The fact that Doris was confined to a small, dimly lit room where she was shackled is evidence that she was only kept hostage and imprisoned on the island. This is evidenced by the fact that the sound of the water could still be heard inside of the room, despite the fact that it was sealed off.

Because she is blindfolded and her mouth is covered, Doris is unable to utilize her sense of smell or hearing to identify anything else that may be going on around her.

Doris made a number of efforts to get free, but she was unable to do so because her bonds were too tight.

She was being too curious to realize the impracticality of having a rabbit in such a wild setting as this deserted island when she was captured, so she was following after a small rabbit when she was caught. This led to her being imprisoned. She couldn't contain her excitement, so she gave chase to the rabbit. As she continued to make her way deeper into the jungle, the rabbit could no longer be found. A
