ELOISE
Mr. Suit looked even more stunning than last night, like a knight in shining armor with his angelic face and princely stance. My eyes hurt seeing him shining so brightly, like staring at the sun. His ocean-blue eyes were light and deep, drawing me in and making me want to be lost in them. And there was something about him, an irresistible charm that could make any woman feel butterflies in her stomach and a tingle between her legs. He was dressed in a perfectly tailored gray suit, looking sharp and clean. He had an air of formality that would make anyone think twice before accidentally bumping into him.
But then, he raised an eyebrow.
What the heck was he doing here in the office? And it looked like he came to see Chase. Did they know each other? How was that even possible? I’d been working at this company for a year, and I’d never seen Mr. Suit around before.
Hold on. What if he came here on purpose to get back at me for what happened last night? Nah, that couldn’t be true. I never told him where I worked unless I blurted it out when I was drunk or something.
Either way, I needed to figure out how to get out of this situation. Having these two guys in the same room was the last thing I wanted.
How on earth was I going to escape this mess?
Chase cleared his throat, breaking the silence. “Adam,” he said, talking to him. “I’ve been waiting for you. Let me introduce you...”
Oh no. Chase better not spill the beans and tell everyone that he’s my ex.
“I already know him, thanks,” I interrupted. “We’ve met before.”
Chase looked puzzled. “You did?”
“A pretty interesting encounter, but yeah.” Adam smirked playfully like he was pleased about something.
“See? But to make it official, I’m Eloise Walker, one of the junior art directors here.” I reached out my hand to shake his.
He shook my hand, and it immediately burned my skin. Oh, God.
“Adam Sebastian.”
Adam... Sebastian? Was he saying he was Adam Sebastian, CEO of Sebastian Pictures? This firm’s new owner and one of those famous and billionaire Sebastian brothers who owned the Sebastian Entertainment Group? This had to be a dream!
I didn’t mean to seem all high and mighty, but I had to avoid this awkward moment of getting any worse. Last night was already one of the most embarrassing moments of my life, right up there with the tantrum I threw in the middle of the parking lot.
I glanced at Chase, who appeared surprised. “Adam is our boss from Sebastian Pictures HQ. How do you two know each other?” he asked, curiosity marked in his voice.
Stupid Eloise Walker couldn’t keep her mouth shut. Of course, he would ask. Talk about the worst day ever.
Wait, what about Zoey? If Chase was here, and so was she, right?
“I don’t think I can explain how we met,” I stammered, hoping to deflect the question.
Adam stared at me, his smile barely contained. I felt like I was triple dead. I discreetly clenched my fist in embarrassment.
“I see,” Chase replied, his tone icy. “Oh, Zoey is on her way. She just needs to drop off Kyle at the nursery,” he informed Adam.
Kyle? Nursery? They have a child? Kenneth didn't mention that.
My heart clenched. I should've been more guarded and expected this.
Suddenly, my knees felt weak, my vision blurred, and I struggled to focus. All I could feel was the lingering hangover and a pain in my chest.
After all this time, I still hadn’t moved on. Now that they had a kid, I felt like I was finally breaking down. Again.
“Are you okay?” Adam asked suddenly, gently touching my elbow. “You’re sweating.”
I nodded, unaware that I was almost collapsing.
“I’m fine. I’m okay.”
“No, you don’t look okay,” he insisted.
“I’m fine. It’s nice to meet you here, Mr. Sebastian. Let me know if you need anything. I’ll just be on my desk,” I told them, glancing at Chase.
His breath grew heavy as his eyes fixed on Adam’s hand on my elbow.
I retracted quickly. The room was abruptly charged with an intense atmosphere.
“We’re not finished, Eloise,” Chase said. “Adam, could you please excuse us? I still need to have a conversation with her.”
Fuck him! He could have chosen a more considerate way to say that, especially in front of our boss, although it was obvious they were close.
“Sure, but I still need to have a conversation with you about something later,” Adam stated, briefly pointing a finger at Chase.
“I understand. I’m sorry,” Chase said.
With that, Adam exited the office, closing the door behind him.
“You shouldn’t have asked him to leave. Now he’ll definitely think something is going on between us.”
“There’s something else I need to tell you. You have no idea how tormented I felt when I learned about your accident, the one that nearly took your life. I’ve never stopped blaming myself since then,” he confessed, and strangely, I sensed no lies in his tone.
But I had to mask my building weakness with sarcasm. “And yet, you have a child with Zoey. How can you say that when you’re the one who left me?”
“No, you left me first, and you know that!” Chase accused me, but the guilt was still written on his face.
What did he want from me?
“You still love me, Eloise. I know you do,” he mumbled.
Do I still love him? Perhaps, but my hatred for him was so overwhelming that it overshadowed any remnants of love. He was my first love, and he knew it. Zoey knew it, too, yet they both betrayed me.
“I hate you so much that I never want to see your face again. I’ve found peace and happiness working in this company. Of all the places, why did you have to end up here?”
“I didn’t know you were here, but seeing you again made me realize that there’s still unfinished business between us,” he said.
“There’s no unfinished business between us, Chase. And let’s be clear. It was over the moment you left me in tears on that street, looking at me like I was nothing but trash while Zoey clung to you. I begged you, Chase. More than once.”
Chase let out a heavy sigh. “You don’t know the whole story. I’ve been wanting to tell you all this time. Leaving you was a terrible mistake, but Zoey got pregnant.”
“See? So it wasn’t just about the money. You really did betray me—”
“I’m not finished,” he interrupted. “It wasn’t just about the money. Zoey manipulated me. I was drunk, and she took advantage. It was dark, and she smelled like you. When I woke up in the morning, I saw her face. I can’t remember much.”
My heart sank. So that’s why Zoey threw my empty perfume bottle at me and thanked me. Everything made sense now.
“Why are you telling me this?” I whispered, my voice trembling. “It’s too late for that.”
“I’ve been living in misery because I was a coward. I stayed with her for Kyle. But I want you. I still want you,” he said, looking at me sincerely.
The same eyes that once gazed at me with passion. But I needed to escape from this. It was the best course of action.
“You can’t do this, Chase.”
“Why not?”
“Because things will only get more complicated.” I raised my chin and straightened my shoulders. “Expect my resignation on your desk tomorrow.”
“Stop. I won’t accept it,” Chase insisted.
I shrugged, maintaining my resolve. “My work here is done.”
I turned around, opened the door, and swiftly exited his office.
“Hey,” a deep, oh-so-sexy voice suddenly echoed behind me.
ELOISE Adam said I should be at the restaurant by eight, but where was he? I scanned the place, growing more impatient as the minutes ticked by. It was already eight-fifteen, and there was no sign of him. And speaking of my new bosses, Zoey was the other managing director for marketing but didn’t come to the office. I had a feeling Chase told her about me being in the company. I knew our paths would cross again, but did it have to be like this? “Good evening, Ms. Walker,” another voice suddenly said, interrupting my thoughts. It was the maître d. “Mr. Sebastian is waiting for you, miss. Let me take you to him,” he said, showing me his usual smile like last night. “Where is he?” “If you would kindly follow me, miss.” I nodded and followed him as he led me upstairs to the restaurant’s second floor. And there was Adam, standing right by a table in the center of the room. The whole place was adorned with fancy linens, curtains, and flowers in every corner. The tables were set with
ELOISE At exactly nine o’clock, Chase and Zoey arrived. Chase had changed into a tailored gray pinstriped suit, looking as painfully handsome as ever. Zoey clung to his arm, radiating a newfound beauty. Her silky blonde hair was shorter, and I admit it made her even more classy. She wore an exquisite Louboutin baby pink floral dress and a pair of designer stilettos that emphasized her ass even more. Her eyes widened upon seeing me, and a playful smile danced on her lips. “Oh my God.” Her gaze scanned me from head to toe. “So it’s true. Chase did find you.” Found me? I scoffed. As if he even tried. I mustered a sarcastic smile. “It’s been a while, hasn’t it?” She chuckled mockingly. “How could I forget?” “Zoey,” Chase cautioned. “Alright, guys, have a seat.” Adam motioned for them to join us. Chase sat across from us, looking uncomfortable and fidgeting. He kept staring at me, but I avoided his gaze. “I didn’t know you knew Eloise, Adam. How did that happen? Care to tell us?”
ELOISE “And let me assure you, I always get what I want,” Adam said, evading a direct answer when I had every reason to question him. “You’re being too egotistical, don’t you think?” “Come. We’ll continue this discussion tomorrow. I’ll drive you home.” Adam dropped me off in front of my apartment building, his familiarity with my address not escaping my notice. The question still lingered when he left: Why couldn’t I resist him? I wasted no time as soon as I reached my door. I pulled out my phone and Googled his name. With Jenna out for the night, I had the place all to myself. Perfect for satisfying my curiosity about him. My screen was immediately filled with pictures and articles. He was often spotted in the company of celebrities and influential individuals like politicians and businesspeople. However, there was a common thread among all the women he was seen with—they were all redheads. Like me. It was strange, considering my wild, untamed red hair, which never seemed t
ELOISE Despite my doubts, I had no choice but to play along. Once inside the elevator, I removed the coat from my head and confronted them. “What the hell do you think you’re doing?” “We’re saving you, obviously,” Chase snapped. “And those people won’t stop until they get their answers,” Zoey said, folding her arms. “Why are you doing this?” I asked skeptically. “Last time I checked, we weren’t exactly friends.” She smirked. “Listen up, sweetheart. This is the mess you signed up for. Be grateful we showed up on time. But don’t get it wrong, though. We didn’t do this for you,” she said. Of course not. She did it for Adam because she was still fucking him. I wasn’t blind. “I didn’t ask for your help anyway.” “You’re still so naïve,” she remarked. “You know nothing about Adam. Do you think he really likes you? No. You’re just another one of his—” “Stop it, Zoey. Goddammit!” Chase yelled, his voice echoing in the elevator. “Please.” “Don’t yell at me. How is this my fault?” She
ELOISE We walked past the busy employees in the hallway, trying not to draw too much attention because of Adam’s commanding presence. It felt utterly ridiculous. Then we reached the elevator and stepped inside with three other people looking our way. We descended to the parking level, and I sandwiched myself in the back row. And there it was, his new car, a shiny black Rolls Royce, parked next to my Aston Martin, turning the parking area into a display of luxurious sports cars. “Is that new?” I asked, raising an eyebrow. “I couldn’t risk someone throwing up on my window again,” he joked, opening the passenger door. “Get in.” I hesitated for a moment. “Where are we going? It’s my lunch break.” He flashed a mischievous smile. “Then you’ll eat your lunch. Get in,” he repeated, gesturing for me to enter the car. Adam took his place behind the wheel and began navigating his way out of the building. A fact crossed my mind when we hit the road. “Ms. Craig mentioned earlier you’re pl
ELOISE Firstly, I wouldn’t say I liked drawing attention, so I tried to live with a low profile for twenty-nine years. It hadn’t been easy finding a suitable boyfriend either, as I preferred to keep my personal life private and not have it excessively scrutinized. I still had dreams of having a family and a life partner. Someone who would appreciate the simple things in life and didn’t have pretentious needs. He should have had a decent career that matched our easy lifestyle, but definitely not some billionaire or influential big shot like Logan Cunningham, my dad. I wanted someone who wouldn’t pry into my past. Only one person had truly seen the real me, and that was Chase. I was certain he’d get it and understand I wanted to break free from my father’s shadow and embrace my own background. I trusted him wholeheartedly. But nope, he still chose Zoey. The guys I’ve met were blinded by my grand apartment, the flashy car, and my career, and they assumed I was swimming in money. Li
ADAM Loosening my tie, I lay on the couch in my penthouse, staring at the ceiling in disbelief. I had thought I had the perfect plan to get her back to me. I never planned on getting involved with someone else. And there Zoey was, in my living room, kneeling on my carpet, quiet and waiting for me to give her direction. Despite this, my mind couldn’t help but drift back to my conversation with Eloise this afternoon. “I asked you to come here to talk because I hate listening to the walls.” She lowered her eyes as she always did. “I know it’s not my right to ask, but Eloise… I never thought that you—” I raised an eyebrow at her. “I never agreed to be exclusive.” Apparently, I still lived up to that agreement, just having women I could occasionally fuck. What was important to me was that we remained careful. “Yes, you’re right.” “Go on. Speak your mind.” My voice was low and flat, resonating throughout the living room. It seemed I was right. Whenever Eloise was involved, it made Z
ELOISE I sat at the head of the long conference table, surrounded by my talented team of creatives. Ms. Craig suggested we develop an exhibition event for the upcoming company’s 30th anniversary in a few weeks, following the announcement of the “Switcher,” a film based on the popular fictional comic book of the same name. We aimed to create an attention-grabbing teaser at the stage to introduce the world to the superhero Switcher in live action. “Alright, team,” I began, clearing my throat, “Before we proceed with the whole exhibit idea, Ms. Craig wants us to focus on the ‘first look’ of the Switcher teaser. Any initial thoughts?” Heidi, one of our motion designers, promptly raised her input. “I believe we should select the same old font that embodies Switcher’s power to make it more recognizable, and with a combination of blue and gold, representing his colors, but with a darker and rougher edge. It should symbolize Switcher’s superhero abilities, like teleportation, element magic,
ADAMTwo Months LaterI stared at the array of takeout containers at the dining table.Chinese. Pizza. Sushi. And what looked like... pancakes?I glanced at my wife, rummaging through another bag of food with a look of utter dissatisfaction on her face. She sighed heavily, dropping back into her seat with a huff.“This isn’t what I wanted,” she muttered, poking at a container of stir-fried noodles with her chopsticks. “Why do they always mess up the order? I specifically said no onions.”I bit back a smile, sipping water to hide my amusement. She’d been in a mood all evening—no, all week. She snapped at the delivery guy, rearranged the table three times, and now complained about the food. It wasn’t like her to be so... irritable.“Do you want me to order something else?” I offered, keeping my tone calm. She groaned. “No, it’s fine. It’s not your fault. I’m just... hungry.”“Alright,” I said, taking a bite of sushi as I watched her pick up a slice of pizza. She inspected it and then pu
ELOISEThe news was everywhere.“BREAKING: Adam Sebastian Takes Charge as CBS Undergoes Major Changes.”The TV screen in the corner of Adam’s—I meant our—living room displayed his gorgeous face as the anchor discussed his triumphant return to CBS. I sat curled up on the plush leather couch, my bare feet tucked beneath me.The move to Adam’s penthouse had consumed our week, but things felt more real for the first time since our whirlwind honeymoon—more tangible than they had a couple of weeks ago.“Following the high-profile arrest of former CEO Christopher Jackson on charges of fraud and embezzlement, CBS has been acquired by Sebastian Pictures,” the reporter announced.I glanced toward Adam, who sat in the adjacent armchair. His shirt sleeves were rolled up, and he held a glass of scotch. His hair was slightly tousled, as though he’d run his fingers through it one too many times. His posture was relaxed, but his eyes—those piercing ocean blues—held a flicker of satisfaction that only
ADAM The music shifted again, this time to something bolder—a sign that the night’s main event was about to begin. The guests settled at their tables, and so did Eloise and I. Servers glided through the crowd, topping off glasses with champagne, some served canapés. Christopher then stepped onto the stage like a man who believed the world bowed at his feet—because, for now, it did. I smirked. “Ladies and gentlemen,” he began, his tone booming through the room. “Thank you all for joining us tonight to celebrate our annual holiday gala and another year of extraordinary success at CBS.” Polite applause followed. His smile widened. “This year has been one of tremendous growth, and we owe that to our investors, our partners, and of course, all of you.” He gestured broadly to the crowd. “But tonight, we celebrate more than profits. We celebrate vision—the vision that built this company into what it is today.” The applause grew louder, but Christopher held up a hand, silencing them. “An
ELOISEThe Astoria Royale buzzed with the presence of celebrities, influential politicians, renowned news anchors, and prominent CBS journalists, all gathered for tonight's grand event.Towering glass chandeliers bathed the grand ballroom in a soft, golden glow, and the scent of vanilla and champagne lingered in the air with some faint traces of expensive perfumes and cigars. It was intoxicating. Dizzying. I still wasn’t used to this, not even after all the lavish parties back in Scotland.I stepped onto the red velvet carpet leading into the ballroom, the click of my emerald stilettos barely audible beneath the hum of conversation, the smooth notes of classical jazz, and bursts of laughter. The crowd stirred when Adam and I entered. Cameras flashed from behind us, and photographers called out for us to turn and pose. The flashes were blinding, but Adam’s warm, steady hand at the small of my back grounded me. I glanced up at him.God, my husband was breathtaking tonight.Adam wore a s
ELOISEThe night was unusually calm for New York—no sirens, no distant honking horns. It was just the quiet hum of the city beneath us and the distant shimmer of lights stretching to the horizon.I leaned on the balcony railing of my house, my fingers wrapped around the warm ceramic of my coffee mug, while Adam stood beside me, resting his weight against the edge. His face was hard to read tonight—calm but calculating. The kind of expression he wore when his mind was turning over something too heavy to leave unspoken. I’d grown used to the layers in his looks, but tonight, there was something sharper.“Are you going to tell me what’s on your mind, or do I have to pry it out of you?” I teased, though my voice came out softer than I intended.Adam’s lips quirked into the faintest smile, but it didn’t reach his eyes. “You’re getting good at that—reading me.”“It’s not hard. You practically radiate tension.” I leaned closer, resting my head against his shoulder for a moment. “Talk to me.”
ELOISEWhen Adam and I first entered my place to meet Jenna and grab a few things, my best friend was already standing by the door, hands on her chest. She looked at us with disappointment written all over her face, but I knew it had more to do with the fact that I hadn’t told her I was getting married.“You traitor,” she mumbled.I sighed, not wanting to disappoint her further. I immediately hugged her.“I’m sorry. I have no excuse. But can we please sit inside so I can explain?”“You told me I’d be your maid of honor!”She glanced at Adam and scowled.“Another traitor.”“Hi! Jenna, right?” Adam flashed his sweetest smile.Jenna’s mouth dropped open, but she quickly looked away.“Just come in.” She stepped aside. We entered the living room while Adam looked around, taking in the space.“You do have a nice place here. Maybe we should stay?” he teased.Jenna gasped and rushed in front of us.“Are you guys—kicking me out?”I laughed. “Don’t listen to him. He’s just kidding!”We sat down
ELOISEThat evening, while I was showering, Adam joined me. He wrapped his arms around me from behind while his lips placed soft kisses on my shoulder. I moved my hair to the side and looked back at him. Even after everything, it still felt surreal. Adam was my husband now.Just a few weeks ago, I met this man because of a simple mistake on a blind date, and he became someone who supported me. But there was still so much I had to learn about him, many things we needed to resolve and discuss.Under the shower, we stayed silent, savoring each other’s presence. Words became unnecessary with each kiss on my shoulder, neck, and back. I surrendered to the surge of emotions, my body burning with every touch of his fingers on my skin.Adam’s lips traveled down my back to the space between my buttocks. I moaned, arching my back as his tongue slid through. I gripped the wall; the only sounds were the splashing water, my rapid heartbeat, and my heavy breathing. His fingers traced my slit, and my
ELOISEWhen the doctor left, Adam and I watched Davina sit beside Malcolm’s bed, her hand never leaving his face. The doctor told us he didn’t know when my brother was going to wake up, but he should still be able to from his temporary coma.Davina was the first to speak. “How… how could Callum do this to me? After everything…”Dad was standing by the window with his hands folded across his chest when he finally broke his silence. “Callum did it because I let him. Because my ambition and greed blinded me.” There was a long pause before he turned to face us. “I did this. I did this to our family... to Malcolm. I was too focused on making sure the Cunningham name stayed strong. I was one-sided.”Davina’s eyes flicked, and her lips pressed tightly together. “You can’t blame yourself for this. I asked you to—”“I can blame myself,” Dad cut her off. “I’ve seen the signs. To think that I almost gave away my only daughter.” He waved his hand towards me.My heart skipped a beat. I wasn’t sure
ADAM Eloise and I continued to move through the crowd, accepting congratulations and well wishes from the guests. I kept glancing around the room, scanning the crowd for any sign of Jonathan, but he had taken the initiative and was now talking to Callum. He had probably slipped away during the ceremony to begin his part of the operation. Now, all I could do was wait for him to make contact. Eloise chatted with her relatives near the buffet table when my phone buzzed in my pocket. I stepped away from the crowd, keeping my movements casual. I checked the message. It was from Jonathan: We spotted the ambulance, but one of my men outside hit a small complication. I glanced around again, making sure Callum wasn’t watching, and I remained calm. I moved toward a secluded reception corner, pressing the phone to my ear as I dialed Jonathan’s number. Jonathan gestured to Callum to wait a moment as he answered my call. “Jonathan, what’s going on?” I asked, my voice low but urgent. “I’m sor
