Claire, who had gone back to check on Tasha, suddenly let out a startled gasp.

“Tasha? Tasha… Oh my God!”

Her voice rang through the quiet estate, filled with shock and relief.

Daniel and Robbin barely had time to process her words before she came running out of the room, her expression frantic but hopeful. “She’s awake! Tasha’s awake!”

Robbin reacted first. “Call the doctor,” he ordered, already moving toward the room.

Daniel didn’t wait, he rushed past them, pushing open the door to Tasha’s room. His heart pounded as he stepped inside.

Tasha was lying in bed, her eyes fluttering open, blinking as if trying to adjust to the light. Her breathing was uneven, her body weak from days of being unconscious. But she was awake.

She was awake.

Daniel exhaled a shaky breath, stepping closer, almost afraid that if he blinked, she would disappear. “Tasha…”

Her eyes moved slowly, searching, until they landed on him. Confusion flickered across her face, followed by exhaustion. He

Daniel felt his stomach tighten at the way she looked at him, like he was a stranger. Tasha’s breathing grew uneven as her gaze flickered around the room, taking in the medical equipment, the soft beeping of the monitors, the IV in her arm. Her fingers curled into the bedsheets as if grounding herself. "Why are you here, Daniel?" she asked again, sharper this time, her voice laced with confusion and something else, something distant. "Where I'm I?" Claire and Robbin exchanged uneasy glances, but neither spoke. Ethan, sensing the shift in his mother’s demeanor, clung to her arm. “Mom?” he whispered. “You’re home now.” Her head snapped toward him, eyes wide, panic creeping into her expression. "Home?" she echoed. Ethan nodded eagerly, trying to reassure her. "Right, Dad?" Tasha froze. Her gaze snapped back to Daniel, and for the first time since waking up, there was something else in her eyes, uncertainty. “Dad?” she repeated slowly, as if the word itself didn’t make s

Daniel stood at the back of the room, arms crossed, his expression unreadable. He didn’t say a word. Tasha frowned, her brows knitting together as she tried to piece together the fragments of her memory. “I remember meeting Mr. Belvoir… Dad,” she corrected, looking up at him. “I was in his house. With Ethan.” She hesitated, her fingers tightening around the blanket. “Then I went back home.” Claire shifted uncomfortably, glancing at the others before asking cautiously, “You mean… in London?” Tasha nodded slowly. “Yes.” The room went still. Robbin’s gaze flickered toward Daniel, but Daniel didn’t react. His jaw was set, his eyes locked onto Tasha, but he remained silent. Mr. Belvoir, standing near the door, exhaled softly. “That was nearly two years ago.” Tasha’s eyes widened. “What?” Claire sat beside her, gently taking her hand. “Tasha… you’ve been here for a while. You left London.” Tasha shook her head, confusion flashing across her face. “No. I— I would remember

The drive to the precinct was tense, every second ticking by like a countdown to something bigger. Daniel’s mind raced, replaying every detail of the accident, the threats, the calculated attack. When Daniel arrived at the station, the officer led him through to the interrogation room. Behind the glass, a man sat hunched over, his face hidden beneath his hands. The officer motioned toward him. “This is the guy,” the officer said. Daniel nodded but said nothing, studying the man carefully. He didn’t recognize him. There was no familiar face. Just another man who had been caught up in whatever game Vanessa was playing. The officer turned to Daniel. “We’ve traced everything back to this guy. He was hired to take Ms Belvoir, but his story’s all over the place.” Daniel stepped forward as the officer unlocked the door and en

Tasha’s confusion deepened, but her instincts told her that there was more to the story. She tried to piece together the fragments of memory. “A truck? But I don’t... I don’t remember it.” Claire gave her a reassuring smile, though her own expression was tinged with concern. “Don’t worry, Tasha. It’s normal not to remember everything right away. The shock, the trauma, it can make things hard to recall. But you’ll get there. You just need time.” Tasha’s heart ached with the gaps in her memory. She couldn’t shake the feeling that something or someone was missing from the story. “Ethan... he was in the car with me, wasn’t he?” she asked, her voice soft, almost fearful of what she might hear next. Claire nodded, her expression softening. “Yes, sweetheart, Ethan was with you and he’s safe now. You don’t have to worry about him.” But as Claire spoke, Tasha couldn’t ignore the nagging sense that something wasn’t adding up. Why couldn’t she remember the accident more clearly? What else

Outside the Room… Robbin stepped into the hallway, exhaling sharply as he ran a hand through his hair. His mind was still spinning from everything that had happened, Tasha waking up, her memory loss, the way she had looked at Daniel like he was a stranger. He should have felt relief that she was alive, but all he could focus on was the uncertainty of what came next. The sound of measured footsteps drew his attention, and when he turned, Mr. Belvoir was standing a few feet away, his expression unreadable. The older man regarded him in silence for a moment before finally speaking. “I see how much you care for my daughter.” Robbin straightened, swallowing the emotions that had been simmering inside him. “I do,” he said simply. “Everyone knows that.” Mr. Belvoir gave a slow nod. “And you’ve been there for her, protected her, even when I couldn’t.” Robbi

Tasha’s words hung heavily in the air, slicing through the tense silence. "I see no one is going to tell me," Tasha continued, her voice firm despite the exhaustion in her frame. She took a step back, the IV stand rattling slightly as she steadied herself. Her eyes were sharp, filled with a mixture of confusion and coldness that hurt Daniel to the core. Daniel’s chest tightened as he opened his mouth to speak, but Tasha held up a hand to stop him. “I don’t want you coming here like you have the rights,” she said, her tone cold and final. It wasn’t the tone of the woman he once knew weeks ago. This was a stranger, a woman who, for the moment, couldn’t remember the sincerity they had shared for the past weeks. Daniel wanted to argue, wanted to explain everything, but when she cut him off again, the words stuck in his throat. “I don’t know how strong the bond is with you and Ethan,” she went on, her voice wavering ever so slightly, “but that’s something we’ll figure out. The hours dragged by, each minute stretching into what felt like eternity. Daniel lay there on the floor, his mind a jumbled mess of regret, anger, and sorrow. The apartment felt colder now, the silence almost suffocating, pressing down on him from all sides. He didn’t want to move, didn’t want to face the reality of it all. The world outside could go on, but he was stuck, paralyzed by his own thoughts, unable to find a way out. The sound of the doorbell rang through the stillness, but Daniel didn’t even flinch. His eyes were heavy, his body unmoving, as if he had become a part of the room itself. The ringing continued, insistent, but he ignored it. Let them come. He wasn’t in the mood for company. He didn’t want to see anyone, especially not now. But the door clicked open, and soon enough, the sound of footsteps approached. Stanley’s voice broke through the fog in Daniel’s mind. “What the hell? Daniel?” The words were sharp, filled with concern, but Daniel didn’t react. He did

Daniel sat across from Stanley in his dimly lit apartment. The room was still in shambles, glass shards on the floor, the remnants of his drunken rage evident in the broken furniture and toppled whiskey bottle. His head throbbed, and his heart ached even more. Stanley handed him another bottle of water. “You need to get a grip, Daniel.” Daniel scoffed, taking a sip. “A grip? hmm... Tasha doesn’t even want me around. My own son looks at me like he’s afraid I’ll disappear again. And on top of that, Vanessa is still out there. What exactly am I supposed to get a grip on?” Stanley leaned back in the chair, sighing. “You want Tasha back, right?” Daniel shot him a glare. “What kind of question is that?” “Then act like it,” Stanley snapped. “Drinking yourself into a stupor won’t fix anything. If you’re going to win her back, you need a plan. Right now, all she know

He hesitated, clearly torn between his duty and her command. “Ma’am, please—” “I’ll be fine,” she interrupted gently but firmly. “No one follows me.” The guard clenched his jaw, clearly uncomfortable with the idea, but reluctantly nodded. “Be careful,” he muttered, watching as she slipped through the gate and disappeared into the early morning haze. The air outside was crisp, almost biting, but Tasha barely felt it. She pulled the hoodie over her head, tucking her hair inside as she walked briskly down the street. Every step echoed in her ears, mingling with the rapid beat of her heart. Her phone vibrated in her pocket, and she quickly pulled it out. A message flashed across the screen. I knew you’d come around. Meet me behind the café, down to the stream. Tasha scoffed softly, shaking her head. She glanced at the time 5:20 AM. Time was slipping fast. Without thinking too much, she opened her messages and typed quickly to Daniel. Meet me behind the café, down to the str

Tasha wiped at her damp cheeks, her body trembling from the emotional weight pressing down on her. The memories were still disjointed, flickering in and out like a broken film reel, but they were there. She could feel them clawing their way to the surface, demanding to be acknowledged. She sniffled and reached for her phone, her fingers shaking slightly as she unlocked the screen. Her first instinct was to call Daniel, to hear his voice, to confirm what she had just remembered. But as her thumb hovered over his contact, she hesitated. A call felt too much right now. Too raw. Too personal. Instead, she swiped over to her messages, her mind racing with the right words to say. Her pulse thrummed loudly in her ears as she typed out the message: Let’s meet. I want to know, and give you what you truly want. Maybe then, I can even get my full memories back. Her thumb hovered over the send button. She bit her lip, her heart hammering in her chest. Was this the right thing to do?

Robbin leaned in gently, his lips brushing Tasha’s forehead with a tenderness that made her chest tighten. It was a simple gesture, but it carried unspoken words, emotions layered beneath years of complicated history. “Goodnight, Tasha,” he whispered softly against her skin, lingering for just a heartbeat before stepping back and walking toward the guest room. Tasha stood there for a moment, rooted in place. She closed her eyes, feeling the warmth of his touch lingering even after he’d left. But beneath that warmth, there was a faint unease, a hollow echo in her chest that she couldn’t explain. Later that night, the apartment was cloaked in silence. The soft hum of the refrigerator was the only sound, punctuated occasionally by the faint creaks of the old floorboards settling. Tasha drifted into a restless sleep, the exhaustion finally pulling her under. But sleep did not bring peace. Tasha found herself standing in the middle of an unfamiliar room dimly lit, shadows clinging to

Tasha leaned against the wall in the quiet hallway, her arms loosely crossed over her chest. The soft glow from Ethan’s nightlight spilled faintly into the corridor, casting long shadows that seemed to echo the lingering questions in her heart. Robbin stood a few feet away, his hands in his pockets, watching her with that steady, unreadable gaze. "Umm, Robbin…" she began hesitantly, her voice low but carrying the weight of her thoughts. "The last time… I didn’t mean to pry, but in London, you said you were in Paris for… umm, family." She paused, frowning slightly as she searched the corners of her hazy memory. "But you’ve never mentioned anything about family before. Besides Aunt Linda." Robbin’s casual demeanor shifted subtly. His smile faded, replaced by something guarded. He rubbed the back of his neck, avoiding her eyes for a moment. "It wasn’t family," he finally admitted, his voice quieter than before. Tasha’s brows knit together. "Then who?" Robbin exhaled sharply,

Robbin had just stepped out of Ethan’s room, rubbing the back of his neck, exhaustion etched into his features. He’d been pacing around, worried when Tasha had been gone longer than expected. The hospital corridor was eerily quiet, the hum of fluorescent lights buzzing faintly above. As he turned the corner, he froze. There was Tasha standing with Daniel, both of them visibly shaken, Daniel’s hand still resting protectively on Tasha’s arm. Her face was pale, her breathing uneven, and Daniel’s jaw was clenched tight, his body tense as if ready for a fight. Confusion flashed across Robbin’s face, his brows knitting together as he rushed toward them. His eyes darted from Tasha’s trembling form to Daniel’s hardened expression. “Tasha, are you okay?” His voice was laced with concern, his gaze searching hers for answers. Before Tasha could even find her voice, Daniel spoke, his tone sharp and edged with frustration. “It’s Vanessa. She showed up.” Robbin’s eyes darkened instantly,

Daniel remained rooted to the spot, his heart pounding like a drum. Tasha’s words lingered in the air, soft but heavy, like a thread pulling at memories he couldn’t suppress. “Thank you, Daniel.” It wasn’t much, but it was enough to ignite a flicker of hope in the wreckage of his heart. Finally, he stood, brushing his palms over his jeans as if trying to steady himself. He quietly made his way back into Ethan’s room, the soft beep of the monitors the only sound filling the space. Robbin was seated by Ethan’s bedside, flipping through a magazine, though his eyes weren’t really focused on the pages. Daniel’s gaze softened when it landed on Ethan, who was still fast asleep, his small chest rising and falling steadily. Daniel crouched beside the bed, his fingers gently brushing through his son’s hair. Leaning in, he whispered softly, “Hey, buddy. I’ll be back soon, okay? Daddy’s just stepping out for a little bit. You’re doing great, champ.” Ethan stirred slightly, his sleepy eyes

Daniel’s head was resting heavily on the steering wheel, his fingers gripping it tightly as if it was the only thing anchoring him. His heart pounded, not from the drive, but from the ache of being close to Tasha without truly having her. The weight of everything unsaid sat like a stone on his chest. He closed his eyes for a brief moment, trying to breathe through the tightness when suddenly 'click' the door opened again. His head shot up in surprise. Tasha stood there, slightly breathless, her fingers clutching the strap of Ethan’s bag. Her face was tense, her brows furrowed like she was fighting an invisible battle within herself. “Daniel…” Her voice was soft but shaky, like it was stitched together with fragile threads. “That scar.” She hesitated, licking her lips nervously. “I remember… something. But I’m not sure.” Daniel’s heart skipped. His pulse quickened. “What do you remember?” he asked, his voice low, filled with both hope and fear. Tasha slid into the passeng

Tasha gently brushed her fingers through Ethan’s hair, her heart finally beginning to steady as he drifted off to sleep. His breathing was soft, peaceful now, but the memory of his frail body and burning fever still haunted her. She leaned down, placing a tender kiss on his forehead before standing up and quietly stepping out of the room. Robbin was waiting just outside, his back against the wall, arms crossed. His face softened as she approached, exhaustion etched in every line. “I need to get home and pack some things for Ethan,” Tasha whispered, glancing back through the small window to ensure Ethan was still resting peacefully. “His pajamas, some books… maybe his favorite blanket.” Robbin nodded, pushing off the wall. “I’ll come with you.” He patted his pockets, then frowned slightly. “I… didn’t bring my car. Everything happened so fast, I just rushed over here.”

“How long has he been inside?” Daniel asked urgently, his breath coming fast. “Since last night,” Tasha whispered, her voice trembling. “He hasn’t come out… he said goodnight to me, since then he’s not responding.” Daniel didn’t waste another second. He stepped forward, pounding his fists against the door. “Ethan! Buddy, it’s Dad. Please open the door!” Silence. His heart sank. Without hesitation, Daniel stepped back, his jaw clenched. “I’m breaking the door down.” Tasha nodded, tears streaming down her face. “Ethan,” Daniel shouted again, his voice cracking with emotion, “move away from the door if you can, buddy. Please.” No response. Daniel braced himself and threw his shoulder against the door, again and again, until finally, with a loud crack, the lock gave
