Lillian got out of bed with a glum face. She felt pained that Nora had the guts to look down on her just because she was staying with them.
She wouldn't be there if her parents were not selfish enough to think of accepting Mr Andrew's marriage proposal.
Lillian moved into the bathroom to take a quick bath. She closed her eyes and relaxed herself while the warm water poured on her.
Then she heard footsteps in the room, and she opened her eyes. “Lillian, are you in there?” Mila questioned.
“Yes, I will be out in a minute.” Lillian replied and hurried. She stepped out when she was done and met Mila seated on the bed while scrolling through her phone.
“Hey, are you okay?” Mila inquired in a calm tone.
“I'm not fine. I feel like a loser,” Lillian whispered in annoyance and moved over to the drawer to get her body lotion.
“I know you're mad, but you should know Nora better. She doesn't think of what pops out of her mouth.” Mila pressed further while staring keenly at Lillian.
“If I had known I was going to be humiliated this way, I wouldn't have come here. It isn't my fault that I haven't gotten a job or my parents tried to make me marry an old man.” She said with a growl, and Mila stood up and moved to her.
“I'm sorry. I apologized on behalf of her. I know it hurts, but you two need to keep your difference aside and apologize to each other.” Mila chipped in and Lillian turned swiftly to look at her.
“Apologize? That is the last thing I will do, Mila.” She uttered in annoyance and walked to the wardrobe, she began to rummage through it while Mila kept mute.
“Seems like none of you want peace. You don't have to act like her, Lily, you're bigger than this.” Mila finally voiced out and Lily release a scoff.
“Count me out. As a matter of fact, I have decided to go job hunting today. Luck might shine upon me.” She whispered and picked out a blue turtleneck dress.
“Today is Friday, I thought you wanted to start job hunting on Monday.” Mila spoke in concern.
“Change of plans. And please, you can tell Nora not to worry, I will be leaving the house as soon as I get my first pay.” Lillian uttered and quickly wore the dress she was holding.
“It hasn't gotten to that. Please stop making it a big deal. I will talk to her, you don't have to rush anything.” Mila added, but Lillian wasn't ready to listen.
She moved to the mirror and combed her hair while looking at her curves. If her qualifications doesn't get her a job, then her curves should, which man won't find her attractive, huh? The last time she checked, she was the high school and college crush of so many guys.
Mila kept talking, but Lillian wasn't even paying attention. She rushed to her handbag, put a few things in it, picked up her jewelry and slid her legs into her shoes before moving out of the room.
“Stay for breakfast.” Mila yelled behind her, but she kept walking and when she got to the door, she noticed Nora seated in the sitting room.
She turned and glared at her before moving out of the house, while Mila ran a hand into her hair. Those two were totally driving her crazy.
Lillian waited for almost thirty minutes while waiting for a cab. She was already muttering a few curse words under breath, and suddenly a cab stopped right in front of her. “Going somewhere Miss?” The man inquired, and she itched the back of her nape.
Where was she going to start from? Everything was so sudden that she didn't get to check on a few companies before leaving.
Though she has submitted her documents in two other companies in the city, she hasn't gotten feedback yet.
Then her thoughts drifted to two particular companies. They were among the biggest companies in the country and the largest in the city but getting a job there will be hard, but she wanted to try her luck.
“Valid hall, legend street.” Lillian uttered, hoping it was the road leading to the companies. The cab man asked her to hop in, and she did.
One of the companies was a manufacturing company, owned and managed by one of the richest men in the country. But lately, it seems like the son took over the business, though his father owned numerous companies. How lucky of him to be born in such luxury-Lillian thought.
The cab man finally got to her destination after being stuck in traffic for almost twenty minutes. That was how busy the city can be, and everyone seemed impatient.
Lillian paid the cab man and stepped out of the car while he drove away instantly. She stood there like a statue while roaming her eyes around the place.
She was sweating already, and she wiped it off with her palm before crossing over to the other lane.
But she halted while thinking of which company to go to first. The other company which was a few inches away from the manufacturing company was a software company.
It was better for her to go there for today and try her luck in the manufacturing company on Monday. Besides, she has heard of how annoying the CEO of the manufacturing company can be.
All those rich kids who never lack anything often turn out to be arrogant and annoying-Lillian whispered as she increased her pace.
She wasn't ready to face another Nora that day, so she walked a bit further while clinging her bag to herself as she headed for the software company.
Suddenly, her phone began to ring, and she pulled it out of her bag. Lo and behold, it was her dad.
Lillian released a sigh and dialed the answered button. “What do you want, dad?” She asked in annoyance.
“Lily, baby, are you really not going to come back home?” She heard her mom's voice from the other side, and she sighed.
“Let her stay stubborn if she likes. Where are you even staying right now? With a man?” Her dad yelled, and she shook her head while rolling her eyes like he could see her.
“It seems like you have nothing important to say to me. Bye, I'm busy right now.” She whispered and ended the call.
“So much headache for a day. Nora should have been the perfect daughter for my dad. Those two always find a way to piss me off. But I'm going to show them I can be better than what they think of me.” Lillian mumbled to herself and walked into the gigantic building in front of her.
The burning gaze of the sun on her skin was making her sweat profusely. It was a rough day for Lillian after she had spent half of the day inside the building, and now her shoes were making her feet hurt badly. She took a deep breath after walking out of the software company. Lillian, utter some curse words under her breath before crossing over to the other lane to get a cab home. She prayed silently that she would be called next week and given a job. She hoped to move out and get an apartment of her own. The moment she stopped a cab, she called out the address to him, and he ushered her to hop in. “A person of such beauty isn't supposed to stay under the sun.” The driver spoke, and Lillian resisted the urge to scoff. “But the world doesn't care,” she uttered and laid her head on the back seat. He kept talking about random stuff, and it took all of her not to ask the driver to shut up and just focus on the road. She wasn't in a good mood to talk, and he still couldn't sense it? E
All eyes fixed intensely on Lillian as they waited anxiously for her response. The room was filled with total tranquility, and Lily licked her bottom lip and sighed. “Mila,” she called and averted her eyes to her. “He was the man who almost ran over me with his car the day I left home while heading to your place.” She responded, and Tessa sighed in relief. “I thought you had once fallen victim because of his charms. Thank heavens, it is something different.” Tessa said sincerely and shoved her phone into her bag. “Don't you think he might find it suspicious if I approach him first? Like I was totally rude to him that day, in a nutshell; we were all pissed.” Lillian uttered, and Tessa itched her nape while thinking. “I will add whatever money you want. Please, Lily, just try it out. I promise to increase the pay to one hundred thousand dollars.” Tessa spoke and Mila gasped with wide eyes. “I promise not to disappoint you, Tessa. But… I hope you won't go broke.” Lily said in concer
Lillian smiled sheepishly while he gave a compliment on her looks. “So, tell me, do you live around here?” He asked calmly while sitting on the next stool.Lily became stiff for a second, she was contemplating on what answer to give. “Yeah, I live around.” She replied and took a sip of her drink while praying silently for him not to ask her any other personal questions.Lillian glanced around with her eyes and sighted most of the ladies staring towards the bar, and some were giving her a hard glare. “It seems like you're quite popular, everyone is staring at you,” she uttered and looked at him.Carson turned his head and sighted the ladies, one of them waved at him while smiling sheepishly, and he scoffed.“That's how they are, they stare at me all night whenever I come here to chill out.” He spoke, with a bit of pride echoing in his voice.“I guess they can't help it. You're worth staring at.” Lillian said, and regret spilling those words out, but he heard her already.“You think so?
Carson had woken up the next day, his thoughts wrapped around Lily, he couldn't get the image of her off his mind.He walked out of his room and descended the stairs while scrolling through his phone. “Good morning sir,” Rosa said while bowing slightly, she was the only maid working in the house. She comes in the morning, cleans the house, and makes breakfast before leaving. He ignored her and walked straight to the sitting room. Suddenly, he placed a call across to Bernard, his secretary.“I won't be coming to work today. Clear all appointments.” Carson ordered, and before Bernard could say a word, he ended the call. After some seconds, his phone began to ring, and he averted his eyes to it immediately. What was he expecting? For Ella to call him when she doesn't have his number? But then, it was his best friend calling.“Hey man! I will explain why I had to disappoint you yesterday. Are you at home or at work?” Owen inquired from the other end.“I'm at home, I have a gist for you.”
The heavy knock on the door made Lillian jerked back to reality. She moved swiftly to check who it was and noticed Nora standing with her luggage.Lily moved away from the door without saying a word, and Nora stepped in. Mila heard the knock too and stepped out of the kitchen.“Hey! You didn't tell me you were coming back today.” Mila said with beady eyes and scanned Nora, who looked exhausted from her trip.“I'm sorry about that. Do we have anything edible in the house? I'm so hungry.” Nora inquired and laid her back on the couch.“All thanks to Lily, she bought a few things in the kitchen.” Mila added with a smile, but Nora's countenance changed.“Don't worry, Nora, I wouldn't mock you for eating what I bought with my money.” Lily started with a smirk and moved to the bedroom, while Nora scoffed.Lillian kept pacing back and forth in the room. While biting her bottom lip nervously. She has been trying to think of the best way to make Carson fall in love with her.Tessa had done her
The moment, the wall clock clicked, giving the sign of what time it was. Carson picked up his phone from the table. He put a call across to Lillian, he wanted to meet her and hoped she was going to agree this time around. The first call went in vain, and he called again. Suddenly, she picked up, and his eyes lightened up. “Hey, Ella.” He called in a husky tone.“Hey, how are you doing?” She asked like she cares.“I'm doing just fine. Hey, what's your plans for the evening? Do you mind if we meet for dinner?” He inquired with a bit of hope.“Alright, that would be fine by me.” Lily uttered, and she could hear him sigh from the other end.“Alright, cool. I will come pick you up, just text me your address. Hope to see you soon, beautiful.” Carson added before ending the call.A wide smile displayed at the corners of his lips. Maybe Owen was right, perhaps she had no idea who he was, but he was determined to show her tonight. Most ladies were definitely after his looks and money, and he
Lily was able to move into her new house during the weekend. She was supposed to call Mila, but she had a lot going on in her head. She shook her head while a little smile played on her lips. It seems like Carson was already falling for her. She reminisced on the moment he wanted to kiss her in the car, but changed his mind. Though she couldn't really explain what was going on in his head, she felt he found her attractive. Besides, who could resist her curves, huh? Lily moved out of her room, she was yet to unwrap some furniture in her room and hasn't gotten a little stuff she will be needing. At least, she would be free from her nagging parents and annoying Nora. She sighed and walked out of her room, it was a two-bedroom flat and the other room was the guest room. Lily walked to the balcony of her room and stood there. She loved the view in front of her as she giggled like a baby. The breeze blew on her skin, swaying her hair, and she slowly closed her eyes. The duvet dropped heavily on the floor, and a slight groan escaped her lips. It was supposed to be a blessed morning for Lillian, after the stress she had been through seeking employment. But the piercing noise coming from the sitting room was making her head ache badly. She growled and slowly opened her eyes.Lillian glanced around the room and her eyes rested on the artwork she had kept two days back after taking off her family photo from the exact spot. Her family was a disaster, her parents were never tired of arguing and threatening to divorce each other, and Lillian felt there was no need for her to get married if marriage was that way.She sighed and ruffled her messy hair and roamed her eyes around the room one last time. She noticed her window was open, and the breeze was coming in, making the ash curtains sway left to right.Lillian stood up from the bed and found her floppy slippers before moving into the bathroom to wash her face and brush her teeth. She stared at her refl

Lillian had woken up before the dawn of the day and due to the way she had slept without eating last night, her stomach kept rumbling throughout. She had to wake up as early as 5am and get something to eat before she passed out. Then she quickly got out of bed and tiptoed to the kitchen, not to wake anyone up.Nora came back from the club very early in the morning, and she was trying to get some sleep in the other room, which was smaller and to the comfort of only one person.Lillian peeped around like a thief and moved to the fridge. She opened it swiftly while flicking her eyes to the items inside. She rested her hand on a can of milk and then sighted some cupcakes inside. Her mouth felt watery with the sight of it, but something was telling her not to take a bite. Her stomach rumbled again, reminding her of how hungry she was. And before she could stop her hand from moving into the fridge, she found herself taking out the cupcakes. She took a bite and noticed how sweet it was, and
