Chapter four

Emily's POV

I turn to face my brother who is standing by the entrance with a jug in his hand which he sets down on the counter.

"Thief" I say and turn around, pointing at the thief standing behind me. I feel embarrassment wash over me as soon as I realize who the thief is.

Tyler…

Kyle stares back and forth between Tyler and I, looking confused. Tyler also has the same expression on his face as they both stare at me like I'm someone that had just been hit by a shipwreck.

"I...uhm…I" I swallow, unable to form any audible sentence with the two piercing eyes fixed on me.

"What are you doing with my baseball bat?" The deep masculine voice of Tyler asks behind me and I turn to meet his cold piercing gaze fixed on me.

"I…uhm…I wanted to…" I'm cut off before I can even complete whatever nonsense was about to come out of my mouth.

"Tell your sister to stay away from my things" He takes his eyes off me for a few seconds to look at Kyle and then back at me before adding, "For her own good" Without another word coming from him,he walks past me with a plastic bottle in his hand as he walks out of the kitchen, leaving me with my God awful brother who had chosen to remain quiet while his friend was being mean to me.

Like seriously,who does that?

I stare hard at Kyle who shrugs and says, "Tyler doesn't like people touching his things and he's still trying to adjust with having to share a room with you,so please, don't make this difficult for him" he gives me an assuring smile and then his eyes shifts down to the baseball bat which I'm still holding, "Do you both some good and stay away from his things. I mean it Emily" He walks out, leaving me alone in the kitchen, without another word being said.

"This is ridiculous, I can't believe this" I splutter in disbelief and glare at him while he walks away.

"So much for an elder brother" I scoff as I also walk out of the kitchen, heading upstairs reluctantly, unable to get Tyler's reaction a few minutes ago when he saw me holding his bat,from my head.

As soon as I climb up the stairs, I head straight to my supposed new room only for me to find the room empty with no sign of Tyler in it.

Placing the baseball bat back to where I had gotten it from, I sit down on my bed with my head in between my hands as I look up, facing the ceiling. Then my eyes fly to the wall clock hanging on the wall across the room, it's 11pm already so I don't expect him to have gone out by this time of the night and I'm certain I didn't hear the door open downstairs when he had left the kitchen earlier. 

Why do I even care what he does? I don't know him and I have no intentions of ever getting to know such a rude boy who doesn't even….

Loud voices coming from the other side of the door cuts through my thoughts. I turn my head, facing the direction where the noise is coming from, "She's my sister and you have to treat her nicely!" I recognize the voice to be Kyle's and I rise to my feet, taking slow steps towards the door.

I push the door slightly open and walk out, taking slow steps towards the living room where the noise is coming from. I contemplate whether or not to go in there and know what they are both yelling about but then I decide against it and pry behind the wall just by the stairs,careful enough not to be seen by either of them.

"And so fucking what? Tell her to stay away from my things!" I hear another voice which I recognize to be Tyler's.

"She didn't go through your things dude,all she did was merely take your baseball bat,she probably thought a thief had broken in!" The other voice which I am certain belongs to Kyle,yells back and my heart melts. I feel proud knowing that my brother isn't a jerk after all. 

He's standing up for me and that's cute at least.

"Earlier today when I got to the room she was also going through my things!" Tyler yells and my mind shifts to a few hours ago when Tyler had walked in on me while I was going through the photo frame on his desk.

"That's just purely coincidental and it's bound to happen cause she had only just arrived there and was probably just checking things out. Don't make things difficult for her, she's also taken aback by all this and trying to adjust to having to share the room with you. She isn't complaining so I don't see why you are" Kyle yells even louder.

"Well you never told me your sister was a nosy little bitch who doesn't mind her…" Before he can finish whatever he was about to say, Kyle's fist connects with his mouth in one sharp blow and fear grips me immediately. 

For a minute I expect Tyler to fight back but he doesn't and much to my surprise he just stands there, rubbing the spot where Kyle had just hit him.

I for one knew that my brother was a good puncher and a great fighter but I never knew he was this good.

Back in highschool whenever anyone picked on me,my brother would always fight them off if they were a boy or do something to get them punished if they were a girl. He was always so protective of me and I had begun to think he had changed given his reaction since this afternoon when Tyler came in but now I'm certain that I thought wrong and I couldn't be any less proud of my brother for standing up for me in such a manner.

Though I feel bad for Tyler for some reason even though he deserves what he had just gotten.

"Don't you dare say anything bad about my sister again or you can as well fuck off" Kyle warns him and without another word being uttered,Tyler walks away from him, heading towards the stairs which sets me in panic as I run back into the room fast enough not to be seen.

On getting to the room, I climb my bed in a hurry and lie down with my head buried inside the pillow, pretending to be asleep.

I hear the sound of the door open and nervousness creeps inside me as I hear footsteps coming into the room and then the sound dies down. I raise my head a few seconds later only for my head to bump into something.
