One at a time, though. While he danced with Alice, he gave her a bit of a background so he won’t seem weird. Fortunately, she knew a bit about his scandal with the ex-wife. She quickly got the gist of it. Andrea, too, talked to the man, Harry, as they watched their partners.“How long have you guys been dating?”“Just a few months, five… six.”“Ah, I see. Not getting serious yet to consider marr
Wayne noticed her silence in the car, on their way home. He hugged her but she hasn’t made any reaction. She seemed to be thinking deeply. If anything, it looks like she’s sulking. Why, though? He squinted at her and looked back at the events during the party. Many people flocked around them. When they reached home, they went straight to the nursery to check on Ace. Wayne took him into his arms and cuddled him. There’s something soothing about him, tapping the baby and making hushing sounds. Andrea eyed him. He’s still obviously very attractive. Those women were not at all polite. Most of them stared at him without reserve. No doubt, if she wasn’t there, they would’ve tried to flirt with him. Maybe offer themselves up. She sighed. She doesn’t like analyzing people’s behavior too much. One of the reasons why she dislikes socializing with strangers. It’s not for her. After putting Ace to sleep, they both kissed him be
She hasn’t told him the details of the party she is going to attend. Likewise, he didn’t ask. When he came home early to prepare for it, he found her sleeping. Thinking she might be tired, he didn’t wake her up. He’ll just go alone. As for Andrea, there was a problem at her company that she had to resolve early that morning. She was fairly tired and went to sleep early when she got home, so she would have the energy during the party. When she saw him, there was a woman at his side. For his benefit, he wasn’t staring at her. But Andrea still glared at him. Who knew she’s also the jealous type? Prior to this, Wayne has never been close to any woman. He’d never gone on dates. He always kept his distance during events like this. That woman was itching to put her hand on his arm, though. She can see that much.Wayne stepped away from the woman, but she inched closer still. He frowned. There’s still someone who thinks he
Ace is now six months old. The nanny and the maids are all over him. The grandparents also visit a lot. They don’t need to be so worried about him. Andrea decided to continue her third project. It’s for her own. A business she has to manage. It’s real work. Not as tedious as Wayne’s. She could admit that she would not be able to reach his level. Not many people can and there’s no competition between them anyway. Wayne… he hasn’t told her to stop working. Maybe she does have an advantage over his ex-wife. She can talk business with him and he can talk about his company with her. He could teach her. He could say whatever others may think as boring, but she would find them interesting and informative.Wayne, he still feels a bit guilty. Seeing her cooped up at home and occasionally going to the offices, his and that of her parents, he wants her to feel free to go out anytime and anywhere. He would take her out on weekends. Having
Wayne sighed. “I’m not gonna lie. I probably would have, but my brain would definitely try to rationalize it. You’ve always been home. You’ve been very careful when you go outside. You wouldn’t have the opportunity to…” He stopped at seeing her glare.“Excuse me? Do I need an opportunity?” Her tone is…“Of course not. You never had that intention. You were never interested in other guys, were you?”“I didn’t have the time to get interested. I was too busy. Even when I met you, I really had no intention of getting into a relationship.”“Glad I caught you, then.” He pressed a kiss on the right side of her face.“Then, I guess it shouldn’t matter if she came to piss you off today or back then. You wouldn’t have believed her, right?”“Well, I do have a propensity to distrust whatever she says or does.”
Wayne named him Ace.At the hospital, Andrea had a hard time giving birth to him. She was utterly exhausted. The baby was healthy. When the parents came to visit, they saw Wayne carefully holding him as an elderly woman guided him from the side, holding a cotton towel and wiping the baby’s face when he drools in his sleep. She was hired as a nanny and a mother of one of the maids in their household.Wayne enthusiastically greeted them, showing off the baby.“Looks just like you as a baby.” His mother commented.“How do you remember something from so long ago?” Wayne replied with a smile, but he’s glad to hear it.“Oh, you never looked at your baby pictures, did you? I brought them with me. Come, look.”Wayne’s lip twitched as he blinked. The in-laws huddled around his mother. She laid the albums near the end of the bed as Wena carried her grandson.“Oh, they really look alike
Andrea’s eyes widened. She wanted to ask what did she just hear, but he didn’t stop from kissing her. He’s afraid, that she would reject him. He wanted to fool himself. She was kissing him back. That should mean something, right? He believes they like each other and Andrea seems to be the committed type. She’s faithful to him because they’re married. She treats him as a proper husband. She acts like a real wife. But does she love him, too?She moaned as his kiss turned aggressive. She wanted to pull back as they’re still in the living room, but he wouldn’t let her go. She slid down the couch, prompting them to separate for a moment. She took this chance to take a breath and covered his mouth with her hand.In that moment, she saw how his expression wavered, showing anxiety. She removed her hand and pecked his lips.“Let me breathe a little.” She sounded breathless as she lay there. Wayne froze f
The next day, she started having the so-called morning sickness. It was concerning, if you ask Wayne. Personally, she feels as if something’s sucking her stomach out as she heaved over the sink. When she mentioned it, he had her eat some porridge before dragging her to the hospital. With his connections, requiring an appointment didn’t matter. His first question was, “Is that normal?”The female doctor smiled, “Yes, it’s very normal. I understand it’s your first pregnancy but it’s nothing to worry about.”She then gave them a lecture on how to deal with it, the remedies, before moving onto giving them general reminders on what food to avoid at this time.“Take note of the smells that triggers your nausea. It’s different for everyone, but the most common is a fishy smell.”And then, they moved to the adjacent room for the ultrasound. Wayne tried to be calm about it, but his hand
