Waiting in Loneliness

Although their new life seemed happy, bigger challenges soon arose. Johan got a job offer that required him to travel out of town frequently. At first, Alana thought they could handle the distance and time apart, but over time, she began to feel lonely.

One night, after Johan left for another business trip, Alana sat alone in the living room, feeling lost.

The children were asleep, and the house was quiet. Alana tried to distract herself by reading a book, but her mind kept drifting to Johan.

A few hours later, the phone rang. Johan was calling from another city.

"Hi, Alana. How are you?" asked Johan in a soft voice.

"I'm fine. But I miss you," Alana answered honestly.

"I miss you too. I wish I could be there with you and the kids," Johan said in a regretful tone.

"When are you coming home?" asked Alana in an expectant tone.

"Maybe next week. This project is more complicated than I thought," Johan replied.

"All right. We'll wait," Alana said while enduring a deep sense of loneliness.
