Ruby showed no emotion on her face for the information she just received about the rude man from Mia. She still thought that it was rude of him to spill coffee on her pants and also behave rudely towards her. Just because he got a lot of money, does not mean that he could degrade common people’s lifestyle.

Luke left the coffee shop while cursing the girl who he accidentally bumped into. His words from earlier were true, he would never go to a local coffee shop to have a cup of coffee. He only went there to meet his best friend, Gabriel, who followed him out of the coffee shop.

“Man, that was some show huh?” Gabriel said, grinning at Luke as they settled in the car and Luke drove away. Luke sighed, “She is such a rude girl. I have never met someone like her.”

Gabriel lit a cigarette and said, “Of course, you only meet rich and snobby girls.” Luke ignored Gabriel’s comments. 

“So, what’s up? You came to a local coffee shop to meet me?” Gabriel said, blowing the smoke in rings.

Luke let out a sigh before speaking, “I have been having some kind of health problem. Some irritation and itching and some hormonal imbalances.”

“If you don’t remember, let me remind you. I studied business management just like you. And I think we went to college together,” Gabriel interrupted Luke’s words. He earned a good glare from his friend for that. Gabriel chuckled and signaled Luke to continue, “So, I wanted to meet a doctor. You know my doctors are not trust worthy. That bitch has planted spies around me.”

“That bitch!! What a wonderful name for your stepmother! And I have to say that she brings so much grace to that name,” Gabriel’s words made Luke smile a little.

“So, you want to meet a doctor discreetly?” Gabriel asked Luke, taking a last drag from the cigarette.

“Yup. And I want your help for it,”

Gabriel hummed and pulled out his phone and sent a contact to Luke’s phone which made a ping sound, “Dr. Dylan. Call him.” Luke nodded his head in agreement.

“And what is up with you? Coffee shop?” Luke questioned his best friend. If people thought of Gabriel as a nice man, then they are the dumbest ever. Gabriel was a certified playboy. Courting different girls at the same time was his hobby.

“My next quest is that coffee shop manager. I mean, she is quite sexy and wasting her time being a coffee shop manager.”

Luke smirked, “Then what? Should she have become your personal entertainer?”

“Well, you know I would not mind that,” Gabriel’s words made the buddies crack into loud laughter.

Ruby looked at her face and body in the mirror. She simply could not believe that she was even considering becoming a surrogate mother. Earlier in the day, after the coffee with Mia, she had called the surrogacy agency and they had given her an appointment. It is not going to hurt to just talk. Right?

Ruby was all ready and took one last look at her slim body and walked out of the house. She locked the door and hailed for a cab.

After a few minutes of the nervous ride, she got off in front of the agency. She walked inside nervously wondering if she even made a proper choice of coming to this place. Throughout the ride, her mind kept having irrelevant thoughts which she tried my best to ignore.

The front desk executive looked at the door as soon as it opened. She gave a bright smile to Ruby, “Welcome, ma’am. How can I help you?” she asked.

Ruby swallowed the saliva that was secreted in her throat, “Hi, I am Ruby. I called earlier.”

“Right, you had called and was given an appointment if I am not wrong. Please be seated and I will get the manager to talk to you soon,” she pointed at the waiting area. Ruby nodded my head and took a seat. Her heart was beating rapidly and for a split second, she considered running away from here. But to her vain, the receptionist came out and directed Ruby to the manager’s office.

“Good morning, Miss Ruby. I am Lily and I will be your manager for the work,” the manager greeted. Ruby wondered why everyone looked and behaved so brightly. Was it fun for them to get people pregnant? she thought.

Ruby took a seat opposite Lily, “So, Ruby, I have got to know about your details and credentials. We have to run a quick check up on you to ensure you are healthy enough to carry a baby. We have a doctor for ourselves and later if the examination goes through, then you will be chosen by a couple and they will take you to the doctor we have connections with for the insemination process.”

Ruby nodded her head nervously and soon after a few minutes, she found herself naked in front of a female doctor, who was busy examining Ruby’s intimate parts to know that she did not have any infection anywhere.

Ruby was sent back to the manager’s office after the examination. And she was instructed to wait for the doctor and Lily to come to her. The wait was anguishing and she felt anxious for a lot of reasons.

The door opened after 15 minutes and the doctor and Lily made their way inside. Ruby looked at them nervously. But Lily gave her a smile which meant don’t worry.

“Ruby, I am very happy to say that you are healthy and have a perfect body to carry a baby. So would you mind if I ring up one of the couples who are on the edge to find a surrogate?” Lily asked.

Ruby didn't know what was running inside her mind at that instant, she simply nodded her head as yes without giving it much thought. She has come this far and even passed the examination, she might as well get pregnant and carry the baby.

“Very well, then,” Lily made a phone call to the couple and Ruby was informed that the couple were on their way and would soon arrive at the agency. The couple seemed to have a lot of trust in the agency and Lily that they were so readily waiting for a phone call.

Ruby and Lily talked about a draft of the contract that they were supposed to sign. They were to sign it before heading to the actual insemination process. By now, Ruby was almost convinced that she would become a surrogate mother.

“Hello, Mr. and Mrs. Hudson. Congratulations on finding a surrogate. So she is Ruby, the surrogate mother,” Lily did the introduction very smoothly. The couple arrived at the hospital within half an hour.

The Hudson couple smiled at Ruby. The looks on their faces said a rather sad story. Anybody could say that the couple were overwhelmed and could not wait to have a baby soon.

Ruby smiled back at them, “Hello. I am Ruby.”

“Thank you so much for doing this for us. We will give you anything you ask for,” Mrs. Hudson said with tears brimming in her eyes. Ruby could only smile at them sympathetically.

Lily finalized the contract that read Ruby would be getting a sum of $40000 at the child’s birth and $1000 every month for her expenses and the medical bills would be separately taken care of by the Hudson couple. And Ruby would be staying at their place until the baby is born. They would take care of her new accommodation and she should manage her present residence. Ruby could not believe her ears. The couple was ready to give her more if she wanted. But she did not have the heart to ask for more. This was more than she could think of earning in a decade.

Ruby then bids bye to everyone and excuses herself. She was walking to the bus stop since she had spent money on a taxi to come here. And she began to think about all the things that happened in the morning. One moment, Mia had come up with the agency’s ad and the next moment now, she had already signed a contract to be a surrogate mother. This was probably the fastest progress in any aspect that had happened in her life.

Suddenly, she heard a loud car horn. She turned to her left and saw an expensive car passing by her side. She noticed the face and remembered his name, Luke Sawyer. It looked like he was going back home since rich people lived outside the cities for privacy reasons. He gave her a nasty look for blocking his way. And she could not control her anger because of the expression on his face.

She raised her left hand and showed him a clear middle finger.
