"Ow! Hot!" Hayle finally noticed the milk spilling onto her hand. It was enough to make her hand turn red. She had deliberately kept it at 70 degrees Celsius to ensure the milk’s nutrients remained intact.
"I'm sorry for startling you." Lucas quickly grabbed Hayle's hand and led her to the sink, intending to administer first aid by running cold water over the burn.
This sudden act of care surprised Hayle. For three months, she had desperately sought his attention, sending countless messages, calling him almost every second, and searching for him everywhere. None of it had yielded any results.
But now, after Hayle had stopped bothering him for a moment, focused on her plans, and disappeared from his sight, he suddenly started showing his old caring self again.
This almost left Hayle astonished. Her hopes surged, but she tried to contain them. Was this what they called a bond between a father and his unborn child?
"I heard you were sick?" Lucas asked, looking at the woman beside him.
His gaze was kind, but somehow not as warm as she remembered. Was it because of the deep hurt he had caused her?
"Yes. I'm fine now." Hayle pulled her hand away. The image of him affectionately kissing Sonia at their engagement party flashed in her mind, stirring her emotions and making her feel nauseous. "I have to go."
Hayle hurried out of the pantry, leaving Lucas slightly furrowing his brow, wondering why she suddenly changed after a few weeks of not coming to the hospital.
Lucas sniffed his hand, which had a bit of Hayle's drink on it. He frowned even more. It was clearly the smell of chocolate milk, and since when did Hayle like to drink milk?
He glanced at the pantry trash can. His face showed even more surprise when he saw a package of pregnancy milk. Was this what Hayle was drinking? And there was no other packaging but that of pregnancy milk.
Lucas's eyes widened, and his face showed incredible disbelief.
She’s pregnant?!
After leaving the pantry, Hayle felt incredibly nauseous, and her breathing was labored, making it hard to breathe. She had to calm herself down to inhale fresh air, even to the point of tears, not because she was crying, but because she was truly holding back from vomiting. Being next to him felt suffocating. There was an aversion and a sense of rejection. This was vastly different from what she had imagined. Was this a sign that the insemination she had undergone was successful?
Why did she feel uncomfortable around Lucas? Did her baby know that he had treated her so poorly, causing her so much pain? Could it be true? But this was his own child?
She was supposed to wait 3-7 more days to check. But seeing these signs, she had to check immediately. Maybe tomorrow morning, as morning urine has the highest HcG levels for pregnancy hormones. Would the result be positive?
In the early morning, Hayle tiptoed to the bathroom. She couldn't sleep at all. In her hand was a pregnancy test, ready to use. This wasn't unfamiliar to her; as an obstetrician, this was something quite routine.
However, this was the first time she was doing it for herself. After a month of dealing with injections, tearing her body open just to insert her prospective baby, eating foods she never imagined she would eat, and battling extraordinary mood swings, here she was!
Hayle took a deep breath and collected her morning urine. Nervously, she opened three different pregnancy tests. Some required drops, others needed to be dipped into the urine. For some reason, this time, as the urine slowly climbed and formed lines, it felt like an eternity. Usually, it happened so quickly.
As the lines gradually appeared, Hayle's eyes widened. Her face showed disbelief. Could it be? This was the result!
Jacob rubbed his eyes and face haphazardly, rolling over with a sleepy expression. He yawned several times before finally reaching for his phone, which had been ringing for a while. He saw Hayle's name on the screen. Squinting at the phone, he realized it was only 4 AM, and this woman was waking him from his sweet dreams.
"Hayle! What's going on?!" Jacob's sleepy voice was thick. He rubbed his face again. If it wasn't important, he was ready to scold her openly.
"Jacob! It's positive! Positive!" Hayle screamed with joy on the other end, jumping up and down in her bathroom. She quickly remembered she shouldn't do that. Even though it was positive, her pregnancy was still very delicate. The first trimester was crucial.
"What?!" Jacob's eyes, which had been nearly closed, now widened, perfectly round, as if they would pop out. He sat up abruptly, making his head spin. He wasn't sure if it was because of the sudden movement or the news. "How?! How can it be positive?"
Hayle frowned at his response. "We made it happen, don't you remember?! You did the insemination! Are you getting senile?"
"But... but, with a 39% chance! Oh, damn!" Jacob slapped his forehead. His buried nightmare from a few weeks ago resurfaced. What now? Especially since Rosita had disappeared without a trace, leaving him with no one to explain why this was happening.
"Why? Aren't you happy?" Hayle asked, confused by Jacob's odd behavior.
Jacob immediately widened his eyes. "Oh no, I'm happy. Yay! Positive," Jacob said, sounding forced.
"What's wrong with you?" Hayle asked, even more puzzled.
"It's just that I wasn't fully awake. You woke me up at four in the morning. Now I have to be excited because you're pregnant. I'm not the father of that child. Why did you wake me up first?" Jacob covered his nervousness, fully awake now. "By the way, are you going to tell him now?"
"Um, no." Hayle walked back to her bed, gently stroking her stomach, which felt ticklish. There was life inside her.
"No?"
"Yes. I'll wait until my fetus is 10-14 weeks old. I'm sure he'll request a DNA test, and I'll do it even before he asks. I'll throw the DNA results in front of him and Sonia. That way, he can't deny it." Hayle smiled slyly. She could already picture it all in her mind. At that moment, her pain would be avenged. What would the director do when he found out she was carrying the baby of his cherished future son-in-law!
"Yes! Yes!" Jacob shouted, suddenly bursting with energy. Hayle was startled, especially since he had just said he wasn't fully awake, and now he was yelling into his phone. "Oh, thank God!" Jacob whispered before returning to the call. "Yes! I support you! Do the DNA test first, then we'll see the results! Don't rashly tell him! Good girl! Genius woman!" Jacob felt like kissing Hayle if she had been there.
This would indeed be proof, showing whether they made a mistake or not. Jacob promised himself he would go to church every day just to pray that he hadn't made an error.
"Alright then. I want to rest a bit before heading to the hospital. Jacob, thank you, I'm so thrilled!" Hayle said with a sweet smile. Finally, luck was truly on her side.

"Don't you want to eat this steak, Doctor?" asked the cafeteria lady at the hospital, knowing well that Hayle loved steak. She always saved a portion for the woman she considered the friendliest at the hospital.
Hayle's face wrinkled with desire, but she knew she couldn't eat undercooked food like that. But... if it's well done, isn't it okay?
"Ma'am, can I have it well done this time? And I don't want the salad, just the meat and fries." Hayle had to settle for eating meat cooked more than she preferred.
"Well done?" the cafeteria lady asked in disbelief.
"Yes. And when it's ready, could you bring it to my usual table?" Hayle smiled broadly, a smile that hadn't been this bright in the past three months.
"Uh, okay, Doctor." The cafeteria lady was still puzzled. As long as she had worked there, Hayle had always been against eating well-done steak. She wouldn't like it at all. But why the change now?
This also raised questions in Lucas's mind, who was a few lines behind Hayle in the queue. Seeing the change in her eating habits was a clear sign she was pregnant.
"Lucas, darling!" A cheerful voice drew the attention of many in the cafeteria, including Lucas.
He immediately greeted his fiancée, Sonia, with a broad smile. Sonia shamelessly planted a kiss on Lucas's cheek, making him smile. His eyes glanced at Hayle, who seemed indifferent, happily pouring something into her glass, likely pregnancy milk again.
"What are you looking at?" Sonia asked, frowning. She noticed Lucas's gaze had wandered. Her face immediately soured. "Were you looking at her?"
"No, no. Why did you come here?" Lucas asked, looking into Sonia's eyes, making sure she wouldn't get upset. He knew about his past with Hayle.
"Oh, I wanted to invite you to eat. My father is inviting you to dinner." Sonia said cheerfully, with an air that some people thought was intentionally showy. But who cared?
"Alright, let's go now." Lucas took his fiancée's hand. Sonia glanced at Hayle, who seemed to be smiling to herself for some reason, enjoying her own company. This, of course, made Sonia unhappy. What was up with her rival?
Once again, Hayle seemed unfazed. She knew that showing her dislike would only please those who didn't like her. Besides, her brain was now filled with oxytocin, dopamine, serotonin, and endorphins—the happiness hormones.
Of course, her happiness was rooted in her pregnancy. For the first time, besides Lucas, she had someone she could love wholeheartedly. For the first time in her life, she would have someone connected to her by blood. This was incredibly impactful for someone who, as long as she could remember, had never had anyone.
But when Hayle lifted her head, she froze as her eyes met someone across from her. The figure seemed to exude an aura that turned the once bright and cheerful cafeteria into a dark and somber place. Suddenly, Hayle felt as if she was trapped in a room alone with a man who stared at her with a cold and expressionless face.
Hayle couldn't move a single muscle. She couldn't even turn her head to check her surroundings. As if hypnotized, her eyes remained fixed on the man whose gaze seemed to strip her alive. The man, with his sharply defined features and aesthetically superior looks, stood silent for a few seconds.
Then he rose, his tall, model-like stature making Hayle hold her breath.
Now, panic shot through Hayle's brain as the man slowly walked toward her with an overwhelming aura that somehow deeply affected her, making her heart race like a cheetah on the savannah.
“Wh-who... are you?”
Hayle's eyes widened as she tried to read the mysterious man who stopped just a few feet in front of her. His gaze remained unrelenting. But, just as suddenly as their encounter began, the man walked away without a word, leaving behind a whirlwind of unanswered questions. For a few moments after the man disappeared, the dark aura he brought with him lingered. Hayle had to catch her breath, clutching her still-pounding chest. It might have seemed exaggerated, but that's how she felt."Doctor? Here's your steak.""Oh! Yes?!" Hayle was startled by the cafeteria attendant's arrival, who frowned again. "Thank you." Hayle tried to smile, but her eyes drifted back to the corridor where the man had disappeared.Who was he?Why did she feel so threatened?Hayle shook her head again. Ever since she started this journey, she had become more anxious about her surroundings. Yes, the man was nobody, and it was just a coincidence that he looked at her! She didn’t know him, they had never met, and on
"Ahk! Who does she think she is, acting like that towards me!" Sonia fumed as she watched Hayle walk away."There, there, darling. Why are you here all of a sudden?" Lucas asked, approaching his fiancée, gently holding her arms and rubbing them softly, trying to calm her down.Sonia narrowed her eyes and shot him a sharp look, her strong features becoming even more pronounced with her stern expression."Why shouldn't I be here? This hospital belongs to my family! What were you two doing in here?!" Sonia snapped. Of course, she felt extremely jealous. Lucas and Hayle had just ended their relationship a few months ago. She was naturally afraid that Lucas might still have feelings for Hayle, and even the slightest provocation from Hayle could make Lucas go back to her. She didn't want to lose the most perfect man in her eyes."Nothing. We weren't doing anything. We just happened to be in the same room. You don't need to be angry. Haven't I chosen you, Sonia?""That woman must have done i
"Should we try to wake her up, Sir?" Roberto asked, accompanying Jaxter in watching Hayle, who was still deeply asleep on the bed. They kept a considerable distance to observe her. That was all the man had been doing so far."No need. Have you found out who sent them?" Jaxter asked, looking at Roberto slowly."Yes. It's the fiancée of Miss Hayle's ex-boyfriend. She asked them to teach Miss Hayle a lesson. She is the daughter of the director who owns the hospital where Miss Hayle works," Roberto explained what he had found out.Jaxter just nodded slowly and stood up from his seat. "Warn her and arrange for security here until she wakes up.""Yes, Sir." Roberto immediately followed Jaxter's steps as he now walked out of the room, leaving Hayle alone in the hotel room."How could you not do anything to her?!" shouted Sonia with an angry face. She thought the thugs she had hired had given Hayle a good lesson to make her regret ever defying Sonia."What do you mean how could?! Our lives we
"God, I'm doomed!" Jacob hit his head hard, the sound echoing through his office. His body slumped into his office chair, his face a picture of panic and bewilderment. "How can this be negative! Ahk! Whose child is this?" he muttered in a panic. He felt like dying right then. His panic surged suddenly, making his body feel incredibly hot. Whose seed had been planted in his friend's womb if the DNA test results between Lucas and the baby were only 24%?"Damn it! What should I do?" Jacob ruffled his always neat hair, trying to think of a way to prevent this situation from getting worse. Unfortunately, his mind was drawing a blank. How was he supposed to tell Hayle this?Jacob was silent for a moment. His face showed that he was processing all this information in his head, which felt like it was about to explode. Then, suddenly, his tense face wrinkled, as if he had just thought of something.Yes! Why not do that! That was the best solution. Hayle would get what she wanted, and no one wo
"It's impossible!" said Hayle, looking visibly shocked by what she had just heard. "But the sample had your name on it!" Hayle couldn't have taken the wrong sample. She had even checked it thoroughly.Lucas took a deep breath, his face contorted in anguish. He wanted to say something, but couldn't find the words."It can't be true, right? You just said that to make me terminate my pregnancy because you prefer Sonia over me and this baby?! You coward!" yelled Hayle, growing increasingly frustrated, pushing Lucas's body away from her with such force that he staggered. She then quickly ran away from him and briskly walked out of the room.Hayle immediately felt disoriented. She held her lower abdomen, which felt slightly tense. Trying to breathe easier because she had been feeling uncomfortable around him since earlier. Hayle stopped in a small hallway where she felt safe to calm herself down. She regulated her hurried breaths with her pounding heart. No! It's impossible! There's no way
"Jacob!" Hayle shouted, her voice trembling as she tried to contain her emotions, "What is this? How did this happen?!"The woman's face grew redder, her eyes blazing with fiery emotion. She glared at Jacob with a piercing stare, making him feel uneasy. Hayle had never been angry with him before, and now she seemed furious.Jacob just stared back at Hayle, his face a picture of confusion. He didn't know why the test results hadn't been replaced by Juli's yet. His entire head felt itchy now. Ah, foolishness Why hadn't he checked it earlier?"Jacob, about that?" Jacob hesitated, searching for the right words to explain the situation. He stood up from his seat, looking at Hayle with regret and confusion."Jacob!" Hayle exclaimed again, her mind racing. She tried to keep her emotions in check, knowing it wasn't good for her child, but the heat in her temples made her voice rise, "I need an explanation!"Hayle's hand clenched, her eyes piercing Jacob. Jacob swallowed hard, his eyes fixed o
"Ah Good, everything is fine. Your pregnancy is also fine. This might be because you're too emotional. So, control your emotions!" Jacob pressed the ultrasound machine on Hayle's lower abdomen, which still felt a bit crampy but not as severe as before. After he lay her down on the examination table, her condition improved significantly.Hayle took a deep breath and looked at what was on the monitor. She watched closely because she didn't fully trust this man anymore. Luckily, what Jacob said was true."But you need to do a lot of bed rest. I think your pregnancy is a bit weak." Jacob looked at her again. Although it wasn't a problem now, but the cramps in the lower abdomen during early pregnancy are a sign that something is not right. "So, what?" Jacob asked, putting down the ultrasound machine and looking at his friend's face, which was actually quite attractive. Hayle should be able to get another man instead of being stuck with Lucas."I don't know." Hayle exhaled and quickly turne
13“Hah?!” Hayle opened her eyes, which immediately widened in shock. She quickly sat up and realized she was lying on a large bed in a room that was slightly ominous, yet in a brief glance, it seemed luxurious.Hayle immediately became alert. She scanned the room, finally realizing she was left alone in it. She slowly got down from the bed, feeling her body shiver due to the cold air in the room. Slowly, she looked at everything in the room, starting from all the doors to the window that showed the scorching sunlight. It was already morning. It seemed she hadn't woken up all night. No wonder her stomach was extremely hungry and almost nauseous.Hayle tried to open each window in the room. Unfortunately, all of them were closed and couldn't be opened at all. The only hope for her to get out of the room was the carved door that was quite large. She walked quietly so no one would notice she was awake. However, just as she was about to reach the door, it suddenly opened, making Hayle jum
"How was it?" asked Hayle approaching her husband. Seeing Jacob only gave her a faint smile. Of course it made Hayle very curious. How did the man meet his wife.Actually Hayle really wanted to witness it. But, she had her own business to take care of Zave's lecture that she had promised a few weeks ago. Therefore, she could not cancel this."They just talked for a while." Jaxter answered his wife's curiosity."And then? What did they talk about? Did they talk about bringing Rui?" Hayle with a very curious face. There was actually one thing that made Hayle a little worried about all this. They were going to take Rui and keep the two of them apart. Because after all Hayle -she knew this was very selfish- had taken care of and loved Rui with all her heart."I don't know what they're talking about. I wasn't inside with them.""Ha?" Hayle wrinkled her forehead with an incredulous face. "Why aren't you even with them. I want to know what they're talking about." Hayle was really upset why e
"You put her in the Isolation room?" Jacob asked with a deep frown on his face."It's better to keep her from escaping. There are many things that will happen if she gets out of here. I don't think I need to explain, do I?" Jaxter seemed to just stare straight at the hallway that would lead them to a room that was quite secluded there.Jacob played with his lips. He slowly walked, fortunately Jaxter was understanding enough to match his pace."Thank you for hosting her here." Jacob lifted the corner of his lips before glancing at the man whose facial water had not even changed. "I know that you intentionally put her here for her own good too. You must know that her enemies are everywhere. Even my family is after her.""I just wanted to fulfill my wife's wish. To live in peace." Jaxter didn't seem to care what Jacob said. They stood in front of the steel door that was tightly closed."You can imprison him anywhere. Maybe underground, in a secluded place. You could have even just elimin
"Rui a lot of things happened before you were born. Both your adoptive family and your biological family. We may not be able to be like most parents. Our previous lives will leave you dumbfounded. But, you don't have to think about what happened before you were born. I just want to say, whatever ever happened to me, I will do it again as long as I can get a daughter like you." Jacob held the princess's hand very tightly. Staring at her hazel nets that looked so beautiful and drowning."I knew you would ask about what happened to your real mother." Jacob pursed his lips. He took a deep breath and grabbed something from the nightstand drawer beside his bed. That made him frown. "This is a picture of your mother. I don't want you to not know her."Jacob handed over the cell phone he took earlier. He asked Roberto to find any photos of Ice that might still exist. And, luckily, there was one of her when she was still undercover in Laurence's group.Rui took the cell phone in her father's ha
"Eh? You." Rui was startled when she came out of her father's hospital room and saw the figure of a man who seemed to be walking towards her place."Yes. I heard your father was taken to the hospital, is he okay?" asked Arzhiel who immediately came to this hospital when he heard the news."Yes. But he's fine, he just woke up." Rui smiled faintly at this man who could make her heart feel uneasy."So, why aren't you inside?" Arzhiel wrinkled his forehead. "Do you want to do something?""No, I didn't. Mrs. Hayle and Clay's father wanted me to go out for a moment. They want to talk to Jacob's father. So I'll just go out." Rui said it in a slightly mischievous tone. I don't know, it's hard to act casual in front of people we like."Oh, I see, so I can't go in there yet either." Arzhiel looked at the door of the room. "I saw this little cafe near the hospital garden. It's not far, want to wait there instead?"Rui hearing that was a little startled and raising her eyebrows, she nodded slowly
"Rui ...." Hayle stared at her daughter to which Rui immediately responded."Yes? Mom?" Rui showed a subtle streak on her face, following the question that fell from her lips."I know that Rui probably has many things to ask. But, is it okay if you, Mom, and Jacob's father talk first?" Hayle gently tried to give understanding to her daughter. She knew that it was not difficult to usually talk to this sweet girl.Rui pursed her lips and nodded for a moment. Although there were indeed a lot of questions in her head but Rui couldn't force herself to stay there. One of her principles said that it was better not to know what she shouldn't know. Or maybe not yet.Jacob smiled proudly at how the princess behaved. Although he was reluctant to release the delicate grip of his daughter. But it was something they had to do. The three of them stared at Rui's departure who soon disappeared behind the door of the infirmary."I'm glad you guys took care of her to become such a great girl. I don't th
The door slowly opened. Making all the hearts of the people outside the door beat faster. When Jacob saw the figure of a woman sitting at the end of a fairly narrow room, on an old-looking bed. Curled up as if frightened with her hair loose over her face.Jacob frowned, not really having any expectations about how the woman who was predicted to be his wife was doing."Ice." Hayle walked into the room. Leaving the two men who seemed to be still observing the situation inside Ice's hospital room.As usual, Hayle sat at the end of the bed closest to her. Always trying to communicate well with the woman who never even looked at her."I'm here again, but this time I'm not alone with my husband. Would you like to see who came with us?" Hayle said it as gently as possible. It was always like that if she was dealing with this woman because according to Hayle, that was how to treat someone like this Ice.But, even though Hayle had seduced the woman. Of course Ice didn't seem to understand what
"Good morning!" the cheerful, friendly voice filled the room where Hayle was on duty, if not the kitchen. The woman raised her eyebrows and smiled slightly. "Good afternoon, Jac.""Yes! Yes! No need to emphasize it. But it's early in Alaska. I guess it is." Jacob rubbed his face. He still looked sleepy."The time difference between here and there is only an hour Jac, so I guess it's already daytime in Alaska." Hayle shook her head. Even at this age, she still couldn't let go of her innocence."Yeah. Every now and then make me happy Hayle by just following what I say." Jacob made a little annoyed face at being corrected by this woman."Eat your breakfast, or actually brunch. After that take your medicine. You have to take it, right?" Hayle said. Yesterday she saw him taking his medicine after their warm dinner."Not really. It's just for pain relief. Yesterday's flight made my leg ache, so I took it. It's quiet, even though four bullets have gone through my body. I'm overall very healt
"Why did you say something like that earlier Jax?" asked Hayle who glanced at her husband as she rubbed lotion all over her body after she finished putting on her clothes after cleaning herself."About what?" Jaxter took off the shirt he was wearing one by one. After his wife it was time for him to take a shower."About Ice."Jaxter did not answer immediately. Tickling the curiosity and attention of Hayle who immediately tried to see what happened to her man's face."Do you still suspect that Ice might betray us again?" Hayle asked."There's no harm in being on guard. We already have the life we dreamed of all this time, I won't let a single person ruin it." Jaxter glanced at his wife with a rather sharp gaze. Making Hayle unable to say anything. In a life like the one they lived. Tranquility was a high price they had to pay with so many sacrifices before."So about when will you let us see him. I'm sure Jacob and Rui will want to see Ice." Hayle tried to be cooperative with her husba
"At first I can't remember anything, I woke up in a hospital bed in Hawaii. All I knew was that my whole body was in a lot of pain and I couldn't get out of bed at all. The doctor who treated me said that I had been in a coma for more than half a year." Jacob recounted what he experienced after what happened to him. Everyone in the house was silent, they were listening to what this man was saying. Even so, his hand continued to hold Rui's hand."Then when did you get your memories?" asked Arzhiel who was even more curious about this man's story. Moreover, what he knew was that this man was not in an accident as told by his parents. Instead, he was attacked by people they didn't know."It took a long time for me to remember. About 3 years after the incident, I had a serious memory disorder. I even forgot everything. And, suddenly I woke up with a terrible headache, then I remembered my name and some glimpses of my previous life.""At that moment you remembered Rui?" asked Hayle now who
