Lucas suddenly felt as though he was nothing but a joke.

He made the journey to the hospital to give her the books, yet she didn't even glance at them and told him to throw them away.

Timothy looked at Lucas.

With much sincerity, he said, "Thank you, Mr. Yates, for bringing Chels to the hospital. It was careless. I will never let her stay at home alone in the future."

The corners of Lucas' mouth twitched upon hearing Timothy's apology.

Through gritted teeth, he said, "Take good care of her. It's not an easy feat for a woman to give birth."

With that, he turned and left the ward. When he walked past a trash can, he felt like dumping the books into it.

But when his hands hovered over the can, he hesitated and left the hospital with them. When he got into his car, he leaned against the seat, tossed the books onto the passenger's seat, and shut his eyes.
