The music was pulsating, the lights were flashing and the crowd was energized. Lucia claimed a spot on the dance floor, alongside Josh and Anna. She was lost in the rhythm, surrounded by strangers but it felt like she was the only one there.

Lucia always loved dancing, and the freedom of letting go on the dance floor was exhilarating. She spun and twirled, her hips swaying to the beat.

Avon watched from the sidelines, grinning at the sight of his friends letting loose. Drew, who had tagged along with Avon, was also dancing, his awkward moves drawing laughter from the crowd.

Lucia danced, letting the movement and the laughter shake away her annoying thoughts.

When she felt a hand on her waist, she turned to see Avon behind her and laughed again, at how ridiculous the evening had been and how much fun she was suddenly having.

He took hold of one of her hands and swung her around to face him and laughed back down at her. Other members of party joined their group and danced w

Avon’s gaze lingered on Lucia, his eyes drawn to her like a magnet. He wanted to sweep her into his arms, to feel her body pressed against his. Amy's voice cut through his reverie, her tone biting. "Can you please, for the next few minutes, pretend you gave a damn about my sister and take some decent pictures without ogling...her?" Avon sighed, feeling a pang of guilt. Amy's words struck a nerve. "Fine," he muttered, taking a deep breath. He turned back to the photographer, his expression neutral. Without looking at Amy, he added, "I did care about your sister." The words hung in the air, a subtle reminder of the complicated emotions that still lingered. Amy's eyes narrowed as she watched Avon laugh with Lucia, his arm casually slung over her shoulders. She felt a pang of irritation, which she quickly suppressed. What was wrong with her? She was happy for Avon, wasn't she? But as the night wore on, Amy found herself growing increasingly annoyed. Why was Avon so taken with

  • Pretend to be mine    Intimate encounter

As she sank into the pillows, he rose above her, a satisfied smile spreading across his face. She couldn't help but feel impressed - he had every right to be proud of himself. He showered her with gentle kisses, tracing a path up her body, from her stomach to her breasts, her neck, and finally, her lips. He settled in beside her, and she turned to face him, her hand drifting to his side. She marveled at the firmness of his chest and the trail of hair that disappeared beneath his waistband. This guy was incredible. "That was... beyond words," she admitted, still breathless. "You left me speechless." He leaned in, his lips meeting hers in a deeper, more passionate kiss. "I'm glad I had that effect on you." Her fingers toyed with the waistband of his boxers. "These need to go," she whispered, her eyes locked on his. "And something else needs to come into play," she added, her voice husky. He didn't hesitate, swiftly removing his underwear and rummaging through his bag for a

They kissed like they had days, weeks, years to do nothing but lie in this bed and explore each other. His fingers moved from her back to her neck, then to her hair. His lips touched her cheeks, her eyelids, and the tip of her nose, which surprised a giggle out of her. Not content to be passive, her hands ran down his chest, dancing over his nipples, pressing into his muscles, squeezing his hips. When her fingers lingered there, he said, “Aren’t you going to keep going?”At this moment, in this hotel room, this night? She would do whatever he wanted her to do. She slid down his body to where she knew he wanted her to go.“I really like the way you do that,” he said afterward, once he got his bre

  • Pretend to be mine    Making Amends

"I guess that's the whole story," he said, his eyes drifting away. "We dated, I messed up, I apologized, and now she's married to Josh – a great guy." She pulled the sheet tighter around herself and turned to face him. "So, attending the wedding was a way of making amends?" He leaned back against the pillows and finally met her gaze. "I suppose so. Maybe that's why I was dreading it – and craving a sandwich." He hoped to coax a smile from her, but her expression remained serious. Her eyes dropped, avoiding his. "Hey," he said softly, touching her arm. "I'm sorry. I should have been honest with you before you came over last night, instead of letting you find out another way." She met his eyes and nodded. “Okay,” was all she said. "Are you upset?" he asked, not wanting to prolong the conversation but concerned about her feelings. They didn't have much time left together. "I'm not upset," she replied, holding his gaze for a moment before her smile became more genuine. "I

"Didn't you just devour a ton of bacon?" she asked as he drove toward the Mission. "I burned it off, trust me," he replied with a smirk. "And I'm not hungry yet, but I know I will be soon. Let's grab burritos and secure a spot at the park Park. It's already sunny, and it's going to get crowded." She watched his profile as he drove, a little sad he had shaved that day. His smooth skin was nice against her face, but just the thought of the feel of his stubble last night on her cheeks, her lips, and her thighs made her shift in her set. As they set off towards the park, Lucia couldn't help but steal glances at Avon’s profile. The way the morning light danced across his features, accentuating the sharp lines of his jaw and the gentle curve of his nose, left her breathless. "Hey, are you okay?" Avon asked, catching her staring at him for the umpteenth time. Lucia’s cheeks flushed with warmth. "Yeah, I'm fine. Just enjoying the view," she replied, attempting to sound nonchalant des

They joined the end of the line, which was surprisingly long considering it was a cool evening. But Lucia was undeterred, bouncing up and down with excitement. "Come on, come on," she muttered, tapping her foot impatiently. Avon laughed. "Patience, my dear." Finally, after what felt like an eternity, they reached the front of the line. The ice cream lady, a friendly woman with a warm smile, called out, "Next in line!" Lucia and Avon stepped forward, scanning the colorful array of ice cream flavors on display. "I'll have a scoop of strawberry, please," Lucia said, her eyes shining with anticipation. "And I'll have a scoop of chocolate chip cookie dough," Avon added, handing over his money. The ice cream lady efficiently handed over their cones, and they stepped aside to lick their ice cream in happy silence. As they walked back to the car, licking their cones, Lucia turned to Avon with a contented sigh. "This is the perfect day." Avon smiled, his eyes crinkling at the

  • Pretend to be mine    Leveling the playing field

As she reached for her purse, Avon’s hands encircled her waist, holding her in place. His face was inches from hers, his smile intimate and genuine. This wasn't a smile for the cameras or to charm her into submission; it was a smile meant solely for her. "You think you can use your body to distract me while you sneak a peek at your phone?" Avon’s voice was low and teasing. Lucia shifted slightly, testing his grip. His hands tightened on her hips, sending a shiver down her spine. "You don't play fair, Hills," she whispered, her voice barely audible. Avon’s smile grew, his eyes crinkling at the corners. "I'm just leveling the playing field," he whispered back, his breath dancing across her skin. She grinned and pushed away from him for real. He released her but kept his arm around her as she lay on her side next to him and checked her phone, her head on his chest. She ignored the texts from Diana —no way she could answer them with him right there—and went straight to the ema

She sprang back to life, her digital presence humming as she continued with her tasks. "Okay, resuming routine," she whispered to herself. Lucia began puttering around the house, checking on various smart devices. She adjusted the thermostat, dimmed the living room lights, and started a load of laundry. She changed out of the dress he’d almost torn off her and into yoga pants and a tank top (and underwear), unloaded her dishwasher, went through the rest of the work emails that had come in this weekend, and made a to-do list for the workweek. As she worked, she also tackled her virtual tasks. But all the time she thought about Avon. The way he’d laughed whenever she’d laughed; the way he kept touching her, like his hands belonged on her skin; the way he’d smiled at her in the middle of the night like he was so happy to have her there with him in his bed; the way he ate his burrito with tortilla chips as utensils and blushed when she teased him about it. The whole time she hoped s

Lucia picked up the glass with the cocktail in it and sat down on his lap. He wrapped his arms around her and as she brought the glass to his lips. “Drink.” she smiled. The house felt empty without Avon. She heard Asher cry, so she walked upstairs to get him from his crib. It had been days since she’d seen or talked to Avon. She thought about the way he looked at her, the way he made her feel like she was the only person in the world. Just then, her mom came into the room and told her that Avon was on his way over

Lucia paced back and forth, trying to comfort Asher as he screamed her head off in the morning. She bounced him, walked him around the house, sat down, rocked him in the rocking chair, and nothing soothed him. Avon came up behind her in the living room and took him from her. “What’s wrong, ash? Daddy’s here.” Lucia rolled her eyes because sometimes Avon thought he was the cure-all where he was concerned. When he didn’t stop screaming, he looked at her. “He may be teething. Run your finger along his gums and see if you feel anything,” Avon said. She took her finger and put it in Asher's mouth. “Yep, I feel a lump right here,” she said. ‘Aw, my poor baby,” he pouted as he kissed his head. “I’ll go and get the baby Tylenol. That should help her him better.” Lucia followed Avon into the kitchen, and she took the Tylenol from the cupboard. She gave Avon his dosage and they sat with him on the couch. “I can take him, sweetheart. You have to get up for work in a couple of hours.”

The next morning, Lucia awoke before Avon. As her was still at his parents’ house and after the party last night, they had sex all over the penthouse, taking advantage of the fact that Asher wasn’t here to interrupt them. While she stood in front of the mirror, she put her blonde hair up in a high ponytail. As she brushed her teeth, Avon stood in the doorway of the bathroom in nothing but his pajama bottoms, with his muscular arms against the doorframe. “What?” she smiled. “Nothing. I’m just admiring your beauty before we part ways in a couple of hours.” She spit in the sink and rinsed her mouth before walking over to him and placing her hands on his bare and sculpted chest. “I hate the fact that we aren’t going to see each other until tomorrow.” “I know. Me too,” he said as he held her face and kissed her lips. “I'll be home before you know it” Avon said. After Avon left for work, Lucia pulled out her phone and dialed Diana's number, excitement building up inside her. Hey, g

Just then, Avon walked into the cafeteria, his eyes scanning the room until they landed on Lucia’s. He smiled and made his way over, but not before noticing the new doctor. "Hey, who's that?" Avon asked, nodding towards the doctor. Lucia shrugged. "No idea. Must be new around here." Avon's eyes narrowed slightly as he watched the doctor, who was now chatting with a group of nurses. He picked up his phone and dialed Lucia's number, a smile spreading across his face as he waited for her to answer."Hey, beautiful," he said, trying to sound suave. "Well, I have a proposition for you. How would you like to be my date for dinner tonight?"There was a pause on the other end of the line, and for a moment, he worried that Lucia might say no. But then she spoke up, her voice filled with excitement."I'd love to! It's been ages since we've had a night out just the two of us."He grinned, feeling a sense of relief
