Chapter 5 New Job Offer

We got back to the house after we got a bottle of wine from the city mall, as I expected when I broke the news to my mum, she was so sad, she kept murmuring about life being so unfair to her and how God was partial to her. I told her not to worry about it, that I have already started hunting for a job and that in no time I will get a new job.

"You don't deserve to suffer like this, my child," My mom said, "God is so unfair to me,"

I just scoffed and walked past my mother just as Sky went to hug her, I didn't want to hug her, I didn't believe in any of those things she said, I don't believe anyone has the power to detect what happens in your life from an unknown and unseen realm. I feel like everyone is the architect of their lives. I also don't believe life is unfair, it's unbalanced, not unfair.

All you need to do is do your quota, and work extra hard if you want to have a balanced life with the elites. That is the resolution, I have always lived my life by that rule, I was determined to be among the top elites, and I have been working towards that goal for a long time.

In our earlier days, my mum and I used to argue a lot, especially when I told her my plans of not getting married but just having a child and raising the child by myself. She had scolded me and we had fought among ourselves,

Out of anger and frustration, I lashed out and reminded her about my father's treatment of her, I told her I hated men because of my father, my father treated my mother as a tablecloth and I hated to see it, my mum was always very humble to my father and it annoyed the hell out of me.

So I grew up to be a very independent lady, I didn't want any man in my life, the few kisses I had before Damien were just me teasing the flesh, and of course, just having fun with the ridiculous dares that Sky kept daring me, but emotionally, I had never had a tiny bit feeling for any man, maybe I had a little bit crush on Damien yesterday but it was nothing serious.

"Drink water, honey," I said handing my mother a glass of water, "I said you shouldn't worry and I mean it, I will get another job before you know it. Can you please trust me?"

"I trust you, Kris, I trust you, I just wished I was wiser and stronger, so I could protect you, it breaks my heart to see you suffer like this, I am your mother."

Right!

"I know, honey," I said, finally going to hug her, "Thank you Sky," I said hugging my mother close to me, "Don't worry about us, I will take care of you, myself…"

'And my baby.'

"Mother, Kristen is a hardworking hoe, before this time next week, she will have a job, I can bet cash on it." Sky said,

"You want to bet money, so you are rich now?"

"I work and get paid, unlike you who got sacked on your first day?" Sky said, then shrugged meanly at me, I looked at her like she was crazy, she truly was crazy.

"You are crazy Sky, at least it's only a job I lost, better than you who have lost all your relationships," I retorted back flipping my hair,

"Bitch!" Sky said, throwing a pillow at me, I dodged and picked up the pillow to throw back at her but mother held my hands.

"You both stop it," Mother chided, "How can you both still behave like children at this age, you are adults, working-class adults,"

"I'm sorry mother, we were trying to cheer you up."

"It worked, I trust you, okay? " She said as she stretched her hands and gently caressed my brows. "My beautiful daughter. Just make sure you give me a grandchild to dote on."

"Already working on that mother," I mumbled,

"Okay, then. I will let you girls be, seeing as you both didn't come home last night, you must have a lot of things to catch up on," Mother inferred, looking between us, we just laughed off her attempt to tease us.

"Thank you mother, " Sky said, as I stood up to get glasses for the drink that Sky and I git from the mall.

"Okay, I will be in my room if you need me." Mother said and left.

After my mother left Sky and I retired to my room and got huddled up in the makeshift nest we prepared and told her all about the events of last night. By the time I was done filling her in, We were a drunken laughing mess. We both couldn't handle the spiciness of the night.

"You are a certified bitch, Kristen, damn…"Sky drawled,

"He was so good, Sky. So tempting,"

"I can imagine," Sky mumbled and we both sighed and chuckled drunkenly, then just laid back and enjoyed the fluffy materials beneath us.

One week has passed since Damien and my job revocation, and I still haven't gotten a job, unfortunately, and I… it was getting frustrating, especially with daily bills payment, I didn't want to touch my savings, because that took me a lot to build up.

And my savings had their purposes, it was not for random bills I could take care of, but I didn't stop, I kept sending my letters of application to almost all the opportunities I came across.

Today, I woke up feeling too lazy to stand up and do anything, I just lay in bed, my mind calculating what our next course of action would be if we didn't land a job soon. A call on my phone interrupted my thoughts as I lazily rolled to pick it up, it was Sky, of course.

||"What?" I asked immediately I picked up,

||"Rude, I have good and bad news, which do you want to hear first?" Sky said,

||"Uhm, Good news first,"

||"Wise choice, we have a job vacancy in our company, it's a tech unit…"

||"I am up for it," I blurted out, a tech job was my speciality and it was perfect for me."

||"I thought as much, I already told my supervisor, and he asked me to inform you to report to the office tomorrow with your C.V," Sky explained,

||"Okay. I will prepare and bring it."

||"I will pick you up by morning and now the bad news is that my boss is going on hiatus for a while,"

||"Your boss?"

||"Yes, the CEO is going to be on hiatus for a short while, so his son will be acting on his behalf, I hear he is rich and very powerful, apparently very rude and arrogant too. They said he is so rich and has businesses that he owns. He is just doing his father a favour, "

||"Oh," I muttered not knowing what to say, since I didn't know either the boss or the son.

||"The reason I am telling you this is that throughout the stay of the young master in the company, if you get employed, you are going to be working directly with him." Sky explained,

||"Right! But it's no problem, as long as I get employed, and the pay is good, I don't mind, even if he is a douche, I will handle him." I said confidently.

||"Okay, that is good then, I will pick you up in the morning."

Sky said and hung up, I was happy that I sprung up from the bed to prepare my C.V and outfit for the next day.
