Roohi's POV

Our friendship was the most important thing in my life, and confessing my feelings could destroy it. Vihan was the center of my world, and I couldn’t imagine a life without him in it.

So I stayed silent, caught between my desire for more and my fear of losing everything.

******

The morning light filtered through the curtains, casting a warm glow across my room. I woke up with a quiet resolve, determined to be strong and to stop letting Vihan’s love life dictate my own. It was time to stop pretending I wasn’t a mess inside. I was going to move on, or at least try. I couldn’t keep doing this to myself—waiting for something that would never come.

But as I walked into the hospital, my heart betrayed me.

There he was.

Vihan.

Standing by the coffee machine like it was an ordinary day, looking like a damn dream. His dark hair was tousled in that effortlessly perfect way, and his shirt—just slightly wrinkled—somehow made him look even more handsome. And that smile. That grin was

Roohi's POV By the time my shift ended, I was exhausted, but not from the work. The weight of everything had drained me. I just wanted to go home, to collapse into my bed, to forget about the pain for a little while. But when I walked through the door, my phone buzzed.A message from Vihan.*' Hey, Roohi. Are you free tonight? Thought we could grab dinner, just the two of us'My heart skipped, then dropped. Just the two of us?I stared at the screen, feeling my breath catch in my throat. For a fleeting moment, I let myself hope. Maybe this was it. Maybe tonight would be different. Maybe he finally saw me, finally realized that I was the one he wanted. But then reality hit, cold and sharp. This wasn’t some grand romantic gesture. His date probably stood him up, and now he was offering me the leftovers. This was just Vihan being Vihan—casual, friendly, and completely unaware of the storm he was causing inside me.I should have said no. I should have told him I wasn’t interested in bein

Roohi's POV I walked aimlessly, the bustling streets of Delhi a blur around me. People laughed, couples held hands, and the world moved on without a care while I felt like I was sinking. I should’ve gone home. I should’ve called Mihir or Ron, or maybe even just screamed into a pillow. But instead, I kept walking, the ache in my chest growing heavier with each step. How many times have I let him do this to me?How many times had I stood on the sidelines, quietly cheering him on, being his safe place, his constant, while he gave his heart to everyone else? How many times have I convinced myself that it was enough, that I could be content with just being his friend? But it wasn’t enough. It never had been.I thought back to the look on his face when he’d told me about his date—how his eyes lit up, how his voice carried that excitement I’d always longed for him to have for me. And then tonight, how easily he’d left, how simple it had been for him to walk out the door without a second tho

Roohi's POV I got ready, and just then, there was a knock on the door; I opened the door to see my mom standing there. "Good morning, Mom," I said and she smiled. "It's good that you are ready, come out and have breakfast with us. Mahi has also come as Mahi forgot to pack something that she needed for the wedding." By the way, what do you think about the guy Sujoy bhai introduced to you?" Mom asked. " Mom, please not right now!! I am too busy to discuss this at this moment. We will see later on. " I said. " Fine, but you can't get away with it; you're not a child now and not getting younger. You need to settle down. " " Mom, please!! " I said and went out to join others. *****We were sitting together having breakfast when Myra Bhabhi’s voice broke through my thoughts."Roohi, it's your best friend's wedding! You should really look a little different today. It's high time you pay some attention to yourself, maybe give yourself a little makeover. This is the perfect opportunity

Roohi's POV Bhai stopped the car, and we arrived at one of the most exclusive spas and salons in town, owned by Myra Bhabhi and her mom.As I walked in, I couldn’t help but feel a surge of anticipation. Roohi's POV Once my hair was done, I could see the subtle transformation taking place. I looked like a different version of myself—refined, polished, elegant. The idea of wearing something completely new was starting to make sense. Bhabhi was right—this wasn’t just about the physical appearance, it was about how it made me feel. After the hair and skin care treatment, bhabhi led me to a luxurious velvet couch where a team of assistants had laid out several dresses sent by Mohit Mamu. The dresses were exquisite, each one more beautiful than the last. My heart fluttered with excitement. Mohit Paul’s creations have always been legendary, and I have always been a big fan of his designs. My wardrobe was full of his designs. Myra Bhabhi pointed to one dress and said, "I think this is the one, Roohi. It's elegant, but it has that sensuous appeal that will make you stand out."I looked at the dress she had chosen—a breathtaking lehenga with intricate gold embroidery. The fabric was soft and

Vihan's POV Something was wrong. Roohi wasn’t just busy—she was pulling away, and I didn’t know why.But one thing was certain: I didn't want her to be angry with me. She was one of my best friends. I shook my head, trying to clear my thoughts. Focus, Vihan. You’ve got a baraat to prepare for. I told Mihir that I would be back in an hour as I had left my bag at home. Went to get my outfit from my home. I was sure I must have something very nice in my wardrobe. So I went home and got ready. But my hands moved sluggishly as I sifted through the outfits I already had. It wasn’t like I didn’t have good options—but none of them seemed right. Or maybe it wasn’t the clothes. Maybe it was my mood.I threw one outfit after another onto the bed, annoyed. My mind kept drifting back to her. Why did she change her mind like that? We’d been best friends for as long as I could remember. She has been the one person I could always count on, the one who always made me feel like I was important. Bu

Vihan's POV The music of the dhol reverberated in the air, the lively beats signaling the arrival of the baraat. The courtyard was a riot of colors, laughter, and anticipation. Everyone was gathered, craning their necks to catch a glimpse of the groom and his procession. I stood there, hands stuffed into my pockets, waiting for the Jindal family to welcome Baarat. And then, she arrived.Oh, my God!! Roohi came with her family—her brother, Raj, and his wife, Myra. But it was Roohi who stole the moment, who stole the air from my lungs. Her outfit was breathtaking—a lehenga in hues of wine and gold, a blend of traditional craftsmanship and contemporary elegance. The skirt flowed around her with a delicate sway, the intricate embroidery catching the light with every movement. The blouse was equally stunning, its fitted design adorned with sequins and beadwork that shimmered like stars. A sheer dupatta, edged in golden lace, draped gracefully over her shoulder, adding an ethereal touch

Vihan's POV The baraat reached the main entrance by now, the music and celebrations reaching a crescendo. But even amidst the chaos, my eyes kept drifting back to her. She was laughing with Mahi now, her smile lighting up the evening like fireworks. She hadn’t looked at me once till now. And yet, I couldn’t take my eyes off her.She went to greet Mihir's parents with her family and they all said that she was looking very beautiful, very different today. "Yes, Aunty, I took her to my salon and told my team to give her a new look since it's her friend's wedding," Myra said. Roohi just smiled. "She is looking so pretty, I am sure many eyes will follow her today." Megha Aunty said. Shit, many sets of eyes were already following her. " Sia, I am sure your family will get many calls from the parents of some very eligible bachelors." Megha Aunty said and applied some Kajal behind Roohi's ear. She blushed at that. What the hell!! No! It was too soon to get married. She is only 26.But

"If he even breathes in Roohi’s direction again—"Vihan stood up abruptly, his chair scraping against the floor. His expression was unreadable, his shoulders stiff, his entire body practically vibrating with a controlled fury. He walked over to Roohi, kneeling in front of her, cupping her face gently, as if afraid she would break."He’ll never touch you again," he swore, his voice thick with emotion. "I will make sure of it."Roohi looked at him, her teary eyes searching his, finding the raw intensity there. The protectiveness. The unspoken emotions that neither of them could voice right now.For the first time since she had woken up, she felt truly safe."Enough,"

Third person's POVThe atmosphere in the room was thick with tension and suffocating silence, each heartbeat echoing the rage and fear coursing through the family. Roohi lay on the couch, pale and visibly shaken. Every second felt like an eternity as everyone stood around her, restless and furious. Her mother, Sia, sat beside her, holding her hand tightly, whispering prayers under her breath. Priya and Sandhya were also waiting anxiously for her to be fine. Ron and Raj stood nearby, their jaws clenched, fists curled into tight balls as rage simmered inside them. Vihan, his usually confident and playful demeanor replaced by pure, undiluted fear, crouched close, his eyes fixed on Roohi's face. The mere thought of what had happened to Roohi made their blood boil. Ron, Raj, and Vihan looked ready to tear someone apart. And then, finally, a faint movement. When her eyelids fluttered open, the entire room collectively held its breath.
