I didn't feel like attending classes the next day after we returned from Utah. The ability to even concentrate wasn't there, given the state of saturation my mind was in. I should have been happy after getting the marriage certificate from Sanders, but I couldn't afford a smile. The mere thought of my own mother hiring someone to kill me gnawed at my insides.

"What do I do?" I mumbled to myself, staring at my mom's number on my phone screen, trying to decide whether to call her or not. Even though she had proved that money was more important, I still hoped that she'd call.

"There you are. I am done with work. Sorry, I took too long." Nick said, opening the sliding doors to the swimming pool, where I was lying on the lounge chair. I forced a smile when he approached, trying so hard to use his exposed, chiselled chest as a distraction.

"Have you been looking for me?" I couldn't even recognise my own voice. Instead of answering, Nick furrowed his eyebrows after he stood beside me
