Wythe nodded, feeling strangely curious. "Uncle Fraine, where's my mom?"

Andrew placed the prepared dinner on the table. "Your mom is sick. Her fever just subsided, so she might need some more rest."

Wythe learned for the first time that his mom was actually sick.

As they spoke, the door opened, and Lydia stumbled out, still half-asleep, with disheveled hair.

"Mom, are you feeling better?"

"Lydia, are you feeling any better?"

"I'm fine, just feeling a bit hungry."

Andrew reached out to feel her forehead. "Looks like the fever's gone. As long as you're hungry, that's good. Dinner's ready; try my cooking."

Lydia felt a bit embarrassed. "Thank you for today, Andrew."

"Why be so polite with me? We've known each other for more than just a day or two."

Lydia smiled. Indeed, Andrew had always been considerate of her at school.

"Alright, let's sit down and eat!"
