*Audra POV*
Tomorrow was going to be interesting. I left the college and started driving towards my pack house with Manic by my side. My nerves were getting the better of me. “I think we need to report to the King and Queen tonight. That way tomorrow can go a bit more flawlessly. Though I don’t know if anything about this can be considered flawless.” I ran my fingers through my hair nervously. “She’s not going to hate us once she finds out, is she?”
“I know when we accepted this assignment we didn’t ever think we would befriend her. I mean she’s a good hundred years younger than us. But we both decided we liked her personality and wanted to be friends. Our friendship has always been genuine and a choice. As long as she can understand that we didn’t have to befriend her to finish out our mission, it’ll be okay. I don’t think she’s so unreasonable that she would not listen.” It didn’t take much to reassure me. I sighed softly, kissing the back of his hand.
“This is why you’re the calm to my storm, my dear.” He grinned ear to ear and licked his lips seductively. He knows all the ways to drive me crazy. A groan escapes my lips. “Can you save turning me on till after we’re home? Driving horny is not the greatest option you brute.”
We pulled in at the pack house and I sniffed the air. “OOOOOH it’s taco night!” my mouth started to water. “Race you inside!” Manic laughed at me. He always teased me because I am and always will be a bottomless pit. I took off running into the pack house straight for the large dining room, “Tacos, I’m coming!!” I shouted and a lot of eyes turned to look at me. The entire room burst out laughing.
“You are completely immature, my fated. Really? Shouting for tacos?” Manic couldn’t stop laughing. A tall man came up to us, still laughing, himself.
“I think I have the most… unusual beta in the history of were-kind.” His arm snaked around the woman next to him, who smiled at me like an older sister would to a younger sister. This was because I am her younger sister. Our Luna is my sister and I am the Alpha’s beta.
“Alpha! How are you today?” I asked him with a cheeky grin, “My Luna, you’re lovely as ever!” I put my hand on her swollen tummy and knelt down kissing it, “And you! How are you lil pup? Behaving for mommy, I hope… Remember auntie loves you!” I stood up and kissed my sister's cheek.
“I did come to find you for a reason besides showing off my love’s baby bump.” Kross signaled for us to follow him, and I looked longingly at the taco bar. He must have caught my glance. “Oh for Goddess’s sake, go pile up your plate and come to my office.” He knew me well enough to know I wouldn’t stop grumbling for tacos.
I grabbed Manic and dragged him with me. I made three plates and had him make three plates, knowing he would only eat two.
“You are really hungry aren’t you?” His eyebrow was raised. “Your heat must be closer than we thought.” His smirk was so fucking sexy.
“Don’t do that to me right now. We are supposed to go to my brother-in-law's office and sit through a meeting. If my arousal is permeating the room they are not going to be happy.” If I had a free hand, I would have smacked his shoulder. As it were, the food was too precious. He was also aware of this.
“Let’s go, my starving love. You can eat all you wish when we sit down.” We started walking down the hall to a set of double doors. The guard at the door opened it for us with a bow.
“Manic, Audra.” Alpha Brant had a very serious tone. This made my wolf back up a bit, slightly intimidated. “You’ve done a great job on your mission, according to the King and Queen, handling it flawlessly, despite my reservations.” He sighed as if conflicted. “You are my right-hand wolf, Audra, and important to this pack. Your family is all here, and we love you.” I didn’t know why he was saying this but I was feeling very nervous.
“Alpha, please speak plainly. Otherwise, you may give my poor wife, not to mention myself, a panic attack.” Manic could feel all of my anxiety through the fate bond. He couldn’t stand it when I felt that way. Brant nodded.
“My apologies. I just don’t like the idea that I might lose my Beta to the Royal Family as a personal guard for their Princess.” His face was sour. “It is a great honor, but I’m not sure how this pack would do without your genius. Your sister keeps me on task and motivated while you keep the financials and pack relations on track. I don’t want another Beta. I have the perfect one. But I also can’t downplay the honor the position you’re being offered is.” He turned to Manic, “The offer isn’t just for Audra, by the way. It includes you. This means you, your pups that aren’t of age, and any that are of the age that chooses to travel with you will leave the pack to live in the Royal Castle as well. Though I would never take your membership of this pack away, ever. Once a Moonchild, always a Moonchild.”
My jaw hung on the floor. The King and Queen wanted us to continue to be by Her Highness’s side. “This… is a lot to think about. I was just wanting to get past tonight and know everyone is alive at that point. I don’t know what to do.” I looked helplessly at Manic, hoping he would be more eloquent with his words than I.
“Alpha, may we have a couple of days to talk it over and discuss this with our children as well?” He was much more composed than I was at the current moment. It was surreal. A personal Royal Guard to the protector of the Moon Goddess Selene. Insane.
“That’s fine. I would rather you take the time to think this through thoroughly. We will support you no matter what decision you make. You’re a blessing wherever you are, and I don’t want to have to train up a new Beta, but I am damn proud the King and Queen of the supernaturals consider my family as worthy. You both are incredible.”
My sister wiped a tear from her eye. I knew she was worried I wouldn’t be there for her firstborn’s birth. My sister is about 10 years older than me, but Alpha Brant didn’t turn 18 until 6 years ago. She had already gone through her barren depression that hit around 100 years old, but Selene blessed them with a pup. It might be two pups. I move to hug her, “Hey hey… Even if I do go to the Castle, they got portals right? You let me know you’re in labor and I’ll be back before you know it. I will always be here for you. Always.” Her tears now flowed freely, having the opposite effect I was going for. “It’ll be okay, I promise. We’ll know better what we are being led to do in a couple of days. I probably won’t hear from Elentari till next week just before her graduation. Stop by the house and we’ll have a cuppa and talk this over together, sister to sister.” This had the effect I wanted and her tears started to dry up. A sweet smile started to appear. “That’s my big sister. I love you to the moon and back.” Our family has said that since well before I can remember.
“If there’s no more, Alpha, we’d like to get home so we can talk this over with our children. It’ll take a bit to get them all gathered, as a few have found their mates, so this may be a bit more complicated than we expected.” Alpha Brant nodded.
“That was all for now. But clean up your plates. Damn bottomless pit…” He was laughing at me. I pouted and called him a meanie butt, storming out the room. He always said I was cute when I pouted. Now it was time to talk to the family. We’ll see how this goes.
*Elentari POV* Everything was so much to take in. I felt like my world was caving in second by second. I slipped from the zone out of shock and started to move to my bed. All I wanted was to go to sleep and for all of this to be a bad dream. Arashi’s voice echoed in my head as I attempted to lay down telling me I had to pack before resting. I was suddenly really happy I spent the money I got from the life insurance policy on an SUV instead of the cute Prius I had been looking at. Yes, it was blue. I also paid three years of car insurance on it. The rest of my money was split into my stock portfolio that my mom set up for me and my savings account. Dividends were transferred into savings automatically and $300 was transferred to my checking each month so I could pay my phone bill and put gas in the car. It made me laugh that I was seen as the bad kid when I was the one being responsible. The spawns got money and it was gone instantly with video games and trivial crap. I started to pac
*Elentari POV* “This tastes more refreshing than normal.” He comments and looks in the water bottle. “You remembered lemon and mint!” He kissed the top of my head. “You realize it's your birthday, Starlight. I should be spoiling you, not the other way around.” This simple exchange made me happier than anyone could imagine. He hadn’t remembered my birthday in years, no one did, I handed him a plate of food and he sat down to dig in. “Good morning family!” Lyssandra says in her fake sing-song voice, “Smells like someone beat me to making the birthday breakfast.” She looked around at everyone else sitting down, and seemed like she was pouting, “I had wanted to make you breakfast as a treat.” “Thank you for the thought.” I told her. My wheels turned wondering what she had up her sleeve. “I wanted to make dad’s and my favorite breakfast. It’s been so long since we’ve had it, and it’s been years since anyone has celebrated my birthday so I figured if I wanted to celebrate, I had to do
*Elentari POV* “Lunar Guardian? Me? I’m just a normal teenager with nothing special about me. I didn't even know this existed until today. I don’t understand, Selene is real?” As I spoke the twins looked at each other, as if having a mental conversation. Little to my knowledge they were doing just that. They spoke at the same time. “We want to go with you.” Turning towards my parents. My sister pushed the book towards my mother. “If we are magical, we need training. Even though that book is my birthright, I don't want to learn from it. I’d rather it was destroyed.” At this point, I saw my sister in a new light. Almost a light of admiration. “It is not yours yet!” Lyssandra screeched. “I am still alive. As long as I live it is mine!” She reached for the Grimoire as if her life depended on getting the old book back in her hands. Before she could get to it, despite the pain it caused him, my brother grabbed it and kept it from her reach. “The book is evidence. It cannot be destroye
*Alaric POV* Seeing my baby for the first time since she was born overwhelmed me. At that time the plan had already progressed to my wife and Scott’s pretend relationship ending. We only needed it long enough to conceal her birth and for no one to think I was the father. My wife came up with the plan and she was so convincing that I almost severed our fated bond over it. She didn’t warn me first to get the most genuine reaction she could get out of me. It took me a month after they “broke up” to hear her out. I almost missed my chance to hold my child, just once. Home is a magical place. It has a literal living, breathing magic essence that brings the rivers, trees, and all of nature to life. There were very few Fae, or magical beings, that didn’t prefer to live here. Humans tended to believe Fae meant fairy, or that what they deemed to be mythical beasts, weren’t magical. But Fae is all those that belong to the world of Selene and magic. Our architecture, for those that prefer build
*Alaric POV* “Scottie and Stacie, you will need a full blood test done for us to find out your genetic composition. That way you can be prepared. Scott, I’d like for you to get one done as well. That way we can find out your full connection to the Fae world. We couldn’t do it sooner for Elentari’s safety, but I feel like there is more here than meets the eye. You weren’t chosen by random.” The gears in my head are turning and cranking quickly. We lead them up the cobblestone drive to the front of the buildings. The guards standing at attention open the gates for us. Their eyes were the only part of them that could be seen, but they were wide with surprise. The Kingdom knew my wife disappeared at some point and we almost lost our bond. The rumor of pregnancy went around but we refuted it using the living registry as proof. There was no child on record, so the rumor was put down. The castle knew, though. A room had appeared that none could enter. Her name was written in a beautiful, flo
*Elentari POV* Everything had been so overwhelming. Each minute it seemed there was something new to learn. I take in the sights and sounds. The castle is huge. I’ve never seen a building so big. The vivid colors and picturesque scenery has me enchanted. Stacie starts asking me about my drawings and I realize she’s right. I did draw this place. It felt like home. Like it was calling out to me and knew me. “Welcome home!” Serenity pulls me into the Zone. “You’ve finally made it! We’re all here again!” She’s so bubbly, I almost can’t stand it. “Fully energized, eh, Serenity?” Arashi has a smug look on her face. “She’s always like this when we return after being gone for so long. I can’t remember how long it’s been.” “Four hundred fifty years, eight months, two weeks, and three days,” Lucinda replies dryly. “And that was for a very short time.” Silk takes her turn to speak. “If our task is no longer viable with the physical body we possess, we return to Selene. But the four of us
*Elentari* I yawn and walk towards the far corner of the room where there is another door. I open it and it’s much more my style. A full-size bed with a black comforter that has the triple moon goddess symbol on it. This makes me smile. I take my shoes off and curl up in the comfy bed. Out of habit, I call out, “Echo, set an alarm for 3 hours.” To my surprise, I got a response telling me an alarm would wake me. Of course, my echo was with me. I’d be lost without it. Sleep overtakes me quickly as I've been up for over 24 hours. No sooner than my eyes are closed, I’m in the middle of a huge expanse that has various themes around it. One was a meadow with beautiful flowers, another a forest with beautiful lights and bright colors. A third had cliffs and caves with a gorgeous waterfall. The last one was a library with books that I couldn’t see the top of. This was amazing. I slowly walk around taking in the breathtaking view. I hear large wings flapping over my head and look up. A brilli
*Elentari* We left the room arm in arm, followed by Tanz. The pixie went across the hall and knocked on the doors of Dad and Scottie. I was shocked to see dad in a lilac polo shirt. It was almost poetic. He wore black slacks and black dress shoes. His hair was neatly combed, and I could tell he felt something was up. Scottie had a cream-colored polo and the same type of pants and shoes. “Damn...” I mutter, “I stick out like a sore thumb in this family.” Shaking my head. The three of them laugh and we retrace our steps following Tanz. She directs us down the stairs and through a series of hallways. I felt like I’d need a map to get through this place. We reach the dining hall. Belle and Alaric are already there, standing at the head of the table, casually dressed. I was suddenly very happy I didn’t change. The seats to the left of Alaric were empty, while standing next to Belle was the woman I saw in my dream. Wearing the outfit I saw her wearing. The only difference was her hair was
*Epilogue* The sleep was deep. It was meant to be. The safety of the subconscious allowed for growth beyond measure. The females would need sleep to aid them, the two tied by their mate bond more than the other. Those two will sleep for no less than a year. The other girl will sleep on and off for a week or two at a time. She doesn’t realize this yet, but it’s what must be done. Some that are to train her can only do so within her subconscious, The new deities will change the entirety of the universe as we know it and those that are unknown. A chilling wind crosses the brow of the sleeping girls, two in the meadow, one in a castle, but they all felt it. Power would be theirs. The power of three. The king and queen-to-be had a lot to learn as well. They didn’t know they would be taking over. Their confidence in themselves was shaking. Hopefully, they would realize they were meant for greatness and not insignificant. The previous generation held worry in their hearts alongside p
*Elentari*I was walking through the galaxy, stepping on thin air. My hair seemed to be made of the stars with nebulas within it. A shimmery glow surrounded my body and my skin became the deep void of the night sky. I felt a strength I had never known. Visions flew around my head. Beings from my life books, voices that felt familiar. Small pieces of knowledge became encyclopedias and volumes worth of knowledge. I saw strange beings with various colors of skin, different types of dragons, fae, vampires, pixies, itches, warlocks, werefolks, and ones I don’t have the words to describe. Each being spent hours pouring information to me. Histories, lore, policies, pantheons and so much more. It felt like weeks without a break. So many thoughts and new things to learn. Raza showed up as well, departing the histories of her people, explaining the blood of Bronzetail. They were the last line of Raza’s direct descendants. It made so much more sense now why she was targeted. Funny enough, no one
*Selene*She didn’t know it, but she hasn’t been using any of my powers for months. Everything she has accomplished has been under her own strength and goddess powers. She had no idea how strong she had become in such a short time. It made me proud. All of my children were born with their powers, so it wasn’t much of a learning curve for them. But Elentari started from scratch and was thrown into a world of peril, expected to perform flawlessly. She had been asleep for a couple of days. I suspected she would be for a few more days. Bringing someone out of a god induced sleep without direct permission was unheard of. Zeus didn’t fight us, waking him, but he didn’t aid us either. It was the most amazing feeling to be in my lovers arms again. It had been so long. The dream state was nothing compared to the real thing. His kisses made me melt. Our children came to visit, a couple at a time. They hadn’t seen him since he had been placed into his sleep state, so they were naturally taken
*Elentari*The next day, Selene brought the offenders before Adalith. Such a thing had not been done before. A mere mortal being sentenced by the Creator of All. It was unthinkable. Word spread like wildfire that a shifter tried to frame Apophis Bronzetail for the murder of his eldest child. Krysta was sentenced as an accomplice. The shifter was identified as a servant of Chaos, unworthy of a name. His sentence was to be stripped of his shifter powers, whipped for 365 days, 5 lashes per hour, then executed by Dragon Fire. He would not be allowed rebirth, forever in the void. Krysta was stripped of the name Bronzetail, forced to reclaim Bluewind. Adalith stripped her of her magic and sent her back to her coven to be punished by the coven mother. Selene added to her sentence that Krysta would never be able to bear children or a mate mark. She would never be allowed a partner at all. If she tried to defy this punishment, she would be subjected to Dragon Fire and her soul never to be re
*Aranelda*I stormed to the dungeons. This person was going to pay and pay dearly. I wouldn’t imagine who could do this to her. She knew it was going to happen too. She did everything she could to make sure it wouldn’t impact us. There was no way it wouldn’t though. My fiancée is laying in a coma. My mate was near death. The ones in the dungeon right now were the cause of it. Apparently my father had beat me down there, but I wasn’t going to be stopped from exacting my own brand of justice. “Apophis, what did you do??” A shrill woman’s voice flooded my ears. “Why are they talking as if you have a different wife and a daughter?” The words were dripping with self preservation. “Why are you pretending you don’t know who my wife and daughter are?” The man spat back. “Dad, who are these pathetic beings that are arguing with each other?” I let the disdain fall from my every word. “This,” He pointed to the woman, “Is a creature that identifies herself as Krysta Bronzetail and insists she
*Elentari*We arrived at the Bronzetail Manor, but we weren’t in a luxurious room as I expected to be. We were in what looked like cells. Eliza laid on a cot, her hand holding her throat as she propped herself up against a wall. The man I thought was her father held a blood soaked knife in his hand and was hurling insults at her. “You’re a worthless wretch. No good comes from having female offspring. Blessed of Raza… what foolishness. You couldn’t get the prince to yourself so now all you’re allowed is death. I have to pick up the pieces from your whorish ways. Loving a woman, are you kidding me?? You’re ridiculous. Worthless.” He spat at her. I raised my hand, freezing his in midair. Hep reached out his hand and retrieved the weapon from his hand. “Mr. Bronzetail.” I spoke aloud, using the full force of my authority. “You are sentenced to death for the attempted murder of Eliza Bronzetail. You will be escorted to the Royal dungeons by Hephaestus. Your act has been witnessed by myse
*Third Person*The party was in full swing, the entire world was introduced to the newly christened Duke and Duchess of Faerl. Of course, Stacie wouldn’t stay a duchess for long. Scottie beat Aranelda to the proposal, though. He stepped out onto the dance floor, Lily on his arm, as the DJ turned down the music. “And now, your new Duke of Faerl, Scott MaComb Jr would like to have everyone’s attention.” He held a microphone in one hand, clearing his throat. “So, I’m not good at speeches, so I figured I’d try and make sure I did this first. Sorry, Aran.” A few laughs went through the crowd. “Lily, you’ve felt the mate bond in full force for the last year. I’ve only had the pleasure of feeling it, in its complete glory, for less than a day. I have to say, there is no better feeling in the world than holding your hand. I know for our kinds, this is not the tradition. You mark, and mate, and whatnot. But due to my upbringing, I thought I was a human all along, which I now know is a fairyt
*Aranelda*It was just after midnight when I woke Stacie up. I could feel her distress through the bond. At least, I thought it was Stacie’s. I rushed to her room, finding her thrashing in her sleep on a tear soaked pillowcase. “Stacie, wake up!” Her sobs flooded my ears. She rolled over onto me, clinging for dear life. “Love, what is wrong? Tell me what is going on? Why are you so upset?”I could barely understand her words, something about Eliza, her not wanting to let go of the bond, that she was in danger. It was that moment that my stomach dropped. Kali was talking about Eliza. I couldn’t worry my mate with that though. I tried to soothe her as best I could while trying to calm myself. It would all be okay. The goddess wouldn’t let Eliza die, would she? “It’ll all be okay.” I promised her. I was promising myself just as much that it would all come to a happy conclusion. ‘Deep breaths in, slow exhale’ I kept thinking to myself, hoping it would calm both of us if I was able to cal
*Stacie*The spa day was wonderful, but having to spend that much time with your “ex” is exhausting. I don’t care who you are or how much grace you have within you. I took the day in stride, but I hoped tomorrow would be a better day. Heading out of the spa and back up to my room, I felt the all too familiar presence of the most beautiful woman in the world behind me. “What do you need, Eliza?” I asked without turning around. If I looked at her I might just crumble. “Need?” She repeated quietly. Her tone was different, somewhat alarming. I felt her still, even though we rejected each other. I wasn’t supposed to be able to feel her, but here we are. Her grief and guilt floods over me. “I’m not sure what I need. I don’t know what to do. Have you ever been so dedicated to someone that their wants always came before your own and you never truly thought about yourself, or your own happiness?” Her question hit a cord with me. “I hid who I am for far too long so I wouldn’t have to be in th
