"What are you doing here?" Leonardo arose from behind his desk, a finger pressed against the table and an arch coming between his brows. Isabella shivered, not knowing why in that moment, she did not move. He inched closer to her her, coming round the table.

"Are you stalking me, woman?"

The scent of him piercing through her nose, that although it was just one night they were together, she could remember it, She could feel it—and could almost hear the exasperated moans from her lips. His shoulders were clothed in an expensive dior suit she was sure was worth a luxury but that night she'd seen them.

Her nails had dug into them, whilst drawing him closer.

A lot had changed since seven years, her whole life had. Now she never thought she'd meet the father of her kids, let alone have her as her boss, but somehow here she was. Leonardo Carter, a man feared by all, and the only man that she knew.

Their eyes met and she almost choked on the lump that slid down her throat. She was like a mute, words had failed her as she froze in that very moment, watching his patience grow thin. He was more than the most wealthy man in all of Chicago to her, more than the curly dark hair that fell upon his shoulders and his lusty green eyes that glinted like an always-working charm.

She flashed back to that night, him standing across from her.

And wandered how much her life would have changed if she had just kept to her seat—if she was never even at that bar. Isabella shook her head. She had to tell him. He was the father of Emily and Ryan and had the right to know.

Then why was it so hard then?

Why was it so hard to do the right thing? She fought back tears, standing there. This was a disaster, and all because she couldn't control herself. The door immediately barged open, air Daniel standing just in the middle of them.

She was grasped out of trance, turning her face to him. And so was Leonardo, who'd taken every second to assess her as well. Was it her hair—which was a lot shorter and darker. There was no way he'd recognize it from that night. She'd cut it during post-patum, wanting somewhat of a fresh start.

Could he know? He could not.

To her, she was the woman from the airport who'd let a beggar get away. And if anything, the woman he hated most in this world.

He retracted his hands in a fist, brushing past Daniel's shoulders. "You have uhm—" Her supervisor shuddered at the Ceo's frantic movements. "A meeting" He heaved a deep breath when he had gone out. And he wasn't just the only one, Isabella as well.

Her fingers ran through her lancid hair as she faced heavenward.

"You owe me one" Daniel held the door open for her and she turned to him, wit dry eyes now. "Come, let me show you around" He said, holding a clipboard in a firm clasp. Tossing the emerald apron to her, he slipped it over her head to tie a knot right above her waist. "Thank you" Isabella felt obliged to mutter.

"I'm more of a materialistic person" Daniel scoffed, and she darted her eyes away from his, repelling his sarcasm. "I'm joking" He said before they both came to a halt in front of a door. He pushed in a sliver key, sliding the lock out of place before opening it—it was the newly renovated kitchen, with a dedicated section for pastries, one whose aura roped Isabella in.

It was close to an orgasm for her, how shiny everything was, how new and how refreshing the scent as well. "I'm supposed to work here" Her burgundy converse creaked against the tiled floor as she stared around. "Wow" She exclaimed.

"It's a dream." Daniel croaked, his hands behind him. The moment her eyes met his, she caught a half-hearted smirk and wondered why he was so nice to her. Most supervisors weren't always this way, especially back in the city, she'd heard. "It's beautiful."

"Even for me" He scoffed.

"Well it's all yours" He stepped forward, dangling the key in her face and she heaved a deep breath. "That's if you want the job, Tony told me you were still in between and needed to see the place. I figured this would do the trick" He said, voice as deep as the pacific ocean and a scrutinizing gaze he ushered.

"I know i'd jump at this idea, and i know you want it" He placed it to the table, inching closer to Isabella. "Then what is holding you back?" He asked. He watched how swiftly her mood changed, almost like it wasn't intentional. And then her eyes darkened.

"If it's about Leonardo, i get he's a little controversial" He said.

"Controversial?" She echoed and he scoffed. "Maybe the most hated and coveted man in all of Chicago would be an understatement but he's calm, i mean. It hasn't opened yet but you'd barely ever see him. I heard he has a whole network of hotels like this around the country and the only reason he's here is just to get this place up and running" David narrated.

"When?" Was the only she said in reply and he pulled away.

"When does the tragedy come to an end?"

"Please don't tell him i ever said that" Isabella turned red as she faced him—something Daniel wasn't sure was attractive or hilarious or even both. "I'm cool" Daniel whispered and she let out a soft chuckle. "Yes, you are" Isabella agreed, for a moment catching herself lacking smiling at a man.

The truth was she'd never thought about anyone that way since that night—since Leonardo. There were guys that did hit on her, and guys she was sure wanted to ask her out but that could not happen. It was something she couldn't let herself think of.

There was always something in the way.

She probably thought she'd never date anyone one year at least after she has her babies, and one year turned to two. To three, to four until seven whole years passed. And she hadn't gotten her libido back, until that moment she was in the crystal perfect work station, standing right opposite Daniel. She smirked, imitating him.

"It does get better, i promise."

"You have me" He winked his eyes before drawing close the door and she filled her lungs with air, spreading her arms wide to turn three-sixty. She never thought she'd reached this level in her baking career—never thought she'd be here. And this was a moment she wanted to share with her best friend.

"It's perfect, Isabella" Joan yelled from across the phone, as Isa showed her around. "I'm so proud of you!" She exclaimed, voice overshadowing the beats that reverberated the club she worked.

"So does that mean you're going to take it?"

"Of course i am, i'm literally in Norman with an aunt and two kids" She blurted out, chuckling. But then her mind was poisoned with the thought of him like it did every two seconds.

And that smile vanished from her lips.

"There is one thing though" Isabella thought of breaking the news to Joan that very moment but the line went static just before it cut. "Hello" Her words were met with silence. "Fucking network" She cussed, tossing the phone to the table.

Isabella not only had to make a decision but she had to make the right one. And as sat in that motile chair, staring at the contract papers in front of her, she realized she already had an answer.

She already knew the right thing to do.

"I've signed it" After about half an hour, Isabella walked back to the front desk where Daniel was stood and handed him the papers. His gaze fell to her slender hands, muffling a smile. "It's about time" He stretched his hands and she reluctantly took it."You'll be around tomorrow, won't you?" Daniel asked, to the sheepish glare that was the audience of the receptionist and Isa darted her eyes across the room. "I'm not sure yet" She said and Daniel pulled away with a frown. "You work here now, Isabella""You wouldn't want to miss the grand opening."Isabella nodded as if giving it a thought. "I'll think about it, Daniel—" She caved in and he gave a coaxed stare. Isabella made her way towards the elevator, feeling Daniel's stare at the back of her head. She clicked the button to go down and she heard the shrill chuckles between the receptionist and him.A smile crept to the corner of her lips as she stepped in—maybe it was time to get back into dating, and it took Daniel for her to re

Joan’s shot glass rammed into the marble counter, making a clinch sound. The symphony of the orchestra set the mood in the large banqueting hall—themed with strident silver and turquoise. The latter matched with the dinner gown that Joan wore, out dressing even the staff at the event. And Isabella was right next to her with a simple high-slitted diamond gown. She’d only worn it back in high school and it only needed a few touches to resize. It comforted her that she hadn’t added that much weight over the past seven years. Her eyes fell on Joan, downing what was her nth drink that night. There was a sudden applause as Daniel mounted the stage with a woman a few inches taller than him. “We welcome you to the grand opening of Starlight’s very own, Marriott here in Norman, Chicago” The applause continued as his eyes wavered the expensive crowds for Isabella. She grabbed her phone from her purse. “I’m coming” Muttering to Joan, before taking her leave. She walked into the corridors, he

“So what made you move across town to Riverdale?”Daniel’s voice drew her attention and she zoned it back in. Perhaps it was his question that stomped her heart—she hadn’t told him of the twins of in fact anything that deep about her.Isabella made the conscious decision to take things slow, but sitting across him on that table in fine dining, she realized she was doing just the opposite of that. Her lips parted slightly before pursing again. “I wanted a change” She lied. Not exactly. That was merely half the truth, the rest involved her father telling her to never return to Norman as she walked out of her wedding chapel that day. Occasionally, she’d get sucked up in the memory of her flower petals dancing in the air between them—the look of shock on Colton and the rest of the congregation’s faces.Luckily, she never got to see them again, including her father and Samantha, her step mother who was nothing but evil. “Hey” Daniel tapped into the table and Isabella looked to him. “Whe

“He hasn’t picked my calls since yesterday”“I’m worried” Isabella paced around the corridors with the phone in her hands as she was sent to Daniel’s voicemail for the nth time since last night’s dinner that ended in shambles. Joan pulled away from the glass. “Leonardo doesn’t really have a right to an opinion, i mean he moved halfway across the state, didn’t he ask any questions?” She said.“Besides all you owe him is that you do your work well.”Isa bit into her lips, surrendering her phone to the table. TWENTY FIVE MINUTES UNTIL MIDNIGHT.The car finally came to a halt and from a distance walked Sheriff Stevens accompanied by both Christian and Theodore. In a world that had gone digital, it was surprising that they didn’t show up with a large bag of cash to submit to the mafia Lord but rather just a plain-old cheque.“You’re nothing like i expected” Constantin turned around when he suspected their footsteps had drawn them close enough. The sheriff met his cold gaze with a defensive stance. “I’ll say the same” He muttered and then his eyes roamed both Christian and Theodore who acted like bodyguards. “I thought i told you to come alone” He looked as far as the car but with the silence that enclosed them on this deserted coast, he was moreso convinced. “Do you want your money or not?” Stevens hissed back at him, pulling out the cheque from his pocket and Constantin scoffed from his lips. “I’m not stupid. All, that on his mind was Joan’s safety and whether or not she was okay. “Do you have the complete money now?” Emily turned to the sheriff, still reeling in the disbelief of how they raised a hundred million dollars in twenty four hours. The slow jazz pierced through Emily’s ears as she wrapped her hands around Gerald’s neck. Indulged in the dance, she didn’t raise her head but that was until it was his turn to swing her. She moved her hips so elegantly like she was young again and after an hour, she admitted to be wrong because there was something about the dance that eased her tension. The music stopped and there was a round of applause, the same moment that allowed them to intimately look into each other’s eyes. “You were amazing” Gerald whispered but before Em could mutter another word, her eyes caught him.“Klaus!” She blurted out. There he was, by the bar downing a glass of champagne with a younger mistress in his hands. He was headed for the stairs and Emily fixated his eyes on him, unwilling to let him misplace in the colorful crowds. Isabella awoke to a dimly lit candle in the corner of the room. The crimson orange flames flickered in her eyes with a slight pitter-patter sound of the wax burning. It curved to the side and just that single piece was able to warm the room, ridding it of it’s unconducive iciness. She shivered off the remnant cold as she sat up. The heavy chain followed even the slightest movement of her hands, letting out a thunderous clang as she retracted them. Her eyes met Kayla who was quivering in fear just opposite her. “It wasn’t there before” Isa’s voice interrupted the eerily silent room. Her eyes looked pointedly to the candle flame but then suddenly something fell right in front of her.“Oh my God” She clutched her chest, startled to her bones and Kayla let out a shaky scream. The pair of black rubber boots that sauntered towards her drew her attention before whatever it was that was thrown to her. “Take a look” The familiar voice towered over her and Isabella didn’t even need to lift her

Leonardo snapped his eyes open with an agonizing pain spearing through his neck and along the veins of his numb limbs. He was carried by two hefty arms into a large, dark room and when he realized that his consciousness was regained after an hour long sedation, he struggled to break free from the grasps of the arms that restrained him. “Where’s Isabella!” Was the first question that he yelled out through his panting lips. He threw his head upon his shoulders as he was dragged, his feet barely an inch from the callous grounds. And then he was thrown in the deepest and darkest part of what seemed to be a dungeon. The beads of sweat that formed across his head tricked down his body and he wiped across his face, lifting his gaze to see the masked men in front of him. Leonardo was short of breath as he staggered to sit up, using his barely formidable arms as a wedge. He was able to lean against the wall as he searched for his breathes.“Where’s Isabella?” He looked around him and there d
