Chapter 39

The pond was shallow, its waters only reaching one's calves. There was a lot of mud in it, however, which stained Shannon's coat after she fell in.

Shannon, who usually carried herself gracefully, was now in an incredibly sorry state.

Chelsey had the urge to shove a clump of mud into Shannon's mouth to shut her up.

But she refrained from doing so.

Chelsey was about to find someone to help pull Shannon up when a tall figure walked past her.

When Chelsey finally saw who it was, Lucas had already lifted Shannon out from the pond. He was now covered in mud too.

"My hand hurts so much, Luke … " Shannon moaned through her tears, curled up in Lucas' arms.

She shot Chelsey a look of utter delight when they passed by her, making Chelsey feel unbearably upset.

When Lucas walked past Chelsey, he said to her, "Stay in the hospital first. I need to talk to you about something."

Lucas then went outside the hospital with Shannon in his arms.
